Improving the Position Accuracy and Computational Efficiency of UAV Terrain Aided Navigation Using a Two-Stage Hybrid Fuzzy Particle Filtering Method

Terrain Aided Navigation(TAN)technology has become increasingly important due to its effectiveness in environments where Global Positioning System(GPS)is *** recent years,TAN systems have been extensively researched for both aerial and underwater navigation ***,many TAN systems that rely on recursive Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)position estimation methods,such as Extended Kalman Filters(EKF),often face challenges with divergence and instability,particularly in highly non-linear *** address these issues,this paper proposes and investigates a hybrid two-stage TAN positioning system for UAVs that utilizes Particle *** enhance the system’s robustness against uncertainties caused by noise and to estimate additional system states,a Fuzzy Particle Filter(FPF)is employed in the first *** approach introduces a novel terrain composite feature that enables a fuzzy expert system to analyze terrain non-linearities and dynamically adjust the number of particles in *** design allows the UAV to be efficiently localized in GPS-denied environments while also reducing the computational complexity of the particle filter in real-time *** the second stage,an Error State Kalman Filter(ESKF)is implemented to estimate the UAV’s *** ESKF is chosen over the conventional EKF method because it is more suitable for non-linear *** results demonstrate that the proposed fuzzy-based terrain composite method achieves high positional accuracy while reducing computational time and memory usage.

An application of space-filling curves to improve results of turbulent aerodynamics modeling with convolutional neural networks

When carrying out calculations for turbulent flow simulation,one inevitably has to face the choice between accuracy and speed of *** order to simultaneously obtain both a computationally efficient and more accurate model,a surrogate model can be built on the basis of some fast special model and knowledge of previous calculations obtained by more accurate base models from various test bases or some results of serial *** objective of this work is to construct a surrogate model which allows to improve the accuracy of turbulent calculations obtained by a special model on unstructured *** this purpose,we use 1D Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)of the encoder-decoder architecture and reduce the problem to a single dimension by applying space-filling *** an approach would have the benefit of being applicable to solutions obtained on unstructured *** this work,a non-local approach is applied where entire flow fields obtained by the special and base models are used as input and ground truth output ***-Allmaras(SA)model and Near-wall Domain Decomposition(NDD)method for SA are taken as the base and special models *** efficiency and accuracy of the obtained surrogate model are demonstrated in a case of supersonic flow over a compression corner with different values for angleαand Reynolds number *** conducted an investigation into interpolation and extrapolation by Re and also into interpolation byα.

Resuspension of spherical particles due to surface vibration

In this study,particle resuspension due to surface vibration was investigated.A spherical particle was assumed to rest on top of a thin plate,and an external vibrating force was applied normal on the plate at t=0 and at distance R from the *** external driving force created a displacement field in both time and space domains,where deformations in the body of the plate were considered small elastic oscillations that are perpendicular to the propagation of the *** oscillations were introduced via the theory of elasticity and the creation of waves on thin plates,i.e.,bending *** motion in the vertical direction was initiated through plate displacement,provided that inertia due to particle mass is *** particular,the particle was assumed to oscillate with a force(of oscillation)estimated via Newton’s second law of motion,comprising of two components:the acceleration due to the plate displacement and the particle ***,a simple force balance method was used to determine the conditions for ***,resuspension occurs when the oscillation force exceeds the couple of the adhesive and gravitational *** results suggest that the plate displacement depends on the characteristics of the applied force,material properties,and plate *** addition,it was found that the oscillation force is substantially lower than the applied force and that it depends on plate displacement and particle ***,the particle size significantly influencedthe outcome of ***,resuspension is favorable for large particles,strong applied forces,and high forcing frequencies.

Agricultural drought severity in NE Italy: Variability, bias, and future scenarios

This study investigated the variability of agricultural drought severity,as depicted by vegetation indices,and the bias in identifying drought events when considering a stationary vs nonstationary climate *** work leveraged gridded climate data(NCEP CFSv2,CHIRPS 1981–2022),soil properties(OpenLandMap),satellite imagery(Sentinel2/Landsat,2000–2022),and future climate projections(NEX-GDDP,2050)together with local knowledge of selected farms,to augment drought monitoring techniques and identify potential issues for *** the study domain,significant differences were observed when comparing drought characteristics using stationary and nonstationary drought indexes,with biases being not ubiquitous in either space or time of *** developing sustainable drought mitigation and adaptation strategies,decision-makers should carefully address this uncertainty to avoid a possible underestimation of drought *** showed a drought increase(∼50%)by the mid and late twenty-first *** of future climate highlighted an even more significant impact(∼80%)with a wide variability of risk across the *** drought impact was also related to soil organic carbon(SOC),our results suggest that improving SOC content could be a sustainable strategy for enhancing soil drought resilience,especially in areas commonly characterized by low concentrations of organic carbon and *** analysis highlighted that drought impacts were also modulated by investment in irrigation infrastructure and irrigation *** and land managers could apply the proposed analysis design to address historical,current and future indicators of vegetation conditions within irrigated *** providing spatio-temporal information on the patterns of drought impacts and their bias,this study supports identifying priority regions for targeted drought risk reduction and adaptation options,including water resources and soil management sustainability crite

Argumentative Conversational Agents for Online Discussions

Artificial Intelligence is revolutionising our communication practices and the ways in which we interact with each other. This revolution does not only impact how we communicate, but it affects the nature of the partners with whom we communicate. Online discussion platforms now allow humans to communicate with artificial agents in the form of socialbots. Such agents have the potential to moderate online discussions and even manipulate and alter public opinions. In this paper, we propose to study this phenomenon using a constructed large-scale agent platform. At the heart of the platform lies an artificial agent that can moderate online discussions using argumentative messages. We investigate the influence of the agent on the evolution of an online debate involving human participants. The agent will dynamically react to their messages by moderating, supporting, or attacking their stances. We conducted two experiments to evaluate the platform while looking at the effects of the conversational agent. The first experiment is a large-scale discussion with 1076 citizens from Afghanistan discussing urban policy-making in the city of Kabul. The goal of the experiment was to increase the citizen involvement in implementing Sustainable Development Goals. The second experiment is a small-scale debate between a group of 16 students about globalisation and taxation in Myanmar. In the first experiment, we found that the agent improved the responsiveness of the participants and increased the number of identified ideas and issues. In the second experiment, we found that the agent polarised the debate by reinforcing the initial stances of the participant.

An Adaptive Classifier Based Approach for Crowd Anomaly Detection

Crowd Anomaly Detection has become a challenge in intelligent video surveillance system and *** video surveillance systems make extensive use of data mining,machine learning and deep learning *** this paper a novel approach is proposed to identify abnormal occurrences in crowded situations using deep *** this approach,Adaptive GoogleNet Neural Network Classifier with Multi-Objective Whale Optimization Algorithm are applied to predict the abnormal video frames in the crowded *** use multiple instance learning(MIL)to dynamically develop a deep anomalous ranking *** technique predicts higher anomalous values for abnormal video frames by treating regular and irregular video bags and video *** use the multi-objective whale optimization algorithm to optimize the entire process and get the best *** performance parameters such as accuracy,precision,recall,and F-score are considered to evaluate the proposed technique using the Python simulation *** simulation results show that the proposed method performs better than the conventional methods on the public live video dataset.

Different light wavelengths have specific effects on plant growth and ***-bandwidth light-emitting diode(LED)lighting may be used to directionally manipulate size,color and metabolites in high-value fruits and *** this report,Red Russian kale(Brassica napus)seedlings were grown under specific light conditions and analyzed for photomorphogenic responses,pigment accumulation and nutraceutical *** results showed that this genotype responds predictably to darkness,blue and red light,with suppression of hypocotyl elongation,development of pigments and changes in specific ***,these seedlings were relatively hypersensitive to far-red light,leading to uncharacteristically short hypocotyls and high pigment accumulation,even after growth under very low fluence rates(,1 mmol m^(-2) s^(-1)).General antioxidant levels and aliphatic glucosinolates are elevated by far-red light *** treatments of darkness,blue light,red light and far-red light were applied throughout sprout development to alter final product *** results indicate that sequential treatment with narrow-bandwidth light may be used to affect key economically important traits in high-value crops.

Recently,the expertise accumulated in the field of geovisualization has found application in the visualization of abstract multidimensional data,on the basis of methods called spatialization *** methods aim at visualizing multidimensional data into low-dimensional representational spaces by making use of spatial metaphors and applying dimension reduction *** metaphors are able to provide a metaphoric framework for the visualization of information at different levels of *** present paper makes an investigation on how the issue of granularity is handled in the context of representative examples of spatialization ***,this paper introduces the prototyping tool Geo-Scape,which provides an interactive spatialization environment for representing and exploring multidimensional data at different levels of granularity,by making use of a kernel density estimation technique and on the landscape "smoothness" metaphor.A demonstration scenario is presented next to show how Geo-Scape helps to discover knowledge into a large set of data,by grouping them into meaningful clusters on the basis of a similarity measure and organizing them at different levels of granularity.
