To investigate the therapeutic potentials of na- tural sources, stepwise polarity fractions of Blumea balsamifera were tested for their ability to inhibit aldose reductase (AR) activity in rat lenses. Of these, the ethyl acetate (EtOAc) fraction exhibited a unique AR inhibitory activity (IC50 value, 0.11 μg/mL). Apigenin was identified from the active EtOAc fraction and exhibited high AR inhibitory activity (IC50 value, 4.03 μM). The content of apigenin was measured in B. balsamifera (0.47 mg/g) by HPLC/UV analysis. Our result suggests that B. balsamifera could be a useful natural source for the development of a novel AR inhibitory agent against diabetic complications.

Although hydrofluoric acid(HF)surface treatment is known to enhance the joining of metals with polymers,there is limited information on its effect on the joining of AZ31 alloy and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics(CFRPs)through laser-assisted metal and plastic direct joining(LAMP).This study uses the LAMP technique to produce AZ31-CFRP *** joining process involves as-received AZ31,HFpretreated AZ31,and thermally oxidized HF-pretreated AZ31 alloy ***,the bonding strength of joints prepared with thermally oxidized AZ31 alloy sheets is examined to ascertain the combined effect of HF treatment and thermal oxidation on bonding *** microstructures,surface chemical interactions,and mechanical performances of joints are investigated under tensile shear *** factors,such as bubble formation,CFRP resin decomposition,and mechanical interlocking considerably affect joint ***,surface chemical interactions between the active species on metal parts and the polar amide along with carbonyl groups of polymer play a significant role in improving joint *** prepared with surface-pretreated AZ31 alloy sheets show significant improvements in bonding strength.

Salicylic acid (SA) plays an important role in plant immune response, including resistance to pathogens and systemic acquired resistance. Two major components, NONEXPRESsoR OF PATHOGENESIS-RELATED GENES (NPRs) and TGACG motif-binding transcription factors (TGAs), are known to mediate SA signaling, which might also be orchestrated by other hormonal and environmental changes. Nevertheless, the molecular and functional interactions between SA signaling components and other cellular signaling pathways remain poorly understood. Here we showed that the steroid plant hormone brassinosteroid (BR) promotes SA responses by inactivating BR-INSENSITIVE 2 (BIN2), which inhibits the redox-sensitive clade I TGAs in Arabidopsis. We found that both BR and the BIN2 inhibitor bikinin synergistically increase SA-mediated physiological responses, such as resistance to Pst DC3000. Our genetic and biochemical analyses indicated that BIN2 functionally interacts with TGA1 and TGA4, but not with other TGAs. We further demonstrated that BIN2 phosphorylates Ser-202 of TGA4, resulting in the suppression of the redox-dependent interaction between TGA4 and NPR1 as well as destabilization of TGA4. Consistently, transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing TGA4-YFP with a S202A mutation displayed enhanced SA responses compared to the wild-type TGA4-YFP plants. Taken together, these results suggest a novel crosstalk mechanism by which BR signaling coordinates the SA responses mediated by redox-sensitive clade I TGAs.

BACKGROUND:A malignant fibrous histiocytoma,recently referred to as an undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS),is very rare in the liver,and only 34 cases of primary hepatic malignant fibrous histiocytoma have been reported in the English literature. METHODS:We report a rare case of a hepatic UPS presenting as a unilocular cystic lesion with respect to histopathologic features,the newly revised diagnostic criteria,and the differential diagnosis. RESULTS:A 60-year-old man presented for evaluation of epigastric pain of 7 months *** computed tomography revealed a hypodense,unilocular cystic mass in the right lobe of the liver,measuring 14.0×11.1 cm.A right lobectomy was ***,the cut surface showed a single,well-circumscribed unilocular cystic tumor mass containing dark red-brown necrotic debris and blood clots, which occupied most of the ***,the tumor consisted of haphazardly arranged mononuclear pleomorphic tumor cells,admixed with abundant osteoclast- like multinucleated giant ***,the tumor cells expressed vimentin *** histopathologic and immunohistochemical findings were compatible with a *** patient is alive and well 41 months after surgery without recurrence. CONCLUSIONS:Clinically,most of the hepatic UPSs are solid *** two cases have presented as multilocular cystic masses.A primary hepatic UPS presenting as a unilocular cyst has never been reported.A UPS should be included in the differential diagnosis of unilocular cystic lesions in the liver.

Background： The reported mortality rate of mushroom-induced acute liver failure with conventionaltreatment is 1.4%–16.9%. Emergency liver transplantation may be indicated and can be the only curativetreatment option. This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of criteria for emergency livertransplantation in predicting 28-day mortality in patients with mushroom-induced acute liver ***： A retrospective cohort study was performed between January 2005 and December 2015. Alladult patients aged≥18 years admitted with mushroom intoxication at our emergency department wereevaluated. All patients with acute liver injury, defined as elevation of serum liver enzymes （〉5 timesthe upper limit of normal, ULN） or moderate coagulopathy （INR 〉 2.0） were included. The ability of the King’s College, Ganzert’s, and Escudié’s criteria to predict 28-day mortality was evaluated.

We report the discovery of KMT-2020-BLG-0414 Lb,with a planet-to-host mass ratio q2=0.9-1.2×10-5=3-4 q⊕at 1σ,which is the lowest mass-ratio microlensing planet to *** with two other recent discoveries(4?q/q⊕?6),it fills out the previous empty sector at the bottom of the triangular(log s,log q)diagram,where s is the planet-host separation in units of the angular Einstein radiusθ***,these discoveries call into question the existence,or at least the strength,of the break in the mass-ratio function that was previously suggested to account for the paucity of very low-q *** to the extreme magnification of the event,Amax~1450 for the underlying single-lens event,its light curve revealed a second companion with q3~0.05 and|log s3|~1,i.e.,a factor~10 closer to or farther from the host in *** measurements of the microlens parallaxπE and the angular Einstein radiusθE allow estimates of the host,planet and second companion masses,(M1,M2,M3)~(0.3 M⊙,1.0 M⊕,17 MJ),the planet and second companion projected separations,(a⊥,2,a⊥,3)~(1.5,0.15 or 15)au,and system distance DL~1 *** lens could account for most or all of the blended light(I~19.3)and so can be studied immediately with high-resolution photometric and spectroscopic observations that can further clarify the nature of the *** planet was found as part of a new program of high-cadence follow-up observations of high-magnification *** detection of this planet,despite the considerable difficulties imposed by COVID-19(two KMT sites and OGLE were shut down),illustrates the potential utility of this program.
