Background: Early excision and grafting has been the preferred method of managing major burns around the world since 1970. Considering the advances in health care and the development of new antibiotics over the past 50 years, delayed grafting as a technique for the management of burns over 15%-20% of total body surface area (TBSA) could have comparable results to that of early excision. This study aims to highlight the outcomes of practicing delayed grafting in burn patients. Methods: A case series analysis was performed of 51 patients who were admitted to the burns unit in Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah with over 20% TBSA between January 2014 and December 2019. The patients received prophylactic antibiotics and silver sulphadiazine dressing until the burn eschar had completely separated, followed by grafting. Results: Two patients were lost during the entire duration of the study. The mortality rate was comparable to that of early excision, while the rate of hypertrophic scarring was lower than the range reported by other studies. Conclusion: In the management of patients with over 20% TBSA, delayed grafting after complete separation of eschar is still a valid technique.

Adiponectin(APN),a novel hormone/cytokine derived from adipocyte tissue,is involved in various physiological functions. Genetics,nutrition,and adiposity are factors contributing to circulating plasma concentrations of *** correlation studies have shown that lower levels of serum APN are associated with increased malignancy of various cancers,such as breast and colon cancers,suggesting that APN has a role in *** affects insulin resistance,thus further influencing cancer development. Tumor cells may express receptors for *** signaling is the mechanism by which APN exerts its host-protective responses. These factors suggest that serum APN levels and downstream signaling targets of APN may serve as potential diagnostic markers for *** research is necessary to clarify the exact role of APN in cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Mikbi intrusion(MI) is a part of the Neoproterozoic Nubian Shield located along the NE-SW trending major fracture zones prevailing southern Eastern Desert of Egypt. In this study, we present for the first time detailed mineralogical and bulk-rock geochemical data to infer some constraints on the parental magma genesis and to understand the tectonic processes contributed to MI formation. Lithologically, it is composed of fresh peridotite, clinopyroxenite, hornblendite, anorthosite, gabbronorite, pyroxene amphibole gabbro, amphibole gabbro and diorite. All rocks have low Th/La ratios(mostly <0.2) and lack positive Zr and Th anomalies excluding significant crustal contamination. They show very low concentrations of Nb, Ta, Zr and Hf together with sub-chondritic ratios of Nb/Ta(2-15) and Zr/Hf(19-35),suggesting that their mantle source was depleted by earlier melting extraction event. The oxygen fugacity(logfO_2) estimated from diorite biotite is around the nickel-nickel oxide buffer(NNO) indicating crystallization from a relatively oxidized magma. Amphiboles in the studied mafic-ultramafic rocks indicate relative oxygen fugacity(i.e. ΔNNO; nickel-nickel oxide) of 0.28-3 and were in equilibrium mostly with 3.77-8.24 wt.% H_2 O_(melt)(i.e. water content in the melt), consistent with the typical values of subduction-related magmas. Moreover, pressure estimates(0.53-6.79 kbar) indicate polybaric crystallization and suggest that the magma chamber(s) was located at relatively shallow crustal levels. The enrichment in LILE(e.g., Cs, Ba, K and Sr) and the depletion in HFSE(e.g., Th and Nb) relative to primitive mantle are consistent with island arc signature. The olivine, pyroxene and amphibole compositions also reflect arc affinity. These inferences suggest that their primary magma was derived from partial melting of a mantle source that formerly metasomatized in a subduction zone setting. Development and Validation of an Indirect Whole-Virus ELISA Using a Predominant Genotype VI Velogenic NewCastle Disease Virus Isolated from Lebanese Poultry

Commercial ELISA kits are commonly used to assess the levels of chicken antibodies against NewCastle Disease Virus (NDV) and trace a field strain infection. Nevertheless, the specificity of these kits vis-à-vis endemic strains in Lebanon remains in question. This study developed an in-house indirect ELISA system to evaluate the level of chicken antibodies against a predominant velogenic NDV strain belonging to Genotype VI. A checkerboard analysis comprised a five-factorial multivariate experiment to optimize the protocol: coating antigen concentration, blocking buffer utilization, serum and conjugate dilution levels, and OD reading wavelength. The developed test was optimized and then validated through parallel testing of the sera of 20 broilers and 5 layers using standard serological assays. There was a strong correlation between the developed ELISA results and those obtained with the Hemagglutination Inhibition test (P < 0.01), and a commercial NDV ELISA kit (P < 0.05). The specificity, sensitivity, and reproducibility of the developed ELISA suggest that it can be used as the test of choice for the assessment of chicken antibody titers against locally circulating velogenic NDV strains, specifically those belonging to Genotype VI. It also offers better help in the serological detection of birds’ exposure to the said strains.

Serpentinized Peridotites at the North Part of the Wadi Allaqi District(Egypt): Implications for the Tectono-Magmatic Evolution of Fore-arc Crust

The Neoproterozoic Allaqi-Heiani suture （800-700 Ma） in the south Eastern Desert of Egypt is the northernmost linear ophiolitic belt that defines an arc-arc suture in the Arabian- Nubian shield （ANS）. The Neoproterozoic serpentinized peridotites represent a distinct lithology of dismembered ophiolites along the Allaqi-Heiani suture zone. The alteration of peridotites varies, some contain relicts of primary minerals （Cr-spinel and olivine） and others are extremely altered, especially along thrusts and shear zones, with development of talc, talc-carbonate and quartz-carbonate. The fresh cores of the chromian spinels are rimmed by ferritchromite and Cr- magnetite. The fresh chromian spinels have high Cr# （0.62 to 0.79）, while Mg# shows wider variation （0.35-0.59）. High Cr# in the relict chromian spinels and Fo content in the primary olivines indicate that they are residual peridotites after extensive partial melting. The studied ophiolitic upper mantle peridotites are highly depleted and most probably underwent high degrees of partial melting at a supra-subduction zone setting. They can be produced by up to -20%-22% dynamic melting of a primitive mantle source. The mineralogical and geochemical features of the studied rocks reflect that the mantle peridotites of the north part of the Wadi Allaqi district are similar to the fore-arc peridotites of a supra-subduction zone.

Rare metal mineralization of Sn, Nb-Ta and W is encountered in the Gebel Dihmit area (GDA), south- eastern Aswan, Egypt. The mineralization is related to muscovite granites and their pegmatite derivatives. The peg- matites are divided into three types according to their main mineral assemblages: K-feldspar-muscovite-tourmaline, K-feldspar-albite-muscovite and albite-K-feldspar-lepidolite veins. Petrogenetic studies indicate that Sn and Nb-Ta mineralization extends from the late-magmatic stage to the pegmatite and hydrothermal stages of the (GDA) suite. The albite-K-feldspar-lepidolite granite is composed dominantly of albite, lepidolote, and quartz, with topaz, K-feldspar and amblygonite. The accessory minerals are zircon, monazite, pollucite, columbite-tantalite, microlite and Ta-rich cassiterite. Phenocrysts of quartz, topaz and K-feldspar contain abundant inclusions of albite laths and occasional lepidolite crystals along growth zones (snowball texture), indicating simultaneous crystallization from a subsolvus, residual magma. The origin of the pegmatites is attributed to extreme differentiation by fractional crystal- lization of a granitic magma. The economic potential for rare metals was evaluated in the geochemical discrimination diagrams. Accordingly, some of the pegmatites are not only highly differentiated in terms of alkalis, but also the promising targets for small-scale Ta and, to a less extent, Sn. The pegmatites also provide the first example of Fe-Mn and Nb-Ta fractionation in successive generations of granites to cassiterite-bearing pegmatites, which perfectly ex- hibit similar fractionation trends established for primary columbite-tantalite in the corresponding categories of peg- matites. Uranium and Th of magmatic origin are indicated by the presence of thorite and allanite, whereas evidence of hydrothermal mineralization is the alteration of rock- foring minerals such as feldspar and the formation of sec- ondary minerals such as uranophane..

Determination and assessment of total mercury levels in local, frozen and canned fish in Lebanon

Fish is an important constituent of the Lebanese ***,very little attention in our area is given to bring awareness regarding the effect of the toxicity of mercury （Hg） mainly through fish *** study aimed to report analytical data on total mercury levels in several fish species for the first time in thirty years and to also made individuals aware of the presence and danger from exposure to mercury through fish *** samples were selected from local Lebanese markets and fisheries and included 94 samples of which were fresh,frozen,processed,and canned *** values were reported as microgram of mercury per gram of fish based on wet *** level of mercury ranged from 0.0190 to 0.5700 μg/g in fresh samples,0.0059 to 0.0665 μg/g in frozen samples,and 0.0305 to 0.1190 μg/g in canned *** data clearly showed that higher levels of mercury were detected in local fresh fish as opposed to other types thus placing consumers at higher risk from mercury ***,the data revealed that Mallifa （yellowstripe barracuda/Sphyraena chrysotaenia）,Sargous （white seabream/Diplodus sargus）,Ghobbos （bogue/Boops boops）,and shrimp （Penaeus sp.） were among the types containing the highest amounts of *** the other hand,processed fish such as fish fillet,fish burger,small shrimp and crab are found to contain lower levels of mercury and are associated with lower exposure risks to *** population should therefore,be aware to consume limited amounts of fresh local fish to minimize exposure to mercury.

联合国安全理事会能够参与处理叙利亚危机,是基于联合国宪章赋予它的职能和权力,以实现国际人权主义法以及联合国的指导原则“促进和保护人权”。《联合国宪章》的第一条和第二条规范了联合国安理会在处理非国际武装争端的法律框架,但不包括第六章、第七章有关争端解决的条款。由安理会在这些方面作出的许多决定中我们可以推断出:安理会是通过决议的方式决定争端的性质以及干预的法律基础。本文探讨了安理会介入解决叙利亚冲突的影响,以及其在处理叙利亚危机中的实践与《联合国宪章》以及相关国际法条款的相容性。值得注意的一点是,考虑到与国际武装冲突相比,非国际性武装冲突的数量在近十年期间显著增加,因此本文着重关注了国际组织为维护国际和平与安全发挥作用进行的根本性改革。本文还探讨了安理会常任理事国处理叙利亚冲突问题的做法,以及中华人民共和国和俄罗斯联邦使用否决权,是否符合委员会的规定和国际法的条款。本文也揭示了安全理事会的职能缺失和权力过小的惨淡现状。在参与处理叙利亚冲突的升级和持续过程中,安理会基本上无法采取任何硬性措施来打击参与冲突的国家或其所支持的武装团体的非法行径。本文也分析了参与此次冲突的各方利益着点,以及各大力量间的新平衡状态。本文还揭示了自从叙利亚危机转变成一场有多方力量参与的国际性战争后,安理会的角色也面临着挑战。世界各国诸如美国、俄罗斯、土耳其、沙特阿拉伯伊朗以及以色列,以及一些非国家武装极端集团都参与到了这场冲突中。叙利亚的危机日益成为第二次世界大战后最大的人道主义危机,许多学者认为它是第三次世界大战爆发的坚实基础。许多区域组织长期以军火补给、金融援助、道德声援以及外交支持的形式,不仅在叙利亚甚至在全世界范围内给予非国家武装集团帮助。但中华人民共和国和俄罗斯联邦两国则正与这种做法相反,两国利用国际法相关条款维护叙利亚国家的主权、当局政府合法权利,以期保护叙利亚人民及其宗教和教派的多样性、维护叙利亚领土完整。作为安理会常任理事国的这两大国,参与处理一国国内冲突和运用国际保护原则做法,可以说实现国际介入一国国内事务并保证行动公正性的重要发展。中国和俄罗斯否决了任何不符合安理会集体安全的决议行为,反映了各大国力量间的新平衡关系,也反映了欧洲在世界舞台上的能发挥的作用几乎微乎其微,以及其他国家不言而喻的武装力量控制狂热程度。在安理会的法律框架外活动的国家,在讨论如下问题时应认清自己所处的立场:安理会在保护国际和平与安全方面能起到的作用,以及在何种程度上国家可以因为利益受损而使用国际法解决。本文着重分析了安理会在处理非国际性武装冲突中的做法,以及这些做法对安理会决策机制以及事件结果的影响。本文的数据分析方法包括一手数据分析和二手数据分析。一手数据主要来自政府文件和阿拉伯叙利亚共和国外交部官员的访谈。二手数据来自书籍、文章、杂志、演讲文稿和一些网络资料。在这些数据的帮助下,我提出了本文了几条重要论点:第一个论点,阿拉伯国家联盟组织、土耳其以及一些欧洲国家和美国,宣布支持并资助武装团体反对叙利亚当局政府,将安理会视为压迫叙利亚当局的平台,以实现他们在这一地区的利益及目的。第二个论点是基于美国、欧盟和阿拉伯国家联盟的做法。这些国家和国际组织脱离安理会法律框架对叙利亚当局实施经济制裁,并威胁叙利亚将使用武力打击的手段,同时使用军事手段削弱叙利亚及其盟友的外交政策。第三个论点是关于中华人民共和国和俄罗斯联邦。这两个国家基于客观的处理和可靠的报告,使用否决权来阻止任何不符合《联合国宪章》和国际法决议。为了证明这一论点,我引入了两国对于“监察委员会有关叙利亚人道主义袭击和化武调查”,其工作机制以及结果的批评作为案例。最后,安理会处理叙利亚危机的做法也是世界大国权力均势的反映,叙利亚今天已经越来越成为全球冲突的主战场,以及各国争夺地缘政治利益前沿阵地。因此除非各大国宣布他们退出,否则各方力量是不会停止对叙利亚冲突的插手的。安理会必须采取严格的措施,禁止任何势力以任何形式支持反对派武装对抗叙利亚当局政府。如果安理会认为叙利亚的人道主义现状已经危及到了全世界的和平与安全,应该趁早作出决定,防止任何可能引起主要大国直接对抗的敌对行为的出现,这才是当前十分明朗且现实的危险。本篇论文的目的是回答“国际力量介入叙利亚危机的影响”这一问题,并且尝试找到解决这一问题的可能良方。

Detection and Identification of Potato Soft Rot <i>Pectobacterium carotovorum</i>Subspecies <i>carotovorum</i>by PCR Analysis of 16S rDNA in Jordan

Various bacterial species are known to be agents causing soft rot of potatoes. The results of this study showed that potato soft rot is widely spread in different potato planting areas in Jordan. A survey was conducted through the years 2013-2015 to detect potato soft rot disease in Jordan, two hundred and four rotted potato samples were collected from different potato growing areas through different potato growing seasons. One hundred and thirty one bacterial isolates were isolated, purified on selective media and identified as Pectobacterium carotovorum subspecies carotovorum (Pcc) by different biochemical and physiological tests. Furthermore, 131 Pcc Jordanian (Jo) isolates were identified by PCR analysis of total DNA extracted from isolates that were biochemically identified as Pcc using universal primer Fd1/Rd1. Cloning and sequencing of representative PCR products, amplifying the 16S rDNA region were done. Phylogenetic analysis of the Pcc Jo-isolates revealed other than 90% similarity with different reference Pcc strains available at the GenBank. Different rot causal agents also were detected by PCR amplification and further sequences. The sequencing data revealed similarities to Pseudomonas fluorescence, Enterobacteriaceae genera such as Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp. and Klebsiella spp., in addition to Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum. This study indicated that using molecular techniques such as amplification of 16S rDNA region is a sensitive and specific method for detecting Pcc as potato soft rot causal agent. So far this is the first study where Pcc has been identified by using PCR and sequencing approaches in Jordan.
