Effect of viscosity on the avalanche dynamics and flow transition of wet granular matter

The dynamic behaviour of granular flows is important in geo-mechanics and industrial applications,yet poorly *** studied the effects of liquid viscosity and particle size on the dynamics of wet granular material flowing in a slowly rotating drum,in order to detect the transition from the avalanching to the continuous flow regime.A discrete element method(dem)model,in which contact forces and cohesive forces were considered,was employed to simulate this flow *** model was validated experimentally,using glass beads in a wooden drum and water–glycerol mixtures to tune the liquid *** dem simulations showed comparable results to the experiments in terms of average slope angle and avalanche *** observed that the avalanche amplitude,flow layer velocity and granular temperature decrease as the liquid viscosity *** effect is more pronounced for smaller sized *** increase in viscous forces causes the flowing particles to behave as a bulk,pushing the free surface towards a convex *** addition,avalanches become less pronounced and the granular flow transitions from the avalanching regime to the continuous *** avalanching flow regime is marked by intermittent rigid body movement of the particulate bed and near-zero drops in the granular temperature,while no rigid body movement of the bed occurs in the continuous flow *** identified the avalanching-continuous flow transition region as a function of a dimensionless granular Galileo number.

Reparameterization of Single difference and Undifferenced Kinematic GPS Positioning models

A series of advantages of single difference (Sd) and undifferenced (Zd) models are given as compared with the double difference (dd) model. However, rank defects exist in Sd and Zd.m.dels. The reparameterization method is provided to resolve this rank defect problem by estimating some combinations of the unknowns rather than the unknowns themselves. The reparameterization of Sd and Zd functional models is discussed in detail with their stochastic models. The theoretical confirmation of the equivalence of undifferenced and differenced.m.dels is described in a straightforward way. The relationship between Sd and Zd residuals is given and verified for some special purposes, e.g. research on the stochastical properties of GPS observations.

Neurogenesis dynamics in the olfactory bulb:deciphering circuitry organization, function, and adaptive plasticity

Adult neurogenesis persists after birth in the subventricular zone, with new neurons migrating to the granule cell layer and glomerular layers of the olfactory bulb, where they integrate into existing circuitry as inhibitory interneurons. The generation of these new neurons in the olfactory bulb supports both structural and functional plasticity, aiding in circuit remodeling triggered by memory and learning processes. However, the presence of these neurons, coupled with the cellular diversity within the olfactory bulb, presents an ongoing challenge in understanding its network organization and function. moreover,the continuous integration of new neurons in the olfactory bulb plays a pivotal role in regulating olfactory information processing. This adaptive process responds to changes in epithelial composition and contributes to the formation of olfactory memories by modulating cellular connectivity within the olfactory bulb and interacting intricately with higher-order brain regions. The role of adult neurogenesis in olfactory bulb functions remains a topic of debate. Nevertheless, the functionality of the olfactory bulb is intricately linked to the organization of granule cells around mitral and tufted cells. This organizational pattern significantly impacts output, network behavior, and synaptic plasticity, which are crucial for olfactory perception and memory. Additionally, this organization is further shaped by axon terminals originating from cortical and subcortical regions. despite the crucial role of olfactory bulb in brain functions and behaviors related to olfaction, these complex and highly interconnected processes have not been comprehensively studied as a whole. Therefore, this manuscript aims to discuss our current understanding and explore how neural plasticity and olfactory neurogenesis contribute to enhancing the adaptability of the olfactory system. There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopaminergic ***,mice received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into the striatum to establish an animal model of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,animals were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the animals had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatment,voluntary exercise,or the combination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apomorphine-induction test or(iii)the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive terminals and induced a rise in dopamine concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatment or exercise alone,the combination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)improved forelimb balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal dOPAC/dopamine ratio and(iii)led to increased dopamine transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the combination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid may act synergistically in the striatum of mice with a unilateral lesion of the dopaminergic system and provide support for clinical trials combining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

defective recovery of QT dispersion following transcatheter aortic valve implantation： frequency, predictors and prognosis

Background Corrected QT dispersion （cQTd） has been correlated with non-uniform ventricular repolarisation and increased mortality. In patients with aortic stenosis, cQTd has been shown improved after surgical valve replacement, but the effects of transcatheter aortic valve implantation （TAVI） are unknown. Therefore, we sought to explore the frequency, predictors and prognostic effects of defective cQTd recovery at 6 months after TAVI. methods A total of 222 patients underwent TAVI with the medtronic-CoreValve System between November 2005 and January 2012. Patients who were on class Ⅰ or Ⅲ antiarrhythmics or on chronic haemodialysis or who developed atrial fibrillation, a new bundle branch block or became pacemaker dependent after TAVI were excluded. As a result, pre-, post- and follow-up ECG （median： 6 months） analysis was available in 45 eligible patients. defective cQTd recovery was defined as any progression beyond the baseline cQTd at 6 months. Results In the 45 patients, the mean cQTd was 47 ± 23 ms at baseline, 45 ±17 ms immediately after TAVI and 40 ± 16 ms at 6 months （15% reduction, P = 0.049）. Compared to baseline, cQTd at 6 months was improved in 60% of the patients whereas defective cQTd recovery was present in 40%. cQTd increase immediately after TAVI was an independent predictor of defective cQTd recovery at 6 months （per 10 ms increase; OR： 1.89, 95% CI： 1.15-3.12）. By univariable analysis, defective cQTd recovery was associated with late mortality （HR： 1.52, 95% CI： 1.05-2.17）. Conclusions despite a gradual reduction ofcQTd after TAVI, 40% of the patients had defective recovery at 6 months which was associated with late mortality. more detailed ECG analysis after TAVI may help to avoid late death.

AIm: To determine the tolerability and safety profile of a low-dose maintenance therapy with 6-TG in azathioprine (AZA) or 6-mercaptopurine (6-mP) intolerant inflammatory bowel disease (IBd) patients over a treatment period of at least 1 ***: database ***: Twenty out of ninety-five (21%) patients discontinued 6-TG (mean dose 24.6 mg; mean 6-TGN level 540 pmol/8×108 RBC) within 1 year. Reasons for discontinuation were GI complaints (31%), malaise (15%)and hepatotoxicity (15%). Hematological events occurred in three patients, one discontinued treatment. In the 6-TG-tolerant group, 9% (7/75) could be classified as hepatotoxicity. An abdominal ultrasound was performed in 54% of patients, one patient had ***: The majority of AZA or 6-mP-intolerant IBd patients (79%) is able to tolerate maintenance treatment with 6-TG (dosages between 0.3 and 0.4 mg/kg per d). 6-TG may still be considered as an escape maintenance immunosuppressant in this difficult to treat group of patients, taking into account potential toxicity and efficacy of other alternatives. The recently reported hepatotoxicity is worrisome and 6-TG should therefore be administered only in prospective trials.
