Applicability of Two Newmark Models in the Assessment of Coseismic Landslide Hazard and Estimation of Slope-Failure Probability: An Example of the 2008 Wenchuan M_w 7.9 Earthquake Affected Area

This paper presents the landslide hazard assessment and slope-failure function using two Newmark displacement models regressed by regional and global station records. Taking the 2008 Wenchuan M_w 7.9 earthquake area as an example, based on the topographic and geological data of the study area, we prepared a factor-of-safety(Fs) map and a critical acceleration(ac) map, respectively. Then using these two simplified Newmark models, two displacement maps were compiled by combining the ac map and peak ground acceleration(PGA) map. By virtue of the actual landslide inventory of the Wenchuan earthquake, we constructed the slope-failure probability curves of the two Newmark models. The results show that the abilities to predict landslide occurrence of the two simplified Newmark models are largely identical, by which the assessment results can well delineate the macroscopic distribution of coseismic landslides, and most predicted landslide cells are distributed on the two sides of the Beichuan-Yingxiu fault, especially Pengguan complex rock mass in the hanging wall of this fault. The probability equations of two Newmark models are roughly the same, though the parameters vary slightly. The probability equation proposed in this paper can be applied to the Wenchuan region and other areas with similar tectonic environments.

Landslide Susceptibility Mapping in Terms of the Slope-Unit or Raster-Unit,Which is Better?

Choice of appropriate mapping units is important in landslide susceptibility mapping(LSM).There are various possible units for this choice,while it remains unclear which one is better in *** purpose of this study is to make a quantitative comparison of two commonly-used units:slope-unit(SU)and raster-unit(RU)based on the landslides triggered by the 2013 Minxian,Gansu,China Mw5.9 *** landslide influencing factors were considered in this *** each type of mapping units,the 70%samples were randomly selected and trained 20 times on the LR model,yielding 20 susceptibility maps,and the remaining 30%samples were tested for the accuracy of the modeling *** metrics,including the mean probability,model uncertainty,and model prediction skills,were used to evaluate the quality of the susceptibility *** results show that the resultant probability maps using two mapping units can largely predict the distribution of actual landslides,on which the high susceptibility area corresponds to the landslide-prone *** AUC(area under curve)values,ranging from 0.8 to 0.86,show that the prediction ability of two mapping units is roughly the *** comparing with the RU,the use of SU can lower the model uncertainties caused by the variation of training *** converted the RU-based assessment results into SU-based *** results show that two assessment results are well fitted with good linear relationship,which implies that it is feasible to convert the RU-based landslide susceptibility mapping into the SU-based *** analysis indicates that compared with the RU,the SU cannot improve the performance and accuracy of seismic landslide susceptibility mapping.

Influence of membrane wing active deformation on the aerodynamic performance of an aircraft model

The aerodynamic performance of a simplified aircraft model with a pair of actively deformed membrane wings is investigated experimentally in this work. The active deformation is achieved with Macro fiber composite(MFC) actuators, which are attached to the upper surface of the wings and occupied 13.7% of the wing surface area. Wind tunnel experiments are conducted to evaluate the influence of membrane active deformation on the aerodynamic performance of the aircraft. The results show that the membrane deforms and vibrates under the actuation which can effectively suppress the leading-edge separation and facilitate the reattachment. Therefore, compared with the rigid wing model, the lift coefficient of the actively deformed membrane wing model is enhanced remarkably from the angle of attack of 7° to 22°. The stall angle is delayed by 2°, and a maximum lift coefficient enhancement of 32.5% is reached, which shows a wide potential application in improving the aerodynamic performance of modern aircraft.

BACKGROUND：Mailuoning, a Chinese herb, has been widely used in China to treat acute ischemic stroke, and the major component exhibits anti-oxidative effects. WAF-Based Chinese Character Recognition for Spam Image Filtering

We address the problem of filtering image spam, a kind of rapidly spread spam in which the text is embedded into images to defeat text-based spam ***, we focus on image spam with Chinese text as "spam" which is a more challenging task. A popular way to detect image spam is by Optical character recognition(OCR) system, which detects and recognizes the embedded text, then followed by a text classifier that discriminate spam from ham. However, spammers start to obscure image text to prevent OCR system discovering the spam text. To compensate for the shortcomings of OCR system, a novel method which essentially is a keyword reconstruction algorithm based on Word activation force(WAF) model is proposed. It is effective on discovering keywords, hence is benefit for the later classification stage and notably improve the performance of image spam filtering. The experimental results on a personal data set of spam images(publicly available) validate the effectiveness of our approach that outperforms the original OCR system in practical usage with complex background in image spam.

Inventory and Spatial Distribution of Landslides Triggered by the 8th August 2017 M_W 6.5 Jiuzhaigou Earthquake, China

An accurate and detailed seismic landslide inventory is essential to better understand the landslide mechanism and susceptibility. The 8 th August 2017 MW 6.5 Jiuzhaigou Earthquake of China initiated a large number of coseismic landslides. The results of the post-seismic survey show the actual landslide number might be underestimated in previous publications. Coupled with field investigation and visual interpretation on high-resolution remote sensing images before and after the main shock, we established a detailed inventory of landslides triggered by the earthquake. Results show that this event caused at least 4 834 individual landslides with a total area of 9.64 km^2. They are concentrated in an elliptical area of 434 km^2, dominated by medium-and small-scale rock falls and debris slides. Statistics indicate that, except for slope aspect that seems not significantly correlated with the landsliding, these landslides are most common in the places with following features: elevation of 2 800–3 400 m, slope angle greater than 30o, slope positions of upper, middle and flat slopes, and Carboniferous limestone and dolomite. Besides, the landslide area percentage(LAP) and landslide number density(LND) values decrease with the increasing distance to river channels and roads, implying a positive correlation. Instead of centering around the epicenter, most of these coseismic landslides are distributed along the inferred seismogenic fault, which means that the seismogenic structure played a more important role than the location of the epicenter. Remarkable differences in landslide densities along the fault indicate the varied landslide susceptibility which may be attributed to other varied controls along the fault such as the rock mass strength. In sum, this study presents a more detailed inventory of the landslides triggered by the 2017 MW 6.5 Jiuzhaigou Earthquake, describes their distribution pattern and analyzes its control factors, which would be helpful to understand the

Nowadays movement patterns and people＇s be- havioral models are needed for traffic engineers and city plan- ners. These observations could be used to reason about mobil- ity and its sustainability and to support decision makers with reliable information. The very same knowledge about human diaspora and behavior extracted from these data is also valu- able to the urban planner, so as to localize new services, orga- nize logistics systems and to detect changes as they occur in the movement behavior. Moreover, it is interesting to inves- tigate movement in places like a shopping area or a working district either for commercial purposes or for improving the service quality. These kinds of tracking data are made avail- able by wireless and mobile communication technologies. It is now possible to record and collect a large amount of mobile phone calls in a city. Technologies for object tracking have recently become affordable and reliable and hence we were able to collect mobile phone data from a city in China from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008. The large amount of phone call records from mobile operators can be considered as life mates and sensors of persons to inform how many peo- ple are present in any given area and how many are entering or leaving. Each phone call record usually contains the caller and callee IDs, date and time, and the base station where the phone calls are made. As mobile phones are widely used in our daily life, many human behaviors can be revealed by an- alyzing mobile phone data. Traditional information hiding techniques achieve information hiding by modifying carrier data,which can easily leave detectable traces that may be detected by steganalysis *** in image transmission,both geometric and non-geometric attacks can cause subtle changes in the pixels of the image during *** overcome these challenges,we propose a constructive robust image steganography technique based on style *** traditional steganography,our algorithm does not involve any direct modifications to the carrier *** this study,we constructed a mapping dictionary by setting the correspondence between binary codes and image categories and then used the mapping dictionary to map secret information to secret *** image semantic segmentation and style transfer techniques,we combined the style of secret images with the content of public images to generate stego *** type of stego image can resist interference during public channel transmission,ensuring the secure transmission of *** the receiving end,we input the stego image into a trained secret image reconstruction network,which can effectively reconstruct the original secret image and further recover the secret information through a mapping dictionary to ensure the security,accuracy,and efficient decoding of the *** experimental results show that this constructive information hiding method based on style transfer improves the security of information hiding,enhances the robustness of the algorithm to various attacks,and ensures information security.
