Litsea elliptica Blume leaves have been traditionally used as medicinal herbs because of its antimutagenicity,chemopreventative and insecticidal properties. In this study,the toxic effects of L. elliptica essential oil against sprague-Dawley rat’s red blood cells (RBCs) were evaluated. L. elliptica essential oil was given by oral gavage 5 times per week for 3 treated groups in the doses of 125,250,and 500 mg/(kg body weight),respectively,and the control group received distilled water. Full blood count,RBC osmotic fragility,RBC morphological changes,and RBC membrane lipid were analyzed 28 d after the treatment. Although L. elliptica essential oil administration had significantly different effects on hemoglobin (Hb),mean cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC),mean cell volume (MCV),and mean cell hemoglobin (MCH) in the experimental groups as compared to the control group (Ps were still within the normal range. L. elliptica induced morphological changes of RBC into the form of echinocyte. The percentage of echinocyte increased significantly among the treated groups in a dose-response manner (Ps of RBC membrane phospholipids and cholesterol of all treated groups were significantly lower than those of control group (Psmotic fragility and total proteins of RBC membrane findings did not differ significantly between control and treated groups (P>0.05). It is concluded that structural changes in the RBC membrane due to L. elliptica essential oil administration did not cause severe membrane damage.

Fourth instar larvae of Chironomus kiiensis (Tokunaga) were exposed to various concentrations of two commonly used herbicides: 2,4 - D Dimethylamine and Bensulfuron methyl in the rice fields. The bioassay experiment was carried out in a rearing unit in the laboratory at a room temperature ((27 ±2) °C). A thin layer of sand sediments and tissue papers were provided as substrate in each unit. Each concentration of all herbicides was prepared in 250 mL distilled water. The experiment was performed in triplicate and 20 chironomid larvae were placed in each rearing unit. The larvae were fed with fish food (sanyuichiban®) at 2 d intervals and all units were aerated by air pumps. The experiment was monitored every 24 h for mortality of C. kiiensis. The 2,4 - D Dimethylamine bioassay was carried out for 24 h while Bensulfuron methyl was run for 72 h. Dead larvae, pupae and living or dead adults were counted and removed daily. The LC50 of 2,4 - D Dimethylamine was 2 638 mg ai L-1, more than 2 000 times higher than the recommended dose of 0.753 mg ai L-1 used for controlling weeds in the rice field. Bensulfuron methyl was more toxic than the 2,4 - D Dimethylamine. The LC 50 of the Bensulfuron methyl was recorded at 1.29 mg ai L -1, and approximately was more 20 times than that of the recommended dose of 0.057 mg ai L-1. Bensulfuron methyl was found to be slow acting. The mortality of the larvae was only observed after 72 h. However, this herbicide interfered with the emergence of C. kiiensis to adults at and above the recommended dose used in the rice fields. Based on their LC50 values, this study showed that applying these herbicides in the rice fields at doses recommended by the manufacturers was safe for C. kiiensis and presumably to other living organisms in the water.

Micro-expression is manifested through subtle and brief facial movements that relay the genuine person’s hidden *** a sequence of videos,there is a frame that captures the maximum facial differences,which is called the apex ***,apex frame spotting is a crucial sub-module in a micro-expression recognition ***,this spotting task is very challenging due to the characteristics of micro-expression that occurs in a short duration with low-intensity muscle ***,most of the existing automated works face difficulties in differentiating micro-expressions from other facial ***,this paper presents a deep learning model with an attention mechanism to spot the micro-expression apex frame from optical flow *** attention mechanism is embedded into the model so that more weights can be allocated to the regions that manifest the facial movements with higher *** method proposed in this paper has been tested and verified on two spontaneous micro-expression databases,namely spontaneous Micro-facial Movement(sAMM)and Chinese Academy of sciences Micro-expression(CAsME)II *** proposed system performance is evaluated by using the Mean Absolute Error(MAE)metric that measures the distance between the predicted apex frame and the ground truth *** best MAE of 14.90 was obtained when a combination of five convolutional layers,local response normalization,and attention mechanism is used to model the apex frame *** with limited datasets,the results have proven that the attention mechanism has better emphasized the regions where the facial movements likely to occur and hence,improves the spotting performance.

AIM: To investigate the allele and genotype frequencies and associated risk of interleukin (IL)-8-251T>A polymorphism on colorectal cancer (CRC) susceptibility risk. METHODs: Peripheral blood samples of 255 normal controls and 255 clinically and histopathologically confirmed CRC patients were genotyped for IL-8-251T>A polymorphism employing allele-specific polymerase chain reaction. The relative association of variant allele and genotypes with CRC susceptibility risk was determined by calculating the odds ratios (ORs). Corresponding χ 2 tests on the CRC patients and controls were carried out and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were determined using Fisher's exact test. The allele frequencies and its risk association were calculated using FAMHAP, haplotype association analysis software. REsULTs: On comparing the frequencies of genotypesof patients and controls, the homozygous variant AA was significantly higher in CRC patients (P = 0.002) compared to controls. Investigation on the association of the polymorphic genotypes with CRC susceptibility risk, showed that the homozygous variant IL-8 -251AA had a significantly increased risk with OR 3.600 (95% CI: 1.550-8.481, P = 0.001). In the case of allele frequencies, variant allele A of IL-8 -251 showed a significantly increased risk of CRC predisposition with OR 1.32 (95% CI: 1.03-1.69,P = 0.003). CONCLUsION: Variant allele and genotype of IL-8 (-251 T>A) was significantly associated with CRC susceptibility risk and could be considered as a high-risk variant for CRC predisposition.

Undeniably Kelantan is one of the east coast states of Malaysia,which has faced yearly flooding catastrophe especially during north-east-monsoon *** aims of this study are to record the land uses from upstream to downstream of Kelantan River basin,and to record the riparian vegetation that are resistance and susceptible to flood situations in affected areas along the bank of Kelantan River after December 2014 when the worst flood was recorded for decades.A serial of surveys were conducted at 9 sampling sites(s1 to s9)from the upstream to the downstream in the *** massive clearing in the forest in the basin particularly in the upper streams was a serious *** loads of sedimentations greatly affected the hydrological system of Kelantan *** were 64 plant species were recorded in this *** sampling sites were submerged and most of the riparian plants survived although the flood levels reached 10 *** the other hand,some commercial tree species such as Elaeis guenensis,Lansium parasiticum and Nephelium lappaceum could not thrive in flooding *** should be noted that the populations of noxious,such as Mimosa pigra and Piper aduncum had colonized most parts of riparian *** due to the disturbances of catchment and riparian vegetations,the river water regimes have been ***,the ecological assessments and socio-economic approaches were recommended in order to mitigate the flood situation.

Objectives:We aim to explore the factors related to the health promotion behavior of reproductive health(RH)among Indonesian adolescents via structural equation ***:A cross-sectional quantitative study was used to measure 108 adolescents aged 12-16 *** employed a self-administered questionnaire developed from the health promotion model(HPM)and the empowerment model(EM)on the basis of self-efficacy to determine the factors related to health promotion in maintaining RH *** equation modeling(sEM)was used to examine re-lationships among the *** Analysis of Moment structures(AMOs)approach was used to evaluate if the proposed model is suitable for the data based on goodness-of-fit ***:The model is appropriate for the *** interrelationships emerge among independent variables(P>0.05),namely,personal and cognitive behaviors(r=-0.01),cognitive and health pro-motion behaviors(r=0.09),and affective and health promotion behaviors(r=-0.17).The strongest relationship is between empowerment and health promotion behavior(r=0.72).Affection(interper-sonal and situational influences),immediate competing demands and preferences,and empowerment(participation and control)are directly related to RH behavior ***,willingness of adolescents,prior related behavior,personal factor,and commitment to a plan of action are indirectly related to RH behavior *** model explains 43.9%of the variance in maintaining RH ***:The HPM and EM models help determine the factors related to RH behavior maintenance among *** to promote RH among Indonesian adolescents should begin from the level of child-parent-health care professional encounter for empowering the RH of adolescents.

Modeling, predictive and generalization capabilities of response surface methodology (RsM) and artificial neural network (ANN) have been performed to assess the thermal structure of the experimentally studied catalytic combustion of stabilized confined turbulent gaseous diffusion flames. The Pt/γAlsub>2sub>Osub>3sub> and Pd/γAlsub>2sub>Osub>3sub> disc burners were located in the combustion domain and the experiments were accomplished under both fuel-rich and fuel-lean conditions at a modified equivalence (fuel/air) ratio (øspan>) of 0.75 and 0.25, respectively. The thermal structure of these catalytic flames developed over the Pt and Pd disc burners was scrutinized via measuring the mean temperature profiles in the radial direction at different discrete axial locations along with the flames. The RSM and ANN methods investigated the effect of the two operating parameters namely (r), the radial distance from the center line of the flame, and (x), axial distance along with the flame over the disc, on the measured temperature of the flames and predicted the corresponding temperatures beside predicting the maximum temperature and the corresponding input process variables. A three-layered Feed Forward Neural Network was developed in conjugation with the hyperbolic tangent sigmoid (tansig) transfer function and an optimized topology of 2:10:1 (input neurons:hidden neurons:output neurons).
