This review paper explores the potential of oil palm biomass as a valuable cellulose source for the production of nitrocellulose-based propellants,contributing to the green revolution and susta.nable energy *** highlights the availability of the corresponding biomass in Malaysia and in line with global studies,the chemical compositions,as well as a brief description of current technologies for converting biomass of oil palm into value added products specifically *** to achieve maximum utilization of biomass from oil palm industry for cellulose production and prospective source for nitrocellulose-based propellant are also *** methodology section outlines the pretreatment of lignocellulosic fibres,cellulose extraction,and nitrocellulose production ***,the review underscores the prospective of palm oil biomass as a susta.nable cellulose source for propellant manufacturing,while acknowledging the need for further research and advancements in the field.

Agricultural wastes,including cocoa pod husk(waste from the chocolate industry)and sugarcane bagasse(waste from the sugar industry),are increasing day by *** development of food packaging biofilms from these two wastes could be beneficial to the environment and ***,this study was conducted to develop biodegradable plastic films by using cocoa pod husk and sugarcane *** and fibre were extracted from cocoa pod husk and sugar-cane bagasse,*** developed bioplastic films were divided into several concentration ratios of cellulose and fibre which are 100꞉0(100%cellulose),75꞉25(cellulose꞉fibre),50꞉50(cel-lulose꞉fibre),25꞉75(cellulose꞉fibre),and 0꞉100(100%fibre).The physicochemical properties for all bioplastic concentration ratios were determined in terms of sensory evaluation,drying time,moisture content,water absorption and water vapor *** the observation and anal-ysis of the physicochemical properties of bioplastic,we found that the most suitable bioplastic film for food packaging goes to the combination of 75%cellulose and 25%fibre bioplastic,as it demonstrated the lowest water absorption percentage and water vapor permeability.

Litsea elliptica Blume has been traditionally used to treat headache,fever,and stomach ulcer,and has also been used as an insect *** acute and subacute toxicities of *** essential oil were evaluated orally by gavage in female Sprague-Dawley *** the acute toxicity study,*** essential oil was administered in doses from 500 to 4 000 mg/kg(single dose),and in the subacute toxicity test,the following doses were used:125,250,and 500 mg/kg,for 28 consecutive *** the acute toxicity study,*** essential oil caused dose-dependent adverse behaviours and *** median lethal dose value was 3 488.86 mg/kg and the acute non-observed-adversed-effect level value was found to be 500 mg/*** subacute toxicity study of *** essential oil did not reveal alterations in body weight,and food and water *** haematological and biochemical analyses did not show significant differences between control and treated groups in most of the parameters examined,except for the hemoglobin,mean cell hemoglobin concentration,mean cell volume,mean cell hemoglobin,serum albumin,and serum ***,these differences were still within the normal *** abnormalities or histopathological changes were observed in the liver,pancreatic islet of Langerhans,and renal glomerulous and tubular cells of all treated *** conclusion,*** essential oil can be classified in the U group,which is defined as a group unlikely to present an acute hazard according to World Health Organization(WHO) classification.

Litsea elliptica Blume leaves have been traditionally used as medicinal herbs because of its antimutagenicity,chemopreventative and insecticidal properties. In this study,the toxic effects of L. elliptica essential oil aga.nst Sprague-Dawley rat’s red blood cells (RBCs) were evaluated. L. elliptica essential oil was given by oral gavage 5 times per week for 3 treated groups in the doses of 125,250,and 500 mg/(kg body weight),respectively,and the control group received distilled water. Full blood count,RBC osmotic fragility,RBC morphological changes,and RBC membrane lipid were analyzed 28 d after the treatment. Although L. elliptica essential oil administration had significantly different effects on hemoglobin (Hb),mean cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC),mean cell volume (MCV),and mean cell hemoglobin (MCH) in the experimental groups as compared to the control group (Pn the normal range. L. elliptica induced morphological changes of RBC into the form of echinocyte. The percentage of echinocyte increased significantly among the treated groups in a dose-response ma.ner (Pncentrations of RBC membrane phospholipids and cholesterol of all treated groups were significantly lower than those of control group (Pne osmotic fragility and total proteins of RBC membrane findings did not differ significantly between control and treated groups (P>0.05). It is concluded that structural changes in the RBC membrane due to L. elliptica essential oil administration did not cause severe membrane damage.

The influence of physical and chemical parameters on the abundance and diversity of chironomids was studied in six rivers with moderate to highly polluted water in the Juru River Basin. The rivers: Ceruk Tok Kun (CTKR) as reference site, and polluted rivers of Pasir (PR), Juru (JR), Permatang Rawa (PRR), Ara (AR) and Kilang Ubi (KUR) were sampled over a period of five months (november 2007-March 2008). nine chirnomid species: Chironimus kiiensis, C. javanus, Polypedilum trigonus, Microchironomus sp., Dicrotendipes sp., Tanytarsus formosanus, Clinotanypus sp., Tanypus punctipennis and Fittkauimyia sp. were identified. Assessment of their relationships with several environmental parameters was performed using the canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). Tanytarsus formosanus was the most dominant in the relatively clean CTKR and moderately polluted JR with mean densities of 19.66 and 25.32 m 2 , respectively while C. kiiensis was abundant in more polluted rivers. Tanytarsus formosanus, Dicrotendipes sp. and Microchironomus sp. were grouped under moderate to high water temperature, total organic matter (TOM), total suspended solids (TSS), velocity, pH, phosphates and sulphates. However, Tanypus punctipennis, Fittkauimyia sp., and Clinotanypus sp. were associated with high contents of river sediment such as TOM, Zn and Mn and water ammonium-n and nitrate-n and they were associated with higher dissolved oxygen (DO) content in the water. Chironomus kiiensis, C. javanus and P. trigonus showed positive relationships with TOM, ammonium-n and nitrate-n as well as trace metals of Zn, Cu and Mn. These three species could be considered as tolerant species since they have the ability to survive in extreme environmental conditions with low DO and high concentrations of pollutants. Based on the water parameter scores in all rivers, the highest diversity of chironomid larvae was reported in CTKR. nonlinear photovoltaic(PV)output is greatly affected by the nonuniform distribution of daily irradiance,preventing conventional protection devices from reliably detecting *** fault dia.nosis and good ma.ntenance systems are essential for optimizing the overall productivity of a PV system and improving its life ***,a multiscale smart fault dia.nosis model for improved PV system ma.ntenance strategies is *** study focuses on dia.nosing permanent faults(open-circuit faults,ground faults,and line-line faults)and temporary faults(partial shading)in PV arrays,using the random forest algorithm to conduct time-series analysis of waveform length and autoregression(RF-WLAR)as the ma.n features,with 10-fold cross-validation using Matlab/*** actual irradiance data at 5.86°n and 102.03°E were used as inputs to produce simulated data that closely matched the on-site PV output *** data from the ma.ntenance database of a 2 MW PV power plant in Pasir Mas Kelantan,Malaysia,were used for field testing to verify the developed *** RF-WLAR model achieved an average fault-type classification accuracy of 98%,with 100%accuracy in classifying partial shading and line-line faults.

Star-forming processes strongly influence the ISM ***,many high-quality databases are available at millimeter *** them,it is possible to carry out studies that review and deepen previous *** these studies involve large samples of sources,it is preferred to use direct tools to study the molecular *** the aim of testing these tools such as the use of the HCn/HnC ratio as a thermometer,and the use of H^(13)CO^(+),HC_(3)n,n_(2)H^(+) and C_(2)H as "chemical clocks," we present a molecular line study toward 55 sources representing massive young stellar objects at different evolutionary stages:infrared dark clouds(IRDCs),highmass protostellar objects(HMPOs),hot molecular cores(HMCs) and ultracompact H II *** found that the use of the HCn/HnC ratio as a universal thermometer in the ISM should be taken with care because the HCn optical depth is a big issue that can affect the ***,this tool should be utilized only after a careful analysis of the HCn spectrum,checking that no line,neither the ma.n nor the hyperfine ones,presents absorption *** point out that the analysis of the emission of H^(13)CO^(+),HC_(3)n,n_(2)H^(+) and C_(2)H could be useful to trace and distinguish regions among IRDCs,HMPOs and *** molecular line widths of these four species increase from the IRDC to the HMC stage,which can be a consequence of the gas dynamics related to the starforming processes taking place in the molecular *** results not only contribute with more statistics,acting as a probe of such chemical tools,useful to obta.n information in large samples of sources,but also complement previous works through the analysis of other types of sources.

A study on the sedimentology of the Redang Island coral reefs environment was conducted. Sediments were collected on board UnIPERTAMA VII during the pre and post monsoon seasons. Twenty and seven sediments samples were collected using a Smith McIntyre grab on board UnI PERTAMA VII and put in labelled plastic bags then brought back to the laboratory for analysis. The sediments were analyzed for their sedimentological characteristics （mean size, skewness, standard deviation and kurtosis） using dry sieving method. Results showed that the highest mean size value of the sediments during the pre and post monsoons seasons are 2.14 ~ and 2.37 O. respectively and the lowest are -0.40 q~ and -0.10 ~, respectively. Based on the results, sediments can be classified as medium sand （34%）, poorly sorted （67%）, strongly negative skewed （36%） and extremely leptokurtic （56%） during the pre monsoon season, while during the post monsoon season sediments can be classified as medium sand （38%）, poorly sorted （73%）, strongly negative skewed （41%） and very leptokurtic （62%）. Results revealed that the sediments in the whole study area are relatively coarse. no relationship was observed between mean size and other sedimentological characteristics （R2= 0.05 pre-monsoon. R2 =0.0017 post monsoon） with seasons.

A Preliminary Genetic Investigation of Rastrelliger Kanagurta Based on Random Amplified Polymorphic DnA and Mitochondrial nD2 Gene

In a preliminary investigation, Random Amplified Polymorphic DnA (RAPD) analysis and partial mitochondrial nD2 gene sequencing were conducted to study the genetic variation of the Indian mackerel, Rastrelliger kanagurta along a 450 km stretch of its distribution on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. A total of 53 individuals from 6 populations were analyzed using 4 RAPD primers and a sub-sample of 15 individuals was chosen for sequencing of partial nD2 gene. Comparison between the 2 markers revealed genetic structuring in the RAPD results but genetic homogeneity for nD2 gene. Based on the former there may be at least 2 genetically differentiated groups of Rastrelliger kanagurta along this stretch.
