BACKGROUND The demand for the development of cancer nanomedicine has increased due to its great therapeutic value that can overcome the limitations of conventional cancer ***,the presence of various bioactive compounds in crude plant extracts used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)makes its precise mechanisms of action *** To assessed the mRNA transcriptome profiling of human HepG2 cells exposed to Catharanthus roseus ***(***)-*** The proliferative activity of hepatocellular carcinoma(HepG2)and normal human liver(THLE3)cells treated with *** were measured using MTT *** RNA samples were extracted and sequenced using BGIseq500 *** is followed by data filtering,mapping,gene expression analysis,differentially expression genes analysis,Gene Ontology analysis,and pathway *** The mean IC 50 values of *** on HepG2 was 4.38±1.59μg/mL while on THLE3 cells was 800±1.55μg/*** profiling revealed an alteration of 296 *** induced the expression of stress-associated genes such as MT,HSP and *** signalling pathways were potentially activated through MAPK,TNF and TGF pathways that are responsible for apoptosis and cell cycle *** alteration of ARF6,EHD2,FGFR3,RhoA,EEA1,VPS28,VPS25,and TSG101 indicated the uptake of ***-AgNPs via both clathrin-dependent and clathrinindependent *** This study provides new insights into gene expression study of biosynthesised AgNPs on cancer *** cytotoxicity effect is mediated by the aberrant gene alteration,and more interestingly the unique selective antiproliferative properties indicate the *** as an ideal anticancer candidate.

We report a rapid method for synthesis of zeolitic imidazolate framework 8(ZIF-8)-decorated graphene oxide(GO)composites(ZGO)with good antibacterial *** ZGO composites were synthesized at room temperature with low GO to metal salt *** samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,thermal gravimetric analysis,and surface area *** characterization results show that ZIF-8 with a size of approximately 120 nm is successfully decorated on the surface of GO sheets with the host ZIF-8 framework maintained in the synthesized composite,but there is a significant reduction in the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface *** antibacterial activities of the samples against Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 as model strains of gram-negative and-positive bacteria,respectively,were determined by disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)***-1.0(1 wt%of ratio of GO to metal salt)shows the highest antibacterial activity with MIC values required to inhibit bacterial growth of *** and *** of 5 times lower than those of pristine *** antibacterial mechanisms are proposed based on field-emission scanning electron microscope images of the two bacteria after contact with the synthesized ***,owing to the simple synthesis,good stability,low chemical usage,and excellent antibacterial activity of the ZGO composites,they show great potential for application in the field of microbial contamination control.

Latent tuberculosis infection among medical students in Malaysia

Objective: This study aimed to determine prevalence of latent tuberculosis infection among medical students and tuberculosis exposure at the health facilities. Methods: A cross-section of study year 1(n=68) and year 5(n=75) medical students in a local university were recruited for latent tuberculosis infection testing using QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus and a questionnaire analyzed for multivariate risk. Results: The majority of the study were vaccinated with BCG. None of year 1 medical students were positive for latent tuberculosis infection, however, six(8.0%) year 5 students were tested positive for latent tuberculosis infection. A higher incidence of year 5 medical students claimed to be exposed to tuberculosis at health facility(65.3% vs. 4.4%) and a higher percentage reported contact with tuberculosis case over the preceding year compared to year 1 students(30.7% vs. 8.8%). Conclusion: We observed a higher incidence of latent tuberculosis infection and higher exposure to tuberculosis in health facilities among year 5 medical students. Baseline screening and monitoring for progression to tuberculosis infection may benefit tuberculosis management programs.

The present study, conducted during 2016 and 2017 seasons, aimed to investigate the effect of IBA on rooting of Piper betle L. stem cuttings (softwood and semi-hardwood). The experiment was undertaken in misting house field 2 UPM using the sand media to determine the adventitious roots initiation and development using the histological method. The cuttings were treated with different IBA concentrations (0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg/L). The nodes explants were used in the development of a protocol for in vitro propagation of P. betle L., with different concentrations of Clorox with different times of immersion (20% Clorox 10 minutes, 30% Clorox 10 minutes, 20% Clorox 20 minutes, and 30% 20 minutes). In multiplication of the plantlets, Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with different concentrations of BAP (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 mg/L) were used to investigate the rooting of the explants. The results indicated that the types of the cuttings were different in the rooting capacity and the length of the roots. Moreover, it was found that in comparison with the control treatment, by a rise in the concentrations of the IBA, there was a significant upsurge in the rooting percentage, the root diameter, and the number of the roots. The results indicated that the types of cutting with 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg/L IBA perform better in the root percentage (100%) in the semi hardwood cuttings. The best results, however, were 2000 mg/L IBA in the semi hardwood cuttings, with the number of the roots to be 35.05, and the fresh weight of the roots to be 3.94 g, the dry weight of the roots to be 0.33 g, the length of the roots to be 391.88 cm, the roots diameter to be 1.21 mm, the surface area of the roots to be 121.83 cm2, and the root volume to be 2.99 cm3.
