Applicability of Gravity Separation Method on the Ashashire Gold Ore Deposit from Benishangul Gumuz Region, Western ethiopia

The study was conducted to determine the applicability of gravity separation method on the Ashashire gold ore deposit Benishangul gumuz region, western ethiopia. The Ashashire composite was produced to provide sufficient mass for this study and experiment, including sample preparation, mineralogical analysis of gold and associated elements, gravity concentration, and data interpretation and analysis. During the study, a grind optimization was conducted on the composites sample with varying grind size to evaluate the effect of grind size on gold recovery. The ore was moderately ground to the standard grind size of 80%, passing 106 µm, 75 µm, 53 µm and this nominal size was selected for the preliminary assessment for concentration optimization for this deposit. The gravity testing comprised three-stage concentration using Knelson concentrator. High recovery of gold from the gravity concentrates was achieved from the second gravity concentration. Based on the laboratory experimental result analysis, a grind size of P80 75 µm is selected as optimal size for the Ashashire gold deposit. Increasing the grind size from P80 of 75 µm to 106 µm decreases the recovery rate from 75% to 54%, or decreasing the grind size from P80 of 75 µm to 53 µm decreases the gold recovery rate to 37%. The native gold grain in the ores is mostly associated with quartz and fine gold is closely associated with pyrite. According to analysis of the fire assay, chemical, and mineralogical data, only gold and telluride is commercially valuable elements in the ores. Predominantly gold was occurred in the native form of Au-Te. The sample subjected to gravity separation assayed about 2.6 g/t Au.

离子液体(ILs)的毒物兴奋效应(hormesis)使其低浓度、长期暴露的生态危害备受关注。本文以N-乙基吡啶溴([epyr]Br)作为ILs代表,以秀丽隐杆线虫为受试生物,开展连续多世代与跨世代生殖毒性效应研究,并从脂代谢酶、代谢中间产物探索其潜在机理。研究结果表明,在连续暴露的11代中,[epyr]Br在0.53 mg·L^(-1)水平对F1、F2、F3、F7、F8、F9和F10代线虫生殖产生刺激效应,在F6和F11中产生抑制效应;在53 mg·L^(-1)水平,在更多世代中表现出抑制效应,并且抑制水平比低浓度更强。跨世代效应中,[epyr]Br对F1脱离暴露的后代T3的生殖效应在高、低浓度均表现为抑制效应;同时,[epyr]Br在低浓度连续11代暴露后,对其脱离暴露的后代T3’的生殖依然表现出刺激效应;但[epyr]Br在高浓度多世代暴露后,对T3’无显著残留效应。在F1~F11代中,[epyr]Br对三酰基甘油(TG)、乙酰辅酶A(ACA)、磷酸甘油酰基转移酶(GPAT)、肉碱棕榈酰转移酶(CPT)等脂代谢物、代谢酶活性的多世代效应也表现为刺激、抑制效应的波动变化,各生化指标效应之间以及与生殖效应之间均存在密切关联,并存在高低浓度效应差异。在T3、T3’中,[epyr]Br对脂代谢物、脂代谢酶表现出显著的跨世代残留效应。综上,[epyr]Br连续多世代暴露的生殖毒性及其在脱离暴露后代中的残留效应,均与脂代谢密切相关,并受到暴露浓度的显著影响。

The use of eucalyptus trees, in association with other plants, has the potential to reduce the growth of neighbouring plants or grasses by competing for resources or releasing allelochemicals that may cause other plants to grow slowly. Our purpose here is to assess whether border planting of eucalyptus is harmful to the establishment,growth, and production of Cymbopogon winterianus at various distances from tree lines in the Wondo Genet Agricultural Research Center in Southern ethiopia. Several factors were studied: growth performances and yield of aromatic grasses; soil properties, including total nitrogen,organic carbon, and moisture content; and plant leaf nutrient content(NPK) at various distances away from the eucalyptus citriodora border line were studied. Chemical compositions of hydro-distilled essential oils obtained from selected C. winterianus grasses leaves were analysed by gas chromatography. Plant height, biomass yield, amount of essential oil yield, and essential oil composition all were significantly affected due to eucalyptus effect in the first10-m distance as compared to beyond 10 m from the tree border line. There were increases in soil total nitrogen,organic carbon, and moisture content with decreasing distances to the eucalyptus tree border. The result of plant leaf nutrient content(NPK) differed across treatment and distance. The pot experiment(15 cm 9 20 cm), shoot length,and number of leaves of aromatic plants varied in the degree of inhibition based on the concentration of the aqueous extract. Significantly higher inhibitions of the shoot length and number of leaf parameters were observed when using 25% fresh leaf extract compared to other extract levels.

The effect of Traffic on Ballast Settlement

The main factor that contributes to the deterioration of track components is traffic load. explanations on how the speed, load and repetition of traffic influence the long-term settlement of ballast in a ballasted track are very scarce. Having in mind that tracks subjected to the same load show different settlement behaviors, explanations of track settlements in accordance with the speed, load and repetition are needed. This study is motivated to show how traffic affects the long-term settlement of ballast and how the traffic parameters (speed, load and repetition) contribute to the process. Using finite element modeling software, the three-dimensional track is modeled and analyzed for different values of speed, load and number of repetitions. Drucker Prager plastic model is applied for the ballast and sub-ballast materials of the track. To get the parameters for the Drucker Prager plastic model of granular materials, triaxial test simulation is performed using discrete element software. Hertz’s contact theory is used to model the contact between the wheel and rail. The long-term settlement behavior of ballast material is analyzed by applying 8000 cycles of moving axel load. According to the analyses, a change in the speed and the number of repetitions of train movement changes the permanent settlement of ballast more than the variation in load. Increase in the speed of train movement by 20 km/hr. will increase the stress transferred to the subgrade by up to about 1000 kPa. Speed of train movement is the most contributing parameter in the degradation of ballast material more than the load and number of repetitions. In a conventional ballasted track after about 6000 repetitions of train movement ballast material will start to decrease its performance. 目的:探究埃塞俄比亚西南部的眼外伤类型、严重程度和预后因素。方法:回顾性研究。选取2009-04/09就诊于季马大学专科医院的眼外伤患者纳入本研究。所有患者均进行详细诊断,并接受全面眼科检查。SPSS 13.0进行数据分析,P<0.05表示差异有统计学意义。结果:眼外伤总患病率为3.03%。近99%的眼外伤为机械性损伤。多数眼外伤(53.2%)与工作相关,这些患者受伤时均未使用眼部防护装置。在170例眼外伤中,57.6%为闭合性眼外伤,42.4%为开放性眼外伤。闭合性眼外伤较开放性眼外伤的损伤程度较低,且有明显较好的视力预后(P<0.05)。最终视力和就诊时视力与从诊断到手术的时间间隔明显相关(P<0.05)。眼外伤致单眼失明患者59例(34.3%)。就诊晚、就诊时视力差、开放性眼外伤和并发症是导致低视力的危险因素。结论:大多数眼外伤发生在工作场所,且有较大比例的眼外伤患者发展为单眼失明。为预防严重的眼外伤,应在家中和工作场所普及眼部健康教育知识并做好安全防护措施。

Prevalence of bovine hydatidosis in Kombolcha eLFORA abattoir, North eastern ethiopia

A study to determine the prevalence of bovine hydatidosis was conducted in Kombolcha eLFORA abattoir. A total of 400 cattle randomly sampled and examined after slaughter for the presence of hydatid cysts in the organs and viscera of the animals using the standard meat inspection procedures. Positive or suspected samples were taken to the parasitology laboratory at the Kombolcha regional laboratory and cyst identification, fertility and viability tests were performed. The statistical analysis showed that there was no difference (P > 0.05) between the prevalence of bovine hydatidosis and sex of animals, P > 0.05. The prevalence of hydatidosis was also found to be significant with the age and origin of the study animals (P examined, 154(80.63%) calcified, 1(0.51%) sterile, and 36(18.85%) fertile cysts. From the total fertile cysts, 24(72.22%) were found to be viable. Of 108 cysts recorded in the lung, 74(68.52%) calcified, 1(0.93%) sterile, 21(19.44%) viable and 12(11.11%) were non viable. Furthermore, of 70 cysts recorded in the liver, 67 (95.71%) were found to be calcified and 3(4.29%) viable. A total of 16,068 cattle were slaughtered from 2003 to August 2007 and the overall 1955 (12.17%) prevalence of hydatidosis was recorded. The results of this study showed that hydatidosis pose significant economic problems by causing condemnation of considerable numbers organs, rendering them unfit for market. Therefore, initiation and implementation of control measures is necessary in order to alleviate its economic impact as well as zoonotic risks to the human.

目前,全球各个地方都在面对着能源短缺、气候变暖、环境污染等问题,其中也是因为二氧化碳的排放量增加而产生这些问题。但再生能源的研究范围内,二氧化碳是可以直接还原反应合成为CH4、 CH2O、CH3OH、HCOOH、低碳氢类。所以光催化还原二氧化碳已成为研究者们集中研究的方向。Zn2GeO4是一种具有催化活性高的新型光催化剂,目前已经引人不少研究者关注。本文以Zn(CH3COO)2·2H2O、GeO2和乙二胺溶液作为原料通过溶剂热法制备Zn2GeO4光催化剂,以La203、石墨烯(RGO)、四氧化三铁(Fe304)作为掺杂物对Zn2GeO4光催化剂进行改性研究,通过用X射线粉末衍射(XRD)、高分辨率的透射电镜(HRTeM)和氮气吸脱附分析(BeT)对光催化剂的结构做表征分析。以气相反应器进行光催化水蒸汽还原二氧化碳所合成甲烷的产量率对Zn2GeO4光催化性能评价。主要研究的内容及成果如下：(1)采用溶剂热法在不同条件下进行研究制备Zn2GeO4光催化剂的最佳制备条件,本文研究了乙二胺和水比例(Ven:Vwater)为2：1的不同乙二胺水溶液用量、不同溶剂热温度、不同的溶剂热所用的时间和乙酸锌与二氧化锗不同用量比例(mZn(Ac)2/mGeO2)对Zn2GeO4光催化剂结构影响。(2)本研究以原料mZn(Ac)2/mGeO2=2、Ven:Vwater=2:1在180℃溶剂加热24h条件下成功制备棒状的Zn2GeO4光催化剂,其Zn2GeO4纳米棒光催化剂的直径约为20～35nm,长度为150nm。(3)采用气相色谱仪外标计量法计算甲烷产量,在汞灯光源下同样的Zn2GeO4光催化剂用量进行反应,甲烷产量是随着CO2流量增加而增加,CO2=24.7mL/min得到最高甲烷产量为7.3ppm产量速率为10.0μmol/g·h, CO2=42.8mL/min得到最高甲烷产量为32.65ppm、产量速率为74.8μmol/g·h。在CO2流量为24.7mL/min进行不同Zn2GeO4用量进行反应,甲烷产量是随着光催化剂的用量加而增加,Zn2GeO4光催化剂用量为0.05g得到最高甲烷产量为7.3ppm,Zn2GeO4光催化剂用量0.5g得到最高甲烷产量为69.75ppm。(4)对于Zn2GeO4光催化剂改性研究,本文是以掺杂La2O3、石墨烯、Fe304制备出新型改性的Zn2GeO4光催化剂,以光催化水蒸汽还原二氧化碳所合成出的甲烷产率对改性的Zn2GeO4光催化剂的光催化性能评价。其光催化性能研究发现掺杂45wt%La2O3/Zn2GeO4可提高Zn2GeO4光催化性能。

Cloud-enabled e-Governance Framework for Citizen Centric Services

In the modern arena, the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been playing a vital role in every walks of our day to day life. In order to enhance the ICT capacity and align with the global technology transformations, the developing countries have started introducing the computerization and automation processes at different levels of the governments. The several research studies revealed that the existing legacy of governance system and their services in current state have several issues and challenges in terms of timeliness, cost of services, delay in service delivery, time-bound availability of services (24/7/365), inefficiency services, ease of service and discomforts, poor service collaboration, absence of responsiveness, and limited security of sensitive information/documents. A significant question is still unanswered that how to bring the Citizens and Government bodies closer for alleviating the aforementioned issues and challenges of existing government system services. This research paper aims to investigate the issues and challenges in the current status of Governance and partial e-Governance systems which encompass the computerization or automation process. The research designs a cloud framework for effective delivery of citizen centric services in general and ethiopia as a specific case study. After rigorous analysis of prior research efforts, along with primary survey and interview, it was clearly observed that cloud computing can be an alternative instrumental for significant transformation of governmental service delivery. The research paper used a mix of exploratory and constructive research design and methodology with qualitative & quantitative data analysis approach. Finally, a Cloud Based e-Governance (CBeG) Framework is designed for the delivery of ethiopian Citizen Centric Services.
