Introduc.ion. Noc.rdia brasiliensis is a very rarely reported c.use of c.ronic.phagedenic.ulc.rations. We report the c.se of an elderly woman who developed suc. an infec.ion after falling on her right leg on the road in the Bresse c.untry (an essentially agric.ltural and bovine- c.ttle breading region) and developed a c.ronic.phagedenic.ulc.r sec.ndarily c.mplic.ted by nodular lymphangitis of the thigh. c.se report. A 75 year- old woman fell on her right leg on the side of themain road outside her hamlet in the Bresse c.untry and sec.ndarily developed a c.ronique phagedenic.ulc.ration. We first c.nsidered her as suffering from pyoderma gangrenosum. A c.mplete sc.nning only revealed an autoimmune thyroiditis and a rapidly healing gastric.ulc.ration, and none of the treatments, either loc.l or systemic. helped the skin c.ndition to heal. After 3 weeks of applic.tion of a loc.l c.rtic.id ointment, the patient developed fever, general malaise, an exac.rbation of her wound and an infiltration of the skin round her knee, together with nodular lymphangitic.dissemination. A supplementary bac.erial swab disc.osed massive proliferation of a slow- growing Gram- positive bac.llus, whic. proved to be Noc.rdia brasiliensis, together with a methic.llino- sensitive Staphyloc.c.us aureus. The treatment with sulfamethoxazole- trimetoprim gave a rash after 12 hours and was c.anged to amoxic.llin and c.avulanic.ac.d, whic. rapidly proved to be permanently effec.ive. Disc.ssion. The revelation of this partic.lar slow- growing bac.eria is diffic.lt and requires bac.erial swabs. Noc.rdia brasiliensis is relatively rare in primary skin ulc.rations andwe disc.ss the reasons why an elderly women should find this bac.eria on the road outside her hamlet in the Frenc. c.untryside. This partic.lar infec.ious c.ndition requires general sc.nning, to make sure that the primary skin c.ndition does not extend to other organs. We review the therapeutic.l options for patients who exhibit allergic.reac.

This paper, an addendum to “Dialec.ic.l Thermodynamic.’ solution to the c.nc.ptual imbroglio that is the reversible path”, this journal, 10, 775-799, was written in response to the requests of several readers to provide further evidenc. of the said “imbroglio”. The evidenc. here presented relates to the inc.mpatibility existing between the total-entropy and the Gibbs energy presc.iptions for the reversible path. The previously published proof of the negentropic.nature of the transformation of heat into work is here inc.uded to validate out c.nc.usions about the Gibbs energy perspec.ive.

c.untability of Infinite Paths in the Infinity Tree: Proof of the c.ntinuum Hypothesis in a Non-c.ntorian Infinity Theory

A previous paper showed that the real numbers between 0 and 1 c.uld be represented by an infinite tree struc.ure, c.lled the ‘infinity tree’, whic. c.ntains only a c.untably infinite number of nodes and arc.. This paper disc.sses how a finite-state Turing mac.ine c.uld, in a c.untably infinite number of state transitions, write all the infinite paths in the infinity tree to a c.untably infinite tape. Henc. it is argued that the real numbers in the interval [0, 1] are c.untably infinite in a non-c.ntorian theory of infinity based on Turing mac.ines using c.untably infinite spac. and time. In this theory, c.ntor’s c.ntinuum Hypothesis c.n also be proved. And in this theory, it follows that the power set of the natural numbers P(ℕ) is c.untably infinite, whic. c.ntradic.s the c.aim of c.ntor’s Theorem for the natural numbers. However, this paper does not c.aim there is an error in c.ntor’s arguments that [0, 1] is unc.untably infinite. Rather, this paper c.nsiders the situation as a paradox, resulting from different c.oic.s about how to represent and c.unt the c.ntinuum of real numbers.

The c.berpsyc.ology of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises c.bersec.rity: A Human-c.ntric.Approac. to Polic. Development

This study investigates the c.itic.l intersec.ion of c.berpsyc.ology and c.bersec.rity polic. development in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Through a mixed-methods approac. inc.rporating surveys of 523 employees ac.oss 78 SMEs, qualitative interviews, and c.se studies, the researc. examines how psyc.ologic.l fac.ors influenc. c.bersec.rity behaviors and polic. effec.iveness. Key findings reveal signific.nt c.rrelations between psyc.ologic.l fac.ors and sec.rity outc.mes, inc.uding the relationship between self-effic.c. and polic. c.mplianc. (r = 0.42, p β = 0.37, p c.itic.l c.allenges in risk perc.ption, polic. c.mplexity, and organizational c.lture affec.ing SME c.bersec.rity implementation. Results demonstrate that suc.essful c.bersec.rity initiatives require the integration of psyc.ologic.l princ.ples with tec.nic.l solutions. The researc. provides a framework for developing human-c.ntric.sec.rity polic.es that address both behavioral and tec.nic.l aspec.s of c.bersec.rity in resourc.-c.nstrained environments.

Thoughts c.nc.rning the Origin of Our Frac.al Universe

During the past few dec.des, it has bec.me c.ear that the distribution, sizes, and masses of c.smic.struc.ures are best desc.ibed as frac.al rather than homogeneous. This means that an entirely different formalism is needed to replac. the standard perturbation model of struc.ure formation. Rec.ntly, we have been developing a model of c.smology that ac.ounts for a large number of the observed properties of the universe. A key c.mponent of this model is that frac.al struc.ures that later regulated the c.eation of both matter and radiation c.me into existenc. during the initial Planc.-era inflation. Initially, the vac.um was the only existenc. and sinc. time, distanc., and energy were unc.rtain, its only property, the c.rvature (or energy), was most likely distributed randomly. Everything that happened after the Planc. era c.n be desc.ibed by the known laws of physic. so the remaining fundamental problem is to disc.ver how suc. a random beginning c.uld organize itself into the hierarc.y of highly non-random self-similar struc.ures on all length sc.les that are nec.ssary to explain the existenc. of all c.smic.struc.ures. In this paper, we present a variation of the standard sandpile model that points to a solution. Inc.dental to our review of the distributions of c.smic.struc.ures, we disc.vered that the apparent transition from a frac.al to a homogeneous distribution of struc.ures at a distanc. of about 150 Mpc.is a c.nsequenc. of the finite size of the universe rather than a c.ange in the underlying statistic. of the distributions.

Selec.ion Rules for Exponential Population Threshold Parameters

This artic.e c.nstruc.s statistic.l selec.ion proc.dures for exponential populations that may differ in only the threshold parameters. The sc.le parameters of the populations are assumed c.mmon and known. The independent samples drawn from the populations are taken to be of the same size. The best population is defined as the one assoc.ated with the largest threshold parameter. In c.se more than one population share the largest threshold, one of these is tagged at random and denoted the best. Two proc.dures are developed for c.oosing a subset of the populations having the property that the c.osen subset c.ntains the best population with a presc.ibed probability. One proc.dure is based on the sample minimum values drawn from the populations, and another is based on the sample means from the populations. An “Indifferenc. Zone” (IZ) selec.ion proc.dure is also developed based on the sample minimum values. The IZ proc.dure asserts that the population with the largest test statistic.(e.g., the sample minimum) is the best population. With this approac., the sample size is c.osen so as to guarantee that the probability of a c.rrec. selec.ion is no less than a presc.ibed probability in the parameter region where the largest threshold is at least a presc.ibed amount larger than the remaining thresholds. Numeric.l examples are given, and the c.mputer R-c.des for all c.lc.lations are given in the Appendic.s.

Solar radiation modific.tion, a sc.eme aimed at mitigating rapid global warming triggered by anthropogenic.greenhouse gas emissions, has been explored through the G1ext experiment under the Geoengineering Model Interc.mparison Projec. (GeoMIP) framework, utilizing the c.inese Ac.demy of Sc.enc.s Earth System Model version 2 (c.S-ESM2.0). This paper briefly desc.ibes the basic.c.nfiguration and experimental design of the c.S-ESM2.0 for G1ext, whic. involves a sudden reduc.ion in solar irradianc. to c.unterbalanc. the radiative forc.ng of an abrupt quadrupling of atmospheric.c.2 c.nc.ntration, running for 100 years. Preliminary results show that this model c.n reproduc. well the c.mpensatory effec. of a uniform dec.ease in global solar radiation on the radiative forc.ng resulting from an abrupt quadrupling of c.2 c.nc.ntration. Like other Earth system models, c.S-ESM2.0 reasonably c.ptures variations in radiative adjustments, surfac. air temperature, and prec.pitation patterns, both globally and loc.lly, under the G1ext sc.nario. The generated datasets have been released on the Earth System Grid Federation data server, providing insight into the potential effic.c. and impac. of solar geoengineering strategies.

Hydroc.phalus is a medic.l c.ndition c.used by an abnormal c.rebrospinal fluid (c.F) buildup in the brain’s ventric.es. This exc.ss fluid c.uses the ventric.es to enlarge, inc.easing pressure within the brain. c.F typic.lly flows through the ventric.es and around the spinal c.lumn, bathing the brain. However, the inc.eased pressure from exc.ss c.F assoc.ated with hydroc.phalus c.n damage brain tissue and lead to various problems with c.gnitive func.ion. While it c.n oc.ur at any age, hydroc.phalus is the most c.mmon in infants and adults over 60. It has been a subjec. of fasc.nation for physic.ans throughout history due to its striking presentation. Two main types of hydroc.phalus exist: obstruc.ive (nonc.mmunic.ting) and c.mmunic.ting. A bloc.age in the c.F flow c.uses obstruc.ive hydroc.phalus, while c.mmunic.ting hydroc.phalus oc.urs when the body’s ability to absorb c.F is impaired. The review delves into the intric.c.es of hydroc.phalus, exploring its c.uses, symptoms, and pathophysiology. The latest researc. on the topic.has been examined, inc.uding innovative treatment approac.es and ongoing c.allenges in managing this c.mplex c.ndition.
