Quantification of ventilation enhancement using the Eye CAN roof support

Convergence of roof and floor in underground mine openings is a common occurrence. This convergence not only adversely affects the ability of workers, equipment and supplies to travel through the mine, it also reduces the effectiveness of the mine ventilation system, which is essential for the dilution of methane gas and airborne respirable dust. While installing secondary standing supports to control floor and roof convergence, such supports, by nature, partially obstruct a portion of the airway. These added obstructions inhibit the ability of the ventilation system to operate as efficiently as it could by increasing the resistance in and reducing the cross-sectional area of the airway. This study introduces and demonstrates the benefits of The Eye CAN^(TM) standing roof support, which controls floor and roof convergence and is less obstructive to air flow than conventional wooden cribs. Laboratory findings show that the normal resistance of a supported lined airway is reduced by using this new product from Burrell Mining Products, Inc., while providing the same roof support characteristics of an established product—The CANò. Load vs. displacement curves generated from laboratory tests demonstrated that this new product behaves with the same roof support characteristics as others in The CAN product family. Ventilation data gathered from a simulated mine entry was then used for computational fluid dynamics(CfD) modeling.The CfD analysis showed an improvement with The Eye CAN vs. other accepted forms of standing roof support. This proof-of-concept study suggests that, when using this new product made by Burrell Mining Products, Inc., not only will the convergence from the roof and floor be controlled, but airway resistance will also be reduced.

本研究旨在设计、建造和测试一个中试规模的浮动模块化处理系统,并用以对美国佛罗里达州中部富营养化湖泊中的总磷(TP)进行去除。该处理系统由生物和物理-化学处理模块组成。用多种底物和水生大型植物组合构建了13种不同的中宇宙实验(mesocosm),分别测试了总磷(TP)和正磷(PO_4^(3-))的去除率及潜在的区域去除率。此外本研究对7种吸附介质进行了小型杯罐实验和柱实验,并对3种商业树脂进行了吸附能力的测试。完成这些独立的测试过程后,在佛罗里达中部的一个湖泊中,设计了一个浮岛处理系统(fITS)并运行了8个月。中宇宙实验对磷的平均去除率为40%～50%,平均去除量为5.0 g·m^(–2)·a^(–1)。其中沉水植物(SAV)系统和藻类洗涤器(AGS)效果最好,分别去除了20 mg·m^(–2)·d^(–1)和50 mg·m^(–2)·d^(–1)的磷,它们对磷的平均去除量分别为5.5 g·m^(–2)·a^(–1)和12.0 g·m^(–2)·a^(–1)。在吸附介质中,明矾渣(AR)的性能最佳,接触5 min后,PO_4^(3-)浓度降低了75%左右。在所测试的商品树脂中,PhosX树脂的去除效果最好,在30 min后去除了约40%的磷,60 min后去除了约60%的磷。在基线运行条件下展开实验,fITS对PO_4^(3-)的平均去除率为53%;使用PO_4^(3-)去除率的第50百分位和第90百分位以及fITS的环境足迹进行评价,结果表明系统的去除率分别为56%和86%;区域磷去除率在8.9～16.5 g·m^(–2)·a^(–1)之间。

Experimental investigation on local shear stress and turbulence intensities over a rough non-uniform bed with and without sediment using 2D particle image velocimetry

The current work focuses on locally resolving velocities,turbulence,and shear stresses over a rough bed with locally non-uniform character.A nonporous subsurface layer and fixed interfacial sublayer of gravel and sand were water-worked to a nature-like bed form and additionally sealed in a hydraulic flume.Two-dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry(2 D-PIV) was applied in the vertical plane of the experimental flume axis.Runs with clear water and weak sediment transport were done under slightly supercritical flow to ensure sediment transport conditions without formation of considerable sediment deposits or dunes.The study design included analyzing the double-averaged flow parameters of the entire measurement domain and investigating the flow development at 14 consecutive vertical subsections.Local geometrical variabilities as well the presence of sediment were mainly reflected in the vertical velocity component.Whereas the vertical velocity decreased over the entire depth in presence of sediment transport,the streamwise velocity profile was reduced only within the interfacial sublayer.In the region with decelerating flow conditions,however,the streamwise velocity profile systematically increased along the entire depth extent.The increase in the main velocity(reduction of flow resistance)correlated with a decrease of the turbulent shear and main normal stresses.Therefore,effects of rough bed smoothening and drag force reduction were experimentally documented within the interfacial sublayer due to mobile sediment.Moreover,the current study leads to the conclusion that in nonuniform flows the maximum Reynolds stress values are a better predictor for the bed shear stress than the linearly extrapolated Reynolds stress profile.This is an important finding because,in natural flows,uniform conditions are rare.

研究实验性氟中毒时大脑各类磷脂含量和脂肪酸组成的变化，探讨氟病时神经系统受损害的发生机制。方法用Ｗｉｓｔａｒ大鼠复制不同程度病理损害的慢性氟中毒模型，用高效液相色谱方法测定各类生物膜性磷脂含量，用气相色谱方法测定各类磷脂脂肪酸构成。结果成功地复制出不同程度氟损害的动物模型；慢性氟中毒大剂量加氟组大鼠脑组织总磷脂含量降低，受影响的磷脂类型是磷脂酰乙醇胺、磷脂酰胆碱和磷脂酰丝氨酸，但各类磷脂脂肪酸构成未发现明显异常。结论摄入过多的氟可蓄积于脑组织中，并干扰大脑的脂质代谢，磷脂含量降低可能与神经细胞亚微结构的变性有关。大脑生物膜性磷脂含量的改变可能是慢性氟中毒时脑损害的机制之一。
