Thermal performance of a single U-tube ground heat exchanger:A parametric study

In this research,the thermal performance of a single U-tube vertical ground heat exchanger is evaluated numerically as a function of the most influential flow parameters,namely,the soil porosity,volumetric heat capacity,and thermal conductivity of the backfill material,inlet volume flow rate,and inlet fluid *** results are discussed in terms of the variations of the heat exchange rate,the effective thermal resistance,and the effectiveness of the ground heat *** show that the inlet volume flow rate,inlet fluid temperature,and backfill material thermal conductivity have significant effects on the thermal performance of the ground heat exchanger,such that by decreasing the inlet volume flow rate and increasing the backfill material thermal conductivity and inlet fluid temperature,the outlet fluid temperature decreases *** the contrary,the soil porosity and backfill material volumetric heat capacity have negligible effects on the studied ground heat exchanger’s thermal *** lowest inlet fluid temperature reaches a the maximum effective thermal resistance of borehole and soil,and consequently the minimum heat transfer rate and ***,multilinear regression analyses are performed to determine the most feasible models able to predict the thermal properties of the single U-tube ground heat exchanger.

Phlebotomus papatasi and Meriones libycus as the vector and reservoir host of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Qomrood District,Qom Province,central Iran

Objective:To determine the sand flies species responsible for most transmission of Leishmania major(L major) to human,as well as to determine the main reservoir hosts of the disease. Methods:Sand flies were collected using sticky papers and mounted in Puri’s medium for species *** were trapped by live Sherman *** sand flies and rodents were subjected to molecular methods for detection of leishmanial ***:Phlebotomus papatasi(***) was the common species in outdoor and indoor resting *** PCR technique only three specimens of 150 ***(2%) were found naturally infected by parasites with a band of 350 bp which is equal to the L major *** six rodents were captured by Sherman traps and *** investigation on blood smear of the animals for amastigote parasites revealed 1(3.22%) infected Meriones libycus(***). Infection of this animal to *** was confirmed by PCR against rDNA loci of the parasite. Conclusions:This is the first molecular report of parasite infection of both vector(***) and reservoir(***) to L major in the *** results indicated that *** was the primary vector of the disease and circulating the parasite between human and reservoirs and M. libycus was the most important host reservoir for maintenance of the parasite source in the area.

Real-world outcomes of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy for retinal vascular vein occlusion in Tibet,China

AIM: To evaluate the outcomes of intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF) agents for patients with retinal vein occlusion(RVO) related-macular edema(ME) in ***: A retrospective, observational, single-center study. The demographic and clinical data of 90 RVO Tibetan patients(93 eyes) treated with either ranibizumab or conbercept in Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Hospital from Jan 2018 to December 2019 were ***: The mean patient age was 56.8±10.6y, 45(50%) of them were female. The mean living altitude was 3867.8±567.9 m. At the last visit, the best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) significantly increased(52.2±21.8 letters) in comparison with the baseline(38.2±24.1 letters, P<0.001);while the central retinal thickness(CRT) significantly reduced(245.5±147.6 μm) in comparison with the baseline(504.1±165.2 μm, P<0.001). The 43.0% of the eyes gained≥15 letters, 60.2% of the eyes gained ≥10 letters, and 78.5% of the eyes gained ≥5 letters. No vision loss was noted in 92.5% of the eyes, 4 eyes lost more than 10 letters during follow-up period. The mean number of injections was 2.4±1.8. No severe ocular or systemic adverse events related to either the drug or injection were ***: Anti-VEGF therapy is effective and safe in Tibetan patients for the treatment of RVO related ME.

The basic problem in teaching mechanics of materials is that some subjects discussed in the reference books are not easy to understand for most of the students. Using experience of many years teaching mechanics of materials, we have been continuously trying to find easier methods to help the students get a better understanding of fundamental concepts. This effort and investigation has led to innovative and simple approaches to prove the equations much easier than the existing ones and also to clarify complicated concept. In this paper, we are offering our innovative proof for elastic flexure formulas as well as an interesting model for the moment sign convention in the cross section of a beam. In this method, considering a portion of a beam under pure bending and obtaining the stress distribution in the cross section and applying the balance of the considered portion, we prove the Elastic Flexure Formulas much easier than the existing methods. Emphasizing on deeper understanding, some notes and a new model are offered during this proof.

Delayed and short course of rapamycin prevents organ rejection after allogeneic liver transplantation in rats

AIMTo test whether a delayed and short course of rapamycin would induce immunosuppressive effects following allogeneic orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) in *** OLTs were performed using Dark Agouti livers transplanted into Lewis recipients, and syngeneic OLTs were performed using the Lewis rat strain. Rapamycin (1 mg/kg per day) was administered by gavage from day 4 to day 11 post-transplantation. Lymphocyte cellular compartments were analyzed by flow cytometry in draining lymph nodes, non-draining lymph nodes and the spleen at days 11 and 42 in rapamycin-treated rats, untreated control rats and syngeneic grafted rats. Skin grafts from Dark agouti or from F344 RT were performed at day 30 on liver grafted rats treated with *** 8-d course of rapamycin treatment initiated 4 d following transplantation resulted in the survival of grafted rats for more than 100 d. In contrast, untreated rats died of liver failure within 13 to 21 d. The analysis of the cellular compartment revealed an increase in two cellular subpopulations, specifically myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and CD8+CD45RClow T cells, without major modifications in the regulatory T cell (Treg) compartment in treated rats in the early stages after grafting. We evaluated the ability of treated rats to reject third-party allogeneic skin grafts to confirm their immune competence. In contrast, when skin was collected from rats syngeneic to the grafted liver, it was not *** results demonstrate that short and delayed rapamycin treatment allows for tolerance in allogeneic OLT. The results also allowed for the identification of the mechanisms of tolerance induced by rapamycin by identifying MDSCs and CD8+CD45RClow T cells as associated with the state of tolerance.

Stone mastic asphalt(SMA)has not been widely used in the pavement industry,and there are no detailed design specifications for this type of ***,long-term behavior properties of this pavement type are not accessible widely,and no model has been established for SMA regarding its *** main purpose of this study was to incorporate expert experience(using the Markov-chain process)and data from field experiments to propose a model for SMA performance using the Bayesian *** implementation of these sources resulted in a well-organized method to develop a performance model for SMA pavements,which did not have a long-term ***,a linear performance model was established to calculate the SMA service *** service life of SMA can be predicted explicitly according to the developed performance model which has been validated using a new set of data.

Emotions States Recognition Based on Physiological Parameters by Employing of Fuzzy-Adaptive Resonance Theory

This paper is an investigation on negative emotions states recognition by employing of Fuzzy Adaptive Resonance Theory (Fuzzy-ART) considering the changes in activities of autonomic nervous system (ANS). Specific psychological experiments were designed to induce appropriate physiological responses on individuals in order to acquire a suitable database for training, validating and testing the proposed procedure. In this research, the three physiological applied signals are Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), Heart Rate (HR) and Respiration Rate (RR). The first experiment which is named Shock was designed to determine a criterion for the change of physiological signals of each individual. In the second one, a combination of two sets of questions has been asked from the subjects to induce their emotions. Finally, Physiological responses were analyzed by Fuzzy-ART to recognize which question excites the negative emotions. Detecting negative emotions from neutral is obtained with total accuracy of 94%.

Application of Bayesian Approach in the Parameter Estimation of Continuous Lumping Kinetic Model of Hydrocracking Process

Hydrocracking is a catalytic reaction process in the petroleum refineries for converting the higher boiling temperature residue of crude oil into a lighter fraction of hydrocarbons such as gasoline and diesel. In this study, a modified continuous lumping kinetic approach is applied to model the hydro-cracking of vacuum gas oil. The model is modified to take into consideration the reactor temperature on the reaction yield distribution. The model is calibrated by maximizing the likelihood function between the modeled and measured data at four different reactor temperatures. Bayesian approach parameter estimation is also applied to obtain the confidence interval of model parameters by considering the uncertainty associated with the measured errors and the model structural errors. Then Monte Carlo simulation is applied to the posterior range of the model parameters to obtain the 95% confidence interval of the model outputs for each individual fraction of the hydrocracking products. A good agreement is observed between the output of the calibrated model and the measured data points. The Bayesian approach based on the Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation is shown to be efficient to quantify the uncertainty associated with the parameter values of the continuous lumping model.
