E24 prof.le slope stability analysis in Haizhou Opencast Coal Mine of.f.xin

The E24 prof.le slope analyzed belongs to a series of.excavated slopes of.the Haizhou Opencast Coal Mine. It seems to be divided into Downslope Part and Upslope Part. Its prof.le comprises two noticeable coal seams, called the 8# and 9# weak layers, considered as the potential f.ilure surf.ces. In consideration of.the actual conf.guration as in the perspective of.any modif.cation, assessing the stability of.this slope with various prof.le f.rms under given conditions, and assessing the risk of.instability and quantif.ing the inf.uence of.earthworks or other modif.cations to the stability of.this slope, have constituted the primordial objectives carried out. f.om assumed potential f.ilure surf.ces, any specif.c prof.les and specif.ed slip surf.ces are def.ned. A f.ctor of.saf.ty (f.S) is computed f.r each specif.ed slip surf.ce; the smallest f.S f.und corresponds to the least f.vorable slip surf.ce. The saf.ty f.ctor values obtained are compared to the suggested saf.ty f.ctor. Limit equilibrium methods of.vertical slices implemented in Slope/W, computer program f.r slope stability analyses, have been adopted to perf.rm the E24 slope stability analysis. The saf.ty f.ctor values computed with 9# weak layer are lower than f.r 8#; the f.ctors of.saf.ty obtained with Sarma's method are the smallest; more, without groundwater (long term) overall values are greater than those determined under groundwater condition (short term). The lowest saf.ty f.ctor value is f.und f.r a prof.le depending on an adopted earthwork sequence. The E24 prof.le slope stability analysis shows the instability risk f.r the deepest weak layer, and also shows the short and long term stability of.this slope f.r the envisaged earth movements. However it demonstrates the existence of.instability risk f.r any earthwork f.rstly af.ecting the downslope part.

Introduction: Human rabies is a major public health problem in many Af.ican countries, including Côte d’Ivoire. The present work aims at describing the eco-epidemiological characteristics of.human rabies cases recorded in Côte d’Ivoire. Methods: This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional descriptive study based on epidemiological surveillance data that ran f.om september 2014 to december 2017. The clinical data were extracted f.om the database of.the human rabies epidemiological surveillance management service of.the National Institute of.Public Hygiene’s rabies centre. These data cover the period f.om 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2017. Results: Human rabies is endemic in Côte d’Ivoire, with most people exposed in the south and especially in the west of.the country. There was no association between any of.the climatological parameters (temperature, humidity, rainf.ll) and the occurrence of.human rabies during the months of.exposure to rabies inf.ction. Conclusion: Ultimately, ef.ective prevention and control of.human rabies requires a thorough understanding of.the links between climatological parameters and rabies. Health authorities must take ownership of.these results if.we are to achieve our goal of.eliminating rabies by 2030.

Proximate Composition, Mineral and Vitamin Content of.Some Wild Plants Used as Spices in Cameroon

The aim of.this work was to contribute to our knowledge of.the proximate composition, mineral and vitamin content of.20 edible wild plants used as spices in Cameroon. The plant species were collected f.om 3 dif.erent markets in the West Region of.Cameroon and analysed f.r their content of.crude proteins, and lipid, ash, moisture, available sugars, total phenols, carotenoids, minerals (Ca, Zn, K, Na, Mg, Al, Mn, Cu and Se), and vitamins (A, E and C) as well as f.r their pH and colour. Results revealed that all the plants were low in moisture (7.7 to 10.5 g/100 g) but high in ash content (7.7 to 10.5 g/100 g). Hua gabonii (bark) (1594.5 mg/100 g) was relative source of.calcium, Echinops giganteus (206.4 mg/100 g) exhibited the highest level of.iron and Scorodophleus zenkeri (310.0 μg/100 g) the highest level of.selenium. Generally all the plants were f.und to contain low levels of.Zn, Cu and Mg. Wide variations were observed f.r the pro- teins and available sugars among the samples. The lipid content of.some of.the plants were surprisingly relatively high as was the case with Monodora myristica (53.4 g/100 g), Xylopia aethiopica (33.7 g/100 g), f.gara leprieuri (32.1 g/100 g), and Af.amomum daniellii (23.1 g/100 g). All the plants were rich in phenols, carotenoids, vitamin E and C. They are dark in colour and in solution they tended to provoke a f.ir acidif.cation.

Objective:To assess the seasonality of.the bacterial meningitis and the antibiotic resistance of.incriminated bacteria over the last three years in the northern ***:f.om January 2007 to January 2010,533 cerebrospinal f.uids(CSf. samples were collected f.om patients suspected of.meningitis in the Regional Hospital of.Dapaong(northern Togo).Af.er microscopic examination,samples were cultured f.r bacterial identif.cation and antibiotic susceptibility. Results:The study included 533 patients(306 male and 227 f.male) aged f.om 1 day to 55 years [average age(13.00±2.07) years].Bacterial isolation and identif.cation were attempted f.r 254/533 (47.65%) *** bacteria]species identif.ed were:Neisseria meningitidis A(*** A)(58.27%),Neisseria meningitidis W135(N,meningitidis W135)(7.09%),Streptococcus pneumoniae(***)(26.77%),Haemophilus inf.uenza B(*** B)(6.30%) and Enterobacteriaceae(1.57%).The results indicated that bacterial meningitis occur f.om November to May with a peak in f.bruary f.r *** and *** and March f.r Neisseriaceae. Epidemiological f.cies of.Human Rabies Deaths in Côte d’Ivoire f.om 2016 to 2022

Introduction: Rabies is a highly f.tal viral disease outside the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Data f.om previous studies and reports f.om the rabies center show that cases of.death f.om human rabies are regularly reported, despite training measures f.r health workers, awareness-raising and communities, and the availability of.vaccines. Objectives: The aim of.this study was to analyse the determinants of.human rabies deaths in Côte d’Ivoire f.om 2016 to 2022. Method: A retrospective cross-sectional qualitative study was carried out f.om January to August 2023 on all the records of.patients who died of.human rabies at the Treichville Rabies Center f.om 2016 to 2022. An analysis of.the rabies center’s annual activity reports f.om 2016 to 2022 was also carried out in order to complete the inf.rmation gathered f.om the f.les. Results: The socio-demographic characteristics showed that out of.148 deaths, children accounted f.r 47.97% (71) and 66.22% (98) of.rabies deaths were male, with an M/f.sex ratio of.1.96. In terms of.clinical characteristics, in 97.30% (144) of.cases, the deceased had presented with f.rious rabies, and analysis by the Pasteur Institute of.Côte d’Ivoire laboratory conf.rmed 101 cases (92.66%) of.human rabies. Geographical distribution showed that cases of.human rabies were recorded in 56 health district, and 64% (94) of.the deceased lived in rural areas. The main causes of.the occurrence of.rabies were essentially non-use of.post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and missed vaccination due to ignorance. Conclusion: In view of.these results, control strategies and interventions need to be adapted to the epidemiological characteristics of.the disease, using a community-based approach with a view to eliminating dog-transmitted rabies by 2030.

Objective: Air pollution is becoming one of.the public concerns requiring urgent f.asible response per local context. Def.ning accurately the level of.exposure of.outdoor air pollution ef.ect on health of.venders working along main roads and roundabouts with high traf.ic is important. This study was conducted to assess respiratory health risks on venders associated with dif.erent geographical positions in Cotonou. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted along the main road with high traf.ic including three roundabouts in Cotonou. The 194 study participants f.om all shops, one respondent per shop, were given a unique GPS data associated to indicate the shop’s geographical position. The study employed validated questionnaire on respiratory symptoms. Results: Study participants had mean age of.36.26 (±11.65) years with sex ratio of.(M/f. 1.8. Majority (72.7%) of.study participates reported to have at least one respiratory symptom and 69% of.them were working in non-ventilated rooms. The proportion of.having at least one respiratory symptom was signif.cantly dif.erent (p Conclusion: Working in roundabout is associated with more respiratory symptoms than working in shops along main road. Air pollution mitigation ef.orts should f.cus in such settings, taking into account the sub-population of.workers in resource limited countries.
