Lower limb balance,ankle dorsiflexion,orofacial tissue pressure,and occlusal force of rugby players

This cross-sectional study examined the lower limb balance,ankle dorsiflexion,orofacial tissue pressure,and occlusal strength of rugby ***-six participants were divided into groups:rugby players(n=13)and healthy sedentary adults(n=13).Participants underwent an analysis of lower limb balance using a composite score(Y-Balance Test).Ankle dorsiflexion was measured using the Lunge *** Iowa Oral Performance Instrument was employed to measure orofacial tissue *** force was measured with a dynamometer,and T-Scan assessed occlusal contact *** were analyzed using the t-test(pcOVA with age and weight as covariates,where it is possible to verify that these factors did not influence the results *** differences were observed in the balance of the right(p=0.07)and left(p=0.02)lower limbs,where rugby players had lower composite *** were significant differences in the right(p=0.005)and left(p=0.004)lunges,with rugby players showing lower values,as well as lower tongue pressure(p=0.01)and higher lip pressure(p=0.03),with significant differences to sedentary *** was no significant difference in molar bite force and distribution occlusal contacts between *** seems to reduce lower limb displacement,cause ankle hypomobility,lead to changes in orofacial tissues,particularly the tongue and *** study is significant for identifying significant differences between rugby players and sedentary individuals,providing new insights into the impact of rugby on health and performance,which can benefit sports training and injury prevention.

Bite force and masticatory efficiency in individuals with different oral rehabilitations

Objective: This study was analyzed adult individuals rehabilitated with different types of dentures, with the purpose of verifying the effect that different types of denture rehabilitation have on maximal bite force and masticatory efficiency. The aim of this study is to facilitate diagnosis and prognosis, bringing contributions to the quality and stability of treatments Materials and Methods: Fifty individuals were divided into five groups: one control group with ten dentate individuals and another four groups formed according to the type of rehabilitation treatment. Maximal bite force was recorded on the first molar regions, and masticatory efficiency rates were recorded on the right, left and habitual sides. Results: Data related to the maximal bite force recordings were statistically significant across the analyzed groups [ANOVA for p ≤ 0.01]. The data related to masticatory efficiency rates also showed statistical significance across all groups [ANOVA for p ≤ 0.05] in the three tested conditions [mastication on the right, left and habitual sides]. conclusion: The group of individuals rehabilitated with implants and single crowns showed greater bite force values and masticatory efficiency rates compared to the other groups, and the treatment with implantsupported mandibular overdenture improved the function compared to conventional complete dentures, thus evincing that the stomatognathic system has different functional behaviors depending on the type of oral rehabilitation.

Photoacoustic dual-comb spectroscopy(DcS),converting spectral information in the optical frequency domain to the audio frequency domain via multi-heterodyne beating,enables background-free spectral measurements with high resolution and broad ***,the detection sensitivity remains limited due to the low power of individual comb lines and the lack of broadband acoustic ***,we develop cavity-enhanced photoacoustic DcS,which overcomes these limitations by using a high-finesse optical cavity for the power amplification of dual-frequency combs and a broadband acoustic resonator with a flat-top frequency *** demonstrate high-resolution spectroscopic measurements of trace amounts of c2h2,Nh3 and cO in the entire telecommunications *** method shows a minimum detection limit of 0.6 ppb c2h2 at the measurement time of 100 s,corresponding to the noise equivalent absorption coefficient of 7×10−10 cm−*** proposed cavityenhanced photoacoustic DcS may open new avenues for ultrasensitive,high-resolution,and multi-species gas detection with widespread applications.

Background Pediatric post coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)condition(PPcc)is a heterogeneous syndrome,which can significantly affect the daily lives of *** study aimed to identify clinically meaningful phenotypes in children with PPcc,to better characterize and treat this *** Participants were children with physician-diagnosed PPcc,referred to the academic hospital Amsterdam UMc in the Netherlands between November 2021 and March *** factors and information on post-cOVID symptoms,comorbidities,and impact on daily life were *** clusters were identified using an unsupervised and unbiased approach for mixed data *** Analysis of 111 patients(aged 3–18 years)revealed three distinct clusters within *** 1(n=62,median age=15 years)predominantly consisted of girls(74.2%).These patients suffered relatively more from exercise intolerance,dyspnea,and smell *** 2(n=33,median age=13 years)contained patients with an even gender distribution(51.5%girls).They suffered from relatively more sleep problems,memory loss,gastrointestinal symptoms,and *** 3(n=16,median age=11 years)had a higher proportion of boys(75.0%),suffered relatively more from fever,had significantly fewer symptoms(median of 5 symptoms compared to 8 and 10 for clusters 1 and 2 respectively),and experienced a lower impact on daily *** This study identified three distinct clinical PPcc phenotypes,with variations in sex,age,symptom patterns,and impact on daily *** findings highlight the need for further research to understand the potentially diverse underlying mechanisms contributing to post-cOVID symptoms in children.

OBJEcTIVE:To evaluate the sternocleidomastoid and the descending portion of the trapezius muscles in terms of electromyographic activity and pressure pain threshold in women with chronic cervical pain after acupuncture ***:Twenty-five women,aged 18-50 years[(31±3)years],with chronic neck and temporomandibular disorder participated in the *** electromyographic activity of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the descending portion of the trapezius muscle were recorded at rest,during shoulder elevation,(left and right)rotation of the neck and crucifix *** voluntary contraction was used to normalize the electromyographic activity *** points used for acupuncture were Jiache(ST 6),Xiaguan(ST 7),Quanliao(SI 18),Tinggong(SI 19),Yifeng(TE-17),Fengchi(GB 20),Renzhong(GV 26),Yangbai(GB-14),and points of the lower and upper limbs:Tai chong(LV 3),Zusanli(ST 36),Sanyinjiao(SP 6),Kunlun(BL 60),he Gu(LI4)and Yanglingquan(GB 34).The treatment course was 10 sessions,30 min long per session,and twice a *** final electromyographic activity and pressure pain threshold data collection were performed 15 d after treatment ***:The normalized electromyographic activity and pressure pain threshold data were tabulated and submitted to statistical analysis using t-test(Pcant difference was observed during shoulder elevation for the left trapezius muscle,during neck rotation from the right side to the left,and pressure pain threshold for the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles,bilaterally,after the acupuncture ***:The acupuncture treatment improved the neck muscles in terms of electromyographic activity and increased the tolerance to chronic pain in women.

Photoluminescence of cdSe Nanowires Grown With and Without Metal catalyst

We present temperature and power dependent photoluminescence measurements on cdSe nanowires synthesized via vapor-phase with and without the use of a metal catalyst. Nanowires produced without a catalyst can be optimized to yield higher quantum efficiency, and narrower and spatially uniform emission, when compared to the catalyst-assisted ones. Emission at energies lower than the band-edge is also found in both cases. By combining spatially-resolved photoluminescence and electron microscopy on the same nanowires, we show that catalyst-free nanowires exhibit a low-energy peak with sharp phonon replica, whereas for catalyst-assisted nanowires low-energy emission is linked to the presence of nanostructures with extended morphological defects.

The prevalence of torus mandibularis, Eagle’s syndrome and parafunctional activity was reported to be higher in patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunction and might be useful as an indicator of increased risk of temporomandibular disorders. This study case report was to evaluate a 62-year-old female patient, with limited mandibular and cervical movements, articular and muscular pain, ear fullness, irritation of the lingual mucosa, discomfort associated with movement of her tongue, involving temporomandibular dysfunction, torus mandibularis and Eagle’s syndrome. The treatment comprehended the collection of data of helkimo’s clinical Dysfunction Index, electromyographic activity of the masseter and temporalis muscles in rest position and bite force, masticatory efficiency, speech evaluation and oclusal splint, after the excision of the stylohyoid process and mandibularis torus. The authors found a decrease in electromyographic activity of masticatory muscles, a reduction of painful symptoms throughout the region muscular and joint pains, an increase in the amplitude of mandibular movements, an improvement in masticatory efficiency and an increase in bite force.

First-principles search of hot superconductivity in La-X-h ternary hydrides

Motivated by the recent claim of hot superconductivity with critical temperatures up to 550 K in La + x hydrides,we investigate the high-pressure phase diagram of compounds that may have formed in the experiment,using first-principles calculations for evolutionary crystal structure prediction and *** from the hypothesis that the observed T_(c) may be realized by successive heating upon a pre-formed Lah_(10) phase,we examine plausible ternaries of lanthanum,hydrogen and other elements present in the diamond anvil cell: boron,nitrogen,carbon,platinum,gallium,*** find that only boron and,to a lesser extent,gallium form metastable superhydride-like structures that can host high-T_(c) superconductivity,but the predicted T_(c)’s are incompatible with the experimental *** results indicate that,while the claims of hot superconductivity should be reconsidered,it is very likely that unknown h-rich ternary or multinary phases containing lanthanum,hydrogen,and possibly boron or gallium may have formed under the reported experimental conditions,and that these may exhibit superconducting properties comparable,or even superior,to those of currently known hydrides.

Objective: This study was performed with the purpose a report clinical cases involving condylar position and Nóbilo’s sliding plates. Background: Patients may present temporomandibular disorder (TMD), which is characterized by pain in masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joints and limited mandible movements. Treatment involving oral rehabilitation with the use of complete dentures with Nóbilo’s sliding plates has been an alternative for the treatment of TMD. Materials and Methods: Nine patients with a history of TMD signs and symptoms (RDc/TMD)—in particular, muscular and articular pain—received pain evaluations, mandibular movement analysis, transcranial radiography and an electromyographic analysis of the masseter and temporalis muscles before and after the use of complete dentures with Nóbilo’s sliding plates. Results: After treatment, the patients had reduced painful symptoms, an increase in mandibular movement and adequate electromyographic activity. The normalized EMG data were ta-bulated and analyzed statistically using SPSS version 17.0 for Windows (SPSS Inc., chicago, IL, USA), and the values were compared by umpaired independent Student’s t-test. conclusion: The use of Nóbilo’s sliding plates promoted improvements in electromyographic activity, muscular pain and man-dibular movement.

Effect of age and different doses of dietary vitamin E on breast meat qualitative characteristics of finishing broilers

The supplementation of vitamin E on broiler chicken diets is essential to the prevention of lipid oxidation reactions in the meat and improvement of meat *** objective of this study was to assess the effect of different doses of dietary vitamin E on breast meat quality of broiler chickens in the finishing *** doses of vitamin E were used(30,90,150,210,and 270 mg/kg feed)in broilers'diets from 42 to 54 d of age.A completely randomized design was conducted,followed by a split-plot,where the vitamin E dose was considered as the whole plot,and broilers'age at slaughter was the *** meat quality was assessed at 4 different ages(45,48,51,and 54 d old),using 50 birds per age,totaling 200 *** quality characteristics evaluated were:ph at 24 h post mortem,color(brightness,redness,and yellowness),water holding capacity,cooking loss,shear force,and lipid *** was no interaction between age and dose of vitamin E for meat quality characteristics(P>0.05).The age at slaughter had a quadratic effect(Ph,brightness,redness,and water holding *** ph values were higher in the breast meat of older birds(51 and 52 d old),breast meat of younger birds(48 d)had a more reddish *** force value was higher in breast meat of birds slaughtered at later ages(Pct was *** increased linearly(Ph higher vitamin doses,whereas treatments did not alter yellowness,cooking loss,and lipid *** this study,increasing vitamin E doses in the finishing period increased the brightness of broiler breast meat,whereas slaughtering at later ages resulted in greater meat ph and shear force value.
