Introduction Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)is highly effective and potentially life-saving for recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection(CDI)[1].Recent pilot trials also reported the use of FMT to revert hepatic encephalopathy(HE)in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis without infectious colitis[2,3].Intestinal microbiota-driven hyperammonemia is central to HE development and most treatments aim to reduce ammonia levels by modulating the intestinal ***,FMT might lead to increased intestinal ammonia production,as we describe here.

Programming errors in Ethereum smart contracts can result in catastrophic financial losses from stolen *** vulnerability detectors can prevent vulnerable contracts from being deployed,this does not mean that such contracts will not be *** a vulnerable contract is instantiated on the blockchain and becomes the target of attacks,the identification of exploit transactions becomes indispensable in assessing whether it has been actually exploited and identifying which malicious or subverted accounts were *** this work,we study the problem of post-factum investigation of Ethereum attacks using Indicators of Compromise(IoC)specially crafted for use in the *** definitions need to capture the side-effects of successful exploitation in the context of the Ethereum ***,we define a model for smart contract execution,comprising multiple abstraction levels that mirror the multiple views of code execution on a ***,we compare IoCs defined across the different levels in terms of their effectiveness and practicality through EtherClue,a prototype tool for investigating Ethereum security *** results illustrate that coarse-grained IoCs defined over blocks of transactions can detect exploit transactions with less ***,they are contract-specific and suffer from false *** the other hand,fine-grained IoCs defined over virtual machine instructions can avoid these pitfalls at the expense of increased computation,which is nevertheless applicable for practical use.

There is increasing recognition of the potential morbidity and mortality associated with HIV-1 and hepatitis C (HCV) co-infection. HIV appears to adversely affect HCV disease while the reciprocal effect of HCV on HIV remains controversial. We therefore studied the effect of co-infection on dendritic cell function versus HIV infection alone, as previous work has shown that HCV impairs dendritic cell (DC) function. HIV-1 positive individuals with HCV were matched for CD4 count, HIV-1 RNA viral load and therapy, to HIV-1 positive patients without HCV. Monocyte-derived DC were generated and mixed leukocyte reactions were performed. We assessed allostimulatory capacity with and without administration of exogenous Thl cytokines, using thymidine uptake and cell division analyses with the vital dye CFSE. We found that monocyte-derived DC from co-infected individuals showed no significant differences in allostimulatory capacity to ex vivo generated DC from HIV-1 infected individuals without HCV. There has been a growing appreciation for freezing of gait as a disabling symptom that causes a significant burden in Parkinson’s disease. Previous research has highlighted some of the key components that underlie the phenomenon, but these reductionist approaches have yet to lead to a paradigm shift resulting in the development of novel treatment strategies. Addressing this issue will require greater integration of multi-modal data with complex computational modeling, but there are a number of critical aspects that need to be considered before embarking on such an approach. This paper highlights where the field needs to address current gaps and shortcomings including the standardization of definitions and measurement, phenomenology and pathophysiology, as well as considering what available data exist and how future studies should be constructed to achieve the greatest potential to better understand and treat this devastating symptom.

Although prostate epithelium concentrates zinc for the purpose of promoting citrate secretion,it loses its capacity to import zinc while undergoing malignant *** exclusion of zinc may be necessary for the viability of prostate cancer,as measures which increase the intracellular zinc content of prostate cancers lead to cell death,oxidative stress,and a marked reduction in ATP,suggestive of mitochondrial *** anti-fungal drug clioquinol,which can act as a zinc ionophore,can markedly slow the growth of human prostate cancer in nude mice,and has been proposed as a clinical therapy for prostate ***,clioquinol is currently only available as a topical agent,as it was linked to subacute myelo-optic neuropathy with oral use.A more practical option for promoting zinc transport may be offered by the nutraceutical zinc dipicolinate,a stable chelate in which four coordination positions of zinc are occupied by two molecules of the tryptophan metabolite picolinic *** dipicolinate is a highly effective supplemental source of zinc that has been shown to be more potent than soluble zinc salts for alleviating the symptoms of acrodermatitis enteropathica,a genetic zinc deficiency disorder reflecting homozygous loss of functional ZIP4 zinc importers in *** suggests that the zinc dipicolinate complex is sufficiently stable and lipophilic to transfer zinc across cellular *** so,it may have potential for“smuggling”zinc into prostate cancer ***,cell culture and rodent studies to evaluate the impact of zinc dipicolinate on human prostate cancer are warranted.

Various Drosophila models of human disease have recently received increased interest. The main goal is to uncover the fundamental biological basis for human pathology taking advantage of the power of Drosophila genetics. This review examines a set of Drosophila seizure-sensitive mutations that model human seizure disorders, especially epilepsy. Also described is a novel set of mutations that act as seizure-suppressors that ameliorate epilepsy phenotypes in double mutant combinations.

Analysis of the human Atox 1 homologue in Wilson patients

AIM: To analyze the metallochaperone antioxidant-1 (Atox1) gene sequence in Wilson disease patients. METHODS: Mutation analysis of the four exons of the Atox1 gene including the intron- exon boundaries was performed in 63 Wilson disease patients by direct sequencing. RESULTS: From 63 selected patients no mutations were identified after the entire coding region including the intron- exon boundaries of Atox1 were sequenced. One known polymorphism within the Atox1 gene (5’UTR -99 T>C) in 31 (49%) of the Wilson patients as well as one previously undescribed variation (5’UTR -68 C>T) in 2 of the Wilson patients could be detected. Statistical analyses revealed that the existence of a variation within the Atox1- gene showed a tendency towards an earlier onset of the disease. CONCLUSION: Based on the data of this study, no major role can be attributed to Atox1 in the pathophysiology or clinical variation of Wilson disease.

Background The Anxiety Symptoms Questionnaire(ASQ)is a brief self-report questionnaire which measures frequency and intensity of symptoms and was developed to improve assessment of anxiety symptoms in a clinical *** examined the reliability and validity of the ASQ in patients with anxiety disorders and/or depression,nonclinical control subjects and college *** 240 outpatients with generalised anxiety disorder,social anxiety disorder,panic disorder or major depressive disorder were administered the ASQ and additional questionnaires measuring depression and anxiety,as were 111 non-clinical control subjects and 487 college *** analysis,Pearson's correlation coefficients and logistic regression were used to assess reliability and ***-retest reliability of the ASQ was measured using a subset who were re-administered the ASQ after 4 *** Factor analysis revealed measurement of a single dimension by the *** consistency and test-retest reliability were *** ASQ total score also significantly distinguished patients with an anxiety disorder from the clinical controls above and beyond the clinicianrated Hamilton Anxiety *** The ASQ is a valid,reliable and effective self-rated measure of anxiety and may be a useful tool for screening and assessing anxiety symptoms in psychiatric as well as college settings.
