Ef.ect of.plant nutrition on aphid size, prey consumption, and lif. history characteristics of.green lacewing

Plant quality can directly and indirectly af.ect the third trophic level. The predation by all the instars of.green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea （S.）（Neuroptera： Chrysopidae） on the cereal aphids, Rhopalosiphum padi （L.）, and Sitobion avenae （f.） at varying nitrogen f.rtilizer levels was calculated under laboratory conditions. Wheat plants were grown on f.ur nitrogen f.rtilizer levels and aphids were f.d on these plants and subsequently of.ered as f.od to the C. carnea. Aphid densities of.10, 30, and 90 were of.ered to f.rst, second, and third instar larvae of.green lacewing. Increased nitrogen application improved nitrogen contents of.the plants and also the body weight of.cereal aphids f.eding on them. Aphid consumption by green lacewings was reduced with the increase in nitrogen content in the host plants of.aphids. Predation of.both aphid species by f.rst, second, and third instars larvae of.C. carnea was highest on aphids reared on plants with the lowest rate of.f.rtilization, suggesting a compensatory consumption to overcome reduced biomass （lower aphid size）. Total biomass devoured by C. carnea on all nitrogen f.rtilizer treatments was not statistically dif.erent. Additionally, the heavier host prey inf.uenced by the plant nutrition had an ef.ect on the lif. history characteristics of.green lacewings. The larval duration, pupal weight, pupal duration, f.cundity, and male and f.male longevity were signif.cantly af.ected by the level of.nitrogen f.rtilization to the aphid＇s host plants, except f.r pupal duration when f.d on S. avenae. This study showed that quantity of.prey supplied to the larvae af.ects the prey consumption and thereaf.er the lif. history characteristics of.green lacewings.

A novel hybrid process f.r surf.ce f.uorination of.polymers is being introduced. The process is based on ultra violet (UV) laser radiation, which on the one hand f.rms radicals out of.an atmosphere of.a partially f.uorinated benzene, and on the other hand activates a polymer surf.ce in the areas where the UV radiation hits the surf.ce. The radicals can react with the polymer surf.ce, hence altering the surf.ce energy. With this process, a f.uorine content of.over 30% on the surf.ce of.bulk polystyrene can be achieved, while the smallest possible structure size was smaller than 1 mm.

Garnetite pods containing >60 mol%garnet in association with garnet-bearing quartz-rich lenses are sporadically distributed in the Khondalite Belt,North China *** mineral assemblages and microtextures of.garnetite occurring in quartzo-f.ldspathic sillimanite -garnet gneiss in the Xiaoshizi area allow def.nition of.the metamorphic history of.the *** of.garnet poikiloblasts coupled with their enclosing and matrix minerals quartz,sillimanite, plagioclase,biotite,rutile and ilmenite def.nes an M assemblage consistent with partial melting and subsequent melt separation. Thermodynamic modeling of.bell-shaped Ca zoning in garnet poikiloblasts conf.rms that this occurred during decompression.A retrograde M assemblage replacing M garnet or sillimanite is def.ned by two microdomains:coronas of.Grt2 + Crd(M) where quartz is present,and Spl + Crd symplectite(M) where quartz is *** f.nal metamorphic stage led to the coronal assemblage Grt3+Opx + Crd + Pl+ Bt(M) surrounding M garnet. Comparison of.the observed mineral proportions and compositions with the predictions of.phase equilibria modeling in the MCKf.ASHTO system f.r the ef.ective bulk compositions,in combination with Zr-in-rutile thermometry,results in the f.llowing P-T conditions f.r the metamorphic events:820-850℃(up to 950℃) and 8.5-9.5kbar f.r M;850-865℃and 7.4-7.6 kbar f.r M;710-720℃and 6.4-6.6 kbar f.r M3 The clockwise P-T path thus def.ned f.r M to M evolution is interpreted to ref.ect the onset of.extension and exhumation of.the Khondalite Belt at～1890 Ma,f.llowing the emplacement of.S-type granitoids at～1920-1890 Ma and ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism at～1920 Ma that resulted f.om collision of.the f.nshan and Ordos Blocks at～1950 Ma.

Portal venous gas and thrombosis in a Chinese patient with f.lminant Crohn’s colitis: A case report with literature review

Ever since its earliest reports, portal venous gas (PVG) has been associated with numerous intraabdominal catastrophes and has served as an indication f.r urgent surgical exploration. It is traditionally regarded to be an ominous f.nding of.impending death, with highest mortality reported in patients with underlying bowel ischemia. Today, computed tomography has demonstrated a wider range of.clinical conditions associated with PVG, some of.which are ‘benign’ and do not necessarily require surgery, unless when there are signs of.intraabdominal catastrophe or systemic toxicity. One of.these ‘benign’ conditions is Crohn’s disease. The present report describes a 19-year-old Chinese boy with Crohn’s pancolitis who presented with septic shock associated with PVG and portal vein thrombosis, and was successf.lly managed surgically. To our knowledge, this is the f. rst report of.PVG and portal vein thrombosis associated with Crohn’s disease in a Chinese patient. In addition, we have also reviewed the reports of.another 18 Crohn’s patients with PVG previously described in the English literature. Specif. c predisposing f.ctors f.r PVG were identif.ed in 8 patients, including barium enema, colonoscopy, blunt abdominal trauma, and enterovenous f.istula. The patients who developed PVG f.llowing barium enema and blunt trauma were all asymptomatic and no specif. c treatment was necessary. Eleven patients (58%) who presented with signs of.intraabdominal catastrophe or systemic toxicity required either immediate or eventual surgery. The overall mortality rate among the 19 patients was only 11%. The present literature review has shown that the f.inding of.PVG associated with Crohn’ s disease does not always mandate surgical intervention. It is the clinical f.atures and the related complications that ultimately determine the treatment approaches. The overall outcome of.PVG associated with Crohn’s disease has been f.vourable.

Lipogenesis in Huh7 cells is promoted by increasing the f.uctose: Glucose molar ratio

AIM: To determine whether hepatocyte lipogenesis, in an in vitro cell culture model, is modulated by adjusting culture media monosaccharide content and ***: Hepatocytes(Huh7), demonstrating glucose and f.uctose uptake and lipid biosynthesis, were incubated in culture media containing either glucose alone(0.65-0.72 mmol/L) or isosmolar monosaccharide(0.72 mmol/L) comprising f.uctose:glucose(f.G) molar ratios ranging f.om 0.58-0.67. f.llowing a 24-h incubation, cells were harvested and analyzed f.r total protein, triglyceride(TG) and cholesterol(C) content. Signif.cant dif.erences(P f.variance f.llowed by Dunnett's test f.r multiple ***: Af.er a 24 h incubation period, Huh7 cell mass and viability among all experimental groups were not dif.erent. Hepatocytes cultured with increasing concentrations of.glucose alone did not demonstrate a signif.cant change either in C or in TG content. However, when the culture media contained increasing f.G molar ratios, at a constant total monosaccharideconcentration, synthesis both of.C and of.TG increased signif.cantly [f.G ratio = 0.58, C/protein(μg/μg) = 0.13;f.G = 0.67, C/protein = 0.18, P f.G ratio = 0.58,TG/protein(μg/μg) = 0.06; f.G ratio = 0.67, TG/protein= 0.11, P f.uctose plus glucose support total cell mass and lipogenic activity. Increasing the f.uctose:glucose molar ratio(but not glucose alone) enhances triglyceride and cholesterol synthesis. These investigations demonstrate f.uctose promotes hepatocellular lipogenesis, and they provide evidence supporting f.ture, in vivo studies of.f.uctose's role in the development of.hepatic steatosis and non-alcoholic f.tty liver disease.

Meso-Cenozoic tectonic evolution of.the Talas-f.rgana region of.the Kyrgyz Tien Shan revealed by low-temperature basement and detrital thermochronology

This study provides new low-temperature thermochronometric data, mainly apatite f.ssion track data on the basement rocks in and adjacent to the Talas-f.rgana f.ult, in the Kyrgyz Tien Shan in the f.rst *** the second place, we also present new detrital apatite f.ssion track data on the Meso-Cenozoic sediments f.om f.ult related basins and surrounding intramontane basins. Our results conf.rm multistaged Meso-Cenozoic tectonic activity, possibly induced by the accretion of.the so-called Cimmerian blocks to the Eurasian margin. New evidence f.r this multi-staged thermo-tectonic activity is f.und in the data of.both basement and Meso-Cenozoic sediment samples in or close to the Talas-f.rgana ***(U-Th)/He and apatite f.ssion track data constrain rapid Late TriassiceE arly Jurassic and Late JurassiceE arly Cretaceous basement cooling in the Kyrgyz Tien Shan around 200 Ma and 130 -100 Ma respectively. Detrital apatite f.ssion track results indicate a dif.erent burial history on both sides of.the Talas-f.rgana f.ult. The apatite f.ssion track system of.the Jurassic sediments in the Middle Tien Shan unit east of.the Talas-f.rgana f.ult is not reset, while the Jurassic sediments in the f.rgana Basin and Yarkand-f.rgana Basin, west of.the f.ult zone, are partially and in some cases even totally reset. The totally reset samples exhibit Oligocene and Miocene ages and evidence the Cenozoic reactivation of.the western Kyrgyz Tien Shan as a consequence of.the India-Eurasia convergence.

Morphological abnormalities in wild animals can be indicators of.the underlying health of.a population and may be determined through routine photographic ***,we assess unusual rostrum conditions in Indian Ocean humpback dolphins(Sousa plumbea)inhabiting South Af.ican coastal waters to understand the rate of.prevalence of.abnormal rostrums and f.rmulate hypotheses on potential *** data were collated f.om sys-tematic boat surveys and opportunistic sightings,obtained between April 1998 and March 2021 in various regions along the South Af.ican ***,31 unique individuals were f.und with abnormal rostrum conditions,vary-ing f.om slight misalignments to severe wounds and/or aberrant *** most cases,injuries were likely caused by natural events during the animal’s lif. history such as interactions with sharks and/or reef.associated hunting ***–recapture data indicated that individuals had survived with these injuries f.r up to 10 *** study reports the highest incidence of.rostrum abnormalities in the *** numbers reﬂect only those that have survived their injuries,they are considered a minimum estimate.A better understanding of.the cause(s)of.these injuries is important given the endangered status of.this species.
