A systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effect of sperm DNA damage on in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcome

Sperm DNA damage is prevalent among infertile men and is known to influence natural reproduction. however, the impact of sperm DNA damage on assisted reproduction outcomes remains controversial. here, we conducted a meta-analysis of studies on sperm DNA damage （assessed by SCSA, TUNEL, SCD, or Comet assay） and clinical pregnancy after IVF and/or ICSI treatment from MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PUBMED database searches for this analysis. We identified 41 articles （with a total of 56 studies） including 16 IVF studies, 24 ICSI studies, and 16 mixed （IVF ＋ ICSI） studies. These studies measured DNA damage （by one of four assays： 23 SCSA, 18 TUNEL, 8 SCD, and 7 Comet） and included a total of 8068 treatment cycles （3734 IVF, 2282 ICSI, and 2052 mixed IVF ＋ ICSI）. The combined OR of 1.68 （95% Ch 1.49-1.89; P 〈 0.0001） indicates that sperm DNA damage affects clinical pregnancy following IVF and/or ICSI treatment. In addition, the combined OR estimates of IVF （16 estimates, OR = 1.65; 95% CI： 1.34-2.04; P 〈 0.0001）, ICSI （24 estimates, OR = 1.31; 95% Ch 1.08-1.59; P = 0.0068）, and mixed IVF ＋ ICSI studies （16 estimates, OR = 2.37; 95% Ch 1.89-2.97; P〈 0.0001） were also statistically significant. There is sufficient evidence in the existing literature suggesting that sperm DNA damage has a negative effect on clinical pregnancy following IVF and/or ICSI treatment.

Balancing timeliness of reporting with increasing testing probability for epidemic data

Background and aims:Noninvasive predictors of choledocholithiasis have generally exhibited marginal performance *** aimed to identify noninvasive independent predictors of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)-confirmed choledocholithiasis and accordingly developed predictive machine learning models(MLMs).Methods:Clinical data of consecutive patients undergoing first-ever ERCP for suspected chol-edocholithiasis from 2015 to 2019 were abstracted from a prospectively-maintained *** logistic regression was used to identify predictors of ERCP-confirmed *** were then trained to predict ERCP-confirmed choledocholithiasis using pre-ERCP ultrasound(US)imaging only as well as using all available noninvasive imaging(US,computed tomography,and/or magnetic reso-nance cholangiopancreatography).The diagnostic performance of American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy(ASGE)“high-likelihood”criteria was compared to ***:We identified 270 patients(mean age 46 years,62.2%female,73.7%hispanic/Latino,59%with noninvasive imaging positive for choledocholithiasis)with native papilla who underwent ERCP for suspected choledocholithiasis,of whom 230(85.2%)were found to have ERCP-confirmed *** regression identified choledocholithiasis on noninvasive imaging(odds ratio(OR)¼3.045,P¼0.004)and common bile duct(CBD)diameter on noninvasive imaging(OR¼1.157,P¼0.011)as predictors of ERCP-confirmed *** the various MLMs trained,the random forest-based MLM performed best;sensitivity was 61.4%and 77.3%and specificity was 100%and 75.0%,using US-only and using all available imaging,*** high-likelihood criteria demonstrated sensitivity of 90.9%and specificity of 25.0%;using cut-points achieving this specificity,MLMs achieved sensitivity up to 97.7%.Conclusions:MLMs using age,sex,race/ethnicity,presence of diabetes,fever,body mass index(BMI),total bilirubin,maximum CBD di

Recently,multivalent aqueous calcium-ion batteries(CIBs)have attracted considerable attention as a possible alternative to Li-ion ***,traditional Ca-ion storage materials show either limited rate capabilities and poor cycle life or insufficient specific ***,we tackle these limitations by exploring materials having a large interlayer distance to achieve decent specific capacities and one-dimensional architecture with adequate Ca-ion passages that enable rapid reversible(de)intercalation *** this work,we report the high-yield,rapid,and low-cost synthesis of 1D metal oxides MV_(3)O_(8)(M=Li,K),CaV_(2)O_(6),and CaV_(6)O_(16)·7h_(2)O(CVO)via a molten salt ***,using 1D CVO as electrode materials,we show high capacity 205 mA h g^(-1),long cycle life(>97%capacity retention after 200 cycles at 3.0 C),and high-rate performance(117 mA h g^(-1) at 12 C)for Ca-ion(de)*** work represents a step forward for the development of the molten salt method to synthesize nanomaterials and to help pave the way for the future growth of Ca-ion batteries.

Designing electrocatalysts for hER in alkaline conditions to overcome the sluggish kinetics associated with the additional water dissociation step is a recognized challenge in promoting the hydrogen *** this end,delicately tuning the atomic-scale structure and surface composition of nanoparticles is a common strategy and,specifically,making use of hybrid structures,can produce synergistic effects that lead to highly active ***,we present a core-shell catalyst of Ag@MoS_(2)that shows promising results towards the hydrogen evolution reaction(hER)in both 0.5 M h_(2)SO_(4)and 0.5 M *** this hybrid structure,the MoS_(2)shell is strained and defective,and charge transfer occurs between the conductive core and the shell,contributing to the electrocatalytic *** shelling process results in a large fraction of Ag_(2)S in the cores,and adjusting the relative fractions of Ag,Ag_(2)S,and MoS_(2)leads to improved catalytic activity and fast charge-transfer *** suggest that the enhancement of alkaline hER is associated with a cooperative effect of the interfaces,where the Ag(Ⅰ)sites in Ag_(2)S drive the water dissociation step,and the formed hydrogen subsequently recombines on the defective MoS_(2)*** study demonstrates the benefits of hybrid structures as functional nanomaterials and provides a scheme to activate MoS_(2)for hER in alkaline conditions.

Differences in egg hatching time between cyclical and obligate parthenogenetic lineages of aphids

Many aphid species exhibit a variation in reproductive mode which is influenced by winter climate regimes,with cyclical parthenogenetic (CP)lines dominating in cold winter areas (because they produce cold-resistant eggs)and obligate parthenogenetic (OP) ones in mild winter regions (because of their parthenogenetic overwintering).Genetic studies on several aphid species have shown that the OP trait can be transmitted during sexual events involving the 2 types of *** genetic system could be considered as a local safeguarding mechanism for OP alleles in case severe frost would have killed all parthenogenetically overwintering ***,this strategy would only be efficient in restoring local polymorphism in breeding systems if the newly hatched OP recombinants remain competitive over their CP *** this study we compared egg hatching sequences of CP and OP F1 clones from several crosses obtained for 2 cereal aphid species,Sitobion avenae (constant 5℃,8 h of light)and Rhopalosiphum padi (winter outdoor conditions).For ***,we obtained F1 offspring from 6 crosses, involving 4 clones while in *** F1 were obtained from 11 crosses involving 14 clones. We showed that in both species proportions of OP clones were higher in the first half of the progeny relative to the second *** addition,F1 OP clones hatched in the mean about a week earlier than their CP sibs,which gives them a demographic advantage at the start of the growth *** then discussed the consequences of this fitness advantage for the maintenance and spread of the OP trait in aphid populations.

Experimental Investigation on Prototype Latent heat Thermal Battery Charging and Discharging Function Integrated with Solar Collector

This paper reports the performance investigation of a newly developed Latent heat Thermal Battery(LhTB)integrated with a solar collector as the main source of *** LhTB is a new solution in the field of thermal storage and developed based on the battery concept in terms of recharge ability,portability and usability as a standalone *** is fabricated based on the thermal battery storage concept and consists of a plate-fin and tube heat exchanger located inside the battery casing and paraffin wax which is used as a latent heat storage *** thermal energy is absorbed by solar collector and transferred to the LhTB using water as heat Transfer Fluid(hTF).Charging experiments have been conducted with a hTF at three different temperatures of 68°C,88°C and 108°C and three different flow rates of 30,60 and 120 l/*** is followed by discharging experiments on fully charged LhTB at three different temperatures of 68°C,88°C and 108°C using hTF at three different flow rates of 30,60 and 120 l/*** is found that both higher hTF inlet temperature and flow rate have a positive impact on stored thermal ***,charging efficiency was decreased by increasing the hTF flow *** highest charging efficiency of 29%was achieved using hTF of 108°C at a flow rate of 30 l/*** of paraffin melted in this case,while part of the paraffin remained solid in other *** the other hand,the results from discharging experiments revealed that both recovered thermal energy and recovery efficiency increased by either increasing the LhTB temperature or hTF flow *** recovered thermal energy of 5,825 KJ at 35%recovery efficiency achieved at LhTB of 108°C using 120 l/h of hTF.

Adding memory to pressure-sensitive phosphors

Mechanoluminescence(ML)is the phenomenon describing the emission of light during mechanical action on a solid,leading to applications such as pressure sensing,damage detection and visualization of stress *** most cases,this mechanical action releases energy that was previously stored in the crystal lattice of the phosphor by means of trapped charge carriers.A drawback is the need to record the ML emission during a pressure *** this work,we provide a method for adding a memory function to these pressure-sensitive phosphors,allowing an optical readout of the location and intensity of a pressure event in excess of 72 h after the *** is achieved in the BaSi_(2)O_(2)N_(2):Eu^(2+) phosphor,where a broad trap depth distribution essential for the process is *** merging optically stimulated luminescence(OSL),thermoluminescence(TL)and ML measurements,the influence of light,heat and pressure on the trap depth distribution is carefully *** analysis demonstrates that mechanical action can not only lead to direct light emission but also to a reshuffling of trap *** memory effect not only is expected to lead to new pressure sensing applications but also offers an approach to study charge carrier transitions in energy storage phosphors.

Programming errors in Ethereum smart contracts can result in catastrophic financial losses from stolen *** vulnerability detectors can prevent vulnerable contracts from being deployed,this does not mean that such contracts will not be *** a vulnerable contract is instantiated on the blockchain and becomes the target of attacks,the identification of exploit transactions becomes indispensable in assessing whether it has been actually exploited and identifying which malicious or subverted accounts were *** this work,we study the problem of post-factum investigation of Ethereum attacks using Indicators of Compromise(IoC)specially crafted for use in the *** definitions need to capture the side-effects of successful exploitation in the context of the Ethereum ***,we define a model for smart contract execution,comprising multiple abstraction levels that mirror the multiple views of code execution on a ***,we compare IoCs defined across the different levels in terms of their effectiveness and practicality through EtherClue,a prototype tool for investigating Ethereum security *** results illustrate that coarse-grained IoCs defined over blocks of transactions can detect exploit transactions with less ***,they are contract-specific and suffer from false *** the other hand,fine-grained IoCs defined over virtual machine instructions can avoid these pitfalls at the expense of increased computation,which is nevertheless applicable for practical use.

背景与目的卵巢癌是在妇科恶性肿瘤中死亡率最高的肿瘤,主要原因是由于缺乏有效的早期诊断方法。为了发现新的、特异性癌基因和进一步探索上皮性卵巢癌的临床意义,本文探索出一种新方法,通过结合cDNA微阵列和RNA原位杂交冰冻组织微阵列的方法寻找特异性卵巢癌基因。方法利用cDNA微阵列筛选在3种不同卵巢癌中(卵巢浆液性交界性肿瘤、卵巢浆液性腺癌和卵巢子宫内膜样腺癌)显示有意义表达的基因,并由RNA原位杂交冰冻组织微阵列证实其结果。结果40个基因和ESTs显示出在卵巢浆液性交界性肿瘤、浆液性和子宫内膜样卵巢癌3种类型之间基因表达有明显的差异;EPhB6、PTPRF、GFER、ERG25、PLRP1,FLJ22060和WISP2被进一步用于RNA原位杂交冰冻组织微阵列研究,其结果与cDNA微阵列研究结果相符合。结论cDNA微阵列和RNA原位杂交冰冻组织微阵列相结合是一种理想的寻找癌相关基因的方法,EPhB6,PTPRF,GFER,ERG25,PLRP1,FLJ22060和WISP2有可能成为新的上皮性卵巢癌候选基因。
