A novel Mg-based bimetal reagent(Mg/Cu)was used as an enhanced reductive system to degrade insensitivemunition 2,4-dinitroanisole(dNAN),a contaminant found in *** ofdNANwas significantly impacted by dissolved oxygen and studied in anoxic and oxic bimetal systems(i.e.,purging with N2,air,or O_(2) gas).degradation occurred through sequential nitroreduction:first one nitro group was reduced(ortho or para)to form short-lived intermediates 2-amino-4-nitroanisole or 4-amino-2-nitroanisole(2-ANAN or 4-ANAN),and then subsequent reduction of the other nitro group formed 2,4-diaminoanisole(dAAN).The nitro-amino intermediates demonstrated regioselective reduction in the ortho position to 2-ANAN;Regioselectivity was also impacted by the anoxic/oxic *** O_(2)-purging dNAN degradation rate was slightly enhanced,but most notably O_(2) significantly accelerated dAAN *** also further degraded only in the oxygenated Mg/Cu *** of dNAN byproducts to the reagent occurred regardless of anoxic/oxic condition,resulting in a partition of carbon mass between the adsorbed phase(27%-35%)and dissolved phase(59%-72%).Additional surface techniqueswere applied to investigate contaminant interaction with *** functional theory(dFT)calculations identified preferential adsorption structures for dNAN on Cu with binding through two O atoms of one or both nitro groups.X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)measurements determined the oxidation state of catalyticmetal Cu and formation of a Cu-O-N bond during *** desorption ionization mass spectrometry(LdI-MS)measurements also identified intermediate 2-ANAN adsorbed to the bimetal surface.

This study proposes an alternative approach to the investigation of high flow hydrogeological fractures within the basement in the dabakala region of north-central Côte d’Ivoire. The used approach consists of exploring the subsurface by measuring electrical resistivity contrasts along the main shear direction within crystallophyllian rocks. Electrical resistivity profiling and vertical electrical sounding techniques, coupled with boreholes monitoring, have identified fractured aquifers whose best flow rates are around 96 and 116 m3/h. These aquifers mostly hosted in granodiorite have an average strength of 10 meters and are located at depth of around 100 meters. They are associated with open fractures created by tangential shear stresses that have affected the dabakala volcano-sedimentary trench formations. The search for fractured aquifers along the main shear direction offers great perspective for obtaining high flow rates.

In the wake of ever-increasing environmental pollution, human skin in the modern urban world is exposed to increased levels of harmful environmental pollutants. Many studies have shown that these pollutants can weaken the epidermal skin barrier and thus facilitate the penetration of these substances into the skin. An important goal of modern skin care against harmful environmental influences should therefore be to protect and strengthen the epidermal barrier and to repair occurring damage quickly and efficiently. With this in mind, in the present study we investigated what damage cigarette smoke causes to the epidermal barrier and 1) whether the regular application of a O/W emulsion (day Cream) can protectively strengthen the epidermal barrier against environmental damage and 2) whether a cigarette smoke-induced disruption of the epidermal barrier is restored faster and better by the regular application of a another O/W emulsion (Night Cream) than in product-untreated skin. The two products are slightly different in plant-oil, active ingredient composition and texture. Firstly, the study has shown that the Lipbarvis? method is suitable for measuring the effect of cigarette smoke, in contrast to conventional biophysical measurement methods (transepidermal water loss, skin hydration). Secondly, both products were able to improve skin barrier function in the corresponding test scenario. This was demonstrated for both test products by a significantly reduced TEWL, significantly increased skin hydration and significantly improved length of the lipid lamellae in the intercellular space, as well as the protective effect of the day cream on the epidermal skin barrier and the regenerative properties of the tested night cream. .

A simple yet useful criterion based on external markings and/or number of dorsal spines is currently used to differentiate two congeneric archer fish species Toxotes chatareus and Toxotes *** we investigate other morphometric and meristic characters that can also be used to differentiate these two *** component and/or discriminant functions revealed that meristic characters were highly correlated with pectoral fin ray count,number of lateral line scales,as well as number of anal fin *** results indicate that *** can be distinguished from *** by having a greater number of lateral line scales,a lower number of pectoral fin rays,and a higher number of anal fin *** contrast,morphometric discriminant analyses gave relatively low distinction:76.1% of fish were ascribed to the correct species *** observed morphometric differences came from the dorsal and anal spines lengths,with *** having shorter dorsal and longer anal spines than ***,meristic traits were more useful than morphometrics in differentiating the two species;nevertheless,meristics and morphometrics together provide information about the morphological differentiation between these two closely related archer fishes.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the commonest cancers worldwide, particularly in parts of the developing world, and is increasing in incidence. This article reviews the current modalities employed for the diagnosis of HCC, including serum markers, radiological techniques and histological evaluation, and summarises international guidelines for the diagnostic approach to HCC.

The nanoelectronics industry is facing historical challenges to scale down CMOS devices to meet demands for low voltage, low power, high performance and increased functionality. Using new materials and devices architectures is necessary. HiK gate dielectrics and metal gates have been introduced and have shown their ability to reduce power consumption. Fully depleted ultra-thin SOI devices are a good alternative to bulk for low power applications. Multigate devices are the current goal in device architecture to increase MOSFET drivability, reduce power, and allow new opportunities for future applications. Thin film based solutions will be necessary in the future because of fundamental limitations on gate capacitance scaling and system integration requirements. Exploiting 3d device stacking via wafer bonding could be a good way to introduce new materials (HiK, strained Si, hybrid orientations, Ge, III-Vs, Carbon-based materials, graphene and CNTs, and functional molecules) and continue increasing integration density. Si based CMOS will be scaled beyond the ITRS as the System-on-Chip/Wafer Platform.

The CLE40 and CRN/CLV2 Signaling Pathways Antagonistically Control Root Meristem Growth in Arabidopsis

differentiation processes in the primary root meristem are controlled by several signaling pathways that are regulated by phytohormones or by secreted peptides. Long-term maintenance of an active root meristem requires that the generation of new stem cells and the loss of these from the meristem due to differentiation are precisely coordinated. Via phenotypic and large-scale transcriptome analyses of mutants, we show that the signaling peptide CLE40 and the recep- tor proteins CLV2 and CRN act in two genetically separable pathways that antagonistically regulate cell differentiation in the proximal root meristem. CLE40 inhibits cell differentiation throughout the primary root meristem by controlling genes with roles in abscisic acid, auxin, and cytokinin signaling. CRN and CLV2 jointly control target genes that promote cell differentiation specifically in the transition zone of the proximal root meristem. While CRN and CLV2 are not acting in the CLE40 signaling pathway under normal growth conditions, both proteins are required when the levels of CLE40 or related CLE peptides increase. We show here that two antagonistically acting pathways controlling root meristem differentiation can be activated by the same peptide in a dosage-dependent manner.
