Introduction: Healthcare industries have seen recent movements towards continuous quality improvement. The healthcare regulators shifted towards a market-driven approach of turning patient satisfaction surveys into a quality improvement tool for overall organizational performance. Data concerning this has remained limited in private sector in Zimbabwe. Thus, this study aims to determine patients and health workers perception about health services offered at Galen house in order to enable the institution to come up with evidence-based interventions to improve the quality of healthcare services. Methods: This was a descriptive cross sectional study. It was a mixed qualitative and quantitative study involving data collected from patients/ guardians and health workers at Galen House from January 2019 to March of the same year. Data was analysed using Microsoft Excel version 2013. Results: There were a total of 270 patients involved into the study. 173 (64%) perceived the waiting before services as good. 213 (79%) perceived the total waiting time as not long. Privacy 215 (80%) and confidentiality 223 (83%) perceived as good by patients. More than 50% of health workers perceived health services offered at Galen House as good. Staff attitude was perceived as good 191 (71%) by patients in contrary to some instance by health workers. Affordability of services was perceived as manageable. Conclusion: The total waiting time was perceived as not long at Galen House. Staff attitude was perceived differently by patients and health workers. Improving those two will contribute to more utilization of services by the community.

Ohno连续铸造（OCC）过程中富集于凝固界面前沿的溶质的再分配形式是决定铸锭杂质含量的一个关键因素。因此,要获得高纯铸锭,有必要对OCC连铸过程中的质量传输进行控制。本文研究的目的就是确定OCC连铸时不同铸造速度情况下对熔体进行机械搅拌的方法和搅拌的强度。研究比较了在凸起的凝固界面前沿引入轴向和横向机械搅拌对溶质传输的影响,发现轴向搅拌可以有效地将凝固界面处富集的溶质输送到熔体深处;通过数值模拟确定了不同铸造速度下所需的轴向搅拌的强度;利用ANSYS Fluent 12.1软件模拟计算了插入凝固界面前沿熔体中的碳化硅叶片产生的熔体流动对溶质传输的影响,发现,在OCC连铸中通过足够的机械搅拌可以在常规铸造速度下获得高纯铸锭。

Electromagnetic Braking of Natural Convection during Ohno Continuous Casting of an Industrial Aluminum Alloy

With the purpose of obtaining compositionally uniform ingots during Ohno continuous casting of a dilute industrial aluminum alloy through eliminating segregation due to convection, a magnetic field strength required to damp natural convection and suppress macrosegregation was numerically determined. This was achieved by solving conservation equations of continuity, momentum, energy and Maxwell’s equations in order to predict the magnetic field effects on flow field (determining macrosegregation). The electromagnetic field was applied orthogonally to the natural convection flow. Through this approach, the optimum magnetic field strength required to damp natural convection and establish diffusion controlled solute transport of the alloy during solidification was established.

Availability and Potability of Alternative Domestic Water in an African City： The Case of Harare, Zimbabwe

A study was carried out between November 2010 and April 2011 to assess the availability and potability of water from alternative water sources in Harare, Zimbabwe＇s capital city. A survey of 256 households from a total of 10 high, medium and low income suburbs and informal settlements was undertaken to assess types and amount of water consumed. This was complemented by a water quality study that assessed a selection of physical, chemical and bacteriological parameters. Quality of the water was compared to World Health Organisation and Zimbabwean standards. All households were found to rely on water sources other than municipal water. Per capita water consumption across settlements was found to be below the recommended upper limit of 50 litres per person per day except in one high income suburb, but above the recommended lower limit of 15 litres. All samples were within the acceptable limit for color but above the acceptable limit for turbidity. Chemical parameters were found to be within the acceptable range except for total hardness, where 35% of the samples were above the acceptable range. About a third of the samples from low income suburbs and informal settlements were above the acceptable limit for faecal and total coliforms.

Potential Impact of Wash Bay Effluent on the Water Quality of a Subtropical River

Washbay effluents have received scant attention as a potential source of water pollution globally. This study is the first to investigate the potential impact of the total wash bay effluent content released into river water in Africa. We investigated the potential ramifications of wash bay effluxent released off Charter Estates, Chimanimani in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe on the water quality of the receiving subtropical Nyahode River by measuring selected water limnochemical aspects which included biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), oil and grease, pH, sulphates, phosphates, iron, total suspended solids (TSS), dissolved oxygen (DO) and electrical conductivity (EC) once every 3 months from October 2011 to July 2012. The obtained mean levels of the limnochemical parameters from the Nyahode River were compared to the local Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and international World Health Organisation (WHO) effluent standards. Our results show that the control point and the off effluent discharge source downstream points in the Nyahode River had water quality parameters that were below the local EMA and WHO water quality threshold values. Cluster analysis showed a strong linkage in the values of water quality parameters measured at sampling sites 3 and 4 which were below the discharge point. Wash bay effluent released from the Charter Estate has an impact on some aspects of the water in the Nyahode River but the river has a functional self-purification capacity. Onsite industrial purification of wash bay effluent before discharge reduces its potential deleterious impact on water quality, river habitat integrity and aquatic biodiversity.

Correlation in Gamma Ray Burst Time Delays between Pairs of Radio Photons

We present a pilot study of time delays Δt in four GRB Radio Afterglow emissions, i.e., delays in the arrival times of radio waves of different frequencies emanating from eight GRB Radio Afterglows. Unlike in most studies on this phenomenon, we do not assume that this time delay is due to the Photon being endowed with a non-zero mass, but that this may very well be due to the interstellar space being a cold rarefied cosmic plasma, which medium’s Electrons interact with the electric component of the Photon, thus generating tiny currents that lead to dispersion, hence, a frequency (v) dependent speed of Light where this speed scales off as v-1. The said interaction is such that, lower frequency Photons will propagate at lower speeds than higher frequency Photons thus leading to the observed time delays in the arrivals times of Photons of different frequencies. In reasonable accord with the proposed model, we find that for four of these GRB afterglows, there is a strong unsolicited correlation between the observed time delays and the frequency. If this model can be corroborated by a large enough data set, there is hope that this same model might lead to a better understanding of the observed time delays in GRBs.

The Effect of Water Hyacinth (<i>Eichhornia crassipes</i>) Compost on Tomato (<i>Lycopersicon esculentum</i>) Growth Attributes, Yield Potential and Heavy Metal Levels

The potential of different water hyacinth compost application rates in influencing growth attributes, yield and heavy metal accumulation of lead (Pb), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) in tomato fruit was studied in Masvingo. Four treatments of water hyacinth compost rates of 0, 37, 55.6 and 74.1 t·ha-1 were each replicated three times and applied in a randomized complete block design set up. Results showed that water hyacinth compost application rates significantly affected plant height, days to maturity and yield but had no influence on the number of tomato fruits per plant. The plant height at application rate of 74.1 t·ha-1 was 25%, 56% and 63% higher than the control at week 6, 9 and 12, respectively. At application rates of 56.6 t·ha-1, plant heights were 11%, 13% and 12% higher than the control whilst marginal plant height differences of -4%, 6% and 4% were recorded between application rate of 34.7 t·ha-1 and the control at week 6, 9 and 12, respectively. Tomato plants under compost rates of 34.7, 56.6 and 74.1 t·ha-1 in comparison to the control delayed maturity by 10, 17 and 20 days, respectively. Yields of 52, 55, 60 and 68 t·ha-1 were realized from hyacinth compost rates of 0, 34.7, 56.6 and 74.1 t·ha-1, respectively. Heavy metal concentrations increased with increase in the water hyacinth compost rate but at all application rates, the average concentrations were 85%, 93% and 86% lower than the Codex Alimentarious Commission permissible levels for Pb, Cu and Zn. Water hyacinth compost at a rate of 74 t·ha-1 therefore can be used for increased tomato yield without exposing consumers to heavy metal toxicity.

Geospatial Coronavirus Vulnerability Regression Modelling for Malawi Based on Cumulative Spatial Data from April 2020 to May 2021

In the past two to three years, the world has been heavily affected by the infectious coronavirus disease and Malawi has not been spared due to its interconnection with neighboring countries. There is no management tool to identify and model the vulnerabilities of Malawi’s districts in prioritizing health services as far as coronavirus prevalence and other infectious diseases are concerned. The aim of this study was to model coronavirus vulnerability in all districts in Malawi using Geographic Information System (GIS) to monitor the disease’s cumulative prevalence over the severely affected period between 2020 and 2021. To achieve this, four parameters associated with coronavirus prevalence, including population density, percentage of older people, temperature, and humidity, were prepared in a GIS environment and used in the modelling process. A multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) model was used to model and determine the vulnerability of coronavirus in Malawi. In the MGWR modelling, the Fixed Spatial Kernel was used following a Gaussian distribution model type. The Results indicated that population density and older people (age greater than 60 years) have a more significant impact on coronavirus prevalence in Malawi. The modelling further shows that Malawi, between April 2020 and May 2021, Lilongwe, Blantyre and Thyolo were more vulnerable to coronavirus than other districts. This research has shown that spatial variability of Covid-19 cases using MGWR has the potential of providing useful insights to policymakers for targeted interventions that could otherwise not be possible to detect using non-geovisualization techniques.

In sub-Saharan Africa,limited studies have investigated zoonotic pathogens that may be harboured by ticks infesting reptiles such as ***,we report the presence of pathogenic Rickettsia in ticks(Amblyomma marmoreum)collected from the leopard tortoise(Geochelone pardalis)in rural *** polymerase chain reaction,56%(49/87)of ticks were positive for the Rickettsia outer membrane protein(ompB)***-locus sequence and phylogenetic analysis based on the ompB,ompA,and citrate synthase(gltA)genes showed that the ticks carried ***,and other Rickettsia *** related to ***,***,*** and *** the proximity between humans,livestock,and wildlife in these habitats,there exists a considerable risk of transmission of zoonotic Rickettsia to human populations in this rural *** results call for heightened awareness and further research into the dynamics of tick-borne diseases in regions where humans and animals coexist,particularly in the context of tortoise-associated ticks as *** and addressing these potential disease vectors is crucial for effective public health measures and the prevention of Rickettsia zoonoses.
