Composites of polycaprolactone （PCL） with mesoporous silica MCM-41 and N-[3- （trimethoxysilyl）propyl]-ethylenediamine （EPTES）-functionalized MCM-41 （EPTES/MCM-41） were prepared by in situ polymerization. The thermal properties of the composites were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis. There was an increase in the thermal decomposition temperature of PCL by more than 55 ℃, when the EPTES/MCM-41 loading was higher than 2 wt%. Tensile test results indicated that adding MCM-41 increased the brittleness of the PCL matrix, while adding 8 wt% of EPTES/MCM-41 increased the Young＇s modulus by 26%. Incorporating MCM-41 increased the crystallinity of the resulting PCL composite, compared with that of PCL. Incorporating up to 5 wt% EPTES/MCM-41 slightly reduced the crystallinity of PCL. The different effects of MCM-41 and EPTES/MCM-41 on the composite reflected the degree of interaction and dispersion of the silica filler in the polymer matrix, as evidenced by results from transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy.

Granular materials composed of different-sized grains may experience undesired *** is detrimental for a lot of industries because it leads to an increase in production costs and *** these reasons,the segregation phenomena have been intensively studied in the last decades,and a lot of models have been provided by many ***,these models are mainly based on empirical relations rather than physical *** paper aims to confirm the main assumptions made by Volpato,Tirapelle,and Santomaso(2020)in their percolation theory by means of DEM *** simulated geometry is a tilting shear box filled with few tracer particles in a bed of coarser sized grains,and simulations are performed for a range of tilting frequencies and size *** results provide meaningful insight on the mathematical model parameters and allow us to say that the percolation theory relies on physically consistent assumptions.

A significant association between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and B-cell lymphoma has been reported by epidemiological studies, most of them describing a strong relationship between indolent lymphomas and HCV. Furthermore, the curative potential of antiviral therapy on HCV related indolent lymphomas supports a specific role for the virus in lymphomagenesis. These observations are reinforced by numerous laboratory experiments that led to several hypothetical models of B-cell transformation by HCV. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common lymphoma subtype in the western countries, has been associated to HCV infection despite its aggressive nature. This association seems particularly prominent in some geographical areas. Clinical presentation of HCV-associated DLBCL has consistently been reported to differ from the HCV-negative counterpart. Nevertheless, histopathology, tolerance to standard-of-care chemo-immunotherapy (R-CHOP or CHOP-like regimens) and final outcome of HCV-positive DLBCL patients is still matter of debate. Addition of rituximab has been described to enhance viral replication but the probability of severe hepatic complications remains low, with some exceptions (i.e., hepatitis B virus or immune immunodeficiency virus co-infected patients, presence of grade > 2 transaminases elevation, cirrhosis or hepatocarcinoma). HCV viral load in this setting is not necessarily directly associated with liver damage. Overall, treatment of HCV associated DLBCL should be performed in an interdisciplinary approach with hepatologists and hematologists with close monitoring of liver function. Available reports reveal that the final outcome of HCV-positive DLBCL that receive standard immunochemotherapy is not inferior to their HCV-negative counterpart. Formal analogies between the Car-Parrinello(CP)ab-initio molecular dynamics for quantum many-body systems,and the Lattice Boltzmann(LB)method for classical and quantum fluids,are pointed out.A theoretical scenario,whereby the quantum LB would be coupled to the CP framework to speed-up many-body quantum simulations,is also discussed,together with accompanying considerations on the computational efficiency of the prospective CP-LB scheme.

The derivation of the quantum lattice Boltzmann model is reviewed with special emphasis on recent developments of the model,namely,the extension to a multi-dimensional formulation and the application to the computation of the ground state of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation(GPE).Numerical results for the linear and nonlinear Schr odinger equation and for the ground state solution of the GPE are also presented and validated against analytical results or other classical schemes such as Crank-Nicholson.

In this paper, we introduce leptogenesis via a varying Weinberg operator from a semi-classical *** mechanism is motivated by the breaking of an underlying symmetry which triggers a phase transition that causes the coupling of the Weinberg operator to become dynamical. Consequently, a lepton anti-lepton asymmetry arises from the interference of the Weinberg operator at two different spacetime points. Using the semi-classical approach,we treat the Higgs as a background field and show that a reflection asymmetry between leptons and anti-leptons is generated in the vicinity of the bubble wall. We solve the equations of motion of the lepton and anti-lepton quasiparticles to obtain the final lepton asymmetry.

Plants adapted to challenging environments offer fascinating models of evolutionary change. Importantly,they also give information to meet our pressing need to develop resilient, low-input *** mounting environmental fluctuation—including temperature, rainfall, and soil salinity and degradation—this is more urgent than ever. Happily, solutions are hiding in plain sight: the adaptive mechanismsfrom natural adapted populations, once understood, can then be leveraged. Much recent insighthas come from the study of salinity, a widespread factor limiting productivity, with estimates of 20% ofall cultivated lands affected. This is an expanding problem, given increasing climate volatility, rising sealevels, and poor irrigation practices. We therefore highlight recent benchmark studies of ecologicallyadaptive salt tolerance in plants, assessing macro- and microevolutionary mechanisms, and therecently recognized role of ploidy and the microbiome on salinity adaptation. We synthesize insightspecifically on naturally evolved adaptive salt-tolerance mechanisms, as these works move substantiallybeyond traditional mutant or knockout studies, to show how evolution can nimbly ‘‘tweak’’ plantphysiology to optimize function. We then point to future directions to advance this field that intersectevolutionary biology, abiotic-stress tolerance, breeding, and molecular plant physiology.

In this work,conductive polymer nanocomposites were developed based on a biodegradable and biobased polymer(poly(lactic acid)),with the incorporation of only 0.3 wt%of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)to be used as volatile solvent *** correct dispersion of the nanofiller was achieved thanks to a CNT non-covalent modification with an azo-dye(disperse orange 3)which allowed to reach the percolation for electric conduction in values as low as 0.3 wt%.The chemo-resistive properties of the developed sensors were investigated by exposure to organic vapors(ethanol,tetrahydrofuran and toluene)and water vapor,showing good *** addition,considering the manipulation to which the sensor will be exposed,wear resistance was characterized,finding that the incorporation of CNTs produced an increase in more than a 50%.

Expert introduction Dr. Morris-Stiff (Figure 1) graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1992 and obtained his FRCS in 1997, chosing the specialty of hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery as his clinical domain. He trained in HPB and laparoscopic surgery in Cardiff, as well as in Birmingham and Leeds, and also undertook an American HPB Association Clinical Fellowship in HPB Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
