Presence of the Genes cagA, cagE, virB11 and Allelic Variation of vacA of Helicobacter pyloriAre Associated with the Activity of Gastritis

Non-atrophic active chronic gastritis (ACG) is characterized by the presence of H. pylori in the gastric epithelium, known to be one of the first steps that precede progression to gastric adenocarcinoma. Inactive chronic gastritis (ICG) suggests that the patient has H. pylori gastritis, but this diagnosis is rarely made in routine histopathology. Clinical manifestations associated with H. pylori infection are potentially due to differences in virulence between strains;however, it is unclear if the progression of ACG to ICG depends on the H. pylori strain. The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of the virulence factors of H. pylori found in patients with ACG and ICG, and its influence on the development of ICG. A significant association was observed between H. pylori detection by histological examination and the activity of gastritis (p 1 year) was reported by 28.6% of the ACG group and 42.5% of the ICG, while no evidence of association between long-term use of PPI and decreased inflammation was found in the patients studied. The genes cagA, cagE and virB11 were statistically associated with ACG (p = 0.01, p vacAs1 allele groups, ACG was associated with the most virulent group (p = 0.0015), while ICG was associated with the less virulent group (p < 0.001). The rate of co-infection was significantly higher in ICG than in ACG cases (p = 0.02). In conclusion, this study points to the role of virulent strains of H. pylori in the non-resolution of gastritis.

Raising of Horn Fly Haematobia irritans(L.)(Diptera:Muscidae)in Laboratory by Means of Egg and Larva Inoculation

Several studies have required Haematobia irritans (L.) raising in laboratory. The present study assessed two methods of inoculating immature forms of H. irritans to obtain adults. In 2007, 15 Nellore steers (Bos indicus) (L.) were used for the collection of feces free of anthelmintic treatment and flies to produce for eggs and larva. For method I, 30 eggs were incubated in square filter paper (5 × 5 cm) and deposited on bovine feces (500 g) where they were kept until hatching and spontaneous penetration of larvae (L1) into the fecal mass. After 24 h, eggs were analyzed under a stereoscope microscope (40×) for the number of larvae that instinctively penetrated the feces. In method II, larvae were obtained only by natural egg hatching. At birth, 30 larvae were collected and individually inoculated, directly onto the fecal plate by employing a moistened brush. The tests were carried out at controlled temperature (28°C ± 2°C) and saturated humidity (80%) until the emergence of flies with both methods. The number of emerged flies was considered in the result. Using method I, 276 (76.7%) flies emerged from 360 inoculated eggs, while using method II, 283 (78.6%) flies emerged from 360 inoculated larvae. There was no significant difference (P = 0.7821) between methods for the number of flies;however, the proportion between males and females by means of larva inoculation was different from 1:1 (P = 0.0146). Results indicated that both methods led to a satisfactory production of flies and egg inoculation provided an easier establishment.

In Vitro Antibacterial Potential of Plant Extracts and in Vivo Ilex paraguariensis Effect on Oreochromis niloticus Physiology and Resistance to Aeromonas hydrophila

The aim of the study was to investigate the antibacterial potential of garlic(Allium sativum),pinus(Pinus elliottii),eucalyptus(Eucalyptus sp.),yerba mate(Ilex paraguariensis)and guava tree(Psidium guajava Linn.)in vitro and the effect of yerba mate supplementation on Oreochromis niloticus physiology and resistance to Aeromonas *** in vitro antibacterial potential of the plants was verified by the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)method and by the antimicrobial sensitivity test(TSA).The in vivo assay was performed using diet supplementation with yerba mate and challenge with *** the supplementation and challenge periods biochemical,immune and physiological parameters were *** in vitro assays showed that only yerba mate presented antibacterial potential against *** and no one of the plant extracts were effective against Streptococcus *** use of yerba mate in the diet did not influence the immune and metabolic status of ***,the supplementation did not act as a growth promoter for the *** the challenge of *** with ***,the yerba mate did not improve the resistance of the fishes to the *** yerba mate extract presented potential to be used as an antibacterial agent for fish ***,more detailed studies are necessary to stablish effective doses and times required for fish treatments.

Background:With the rising global prevalence of fatty liver disease related to metabolic dysfunction,the association of this common liver condition with chronic kidney disease(CKD)has become increasingly *** 2020,the more inclusive term metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)was proposed to replace the term non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).The observed association between MAFLD and CKD and our understanding that CKD can be a consequence of underlying metabolic dysfunction support the notion that individuals with MAFLD are at higher risk of having and developing CKD compared with those without ***,to date,there is no appropriate guidance on CKD in individuals with ***,there has been little attention paid to the link between MAFLD and CKD in the Nephrology *** and Results:Using a Delphi-based approach,a multidisciplinary panel of 50 international experts from 26 countries reached a consensus on some of the open research questions regarding the link between MAFLD and ***:This Delphi-based consensus statement provided guidance on the epidemiology,mechanisms,management and treatment of MAFLD and CKD,as well as the relationship between the severity of MAFLD and risk of CKD,which establish a framework for the early prevention and management of these two common and interconnected diseases.
