Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Angiotensin-(1 - 7) [Ang-(1 - 7)] has been correlated with cancer antiproliferative and apoptotic effects, similar properties of the human Chorionic Gonadotrofin (hCG). The aims of this work are to evaluate the role of Ang-(1 - 7) and of hCG in modulating the expression of Nuclear Receptors and Coregulators related genes in the tumorigenic breast cell line SK-BR3. Three experimental groups were created: control, hCG and hCG + Ang-(1 - 7). Cells were treated for 11 days and then had their RNA extracted. Samples were loaded into PCR Array plates containing 84 genes relate to Nuclear Receptors and Coregulators pathways. Gene expression data were used to construct canonical pathways (MetacoreTM). hCG and hCG + Ang-(1 - 7) treatments markedly modulate the expression of Nuclear Receptors and Coregulators related genes. hCG differentially expressed 17% of the genes, being 29% upregulated and 71% downregulated. Meanwhile, hCG + Ang-(1 - 7) changed the expression of 30% of the genes on the plate, among these genes 56% were upregulated and 44% downregulated. Among these differentially expressed genes, we highlight Esr1, Nr2f2, and Nr2f1, Esr1, Hdac5, and Nr4A1 (>4 fold). Finally MetaCore analysis based on Gene Ontology (GO) generated six networks for hCG and ten networks for the combined treatment. All generated networks are related to regulation of apoptosis or to Programmed Cell Death processes. In summary, our results herein demonstrate that the modulation of sexual hormones and of other nuclear factor genes expression might underlie the tumorigenic protection effect and the induction of cell differentiation caused by the hormones hCG and Ang-(1 - 7), especially in Cancer Stem Cells.

Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is undoubtedly the commonest androgen disorder in woman’s fertile period and certainly one of the most prevalent causes of anovulation. The syndrome has an estimated prevalence of 4% - 10% among women of childbearing age. Previously, our group demonstrated the effect of gonadal white adipose tissue transplantation from wild-type lean and fertile female mice to isogenic obese anovulatory ob/ob mice. These complex metabolic interrelationships between obesity and PCOS have yet to be fully understood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of gonadal white adipose tissue (WAT) transplantation from the wild-type lean and fertile female mice to isogenic obese, anovulatory mice (Lep ob/Lep ob) on the expression of glycolysis- and TCA cycle-related genes and obtain a general view of the glucose metabolism in the brain of these animals. Methods: Fifteen ob/ob mice ranging from 2 to 3 months of age were divided into 3 experimental groups: control normal weight (n = 5), obese control (n = 5) and obese 7 days leptin treated (n = 5). The whole brains of the mice were processed for RNA extraction. The samples from each group were used to perform PCR assays using an array plate containing 84 primers to study the glucose metabolism-related genes. Results: The glycolysis- and TCA cycle-related genes were significantly downregulated. The most significantly affected genes were as follows: for glycolysis (fold regulation with p < 0.05):Pgm1,Bpgm,Aldob, andEno3 (119, 45, 18, and 28 times less, respectively);and for the TCA cycle (fold regulation with p < 0.05):Cs,Idh3b, andMdh2 (84, 27, and 37 times less, respectively).Conclusion: The seven-day leptin treated mice show a decrease in the glucose metabolism. These results confirm the ability of the adipose tissue-derived hormone leptin to regulate early crucial genes that are related to glycolysis mechanisms and to the TCA cycle. Dengue in renal transplant recipients: Clinical course and impact on renal function

AIM To present clinical characteristics from renal transplant recipients with dengue fever and its impact on graft *** We retrospectively evaluated 11 renal transplant recipients(RTR) with dengue infection confirmed by laboratory test, between January 2007 and July 2012, transplanted in the Renal Transplant Center of Walter Cantídio University Hospital from Federal University of Ceará. RESULTS Positive dengue serology(IgM) was found in all patients. The mean time between transplant and dengue infection was 43 mo. Fever was presented in all patients. Nine patients presented with classical dengue and two(18%) with dengue hemorrhagic fever. All cases had satisfactory evolution with complete recovery of the symptoms. The time for symptom resolution varied from 2 to 20 d, with an average of 9 d. An increase of creatinine after the infection was observed in three(27.2%) patients with no clinically impact on the kidney graft function. CONCLUSION RTR with dengue infection seems to have a clinical presentation and evolution similar to those seen in the general population, with no long-term damage to patient and to the graft.

Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is an infectious agent that occurs in small ruminants causing caseous lymphadenitis, and more rarely in humans causing lymphadenitis and pneumonia. The breeding small ruminants have great economic importance in Brazil. Rural farm workers and veterinary students who acquired this disease suffered from weakening symptoms for weeks, and the identification of the etiological agent was time-consuming and complex. Due to the low prevalence of case records, there is probably no available commercial diagnostic kit for C. pseudotuberculosis infection in humans. This study aimed to describe human seroreactivity to secreted antigens from C. pseudotuberculosis. Reactivity of serum from farm workers (n = 14), individuals who work with the bacillus at laboratory (n = 8) or individuals without contact (n = 25) was tested with secreted proteins from PAT10 strain of C. pseudotuberculosis by Western blotting. Samples of all (100%) farm workers showed reactivity to 31 kDa, 71 kDa and 164 kDa proteins, while laboratory workers showed 87.5%, 62.5 % and 37.5%, and no-contact 20%, 0% and 16%, respectively. All sera recognized the 275 kDa protein. Our data suggest that C. pseudotuberculosis secreted proteins are antigenic in humans and the recognition profiles allowed the identification of individuals with and without prior contact with this bacillus. This is the first paper which describes human reactivity to C. pseudotuberculosis in serum samples of workers in Brazil.
