Aims Soil plays an important role in the formation and heterogene-ity of habitats and thus can cause changes in vegetation struc-ture and plant *** differentiation between Cerrado/savanna and forest is well known,but the relationship between soil and habitats from savannic or forest formations still needs to be better understood,particularly in tropical ecotonal *** studied the association between attributes of plant com-munities,namely structure and diversity,and physicochemical characteristics of soils in the Caatinga domain at the transition to Cerrado in *** Chemical and physical analyses of soils were performed in samples of 38 plots from savannic formations and 30 plots from forest *** was characterized floristically and structurally in all plots,five habitats being assessed in each plant *** features and vegetation parameters were highly distinct among the different *** Findingsin general,forest habitats were more nutrient rich than savannic ***,soil variables showed effects both on vegetation structure and on its species diversity,more pronouncedly in the savannic *** were structurally distinct,and diversity differed between savannic and forest communities;however,a higher differentiation occurred when the savannic formation habitats were compared among *** plant diversity did not differ among forest formation habitats,soil attributes showed a close relationship with edaphic factors and can contribute for similar *** soil-vegetation relationship in highly diverse ecotonal landscapes is important from the conservation biology point of view and aid in the execution of proactive plans for the maintenance of ***,we noticed that diversity and soil behaves distinctly between savannic and forest communities.

Adult Education and Training in Portugal： A Multi-case Study Focused on Autobiographical Experiences

In our actual framework of constant social and cultural changing, we are witnessing a transformation of the adults＇ patterns and pathways of life. Currently, people＇s lives cannot be analyzed using a macro-perspective, marked by partitioning phases, but the various stages we undergo from childhood to the third age are being overlapped and this is reflected with particular relevance in the field of learning, where the notion of lifelong learning is present in our personal, social and professional everyday contexts, in Portugal, the New Opportunities Initiative is building new and innovative education and training pathways, which privilege the autobiographical methods, where adults, from their life stories, are challenged to resort to new ways of valuing their experiences, potentiating the acquisition of new skills, in a logic of personal, social and professional empowerments. This formative/training logic has shown to be the promoter of a growing autonomy from the adults. We will present, here, the qualitative multi-case study we are developing in this area, which is centered on adults＇/professionals＇ autobiographies and focuses on the understanding of adult education, lifelong learning and on the analysis of the mediation figures associated with them.

Treatment of spinal cord injury with biomaterials and stem cell therapy in non-human primates and humans

Spinal cord injury results in the loss of sensory,motor,and autonomic functions,which almost always produces permanent physical ***,in the search for more effective treatments than those already applied for years,which are not entirely efficient,researches have been able to demonstrate the potential of biological strategies using biomaterials to tissue manufacturing through bioengineering and stem cell therapy as a neuroregenerative approach,seeking to promote neuronal recovery after spinal cord *** of these strategies has been developed and meticulously evaluated in several animal models with the aim of analyzing the potential of interventions for neuronal repair and,consequently,boosting functional *** the majority of experimental research has been conducted in rodents,there is increasing recognition of the importance,and need,of evaluating the safety and efficacy of these interventions in non-human primates before moving to clinical trials involving therapies potentially promising in *** article is a literature review from databases(PubMed,Science Direct,Elsevier,Scielo,Redalyc,Cochrane,and NCBI)from 10 years ago to date,using keywords(spinal cord injury,cell therapy,non-human primates,humans,and bioengineering in spinal cord injury).From 110 retrieved articles,after two selection rounds based on inclusion and exclusion criteria,21 articles were ***,this review arises from the need to recognize the experimental therapeutic advances applied in non-human primates and even humans,aimed at deepening these strategies and identifying the advantages and influence of the results on extrapolation for clinical applicability in humans.

Background:Neglected tropical diseases(NTDs)prevail in conditions of poverty and contribute to the maintenance of social *** of the NTDs prioritized by the Brazilian Ministry of Health,four parasitic infections require mandatory notification:acute Chagas disease,leishmaniasis,malaria,and *** on the behaviour of these NTDs in the young population are currently *** study seeks to analyse the epidemiological aspects of these parasitic infections in children and adolescents in ***:A retrospective exploratory ecological study was conducted.A spatial analysis of the cases reported between 2009 and 2013 in individuals aged between 0 and 19 years that were notified through the Health Notification Aggravation Information System(SINAN)was ***:In total,64,567 cases of cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis,malaria,schistosomiasis,and acute Chagas disease were recorded in the SINAN database,representing a rate of 20.15 cases per 100,000 *** average age of the cases was 12.2 years and 62.32%were *** hundred and three deaths related to these obligatorily reported parasites were recorded,indicating a case fatality rate of 0.62%.Visceral leishmaniasis and acute Chagas disease had the highest rates of lethality.A heterogeneous spatial distribution of the studied parasites was ***:The number of cases and the lethality rate described in this study show that these diseases still represent a serious problem for public health in *** points to the need to encourage new research and the reformulation of social,economic,and public health policies aimed at ensuring better health and living conditions for all individuals,especially those among the populations considered vulnerable,as is the case of the young.

The Effects of Host Diversity in Anthracnose Management and Race Composition of Colletotrichum sublineolum in Sorghum Lineage Mixtures

Alternative strategies of management of sorghum diseases were implemented using field experiments conducted in Embrapa Maize and Sorghum Research Center,Brazil in 2001 until 2003 to evaluate the efficacy of lineage mixtures of Sorghum bicolor for the control of anthracnose(caused by Colletotrichum sublineolum).The calculated values for disease severity considered the area under the disease progress curve(AUDPC)observed for the nine susceptible and resistant elite strains of sorghum planted in 30 stands *** stand was drawn in mixtures of three genotypes each,in the same proportions per *** design was compared with the severity of the disease measured in AUDPC calculated for each of the same nine strains of sorghum in pure *** most of the cases,the disease severity on the susceptible cultivars was decreased;and in some cases,reached 85%of disease reduction compared with disease progress in pure stand of correspondent *** implication and effect of these sorghum mixtures on the populations of *** on each treatment were evaluated and revealed that there was an increase of frequency of complex races in most of these mixtures and a highest phenotypic diversity for virulence to pathogen populations from pure stands,than the characterized on populations collected from the mixtures,despite of the effectiveness on decrease of the anthracnose severity.

Ten Years of Minimum Efficiency Standards for Induction Motors in Brazil： From Standards Class until Super Premium Motors

The year 2012 marked the 10th anniversary of publication of Presidential Decree No. 4508/2002, which set forth minimum efficiency standards for induction motors in Brazil. Within this context, the present article focuses on the importance of implementing minimum efficiency standards in Brazil and elsewhere and presents the state of the art in domestic and international legislation and standards pertaining to induction motors. It also covers advancements in motor technology, by means of an analysis of motors currently on the market, and trends in said technology, with particular emphasis on the search for new materials for permanent magnet manufacturing. The results of experimental testing of a permanent-magnet motor and a premium-efficiency induction motor are presented and discussed, with the objective of contributing to definition of the IE4 （Efficiency Level from International Electrotechnical Commission） standard and to the goal-oriented Brazilian efficiency program. The present article described the results of experimental testing with an induction motor and a line-start permanent-magnet motor and concluded that permanent-magnet motors are superior in performance to induction motors at loads between half and full, with an efficiency advantage of up to 6.7%. However, in applications with wide variations in load, with motor operation below half load, use of permanent-magnet motors is not economically feasible, as the current cost of these motors exceeds that of induction motors. Another relevant finding concerns the current harmonic distortion observed during testing. The tested permanent-magnet motor exhibited a distortion of up to 13.5%, exceeding Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standard 519/1992 recommended limits. This behavior must be clearly specified and taken into account by future standards that define the super premium class, lest the impact of harmonic distortion prove to be detrimental to industries that adopt these motors for their
