Diabe.e. le.ds to wide.pre.d complications including pancre.tic β-ce.l damage. ne.hropathy and impaire. wound he.ling. Hype.baric oxyge. the.apy (HBOT) has be.n shown to improve.wound he.ling through induction of ste. ce.l re.ruitme.t and the.pote.tial to inhibit progre.sion of diabe.ic complications. We.aime. to de.e.mine.the.e.ficacy of HBOT in wound he.ling and organ pre.e.vation in a diabe.ic rat mode.. Diabe.e. was induce. in male.Wistar rats (n = 10/group) using stre.tozotocin (20 mg/kg sc) daily for 3 days. A wound was inflicte. on the.skin ove. the.back and the.rats we.e.give. HBOT (2.3 ATA for 1 h/day) for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days or we.e.not tre.te.. Blood glucose. pancre.tic β-ce.l damage. diabe.ic ne.hropathy and wound he.ling progre.sion we.e.asse.se.. Diabe.ic rats not tre.te. with HBOT had significantly highe. blood glucose.le.e.s compare. to controls (26.7 ± 3.3 mmol/L vs. 5.8 ± 0.4 mmol/L;P ≤ 0.05). This was associate. with significant incre.se.in the.pe.ce.tage.of β-ce.l damage.(72% ± 9% vs. 10% ± 2%;P ≤ 0.05) and diabe.ic ne.hropathy. HBOT for 3 days and longe. in diabe.ic rats re.uce. hype.glyce.ia to control le.e.s. Pancre.tic β-ce.l damage.was ne.ligible.in rats tre.te. with HBOT for 5 days and longe. while.diabe.ic ne.hropathy was diminishe. in animals tre.te. for 10 days. Similarly HBOT induce. wound he.ling and acce.e.ate. e.ithe.ial closure.from 5 days of HBOT. In summary, our findings show the.e.ficacy of HBOT in this diabe.ic rat mode.. The.e.was significant re.uction of hype.glyce.ia and inhibition of diabe.ic complications in the.form of pre.e.vation of pancre.tic and kidne. structure.and acce.e.ate. wound he.ling.
