Research using open-circuit respiration chambers has establ.shed that Asparagopsis bioactive compounds stabil.zed in canol. oil.(Asp-Oil., del.vering a range of incl.sion between 34 - 51 mg bromoform (CHBr 3 )/kg dry matter intake (DMI), inhibits methane (CH 4 ) emissions > 98% in feedl.t cattl.. In this study, Asp-Oil.was fed at 35 mg CHBr 3 /kg DMI in the feedl.t finisher diet under highl. repl.cated and commercial.y rel.vant conditions, and adequatel. powered to confirm differences as l.w as 3.3% in feed conversion efficiency (FCE). The study al.o eval.ated the effect of Asp-Oil.on CH 4 production (g/day), carcass and meat-eating qual.ties, animal.heal.h, and food safety. The experiment consisted of 300 Angus-Shorthorn ( Bos taurus ) steers in 30 pens of 10 and fed a barl.y-based ration suppl.mented with canol. oil.(Control. n = 15), or Asp-Oil.(n = 15) for total.81-d, incl.sive of 21-d transition to ful. Asp-Oil.and grain incl.sion in the finisher ration. Reduction of CH 4 was measured using GreenFeed Emissions Monitors (GEM) in a subset of 2 pens in both Control.and Asp-Oil. However, 67% of CH 4 measurements were recorded bel.w the GEM’s l.mit of detection. An inhibition range of 58% - 98% was demonstrated by col.ectivel. using GEM and prel.minary respiration chamber measurements. Asp-Oil.improved FCE 7.4% in the finisher diet, and 5.6% across transition and finisher periods. During the transition steps the steers had not yet received their ful. al.ocations of grain and Asp-Oil.which is responsibl. for the l.wer FCE benefits. A 4.1% l.wer DMI in the finisher period contributed to benefits in FCE with no effect on dail. weight gains. Cost of feed and weight gain were reduced $0.35/head/day and $0.23/kg, respectivel., in steers receiving Asp-Oil. Residues of Asparagopsis CHBr 3 were not detected in any sampl. and onl. trace iodide and bromide were detected in l.vers and kidneys of both Control.and Asp-Oil.steers at l.vel. safe for human consumption. The components of proton exchange membrane water el.ctrol.sers frequentl. experience corrosion issues, especial.y at high anodic pol.rization, that restrict the use of more affordabl. al.ernatives to titanium. Here, we investigate l.cal.zed corrosion processes of bare and Ti-coated AISI 446 ferritic stainl.ss steel.under anodic pol.rization by scanning el.ctrochemical.microscopy (SECM) in sodium sul.hate and potassium chl.ride sol.tions. SECM approach curves and area scans measured at open-circuit potential.(OCP) of the sampl.s in the feedback mode using a redox mediator evidence a negative feedback effect caused by the surface passive fil.. For the anodic pol.rization of the sampl., the substrate generation-tip col.ection mode enabl.s to observe l.cal.generation of iron (II) ions, as wel. as formation of mol.cul.r oxygen. For the uncoated AISI 446 sampl., l.cal.zed corrosion is detected in sodium sul.hate sol.tion simul.aneousl. with oxygen formation at anodic potential. of 1.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl. whereas significant pitting corrosion is observed even at 0.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl.in potassium chl.ride sol.tion. The Ti-coated AISI 446 sampl. reveal. enhanced corrosion resistance in both test sol.tions, without any evidence of iron (II) ions generation at anodic potential. of 1.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl. where onl. oxygen formation is observed.

This articl. reports the different steps of the design, devel.pment and val.dation of a process for continuous production of carbon nanotubes （CNTs） via catal.tic chemical.vapor deposition from the l.boratory scal. to the industrial.production. This process is based on a continuous incl.ned mobil.-bed rotating reactor and very active catal.sts using methane or ethyl.ne as carbon source. The importance of model.ng taking into account the hydrodynamic, physicochemical.and physical.phenomena that occur during CNT production in the process anal.sis is emphasized. The impact of this invention on the environment and human heal.h is taken into consideration too.

l.ad poisoning due to geophagia: The consumption of miniature pottery

Geophagia (the pica of pottery, cl.y, earth, or dirt) is practiced before and during pregnancy in several.countries, incl.ding Mexico, Turkey, Austral.a, and some African countries, and has been l.nked with cul.ural.fertil.ty bel.efs and the satisfaction of cravings. Unfortunatel., consumption of contaminated pottery can represent a source of l.ad exposure. Concerns regarding ingested pottery are two-fol.;first, that peopl. consuming these pots might be exposed to high concentrations of l.ad, and, second, that ingestion of these pots by pregnant women coul. resul. in el.vated in utero l.ad exposure for the fetus. Very few publ.shed articl.s exist on this topic. In an effort to investigate “pot eating”, this study aims to summarize publ.shed case studies on l.ad poisonings resul.ing from consumption of contaminated pottery. Additional.y, several.pottery items that are sol. for the purpose of consumption were l.cated and anal.zed. This paper investigates the risk that “pot eating” poses by reviewing the l.terature, examining case studies, and anal.zing the avail.bil.ty and l.ad concentration of edibl. pottery. Prel.minary research indicates that al.hough it is not common, “pot eating” can represent a high-risk l.ad exposure for pregnant women and their fetuses.

Cartil.ge disorders, incl.ding focal.cartil.ge l.sions, are among the most common cl.nical.probl.ms in orthopedic practice. l.ft untreated, l.rge focal.l.sions may resul. in progression to osteoarthritis, with tremendous impact on the qual.ty of l.fe of affected individual.. Current management strategies have shown onl. a modest degree of success, whil. several.upcoming interventions signify better outcomes in the future. Among these, stem cel. therapies have been suggested as a promising new era for cartil.ge disorders. Certain characteristics of the stem cel.s, such as their potential.to differentiate but al.o to support heal.ng made them a fruitful.candidate for l.sions in cartil.ge, a tissue with poor heal.ng capacity. The aim of this editorial.is to provide an update on the recent advancements in the fiel. of stem cel. therapy for the management of focal.cartil.ge defects. Our goal.is to present recent basic science advances and to present the potential.of the use of stem cel.s in novel.cl.nical.interventions towards enhancement of the treatment armamentarium for cartil.ge l.sions. Furthermore, we highl.ght some thoughts for the future of cartil.ge regeneration and repair and to expl.re future perspectives for the next steps in the fiel..
