Inventory of Radiation Protection in Hospitals of Level III in Senegal

The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of protection of employees who are exposed to radiation in a level III hospital establishment. It was a descriptive cross-sectional survey of six months’ duration, involving eight level III Hospitals (Aristide Le Dantec, Fann, Hoggy, Hear, Abass Ndao, Pikine, Touba, and Thiès) in Senegal. Sixty-one of the one hundred questionnaires were recovered (overall response rate of 61%). The population of the study was mainly female (54.1%). The average age was 38.57 with extremes ranging from 23 to 65 years old. In the places where ionizing radiation sources are handled, only at the Aristide Le Dantec Hospital did we find a “competent person in radiation protection”. This explained the lack of a classification of employees and work areas. Forty out of sixty-one (73.77%) had no knowledge of the basic principles of radiation protection (justification, optimisation, dose limitation) and had not ever taken radiation holidays. For radiovigilance, exposure time limits to ionizing radiation concerned only 29/61 or 47.54% of the study population. The inverse square law of distance was known by only 40 workers, of whom 15 had no compliance. We found the presence of dosifilms in only 7/61 or 11.47% of the workers. On the other hand, the use of lead aprons was well established and concerned 57/61 workers, i.e., 93.44%. In sum, ionizing radiation causes adverse health effects. The absence of a good radiation protection culture in Senegal requires the presence of at least 4 to 5 competent persons in radiation protection for quality training of workers in radiobiology, radiopathology and radiation protection.

Tectonic Style Associated with the Doleritic Dykes of the Téra-Ayorou Pluton (Liptako, Western Niger)

The doleritic dykes present in the Téra-Ayorou pluton crosscut the basement of the Nigerien Liptako and are part of the system of intrusive mafic dykes in the Paleoproterozoic domain of the Léo-Man ridge. In the previous work, emphasis was placed on the petrology, geochemistry and geochronology of the Liptako doleritic dykes. This study aims to analyze the tectonic style of intrusive doleritic dykes in the Téra-Ayorou pluton. The characterization of the deformation which affected the doleritic dykes of the Téra-Ayorou pluton is important for the evaluation of their economic potential. To this end, measurements of tectonic structure planes were taken in the field, and samples were taken from the chilled margin and cores of dolerite dykes, before being processed in the laboratory. Analysis of the tectonic structures collected revealed a brittle tectonic pattern, characterizing a phase of deformation subdivided into two episodes D1 and D2. Episode D1, with its subvertically dipping normal faults and simple N70˚ - N110˚ fractures, is compatible with N-S extension. On the other hand, episode D2, which created shear corridors by reactivation of pre-existing fractures and oriented N150˚ - N170˚, is associated with a WSW-ENE extension. These results open up prospects for the exploration of gold, uranium mineralization and diamonds in the north-west of Niger.

MODELING AND OPTIMIZATION OF CYCLIC HOIST SCHEDULES IN AN ELECTROPLATING LINE

This paper deals with the modeling, analysis and optimization of a specific kind of real industrial problems. This class of problems is known in the literature as Cyclic Hoist Scheduling Problem （CHSP）. In such class of problems, several jobs have to flow through a production line according to an ordered bath sequence. The CHSPs appear in the manufacturing facilities to achieve a mass production and to search a repetitive sequence of moves for the hoist. In this paper, we develop P-Temporal Petri Net models to represent the behavior and validate certain qualitative properties of the basic production line. Afterward, complex configurations of the production line are modeled and their properties such as reachability of desired functioning （cyclic operation）, deadlock-free, resource sharing and management are checked and validated. A mathematical analysis and a simulation study of all proposed Petri net models are carried out using mathematical fundaments of Petri nets and a Visual Object Net ＋＋ tool. The second part of the paper deals with the development of a mixed integer linear programming models to optimize processing of each line configuration. Optimal manufacturing plans of the studied system with cyclic processing sequences are defined and the feasibility of optimal cyclic scheduling of each configuration is proved.

Reconstituted wood panels have several advantages in terms of ease of manufacturing,but their shorter life span results in a huge amount of reconstituted wood panels being discarded in sorting centers ***,the most common approach for dealing with this waste is *** this study,reconstituted wood panels were converted into activated biochar through a two-step thermochemical process:(i)biochar production using pilot scale fast pyrolysis at 250 kg/h and 450℃;and(ii)a physical activation at three temperatures(750℃,850℃ and 950℃)using an in-house activation furnace(1 kg/h).Results showed that the first stage removed about 66% of the nitrogen from the wood panels in the form of NO,NH3,and trimethylamine,which were detected in small amounts compared to emitted CO_(2).Compared to other types of thermochemical conversion methods(e.g.,slow pyrolysis),isocyanic acid and hydrogen cyanide were not detected in this *** second stage produced activated biochar with a specific surface area of up to 865 m^(2)/g at 950℃.The volatile gases generated during activation were predominantly composed of toluene and *** two-step process resulted in nitrogen-rich carbon in the form of pyrrolic and pyridinic *** biochars were then evaluated for their SO_(2) retention performance and showed an excellent adsorption capacity of up to 2140 mg/g compared to 65 mg/g for a commercial activated carbon(889 m^(2)/g).End-of-life reconstituted wood panels and SO_(2) gas are problematic issues in Canada where the economy largely revolves around forestry and mining industries.

Primary Open Angle Glaucoma: Epidemiological, Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects of 63 Cases at National Hospital Center in Mauritania

Introduction: Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is an anterior optic neuropathy of chronic and progressive course, characterized by perimeter alteration and excavation of the specific optic disc. This neuropathy is usually accompanied by ocular hypertonia. The iridocorneal angle remains open in gonioscopy. POAG is the primary cause of irreversible blindness in adults around the world, posing a real public health and quality of life problem as well as an economic problem. The progressive and irreversible loss of vision makes POAG a disease that can lead to blindness. The main objective of our study is to describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of primary open angle glaucoma in the ophthalmology department of the National Hospital Center of Nouakchott. Materials and Methods: It was a prospective descriptive study of 6 months (March 1st 2017 to August 30th 2017), on patients with a POAG with the presence of at least one of the three signs (intraocular pressure > 21 mmHg, papillary cup/disc vertical excavation ≥ 0.5 and a field altered apart from all other causes). All glaucoma patients seen during the study period benefited from a complete eye examination. The studied variables were the family history of glaucoma, age, intra ocular pressure (IOP) and pachymeter. Results: The mean age was 58.7 years. About 2/3 of the patients had a lower pachymeter to normal (63% of cases), a genetically thinner cornea results in an underestimation of the IOP measurement. The male was the most represented with a sex ratio M/F (1.42), the main characteristic factors were family history of glaucoma (39.7%), artery hypertension, diabetic and headache. The success rate of surgery was 69.8%, while 11% of our patients had refused any kind of treatment, no complications were noted, Conclusion: POAG is a multifactorial condition which can lead to blindness if not early diagnosed or

The aim of this brief paper is to give several results concerning the regional controllability of distributed systems governed by semi-linear parabolic equations. We concentrate on the determination of a control achieving internal and boundary regional controllability. The approach is based on an extension of the Hilbert Uniqueness Method (HUM) and Schauder’s fixed point theorem. We give a numerical example developed in internal and boundary sub region. These numerical illustrations show the efficiency of the approach and lead to conjectures.

Organic Carbon (OC) and Organic Matter (OM) in Sediments Collected from Two Wetlands in Central Bida Basin, Nigeria

An improvised auger sediment sampler was used to collect sediments at shallow depths from two wetlands in the Northern Bida Basin for laboratory studies in order to ascertain the impact on the chemical quality of groundwater within these two studied locations. The dissolved organic carbon content of water is an important component of the geochemical cycling of elements capable of affecting groundwater quality. The sediments which serve as a conduit and pathways for the elements’ transport depending on the characteristics of the particle sizes are to be considered in the evaluation of contaminant mobility within the pathways. Representative cored sediment samples were collected and their particle size characterization and chemical analysis for Organic Matter (OM), Organic Carbon (OC) and Moisture Content (MC) were carried out. The hydrometer results show that the sediment particle sizes are in the order of sand > clay > silt in both locations with few exceptions. This represents the geology of the area (sandstone). The Mean values of 1.14% and 1.98% of OC and OM respectively were recorded in the sediment samples collected in parts of Ebgako. In contrast, 1.72% and 2.97% mean values were recorded in sediments collected in part of Bida for OC and OM respectively. The values of the OC and OM in the sediments from the two wetlands are low and may have been dissolved along the groundwater pathways to the aquifer. Other physicochemical parameters analysed in the sediments showed poor correlation. OM and OC were strongly positively correlated and showed an R2 value of 1 and 0.9 respectively for parts of the Bida and Egbako sheets. There is low acidity of the sediments from the two study locations with a mean pH value of 5.64 and 5.13 respectively for Egbako and Bida. Analytical Modeling and Determination of the Characteristic Parameters of the Different Commercial Technologies of Photovoltaic Modules

This work presents a method of optimization of the photovoltaic generator (PV) based on the electrical model with a diode. The method consists of solving a second degree equation representing the derivative of the power function. The current and the maximum voltage being determined, the maximum power is deduced. Four popular types of photovoltaic panels from different manufacturers were considered for the study: BYD Model (BYD 320P6C-36), Atersa Grupo Model (A-320P GSE), SunPower Model (E19-320) and Model operated in the 50 MW power plant of Nouakchott-Mauritania (JKM320PP-72-V) of JinkoSolar. A comparative study is carried out between the simulated results and the data of the manufacturer of different technologies. The results obtained prove the effectiveness of the proposed method and that the BYD 320P6C-36 model is the most efficient among the four different technologies studied.

Fecundity and Distribution of Oocyte diameters of Horse Mackerel Trachurus trachurus from Algerian Western Coast （Oran Bay）

In the present paper, a study of the productivity of oocytes in 402 female individuals of the horse mackerel, Trachurus trachurus for an interval of fork length （LF） between 14 cm and 20 cm, in stage IV （pre-spawning） and V （spawning） was performed to estimate the fecundity rate in Oran Bay （Algerian western coast） since October 2008 to April 2009. Total fecundity （absolute and relative） were calculated using fish length, weight and eviscerated weight of gonads. Absolute fecundity by size class oscillates from 33,375 to 56,391 eggs with an average of 48,686 ±11,470. The relative fecundity ranges from 34,802 to 139,636 eggs per 100 g body weight with an average of 96,955 ± 33,814 and it is varying between 15,544 and 46,561 per gram of gonad with an average of 28,595 ±20,251. The distribution of oocytes shows that stages I and II are presented throughout the spawning season and they constitute a stockpile for subsequent clutches.
