Introduction: Hypercalcemia is the most common metabolic complication in myeloma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the management strategy of hypercalcemia in myeloma at the nephrology department of Louis Pasteur hospital of Chartres. Patients and methods: We carried a retrospective study of patients treated for myeloma-related hypercalcemia between January 1, 2019 to december 31, 2021. The clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic and evolutive characteristics were studied. Results: Eight patients were included in this study with a median age of 67 years [41 - 85] and a sex ratio (m/F) of 1. A quarter of patients were known with chronic kidney disease. Four patients (50%) had symptoms of hypercalcemia. Biologically, the mean hemoglobin was 9.8 ± 2.7 g/dl, all patients had an acute kidney injury with a mean creatinine level of 364.1 ± 173.3 mmol/l, a mean serum calcium of 3.42 ± 0.59 mmol/l and three quarter of patients had bone lesions. Five patients (62.5%) were rehydrated with a mean volume of saline of 2700 ± 836.7 ml/24h. Seven patients (87.5%) received biphosphonates and none received diuretics. The mean normalization time of the serum calcium was 5 days. Conclusion: Hypercalcemia is frequent in malignancy and represents a poor prognosis factor of the disease. A well-conducted therapeutic strategy allows rapid normalization.

This paper deals with robust direct power control of a grid-connected bmshless doubly-fed induction generator（BdFIG）. Using a nonlinear feedback lineariza- tion strategy, an attempt is made to improve the desired performances by controlling the generated stator active and reactive power in a linear and decoupled manner. There- fore, to achieve this objective, the Lyapunov approach is used associated with a sliding mode control to guarantee the global asymptotical stability. Thus, an optimal operation of the BdFIG in sub-synchronous operation is obtained as well as the stator power flows with the possibility of keeping stator power factor at a unity. The proposed method is tested with the matlab/Simulink software. Simulation results illustrate the performances and the feasibility of the designed control.

We investigate the characteristics of electromagnetic wave reflection and transmission by multilayered structures consisting of a pair of left-handed material (LHm) and dielectric slabs inserted between two semi-infinite dielectric media. The theoretical aspect is based on maxwell's equations and matching the boundary conditions for the electric and magnetic fields of the incident waves at each layer interface. We calculate the reflected and transmitted powers of the multilayered structure taking into account the widths of the slabs and the frequency dependence of permittivity and permeability of the LHm. The obtained results satisfy the law of conservation of energy. We show that if the semi-infinite dielectric media have the same refractive index and the slabs have the same width, then the reflected (and transmitted) powers can be minimized (and maximized) and the powers-frequency curves show no ripple. On the other hand if the semi-infinite dielectric media have different values of refractive indices and the slabs have different widths, then under certain conditions the situation of minimum and maximum values of the mentioned powers will be reversed.

Rigorous coupled-wave analysis has been used to design a glazing for hot climates. The designed glazing is relatively simple and it transmits most of the visible light and reflects most of the infrared radiation. It does not need any external source of energy to control its optical properties. It consists of ITO and four periodic pairs of Si/SiO2, deposited on a glass sheet. The optimum thicknesses of ITO, Si and SiO2 are 0.1 μm, 0.15 and 0.4 μm, respectively. The glazing acts as an optically selective filter. It transmits about 80% of the visible light and reflects almost all the infrared radiation. The performance of the glazing is almost independent of the angle of incidence of solar radiation. This makes it suitable for all hours of the day. The fabrication of the glazing and the testing have been performed at the laboratories of the Faculty of Science, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. magnetron sputtering technique has been used for the fabrication. ITO, Si and SiO2 have been used as sputtering targets. The experimental results are almost identical to the simulation results.

In this paper, a one-dimensional multilayer is optimized for potential applications as thermophotovoltaic (TPV) selective emitter. The proposed TPV emitter was fabricated through a magnetron sputtering process by using the radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering system. The spectral emittance of the proposed TPV emitter is measured by using spectral transmittance and reflectance measurement system at wavelength from 0.3 μm to 2.5 μm at near-normal incident 8。. The bidirectional reflectance distribution function BRdF is measured by three axis automated scatterometer (TAAS). The effect of the diffraction orders and plane of incidence on the spectral emittance of the proposed TPV emitter is calculated numerically by using the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA). The emittance spectrum of the proposed TPV selective emitter shows three close to unity emission peaks which are explained by the surface plasmon polariton (SPP), gap plasmon polariton (GPP) and magnetic polariton (mP) excitation. The results show that the proposed emitter has high emittance value in the spectral range of 0.69 emitter, if used as a selective emitter with a low band gap photovoltaic cell (GaSb), would lead to high TPV overall efficiency and high electrical output power.

The effect of IB element additions [Ag] on the corrosion behavior of AlZn alloy has been investigated. The potentiodynamic polarization curves revealed that the corrosion behavior of SSAl, SSZn and AgZn3 phases was significantly influenced by IB element content. The electrochemical investigations showed that the corrosion rate increased with the IB-element additions. Furthermore, it was also evidenced the formation of a passive layer for the highest Ag content alloys;the passivity of this layer could be broken due to the presence of the intermetallic compound (ImCs) AgZn3.

Background: There is great interest in developing blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (Ad);however, there is no consensus as to what blood fraction is most appropriate for analyzing particular markers. The current study provides empirical evidence regarding how blood-based proteins vary depending on whether they are assayed in serum or plasma. methods: Weanalyzed concentrations of 100 proteins in matched samples of serum and plasma from 39 Caucasian Ad participants from the Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium bymultiplex immunoassay. Results: Concentrations of 40 proteins were highly correlated (r2≥ 0.75) between plasma and serum while the remaining proteins were moderately to weakly correlated (r2discussion: Whether plasma vs. serum is assayed can have a large impact on the observed concentration of some proteins, including several proteins that are of great interest to Ad pathophysiology. The current findings may explain the significant discrepancies often times reported in the Ad biomarker field.
