Scalar optical hopfions weaved by nested equiphase lines in the shape of a toroidal vortex are theoretically designed and experimentally demonstrated.This category of hopfions manifesting as a spatiotemporally structured pulse propagating in space-time may enable encoding and transferring optical topological information in an additional(temporal)dimension.

Acute kidney injury(AKI),commonly occurring as complications of sepsis,cardiac surgery,and liver or kidney transplantation,is a critical care syndrome.It is well known that lipopolysaccharide(LPS)shock is a common triggering factor for AKI.This study is aimed to examine the effect of flavonoid compound hispidulin on LPS-induced AKI.For this,renal tubular epithelial cell HK-2 was treated with LPS to establish an in vitro model of AKI.The effect of hispidulin on HK-2 cell viability was examined using CCK-8 assay.Cell apoptosis was determined by TUNEL and flow cytometry.Apoptosis marker proteins were determined by using western blot.The levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines were determined by ELISA assay and qRT-PCR.The translocation of NF-κB was determined by western blot.The effect of MyD88 on the cytoprotective activities of hispidulin was examined by overexpressing MyD88 in HK-2 cells.Our results showed that hispidulin was not able to produce a cytotoxic effect on HK-2 cells at tested concentrations.However,hispidulin could protect HK-2 cells from LPS-induced cell injury.Our results also showed that hispidulin was able to attenuate LPS-induced HK-2 cell apoptosis.In addition,LPS led to an inflammatory response in HK-2 cells,evidenced by NF-κB p65 activation as well as increased expression and release of inflammatory cytokine IL-6 and TNF-α,which could be reversed by pretreatment with hispidulin.Overexpression MyD88 was found to significantly dampen the cytoprotective activities of hispidulin against LPS insult.More importantly,MyD88 was identified as a direct target of hsa-miR-203,and hispidulin was found to regulate the expression of MyD88 via upregulating hsa-miR-203.Our results showed that hispidulin attenuates LPS-induced HK-2 damage via regulating hsa-miR-203/MyD88 axis.

A series of novel chitosan-based magnetic flocculants FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC)was prepared by molecular structure control.The characterization results showed that FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC)had a uniform size of about 21.46 nm,featuring a typical core-shell structure,and the average coating layer thickness of CTS-P(AM-DMC)was about 5.03 nm.FS@CTS-P(AM-DMC)exhibited excellent flocculation performance for kaolin suspension,achieved 92.54% turbidity removal efficiency under dosage of 150 mg/L,pH 7.0,even at high turbidity(2000 NTU)with a removal efficiency of 96.96%.The flocculation mechanism was revealed to be dominated by charge neutralization under acidic and neutral conditions,while adsorption and bridging effects play an important role in alkaline environments.The properties of magnetic aggregates during flocculation,breakage,and regeneration were studied at different pH levels and dosages.In the process of magnetophoretic,magnetic particles collide and adsorb with kaolin particles continuously due to magnetic and electrostatic attraction,transform into magnetic chain clusters,and then further form three-dimensional network magnetic aggregates that can capture free kaolin particles and other chain clusters.Particle image velocimetry confirmed the formation of eddy current of magnetic flocs and experienced three stages:acceleration,stabilization,and deceleration.

Series of azobenzene-bridged pillar[5]arene-based [3]rotaxanes with different alkyl chain length of guest molecules were constructed by threading-endcapping method with alkylenetriazole as axile and tetrahydrochromene as endcapping group.The encapsulation of pillar[5]arenes were proved by highresolution mass,^(1) H NMR and NOESY spectra.The photo-responsive property were examined by irradiation of the synthesized [3]rotaxanes with 365 nm and blue light LED,which caused trans to cis and cis to trans isomerization,respectively.Irradiation of corresponding model guest compounds without pillar[5]arene encapsulation resulted in near completely trans to cis and cis to trans isomerization,indicating the existence of pillar[5]arenes is the determining factor for the comprised photo isomerization efficiency.

The aperture of natural rock fractures significantly affects the deformation and strength properties of rock masses,as well as the hydrodynamic properties of fractured rock masses.The conventional measurement methods are inadequate for collecting data on high-steep rock slopes in complex mountainous regions.This study establishes a high-resolution three-dimensional model of a rock slope using unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)multi-angle nap-of-the-object photogrammetry to obtain edge feature points of fractures.Fracture opening morphology is characterized using coordinate projection and transformation.Fracture central axis is determined using vertical measuring lines,allowing for the interpretation of aperture of adaptive fracture shape.The feasibility and reliability of the new method are verified at a construction site of a railway in southeast Tibet,China.The study shows that the fracture aperture has a significant interval effect and size effect.The optimal sampling length for fractures is approximately 0.5e1 m,and the optimal aperture interpretation results can be achieved when the measuring line spacing is 1%of the sampling length.Tensile fractures in the study area generally have larger apertures than shear fractures,and their tendency to increase with slope height is also greater than that of shear fractures.The aperture of tensile fractures is generally positively correlated with their trace length,while the correlation between the aperture of shear fractures and their trace length appears to be weak.Fractures of different orientations exhibit certain differences in their distribution of aperture,but generally follow the forms of normal,log-normal,and gamma distributions.This study provides essential data support for rock and slope stability evaluation,which is of significant practical importance.

It has always been difficult to achieve accurate information of the channel for underwater acoustic communications because of the severe underwater propagation conditions,including frequency-selective property,high relative mobility,long propagation latency,and intensive ambient noise,etc.To this end,a deep unfolding neural network based approach is proposed,in which multiple layers of the network mimic the iterations of the classical iterative sparse approximation algorithm to extract the inherent sparse features of the channel by exploiting deep learning,and a scheme based on the Sparsity-Aware DNN(SA-DNN)for UAC estimation is proposed to improve the estimation accuracy.Moreover,we propose a Denoising Sparsity-Aware DNN(DeSA-DNN)based enhanced method that integrates a denoising CNN module in the sparsity-aware deep network,so that the degradation brought by intensive ambient noise could be eliminated and the estimation accuracy can be further improved.Simulation results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed schemes is superior to the state-of-the-art compressed sensing based and iterative sparse recovery schems in the aspects of channel recovery precision,pilot overhead,and robustness,particularly under unideal circumstances of intensive ambient noise or inadequate measurement pilots.

Dear Editor.Type 2 diabetes has become a global epidemic.It is a disease characterized by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency,resulting in hyperglycemia and various physiological and metabolic abnormalities.Besides genetic risk factors,inappropriate life styles,such as lack of physical activity and imbalanced diet,also contribute to the development of type 2diabetes in human(Jia et al.,2019).Animal models of type 2diabetes are of great value to understand its underlying mechanisms as well as to develop and evaluate potential diagnostic and therapeutic options(Kleinert et al.,2018).

Objective:This study aimed to identify a model for short-term coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)trend prediction and intervention evaluation.Methods:We compared the autoregressive integrated moving average(ARIMA)model and Holt exponential smoothing(Holt)model on predicting the number of cumulative COVID-19 cases in China.Based on the mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)value,the optimal model was selected and further tested using data from the United States,Italy and Republic of Korea.The intervention effect starting time points and abnormal trend changes were detected by observing the pattern of differences between the predicted and real trends.Results:The recalibrated ARIMA model with a 5-day prediction time span has the best model performance with MAPEs ranged between 2%and 5%.The intervention effects started to show on February 7 in the mainland of China,March 5 in Republic of Korea and April 27 in Italy,but have not been detected in the US as of May 19.Temporary abnormal trends were detected in Korea and Italy,but the overall epidemic trends were stable since the effect starting points.Conclusion:The recalibrated ARIMA model can detect the intervention effects starting points and abnormal trend changes;thus to provide valuable information support for epidemic trend analysis and intervention evaluation.
