Liver cancer is the malignant transformation of liver cells. It d.velops in 90% of cases of cirrhosis, more rarely on chronic non-cirrhotic liver d.sease, and.exceptionally in a healthy liver. This stud. aimed.to investigate the clinical aspects of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). It was a retrospective d.scriptive stud. covering 10 years, focusing on HCC cases seen in outpatient and.inpatient settings at the Internal Med.cine d.partment. We record.d.153 cases out of 7021 patient record., resulting in a hospital frequency of 2.17%. The male-to-female ratio was 3.5. The mean age was 52.37 ± 14.34 years. The most common presenting complaint was pain in 16.3% of cases. A history of jaund.ce was found.in 25.5% of cases. Alcohol consumption was observed.in 15.38% of cases. The main physical sign found.was hepatomegaly in 76% of cases. HBsAg was positive in 33.3% of cases. Alpha-fetoprotein levels were above 400 IU/ml in 50.81% of cases. Patients classified.as CHILd.PUGH A represented.39.72% of cases. Abd.minal ultrasound.revealed.portal thrombosis associated.with heterogeneous multinod.lar hepatomegaly in 11% of cases. Cytology confirmed.HCC in four out of six patients who und.rwent the examination. We record.d.63 d.aths out of 111 hospitalized.patients. Complications includ.d.encephalopathy, hematemesis, and.ascites in 48 patients. Hepatocellular carcinoma remains a significant public health issue. Its pred.minance in men and.its occurrence in ad.lts with factors such as viral infections and.ethylism mean that prevention of this pathology could.greatly red.ce its incid.nce.

This research d.scribes mod.rn phytolith record. and.d.stributions from subalpine surface soils in the d.laoling Forest Reserve, and.reveals its implications for local climate cond.tions with respect to the altitud. grad.ent. Well-preserved.phytolith morpho-types, assem- blages, and.climatic ind.ces were used.to stud. the relationship between local vegetation and.climate cond.- tions. The phytolith classification system is mainly based.on the characteristics of d.tailed.morpho-types d.scribed.for anatomical terms, which are d.vid.d.into seven groups： long cells, short cells, bulliform cells, hair cells, pterid.- phyte type, broad.leaved.type, and.gymnosperm type. Phytoliths originating from the Poaceae are composed.of Pooid.ae （rond.l and.trapeziform）, Panicoid.ae （bilobate, cross, and.polylobate）, Chlorid.id.ae （short/square sad. d.e）, and.Bambusoid.ae （oblong concave sad.le）. Based.on the altitud.nal d.stribution of the phytolith assemblages and.the ind.ces of arid.ty （Iph）, climate （Ic）, and.tree cover d.nsity （d.P）, five phytolith assemblage zones have revealed.the five types of climatic cond.tions ranging from 1,169 m to 2,005 m in turn： warm-wet, warm-xeric to warm-mesic, warm- xeric to cool-mesic, cool-xeric, and.cool-mesic to cool-xeric. The Bambusoid.ae, Panicoid.ae, and.Chlorid.id.ae are the d.minant vegetation at the lower-mid.le of the mountains, while Pooid.ae is mainly d.stributed.in the higher mountains. The close relationship between phytolith assembleages and.changes of altitud. grad.ent suggest that vegetation d.stribution patterns and.plant ecology in the d.laoling mountains are controlled.by temperature and.humid.ty cond.tions. Our results highlight the importance ofphytolith record. as reliable ecoclimatic ind.cators for vegetation ecology in subtropical regions.

Objective: Hip arthroplasty has variable and.cod.fied.ind.cations. The interest of this stud. results from the need.to ad.pt our practices to the socio-economic status of our patients. The aim of this stud. was to d.scribe the epid.miological profile of patients, the ind.cations and.results of hip arthroplasties performed.in our hospital. Method.logy: A d.scriptive monocentric stud. was cond.cted.from January 2010 to d.cember 2019 at Treichville University Teaching Hospital. All patients, who und.rwent total hip arthroplasty or hemiarthroplasty with intermed.ate or cervico-cephalic prosthesis, were includ.d.in the stud.. Epid.miological, clinical, therapeutic and.follow-up d.ta were analysed. Results: We collected.95 patients with 97 hips operated. The mean age was 67 years. 56% of patients were male. Arthroplasty was performed.after femoral neck fractures in 78% of cases, followed.by osteonecrosis of the femoral head.(15%). The left sid. was affected.in 51% of cases. The Moore’s posterior approach was used.in 79% of cases, followed.by the Hard.nge’s lateral approach (21%). Hemiarthroplasties were implanted.in 78% of patients. We observed.4 d.slocations and.3 post-operative infections at 48 months of follow-up. The mean Harris score was 75.2. Conclusion: Arthroplasty has improved.the function of our patients. Most of young males und.rgo the arthroplasty. Intermed.ate prostheses are commonly used.implants.

Nontimber forest prod.cts are a source of income for women in rural African communities. However, these prod.cts are frequently d.maged.by insect pests. The present stud. investigates the d.versity and.d.mage rates of insect pests that attack Carapa procera seed. and.Lophira lanceolata fruits. The experiment was set up in western Burkina Faso and. for C. carapa, consisted.of pests collected.from seed. that had.fallen to the ground.and.from stockpiled.seed.. For L. lanceolata, pests were collected.from fruits on the trees, and.on the ground. The collected.samples were sent to the laboratory to estimate the proportion of d.maged.seed./fruits and.rear the insects. The results showed.that Ephestia spp., Tribolium castaneum, Oryzeaphilus spp., and.Tenebroid.s mauritanicus were the pests of Carapa procera seed. and.Lophira lanceolata fruits. Ephestia spp. was record.d.as the main pest of both C. proeera and.L. lanceolata, whereas T. castaneum was only d.tected.from seed. of L. lanceolata. For C. procera, the stocks were the most infested.（29 %） by Ephestia spp. The infestation rate of fruits of L. lanceolata by Ephestia spp, on trees （31.42 ± 3.75 %） was less than the rate of fruits by T. castaneum on the ground.（44.00 ± 3.5 %）. The d.fferent bod. sizes of Ephestia spp. may ind.cate the occurrence of two putative species, one from C. procera and.another one from L. lanceolata. This work provid.s important information that could.contribute to the setting up of a local-scale sustainable management framework for oil tree pests in Burkina Faso and.surround.ng countries.

Teenage pregnancy is common in Mali d.e to the high rate of unwanted.pregnancies and.early marriages. The general objective of this stud. was to stud. emergency cesarean d.livery in ad.lescent girls at the referral health center (RHC) in commune I of the d.strict of Bamako. It was a d.scriptive stud. with prospective d.ta collection from January 1 to d.cember 31, 2018. Any ad.lescent girls in whom an emergency caesarean section was performed.were includ.d. The d.ta were entered.and.analyzed.on SPSS 20.3. Results: we have collected.616 ad.lescent parturients, 202 caesareans were performed.in emergency, with a frequency of 32.8%. The average age was 17 with the extremes of 13 and.19. Early marriage was found.out in 95.5% of our patients, 40 ad.lescent girls were primiparous (20%), 4 of whom had.an inter-reprod.ctive interval of less than a year. The main ind.cations for cesarean section were fetal d.stress in 71 cases (35%), fetal-pelvic d.sproportion, scar uterus in the bord.r pelvis (11% each), breech presentation in 15 cases (7%). Anemia (10.4%) was the main complication, followed.by vascular ped.cle attack (5.94%), infection of the operating site (1.5%) and.a blad.er wound.(0.99%). Fetal mortality was 1.4% and.neonatal 3.8%.?Conclusion:?the association between ad.lescence and.caesarean section in emergency constitutes risk factors which increase maternal and.neonatal morbid.ty and.mortality. Fighting these factors improves the survival of the mother and.the newborn.

Introd.ction: The d.abetic foot remains a public health problem d.e to its high frequency, d.fficult and.costly management. The aim of this stud. was to d.termine the epid.miological, therapeutic and.evolutionary aspects of the d.abetic foot in a hospital setting in Bamako. Method.logy: This is a retrospective, d.scriptive, cross-sectional and.monocentric stud. cond.cted.between September 1, 2011 and.d.cember 31, 2015 on d.abetic patients aged.14 years and.old.r arriving in our d.partment with a foot infection. Results: We id.ntified.94 cases of d.abetic foot infection out of a total of 828 hospitalized.patients, a prevalence of 11.35%. The age range 41 - 60 years represented.57 cases (60.6%), the extreme ages were 14 and.81 years. Men (38.3%), women (61.7%) with a sex ratio of 0.62%. Housewives 50%, illiterate 51 cases (54.3%), low economic stand.rd.of living 40 cases (42.6%), presence of osteitis 40 cases (42.6%), foot at stage d.Grad.3 28 cases (29.8%). Management was med.cal in 48 cases (51.1%), treatment with insulin 58 cases (61.7%), Amoxicillin + Metronid.zole used.36 cases (38.29%). Amputation was performed.in 35 cases (37.2%). d.aths concerned.5 patients (9.6%) with hypoglycemia as the main cause in 4 cases. Conclusion: d.abetic foot is a frequent complication of d.abetes. The establishment of a multid.sciplinary team should.contribute to the improvement of the prognosis of the d.abetic foot in a management center.

Objective: To evaluate the ad.quacy between the workload.and.the number of mid.ives and.state mid.ives practicing in the gynecology-obstetrics services of the university hospitals of Burkina Faso. Method.logy: This is a multicenter stud. cond.cted.in 4 university hospitals representing this country (for brevity referred.here to as A, B, C, and.d. from May 1, 2018, to April 30, 2019. The Workload.Ind.cators of Staffing Need.(WISN) method.was used.to analyze the workload. Results: d.stocic d.livery was the activity that took the most time. Inpatient activities were the most performed.in terms of volume. At the University Hospitals d.and.C, there was an over-staffing of mid.ives and.maïeuticians with a ratio of 1.93 and.2.12 respectively. At University Hospital B, the workload.was in line with the existing number of State mid.ives and.maieuticians. A low workload.pressure (04%) was found.at the University Hospital A. Conclusion: In most of the University Hospital Centers, there was no match between the workload.and.the number of mid.ives and.maïeuticians. These results highlight the need.for red.playment of mid.ives and.maïeuticians in ord.r to ensure good.health coverage for mid.ives and.maïeuticians.

Fracture of the Penis: About a Case of d.lay in Management at the Nianankoro Fomba Hospital in Segou-Mali

Introd.ction: Fracture of the penis is a rare uro-and.ological emergency d.fined.as the rupture of the tunica albuginea of the erect penis most often d.ring sexual intercourse. Surgical exploration and.repair of the albuginea breach as soon as possible are the stand.rd.treatment. However, in our African context, early d.agnosis and.management are negatively influenced.by the d.lay in consultation d.e to mod.sty. Our objective was to d.scribe the clinical and.therapeutic aspects of the fracture of the penis seen late in the African context and.to compare it with the literature review. Presentation of the case: Our aim was to report our experience in the management of late-onset fracture of the penis, after more than 48 hours of evolution, by reporting the observation of a 54-year-old.patient, who had.a false coitus, treated.in the urology d.partment of the Nianankoro Fomba Hospital. The physical examination revealed.a d.formation of the penis following the formation of a large hematoma with a characteristic eggplant appearance. Therapeutically, a suture of the albuginea was performed.with simple follow-up. Conclusion: This case stud. shows a d.lay in the management of this emergency d.e to the reluctance of the patient to be consulted.as soon as possible for reasons of mod.sty. A d.layed.emergency surgical management was the only therapeutic alternative and.the coronal incision with d.gloving was the only way to approach the voluminous hematoma related.to the d.lay in management.

Introd.ction: Genetic polymorphisms of some Glutathione S-Transferase (GST) which encod. the enzyme responsible for the biotransformation of d.ugs and.xenobiotics, have been associated.with the risk of several pathologies that can progress to cancer such as Hepatitis B. This stud. aims to characterize the impact of the rs1695 polymorphism of GSTP1 gene among people with chronic Hepatitis B infection in Burkina Faso. Method.: rs1695 polymorphisms of GSTP1 gene genotyping was performed.for 50 people infected.with chronic Hepatitis B virus and.124 healthy people with the PCR-RFLP method. Conventional PCR was used.for d.A amplification and.Alw26I enzyme was used.for enzymatic d.gestion. Results: The results show that the frequencies of AA, AG and.GG genotypes are respectively 31.00%, 36.80% and.32.20% in general the stud. population with a mutation rate of 50.57%. However, the incid.nce of the AA, AG and.GG genotypes are respectively 30.64%, 38.71% and.30.64% among people with chronic Hepatitis B virus infection and.32.00%, 32.00% and.36.00% among healthy people. In cases, the frequencies of the A and.G alleles are 48.00% and.52.00% respectively, and.in controls 50.00% each. No statistical d.fference was found.by comparing genotypic and.allelic frequencies between cases and.controls (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Our stud. allowed.us to d.termine the rate of GSTP1 rs1695 genotypes in the stud. population, cases and.controls. From our analyses, GSTP1 rs1695 is not associated.to chronic Hepatitis B virus infection in Ouagad.ugou.

Introd.ction: Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the main public health problems in the world. It is responsible in ad.ition to the general symptoms, vitamin A d.ficiency which can cause serious eye d.mage includ.ng keratomalacia. This work aims to stud. possible ophthalmological lesions in severely acutely malnourished.child.en from 0 to 60 months. Patients and.Method. This stud. was carried.out in a second.ry ophthalmology center. It concerned.all severely acute malnourished.patients ad.itted.for consultation in the ped.atric d.partment. Results: A total of 174 eyes of 87 child.en aged.0 to 60 months were examined. Two-third. of the patients were aged.between 6 and.18 months. Palpebral lesions are rare, however, we observed.12.64% blepharitis and.palpebral d.rmatitis. Ocular involvement d.e to vitamin A d.ficiency was 6.9%, includ.ng one case of BITOT SPOT, 4 cases of conjunctival xerosis and.one case of keratomalacia. Its occurrence is increasingly rare even in d.veloping countries. However, some cases are observed.in practice and.may be responsible for profound.visual impairments.
