Lipoma within an inverted Meckel's diverticulum presen- ting with hemorrhage and partial intestinal obstruction is an exceptional clinical entity. We report a case of 47-year-old male with a history of recurrent episodes of partial intestinal obstruction and melena due to a subserosal lipoma located in the base of an inverted Meckel's diverticulum. According to our knowledge, this is the first case of a lipoma within a Meckel's diverticulum giving rise to this clinical scenario without the existence of heterotrophic gastric or pancreatic tissues.

A cellular automata model is proposed to simulate bi-directional pedestrian flow. Pedestrian movement is investigated by using ant algorithms. Ants communicate with each other by dropping a chemical, called a pheromone, on the substrate while crawling forward. Similarly, it is considered that oppositely moving pedestrians drop ＇visual pheromones＇ on their way and the visual pheromones might cause attractive or repulsive interactions. This pheromenon is introduced into mod- elling the pedestrians＇ walking preference. In this way, the decision-making process of pedestrians will be based on ＇the instinct of following＇. At some densities, the relationships of velocity-density and flux-density are analyzed for different evaporation rates of visual pheromones. Lane formation and phase transition are observed for certain evaporation rates of visual pheromones.

AIM： To evaluate the effect of propolis administration on the healing of colon anastomosis with light and transmission electron microscopes. METHODS： Forty-eight Wistar-AIbino female rats were divided into two groups and had colon resection and anastomosis. In group Ⅰ, rats were fed with standard rat chow pre- and postoperatively. The rats in group Ⅱ were fed with standard rat chow and began receiving oral supplementation of propolis 100 mg/kg per day beginning 7 d before the operation and continued until they were sacrificed. Rats were sacrificed 1, 3, 7 and 14 d after operation, and anastomotic bursting pressures measured. After the resection of anastomotic segments, histopathological examination was performed with light and transmission electron microscopes by two blinded histologists and photographed. RESULTS： The colonic bursting pressures of the propolis group were statistically significantly better than the control group. UItrastructural histopathological analysis of the colon anastomosis revealed that propotis accelerated the phases of the healing process and stimulated mature granulation tissue formation and collagen synthesis of fibroblasts. CONCLUSION： Bursting pressure measurements and ultra structural histopathological evaluation showed that administration of propolis accelerated the healing of colon anastomosis following surgical excision.

Background:Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP)increases the risk of adverse pregnancy *** study aimed to explore the association between serum syndecan-1 and glypican-3 levels and the adverse perinatal outcome as well as the responses to the treatment of ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA).Methods:This prospective,case control study included 88 pregnant women(44 women with ICP and 44 healthy controls).The primary end points were the perinatal outcome and the response to UDCA therapy.A logistic regression model was used to identify the independent risk factors of adverse pregnancy outcomes and reduced response to UDCA ***:Women with ICP had significantly higher serum syndecan-1(1.27±0.36 ng/m L vs.0.98±0.50 ng/m L;P=0.003),glypican-3(1.78±0.13 ng/m L vs.1.69±0.16 ng/m L;P=0.004),AST(128.59±1.44 vs.13.29±1.32 U/L;P<0.001),and ALT(129.84±1.53 vs.8.00±3.67 U/L;P<0.001)levels compared with the *** increased levels of syndecan-1(OR=4.715,95%CI:1.554–14.310;P=0.006),glypican-3(OR=8.465,95%CI:3.372–21.248;P=0.007),ALT(OR=1.382,95%CI:1.131–1.690;P=0.002),and postprandial bile acid(PBA)(OR=3.392,95%CI:1.003–12.869;P=0.026)were correlated to *** adverse neonatal outcome was related to increased glypican-3(OR=4.275,95%CI:2.726–5.635;P=0.039),and PBA(OR=3.026,95%CI:1.069–13.569;P=0.037).Increases of syndecan-1(OR=7.464,95%CI:2.130–26.153,P=0.017)and glypican-3(OR=6.194,95%CI:2.951–13.002;P=0.025)were the risk factors of decreased response to UDCA ***:Syndecan-1 and glypican-3 might be powerful determinants in predicting adverse perinatal outcome in patients with ICP,and they can be used to predict the response to the UDCA treatment.

Objective: This study explored the correlations between the use of complementary and integrative therapies(CITs) and symptoms among Turkish patients with familial Mediterranean fever(FMF).Methods: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The study was conducted with 1119 FMF patients who were registered to the social networking site for Behcet’s and the FMF Patients Association(Befemder) in Turkey, between January 2018 and February 2019. Data were collected using an online survey, for which a three-part questionnaire was created using a Google form. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the ***: It was determined that 53.2% of the individuals who participated in the research used various forms of CITs and that 32.8% used vitamin and mineral supplements(calcium, iron, and vitamin B12, C and D), 25.0% used nutritional supplements(fish oil and honey), and 24.6% used oral herbs(ginger, turmeric, green tea and rosemary) and mind–body methods(relaxation, respiration exercise and meditation). It was determined that the percentage of participants that used CITs was higher among women(odds ratio [OR] = 1.825;95% confidence interval [CI] 1.421–2.344), those with joint pain(OR = 1.385;95% CI 1.047–1.832), those with difficulty breathing(OR = 1.323;95% CI 1.031–1.697), those with gastrointestinal symptoms(OR = 1.405;95% CI 1.089–1.814) and those who had a family member with FMF(OR = 1.437;95% CI 1.115–1.851).Conclusion: More than half of the individuals used at least one type of CIT for symptom control.

AIM: To investigate the frequency of seropositivity aga- inst CagA, VacA proteins and to determine their indepen- dent effects on the development of duodenal ulcer (DU) in Turkish patients. METHODS: The study was designed as a prospective one from a tertiary referral hospital. Dyspeptic patients who were referred to our endoscopy unit for upper gas- trointestinal endoscopy between June 2003 and March 2004 and diagnosed to have DU or nonulcer dyspepsia (NUD) were included. Biopsies from the antrum and body of the stomach were taken in order to assess the current H pylori status by histology, rapid urease test and culture. Fasting sera were obtained from all patients and H pylori status of all sera was determined by IgG antibo- dies using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELI- SA) kit. All seropositive patients were further analysed using Western blot assays detecting IgG antibodies aga- inst CagA and VacA proteins. The χ2 test was used for statistical comparison of the values and age-sex adjusted multiple regression analysis was used to determine the independent effects of CagA and VacA seropositivities on the development of DU. RESULTS: Sixty-three patients with DU and 62 patients with NUD were eligible for the final analysis. Seropositi- vity for anti-CagA was detected in 51 of 62 (82%), andin 55 of 63 (87%) patients with NUD and DU, respec- tively (p = no significance), and seropositivity for anti- VacA was found in 25 of 62 (40% ) and in 16 of 63 (25%) patients, with NUD and DU, respectively. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that none of the- se virulence factors is associated with the development of DU in the studied Turkish patients with dyspepsia.

Aromatic and medicinal plant species having small seeds haveﬁeld emergence problems due to low nutrient ***,Pimpinella anisum seeds were hydro and osmoprimed with 100 mM MgCl_(2),CaCl_(2),and ZnCl_(2),for 2,4,and 8 h each to compare their growth attributes during germination and seedling establishment *** seeds were used as *** hydro and osmo primed seeds were dried for 48 h before,they were sown in plastic trays in growth room conditions to see the impact of treatments on seedling emergence and *** maximum root length(12.90 cm),fresh weight(256.30 mg plant^(-1)),and mean emergence time(MET)were recorded from 8 h MgCl_(2) primed ***,the maximum(97.50,and 98.00%)emergence percentage was observed using 8 h MgCl_(2) primed seeds and nontreated seeds(control treatment).The evaluation of parameters like chlorophyll contents and electrical conductivity showed the 8 h MgCl_(2) priming as the optimum *** evaluation of parameters like chlorophyll contents and electrical conductivity showed the 8 h MgCl_(2) priming as the optimum *** result suggests MgCl_(2) priming worked synergistically and improved seed-ling growth attributes under greenhouse *** chlorophyll content ranged 25.94–35.69 SPAD *** highest chlorophyll content was obtained from the seedlings obtained from 4 h CaCl_(2) treatment,which were statistically similar to the chlorophyll contents of the seedlings obtained after 8 h MgCl_(2) treatment and nontreated seeds(control treatment).All other treatments showed inhibition in the chlorophyll contents and growth attributes of the *** conclusion,MgCl_(2) osmopriming treatments were signiﬁcantly promotive and better compared to hydro-priming and osmopriming treatments including control treatment in terms of anise seeds germination and emergence.

Outcomes of bowel program in spinal cord injury patients with neurogenic bowel dysfunction

In this study, we aimed to determine gastrointestinal problems associated with neurogenic bowel dysfunction in spinal cord injury patients and to assess the efficacy of bowel program on gastrointestinal problems and the severity of neurogenic bowel dysfunction. Fifty-five spinal cord injury patients were included in this study. A bowel program according to the characteristics of neurogenic bowel dysfunction was performed for each patient. Before and after bowel program, gastrointestinal problems（constipation, difficult intestinal evacuation, incontinence, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, loss of appetite, hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding and gastrointestinal induced autonomic dysreflexia） and bowel evacuation methods（digital stimulation, oral medication, suppositories, abdominal massage, Valsalva maneuver and manual evacuation） were determined. Neurogenic bowel dysfunction score was used to assess the severity of neurogenic bowel dysfunction. At least one gastrointestinal problem was identified in 44（80%） of the 55 patients before bowel program. Constipation（56%, 31/55） and incontinence（42%, 23/55） were the most common gastrointestinal problems. Digital rectal stimulation was the most common method for bowel evacuation, both before（76%, 42/55） and after（73%, 40/55） bowel program. Oral medication, enema and manual evacuation application rates were significantly decreased and constipation, difficult intestinal evacuation, abdominal distention, and abdominal pain rates were significantly reduced after bowel program. In addition, mean neurogenic bowel dysfunction score was decreased after bowel program. An effective bowel program decreases the severity of neurogenic bowel dysfunction and reduces associated gastrointestinal problems in patients with spinal cord injury.

Forty-four *** isolates were collected from symptomatic vascular tissues of okra plants each from a different field in eight provinces located in the eastern Mediterranean and western Anatolia regions of Turkey during ***-nonutilizing(nit)mutants of *** from okra were used to determine heterokaryosis and genetic relatedness among *** isolates from okra plants were grouped into two vegetative compatibility groups(VCGs)(1 and 2)and three subgroups as 1A(13.6%,6/44),2A(20.5%,9/44)and 2B(65.9%,29/44)according to international *** tests were performed on a susceptible local okra(***)landrace in greenhouse *** isolates from VCG1A and VCG2B induced defoliation(D)and partial defoliation(PD)symptoms,*** isolates from VCG2A gave rise to typical leaf chlorosis symptoms without *** obtained data showed that the virulence level of *** isolates from okra was related to their VCG *** okra landraces from diverse geographical origins were screened for resistance to VCG2B and VCG1A of *** results indicated that all landraces were more susceptible to highly virulent VCG1A-D pathotype displaying D or PD symptoms depending on their susceptibility levels with a mean disease severity index of 3.52 than to less virulent VCG2B-PD pathotype of *** displaying PD and ND symptoms with a mean disease severity index of *** differences were observed among the landraces;however,none of them exhibited a level of *** landraces;Çorum,Hatay Has and Sanlıurfa displayed the lowest level of susceptibility or little tolerance to both D and PD ***2B of PD was prevailing in the surveyed areas and VCG1A of D was the most virulent of the VCGs *** of resistant genotypes to Turkish okra germplasm from different sources and breeding new resistant okra cultivars are critical for the sustainability of okra production.
