Hybrid model for muon tomography and quantitative analysis of image quality

Muon tomography is a novel method for the non-destructive imaging of materials based on muon rays,which are highly penetrating in natural background radiation.Currently,the most commonly used imaging methods include muon radiography and muon tomography.A previously studied method known as coinciding muon trajectory density tomography,which utilizes muonic secondary particles,is proposed to image low and medium atomic number(Z)materials.However,scattering tomography is mostly used to image high-Z materials,and coinciding muon trajectory density tomography exhibits a hollow phenomenon in the imaging results owing to the self-absorption effect.To address the shortcomings of the individual imaging methods,hybrid model tomography combining scattering tomography and coinciding muon trajectory density tomography is proposed and verified.In addition,the peak signal-to-noise ratio was introduced to quantitatively analyze the image quality.Different imaging models were simulated using the Geant4 toolkit to confirm the advantages of this innovative method.The simulation results showed that hybrid model tomography can image centimeter-scale materials with low,medium,and high Z simultaneously.For high-Z materials with similar atomic numbers,this method can clearly distinguish those with apparent differences in density.According to the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the analysis,the reconstructed image quality of the new method was significantly higher than that of the individual imaging methods.This study provides a reliable approach to the compatibility of scattering tomography and coinciding muon trajectory density tomography.

The muon radiography imaging technique for high-atomic-number objects(Z)and large-volume objects via muon transmission imaging and muon multiple scattering imaging remains a popular topic in the field of radiation detection imaging.However,few imaging studies have been reported on low and medium Z objects at the centimeter scale.This paper presents an imaging system that consists of three layers of a position-sensitive detector and four plastic scintillation detectors.It acquires data by coincidence detection technique of cosmic-ray muon and its secondary particles.A 3D imaging algorithm based on the density of the coinciding muon trajectory was developed,and 4D imaging that takes the atomic number dimension into account by considering the secondary particle ratio information was achieved.The resultant reconstructed 3D images could distinguish between a series of cubes with 5-mm-side lengths and 2-mm-intervals.If the imaging time is more than 20 days,this method can distinguish intervals with a width of 1 mm.The 4D images can specify target objects with low,medium,and high Z values.

The utilization of the dispersive Fourier transformation approach has enabled comprehensive observation of the birth process of dissipative solitons in fiber lasers.However,there is still a dearth of deep understanding regarding the extinction process of dissipative solitons.In this study,we have utilized a combination of experimental and numerical techniques to thoroughly examine the breathing dynamics of dissipative solitons during the extinction process in an Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser.The results demonstrate that the transient breathing dynamics have a substantial impact on the extinction stage of both steady-state and breathing-state dissipative solitons.The duration of transient breathing exhibits a high degree of sensitivity to variations in pump power.Numerical simulations are utilized to produce analogous breathing dynamics within the framework of a model that integrates equations characterizing the population inversion in a mode-locked laser.These results corroborate the role of Q-switching instability in the onset of breathing oscillations.Furthermore,these findings offer new possibilities for the advancement of various operational frameworks for ultrafast lasers.

The use of fossil fuels results in significant carbon dioxide emissions.Biofuels have been increasingly adopted as sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel to address this environmental issue.Integrating petroleum refineries into biofuel supply chains is an effective approach to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and improving environmental sustainability.In this study,an integrated supply chain optimization framework was established,considering the carbon trade policy.In addition,a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model was developed to optimize the selection of biomass suppliers,construction of pretreatment plants and biorefineries,integration of petroleum refineries,and selection of transportation routes with the objective of minimizing the total annual cost.An example is presented to illustrate the applicability of the model.The optimization results show that integrating petroleum refineries into biofuel supply chains effectively mitigates carbon emissions.Carbon trade policies can have a direct impact on the total annual cost and carbon emissions of the supply chain.

Locally repairable codes（LRCs）, which can recover any symbol of a codeword by reading only a small number of other symbols, have been widely used in real-world distributed storage systems, such as Microsoft Azure Storage and Ceph Storage Cluster. since binary linear LRCs can significantly reduce coding and decoding complexity, constructions of binary LRCs are of particular interest. The aim of this paper is to construct dimensional optimal binary LRCs with disjoint local repair groups. We introduce a method to connect intersection subspaces with binary LRCs and construct dimensional optimal binary linear LRCs with locality 2b（b 3） and minimum distance d 6 by employing intersection subspaces deduced from the direct sum. This method will sufficiently increase the number of possible repair groups of dimensional optimal LRCs, thus efficiently expanding the range of the construction parameters while keeping the largest code rates compared with all known binary linear LRCs with minimum distance d 6 and locality 2b.

BACKGROUND Uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase 1A1(UGT1A1)plays a crucial role in metabolizing and detoxifying endogenous and exogenous substances.However,its contribution to the progression of liver damage remains unclear.AIM To determine the role and mechanism of UGT1A1 in liver damage progression.METHODS We investigated the relationship between UGT1A1 expression and liver injury through clinical research.Additionally,the impact and mechanism of UGT1A1 on the progression of liver injury was analyzed through a mouse model study.RESULTS Patients with UGT1A1 gene mutations showed varying degrees of liver damage,while patients with acute-onchronic liver failure(ACLF)exhibited relatively reduced levels of UGT1A1 protein in the liver as compared to patients with chronic hepatitis.This suggests that low UGT1A1 levels may be associated with the progression of liver damage.In mouse models of liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))and concanavalin A(ConA),the hepatic levels of UGT1A1 protein were found to be increased.In mice with lipopolysaccharide or liver steatosis-mediated liver-injury progression,the hepatic protein levels of UGT1A1 were decreased,which is consistent with the observations in patients with ACLF.UGT1A1 knockout exacerbated CCl_(4)-and ConA-induced liver injury,hepatocyte apoptosis and necroptosis in mice,intensified hepatocyte endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress and oxidative stress,and disrupted lipid metabolism.CONCLUsiON UGT1A1 is upregulated as a compensatory response during liver injury,and interference with this upregulation process may worsen liver injury.UGT1A1 reduces ER stress,oxidative stress,and lipid metabolism disorder,thereby mitigating hepatocyte apoptosis and necroptosis.

BACKGROUND Patients with chronic heart failure(CHF)have a progressive disease that is associated with poor quality of life and high mortality.Many patients experience anxiety and depression(A&D)symptoms,which can further accelerate disease progression.We hypothesized that indicators of myocardial function and inflammatory stress may reflect the severity of A&D symptoms in patients with CHF.Changes in these biomarkers could potentially predict whether A&D symptoms will deteriorate further in these individuals.AIM To measure changes in cardiac and inflammatory markers in patients with CHF to determine A&D severity and predict outcomes.METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 233 patients with CHF treated at the Jingzhou Hospital,Yangtze University between 2018-2022 and grouped them according to Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)scores.We compared clinical data in the no-A&D,mild-A&D,moderate-A&D,and severe-A&D groups,the SAS and SDS scores with the New York Heart Association(NYHA)functional classification,and cardiac markers and inflammatory factors between the no/mild-A&D and moderate/severe-A&D groups.Regression analysis was performed on the markers with Psis factor-alpha(Psignificantly between the A&D groups(P>0.05).In addition,we found that higher NYHA classes were associated with higher the SAS and SDS scores(Psion analysis showed that LVEF,NTproBNP,and IL-6 were independent risk factors for A&D severity(Psingle
