Enhancing comprehension of water vapor on adsorption performance of VOC on porous carbon materials and its application challenge

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) have been proven to cause considerable harm to both the ecological environment and human health. Anthropogenic VOC emissions are primarily generated by the industrial sector. The utilization of porous carbon as an adsorbent has emerged as an effective method for the efficient removal of VOC from industrial sources. However, during the actual production processes, VOC exhaust gases are often mixed with water vapor, which poses challenges for adsorption purification. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the remarkable advancements in various carbon materials in terms of their ability to adsorb both VOC and water vapor. Additionally, it systematically summarizes the influence of surface groups on adsorbents and the molecular properties of VOC on their adsorption by carbon materials. Furthermore, this review introduces the mechanism underlying adsorption-adsorbent interactions and discusses the construction of models for adsorbing water vapor and VOC. The challenges associated with the application of carbon materials for VOC adsorption in humid environments are also addressed. This review aims to offer theoretical and technical guidance for the effective purification of moist VOC waste gases emitted from industrial sources, thereby achieving precise control of VOC emissions.

Stability of water yield in watersheds

The hydrological system of a watershed is intricately influenced by both underlying characteristics and climate *** the variability in water yield is essential for effective water resources management and water security in the context of changing *** this study,we adopted the Budyko framework and leveraged simulations from the CMIP6 model to investigate the compensation effects of climate and underlying characteristics on watershed water *** on Taylor expansion and Budyko framework,we estimated the sensitivity of watershed water yield to climate and underlying characteristics(the first-and second-order partial derivatives).By combining external watershed characteristics(e.g.,water yield ratios and underlying characteristics)with internal sensitivity coefficients,this study further used vine copula and principal component analysis to quantify the stability of watershed water *** findings show:(1)Water-yield changes related to underlying characteristics could be offset by climate-related water-yield changes across all climate zones,maintaining the water yield ratio steady(i.e.,the compensation effects).(2)However,global watersheds will turn more sensitive to underlying characteristics and less sensitive to climate variation in the *** climate-and underlying-related sensitivities increase in watersheds with arid climates.(3)The stability of watershed water yield will gradually diminish in the *** 1901–1950to 2051–2100,the global stability of 280 watersheds drops from 0.054 to 0.021(i.e.,stability index identified by the joint probability).Particularly,the largest change in stability of water yield reaches-0.347±0.18 in arid *** semi-arid,semihumid,and humid regions,the changes are-0.039±0.010,-0.028±0.005,and-0.005±0.002,*** findings provide a reference for the future sustainable water resources development under climate change,highlighting the vulnerability of the water resources in ari

Photocatalytic hydrogen generation from hydrogen storage media is an effective and promising approach for the green hydrogen industry as well as for achieving carbon neutrality ***,the lower photocatalytic efficiency due to the limited light trapping capacity,low electron transfer rate,and severe aggregation of nanoparticles caused by high surface energy seriously restricts their practical ***,we constructed a series of donor–acceptor(D–A)type covalent organic frameworks to confine ultrafine bimetallic Pt-based nanoclusters for photocatalytic hydrogen generation from ammonia borane(AB)*** visible light irradiation at 20℃,PtCo_(2)@covalent organic framework(COF)showed the highest photocatalytic activity with a turnover frequency(TOF)of 486 min−*** and density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the high catalytic activity is mainly attributed to the strong electronic interactions between D–A type COF and ultrafine PtCo_(2)***,the D–A type COF can significantly enhance the light-trapping ability by fine-tuning the electron-acceptor type in the framework,and accelerate the photogenerated electron transfer from D–A type COF to PtCo_(2)nanocluster,which promotes the adsorption and activation of H_(2)O and AB molecules and accelerates hydrogen ***,PtCo_(2)@COF also exhibited ultra-high durability due to the significantly enhanced resistance to nanocluster aggregation caused by the nanopore confinement effect of D–A type *** believe that this work will provide a theoretical guide for the rational design of efficient D–A COFbased catalysts for photocatalysis.

A novel approach towards the selection of regenerators for optimal Stirling engine performance based on energy and exergy analyses

Regenerators play a vital role in enhancing the overall performance of Stirling ***,this paper performed an energy and exergy analysis to elucidate the significance of regenerator characteristics concerning system performance,contributing to the optimal regenerator’s design and *** relationship between regenerator structure,regenerator exergy destruction,and output power,thermal efficiency,and exergy efficiency for Stirling engines was established by integrating the thermal model of Stirling engines with a mathematical model of *** contrast to cross-flow and parallel-flow regenerators,a novel concept of inclined-flow regenerators,featuring a matrix surface inclined in the direction of gas flow,was developed to achieve higher and more balanced engine output power and energy utilization efficiency.A comprehensive investigation was conducted into the effects of matrix structure types and regenerator geometries on the performance of both regenerators and *** results reveal that,following structural optimization,Stirling engines equipped with the inclined-flow regenerator demonstrate a substantial 16.6%,38.3%,and 37.2%increase in power output,thermal efficiency,and exergy efficiency,respectively,compared to those equipped with cross-flow *** contrast,when compared to engines fitted with parallel-flow regenerators,they experience a 13.5%reduction in power output but achieve remarkable enhancements of 45.4%and 36.7%in thermal and exergy efficiency,*** study introduces new insights into selecting regenerator structures for enhancing the output performance of Stirling engines.

The ovary is indispensable for female reproduction,and its age-dependent functional decline is the primary cause of ***,the molecular basis of ovarian aging in higher vertebrates remains poorly ***,we apply spatiotemporal transcriptomics to benchmark architecture organization as well as cellular and molecular determinants in young primate ovaries and compare these to aged primate *** a global view,somatic cells within the non-follicle region undergo more pronounced transcriptional fluctuation relative to those in the follicle region,likely constituting a hostile microenvironment that facilitates ovarian ***,we uncovered that inflammation,the senescent-associated secretory phenotype,senescence,and fibrosis are the likely primary contributors to ovarian aging(PCOA).Of note,we identified spatial co-localization between a PCOA-featured spot and an unappreciated MT2(Metallothionein 2)highly expressing spot(MT2^(high))characterized by high levels of inflammation,potentially serving as an aging hotspot in the primate ***,with advanced age,a subpopulation of MT2^(high)accumulates,likely disseminating and amplifying the senescent signal *** study establishes the first primate spatiotemporal transcriptomic atlas,advancing our understanding of mechanistic determinants underpinning primate ovarian aging and unraveling potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for aging and age-associated human ovarian disorders.

Protective Effects of Danmu Extract Syrup on Acute Lung Injury Induced by Lipopolysaccharide in Mice through Endothelial Barrier Repair

Non-alcoholic fatty liver degree and long-term risk of incident inflammatory bowel disease: A large-scale prospective cohort study

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have shown similar worsening epidemic patterns globally and shared various overlapping pathophysiological mechanisms. However, evidence on the relationship between NAFLD and IBD risk is lacking. We aimed to investigate the associations between long-term risk of incident IBD and NAFLD in a large prospective ***: Participants from the United Kingdom Biobank cohort (https://***/) who were free of IBD and alcoholic liver disease at baseline were enrolled. Baseline non-alcoholic fatty liver degree was measured by the well-established fatty liver index (FLI). The outcomes of interest included incident IBD, ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohn’s disease (CD). Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression was used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results: Among 418,721 participants (mean FLI: 48.11 ± 30.11), 160,807 (38.40%) participants were diagnosed as NAFLD at baseline. During a median of 12.4 years’ follow-up, 2346 incident IBD cases (1545 UC, 653 CD, and 148 IBD-unclassified) were identified. Due to limited events, those IBD-unclassified were combined in UC or CD when examining the associated risk of UC or CD, separately. Compared with the lowest quartile of FLI, the highest quartile showed a separately 36.00%, 25.00%, and 58.00% higher risk of incident IBD (HRQ4vs. Q1 =1.36, 95% CI: 1.19-1.55,Ptrend significantly higher risk of incident IBD (HR=1.13, 95% CI: 1.04-1.24) and CD (HR =1.36, 95% CI: 1.17-1.58).Conclusions: Higher degree of non-alcoholic fatty liver is associated with increased risk of incident IBD. In unit cell simulations,identification of ordered phases in block copolymers(BCPs)is a tedious and time-consuming task,impeding the advancement of more streamlined and potentially automated research *** this study,we propose a scattering-based automated identification strategy(SAIS)for characterization and identification of ordered phases of BCPs based on their computed scattering *** approach leverages the scattering theory of perfect crystals to efficiently compute the scattering patterns of periodic morphologies in a unit *** the first stage of the SAIS,phases are identified by comparing reflection conditions at a sequence of Miller *** confirm or refine the identification results of the first stage,the second stage of the SAIS introduces a tailored residual between the test phase and each of the known candidate ***,our strategy incorporates a variance-like criterion to distinguish background species,enabling its extension to multi-species BCP *** has been demonstrated that our strategy achieves exceptional accuracy and robustness while requiring minimal computational ***,the approach allows for real-time expansion and improvement to the candidate phase library,facilitating the development of automated research workflows for designing specific ordered structures and discovering new ordered phases in BCPs.
