Epidemiological features of seasonal influenza transmission among 11 climate zones in Chinese mainland

Background Previous studies provided some evidence of meteorological factors influence seasonal influenza transmission patterns varying across regions and latitudes.However,research on seasonal influenza activities based on climate zones are still in lack.This study aims to utilize the ecological-based Koppen Geiger climate zones classif-cation system to compare the spatial and temporal epidemiological characteristics of seasonal influenza in Chinese mainland and assess the feasibility of developing an early warning system.Methods Weekly influenza cases number from 2014 to 2019 at the county and city level were sourced from China National Notifiable Infectious Disease Report Information System.Epidemic temporal indices,time series seasonality decomposition,spatial modelling theories including Moran's/and local indicators of spatial association were applied to identify the spatial and temporal patterns of influenza transmission.Results All climate zones had peaks in Winter-Spring season.Arid,desert,cold(BWk)showed up the first peak.Only Tropical,savannah(Aw)and Temperate,dry winter with hot summer(Cwa)zones had unique summer peak.Temper-ate,no dry season and hot summer(Cfa)zone had highest average incidence rate(IR)at 1.047/100,000.The Global Moran's/showed that average IR had significant clustered trend(z=53.69,Psition.Conclusions Seasonal influenza exhibited distinct spatial and temporal patterns in different climate zones.Seasonal influenza primarily emerged in BWk,subsequently in Cfa and Cwa.Cfa,Cwa and BSk pose high risk for seasonal influ-enza epidemics.The research finds will provide scientific evidence for developing seasonal infl

Moisture-enabled electricity(ME)is a method of converting the potential energy of water in the external environment into electrical energy through the interaction of functional materials with water molecules and can be directly applied to energy harvesting and signal expression.However,ME can be unreliable in numerous applications due to its sluggish response to moisture,thus sacrificing the value of fast energy harvesting and highly accurate information representation.Here,by constructing a moisture-electric-moisture-sensitive(ME-MS)heterostructure,we develop an efficient ME generator with ultra-fast electric response to moisture achieved by triggering Grotthuss protons hopping in the sensitized ZnO,which modulates the heterostructure built-in interfacial potential,enables quick response(0.435 s),an unprecedented ultra-fast response rate of 972.4 mV s^(−1),and a durable electrical signal output for 8 h without any attenuation.Our research provides an efficient way to generate electricity and important insight for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of moisture-generated carrier migration in ME generator,which has a more comprehensive working scene and can serve as a typical model for human health monitoring and smart medical electronics design.

Objective Innate lymphoid cells(ILCs)are a class of newly discovered immunocytes.Group 1 ILCs(ILC1s)are identified in the decidua of humans and mice.High mobility group box 1(HMGB1)is predicted to be one of the target genes of miR-142-3p,which is closely related to pregnancy-related diseases.Furthermore,miR-142-3p and HMGB1 are involved in regulating the NF-κB signaling pathway.This study aimed to examine the regulatory effect of miR-142-3p on ILC1s and the underlying mechanism involving HMGB1 and the NF-κB signaling pathway.Methods Mouse models of normal pregnancy and abortion were constructed,and the alterations of ILC1s,miR-142-3p,ILC1 transcription factor(T-bet),and pro-inflammatory cytokines of ILC1s(TNF-α,IFN-γand IL-2)were detected in mice from different groups.The targeting regulation of HMGB1 by miR-142-3p in ILC1s,and the expression of HMGB1 in normal pregnant mice and abortive mice were investigated.In addition,the regulatory effects of miR-142-3p and HMGB1 on ILC1s were detected in vitro by CCK-8,Annexin-V/PI,ELISA,and RT-PCR,respectively.Furthermore,changes of the NF-κB signaling pathway in ILC1s were examined in the different groups.For the in vivo studies,miR-142-3p-Agomir was injected in the uterus of abortive mice to evaluate the abortion rate and alterations of ILC1s at the maternal-fetal interface,and further detect the expression of HMGB1,pro-inflammatory cytokines,and the NF-κB signaling pathway.Results The number of ILC1s was significantly increased,the level of HMGB1 was significantly upregulated,and that of miR-142-3p was considerably downregulated in the abortive mice as compared with the normal pregnant mice(all Psignaling pathway(Psignificantly downregulated and the activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway was inhibited in the miR-142-3p Agomir group(all Psion miR-142-3p can regulate ILC1s by targeting HMGB1

Intestinal failure-associated liver disease(IFALD)is a common complication of long-term parenteral nutrition that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.It is mainly characterized by cholestasis in children and steatohepatitis in adults.Unfortunately,there is no effective approach to prevent or reverse the disease.Regulated cell death(RCD)represents a fundamental biological paradigm that determines the outcome of a variety of liver diseases.Nowadays cell death is reclassified into several types,based on the mechanisms and morphological phenotypes.Emerging evidence has linked different modes of RCD,such as apoptosis,necroptosis,ferroptosis,and pyroptosis to the pathogenesis of liver diseases.Recent studies have shown that different modes of RCD are present in animal models and patients with IFALD.Understanding the pathogenic roles of cell death may help uncover the underlying mechanisms and develop novel therapeutic strategies in IFALD.In this review,we discuss the current knowledge on how RCD may link to the pathogenesis of IFALD.We highlight examples of cell death-targeted interventions aiming to attenuate the disease,and provide perspectives for future basic and translational research in the field.

Nypa fruticans(Wurmb),a mangrove palm species with origins dating back to the Late Cretaceous period,is a unique species for investigating long-term adaptation strategies to intertidal environments and the early evolution of palms.Here,we present a chromosome-level genome sequence and assembly for N.fruticans.We integrated the genomes of N.fruticans and other palm family members for a comparative genomic analysis,which confirmed that the common ancestor of all palms experienced a whole-genome duplication event around 89 million years ago,shaping the distinctive characteristics observed in this clade.We also inferred a low mutation rate for the N.fruticans genome,which underwent strong purifying selection and evolved slowly,thus contributing to its stability over a long evolutionary period.Moreover,ancient duplicates were preferentially retained,with critical genes having experienced positive selection,enhancing waterlogging tolerance in N.fruticans.Furthermore,we discovered that the pseudogenization of Early Methionine-labelled 1(EM1)and EM6 in N.fruticans underly its crypto-vivipary characteristics,reflecting its intertidal adaptation.Our study provides valuable genomic insights into the evolutionary history,genome stability,and adaptive evolution of the mangrove palm.Our results also shed light on the long-term adaptation of this species and contribute to our understanding of the evolutionary dynamics in the palm family.

A method of quantification of perfluorinated compounds(PFCs)from atmospheric particulate matter(APM)is described.A single step pretreatment method,selective pressurized liquid extraction(SPLE),was developed to reduce the high matrix background and avoid contamination from commonly used multiple sample pretreatment steps.An effective sorbent was selected to purify the PFCs during SPLE,followed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC–MS/MS),for quantification of PFCs.Conditions affecting the SPLE efficiency,including temperature,static extraction time,and number of extraction cycles used,were studied.The optimum conditions were found to be 120℃,10 min,and 3 cycles,respectively.LC-MS/MS method was developed to obtain the optimal sensitivity specific to PFCs.The method detection limits(MDLs)were 0.006 to 0.48 ng/g for the PFCs studied and the linear response range was from 0.1 to 100 ng/g.To ensure accurate values were obtained,each step of the experiment was evaluated and controlled to prevent contamination.The optimized method was tested by performing spiking experiments in natural particulate matter matrices and good rates of recovery and reproducibility were obtained for all target compounds.Finally,the method was successfully used to measure 16 PFCs in the APM samples collected in Beijing over five years from 2015 to 2019.It is observed that some PFCs follow the trend of total PFC changes,and can be attributed to the environment influencing events and policy enforcement,while others don't seem to change as much with time of the year or from year to year.

Interfacial solar evaporation holds immense potential for brine desalination with low carbon footprints and high energy utilization.Hydrogels,as a tunable material platform from the molecular level to the macroscopic scale,have been considered the most promising candidate for solar evaporation.However,the simultaneous achievement of high evaporation efficiency and satisfactory tolerance to salt ions in brine remains a challenging scientific bottleneck,restricting the widespread application.Herein,we report ionization engineering,which endows polymer chains of hydrogels with electronegativity for impeding salt ions and activating water molecules,fundamentally overcoming the hydrogel salt-impeded challenge and dramatically expediting water evaporating in brine.The sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate-modified carbon black is chosen as the solar absorbers.The hydrogel reaches a ground-breaking evaporation rate of 2.9 kg m−2 h−1 in 20 wt%brine with 95.6%efficiency under one sun irradiation,surpassing most of the reported literature.More notably,such a hydrogel-based evaporator enables extracting clean water from oversaturated salt solutions and maintains durability under different high-strength deformation or a 15-day continuous operation.Meantime,on the basis of the cation selectivity induced by the electronegativity,we first propose an all-day system that evaporates during the day and generates salinity-gradient electricity using waste-evaporated brine at night,anticipating pioneer a new opportunity for all-day resource-generating systems in fields of freshwater and electricity.

The mechanical properties of engineering plastics can be enhanced through effective surface mechanical treatment(SMT),which can be applied to various types of engineering plastics,eliminating the limitations of conventional polymer processing and could potentially extend their applications and improve their performance and reliability as structural-functional materials.Inspired by metal forging,this work proposes a simple and effective SMT strategy to enhance the mechanical properties of polyamide 66(PA66).Tensile tests have shown that SMTed PA66 samples exhibit significant improvements in both Young’s modulus and ultimate tensile strength(UTS),with a 2104 MPa Young’s modulus,almost double that of the pristine samples,and a 35.56%increase in UTS,reaching 183 MPa.Additionally,the modulus within the localized SMTed surface layer could reach up to 14 GPa,which is approximately 14 times higher than that of the pristine sample.The Vickers hardness within the localized SMTed surface layer can be doubled,reaching 10.72 Hv,and the crystallinity can increase by approximately 20%compared to the untreated region.Furthermore,force field molecular dynamics(FFMD)simulations were conducted to investigate the ternary relationship between the SMT method,PA66’s molecular structure,and its properties.The combination of MD simulations and versatile structural characterizations provides evidence that the SMT method’s mechanism,under heat induction,results in a chain-combing procedure that changes the polymer’s molecular morphology microscopically and enhances its mechanical properties macroscopically.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has drawn great attention around the world.SARS-CoV-2 is a highly infectious virus with occult transmission by many mutations and a long incubation period.In particular,the emergence of asymptomatic infections has made the epidemic even more severe.Therefore,early diagnosis and timely management of suspected cases are essential measures to control the spread of the virus.Developing simple,portable,and accurate diagnostic techniques for SARS-CoV-2 is the key to epidemic prevention.The advantages of point-of-care testing technology make it play an increasingly important role in viral detection and screening.This review summarizes the point-of-care testing platforms developed by nucleic acid detection,immunological detection,and nanomaterial-based biosensors detection.Furthermore,this paper provides a prospect for designing future highly accurate,cheap,and convenient SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic technology.
