Inspired by the finding that the large waiting time of solar flares presents a power-law distribution, we investigate the waiting time distribution (WTD) of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). SOHO/LASCO CME observations from 1996 to 2003 are used in this study. It is shown that the observed CMEs have a similar power-law behavior to the flares, with an almost identical power-law index. This strongly supports the viewpoint that solar flares and CMEs are different manifestations of the same physical process. We have also investigated separately the WTDs of fast-type and slow-type CMEs and found that their indices are identical, which imply that both types of CME may originate from the same physical mechanism.

BACKGROUND Prior studies indicate that doing breathing exercises improves physical performance and quality of life (QoL) in heart failure patients. However, these effects remain unclear and contradictory. AIM To determine the effects of machine-assisted and non-machine-assisted respiratory training on physical performance and QoL in heart failure patients. METHODS This was a systematic review and network meta-analysis study. A literature search of electronic databases was conducted for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on heart failure. Respiratory training interventions were grouped as seven categories: IMT_Pn (inspiratory muscle training without pressure or < 10% maximal inspiratory pressure, MIP), IMT_Pl (inspiratory muscle training with low pressure, 10%-15% MIP), IMT_Pm (inspiratory muscle training with medium pressure, 30%-40% MIP), IMT_Ph (inspiratory muscle training with high pressure, 60% MIP or MIP plus aerobics), Aerobics (aerobic exercise or weight training), Qi_Ex (tai chi, yoga, and breathing exercise), and none. The four outcomes were heart rate, peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak), 6-min walking distance test (6MWT), and Minnesota Living with Heart Failure QoL. The random-effects model, side-splitting model, and the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) were used to test and analyze the data. RESULTS A total of 1499 subjects from 31 RCT studies were included. IMT_Ph had the highest effect sizes for VO2 peak and 6MWT, IMT_Pm highest for QoL, and Qi_Ex highest for heart rate. Aerobics had the second highest for VO2 peak, Qi_Ex second highest for 6MWT, and IMT_Ph second highest for heart rate and *** This study supports that high- and medium-intensity machine-assisted training improves exercise capacity and QoL in hospital-based heart failure patients. After hospital discharge, non-machine-assisted training continuously improves cardiac function.

Different from the oxidation kinetics of other nitrides,the oxide layer on AlN can easily reach tens of micrometers at a temperature above 1200 ℃.In the present study,the oxidation mechanism of AlN is investigated through microstructure *** analysis indicates that the oxide layer is full of small *** formation of pores generates additional surface area to induce further *** reaction thus controls the oxidation in the temperature range from 1050 to 1350 ℃.The oxidation rate becomes slow as the oxide layer reaches a critical thickness.

AIM:To establish the prognosis and feasibility of en-bloc vascular resection of stage pancreatic adenocarcinoma of the head and uncinate ***:We retrospectively analyzed 87 patients with stage pancreatic adenocarcinoma,who were subjected to pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and pylo-rus-preserving PD (PPPD) between 1996 and 2006 in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital,Taiwan. Twelve and 75 patients underwent PD/PPPD with and without resection of portal vein/superior mesenteric vein (PV/SMV),***:The overall 1-and 3-year survival rates of patients undergoing PD/PPPD with and without vas-cular resection were 50.0% and 16.7%,and 44.4% and 12.2%,respectively. Morbidity and mortality rates in the PV/SMV resection vs non-resection group were 50.0% and 0.0%,and 40.0% and 2.7%,respectively. In multivariate analysis,serum bilirubin,histological differentiation and adjuvant chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors that influenced ***:In stage adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic head and uncinate process,serum bilirubin,histological differentiation and adjuvant chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors,and en-bloc vascular resection is a feasible option in carefully selected patients.

Retaining or improving periodontal ligament （PDL） function is crucial for restoring periodontal defects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological effects of low-power laser irradiation （LPLI） on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human PDL （hPDL） cells. Cultured hPDL cel Is were irradiated （660 nm） daily with doses of O, 1, 2 or 4 J .cm-2. Cell proliferation was evaluated by the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide （MTT） assay, and the effect of LPLI on osteogenic differentiation was assessed by Alizarin Red S staining and alkaline phosphatase （ALP） activity. Additionally, osteogenic marker gene expression was confirmed by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）. Our data showed that LPLI at a dose of 2 ***-2 significantly promoted hPDL cell proliferation at days 3 and 5. In addition, LPLI at energy doses of 2 and 4 ***-2 showed potential osteogenic capacity, as it stimulated ALP activity, calcium deposition, and osteogenic gene expression. We also showed that cyclic adenosine monophosphate （cAMP） is a critical regulator of the LPLI-mediated effects on hPDL cells. This study shows that LPLI can promote the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of hPDL cells. These results suggest the potential use of LPLI in clinical applications for periodontal tissue regeneration.

A novel method is proposed for the supervised classification of multifrequency polarimetric synthetic aperture radar （PolSAR） images. The coherency matrices in P-, L-, and C-bands are mapped onto a 9×9 matrix Ω based on the eigenvalue decomposition of the coherency matrix of each band. A boxcar filter is then performed on the matrix Ω. The filtered data are put into a complex Wishart classifier. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with JPL/AIRSAR multifrequency PolSAR data acquired over the Flevoland area.

This paper presents a new type of cellular automa ta (CA) model for the simulation of alternative land development using neural netw orks for urban planning. CA models can be regarded as a planning tool because th ey can generate alternative urban growth. Alternative development patterns can b e formed by using different sets of parameter values in CA simulation. A critica l issue is how to define parameter values for realistic and idealized simulation . This paper demonstrates that neural networks can simplify CA models but genera te more plausible results. The simulation is based on a simple three-layer netw ork with an output neuron to generate conversion probability. No transition rule s are required for the simulation. Parameter values are automatically obtained f rom the training of network by using satellite remote sensing data. Original tra ining data can be assessed and modified according to planning objectives. Altern ative urban patterns can be easily formulated by using the modified training dat a sets rather than changing the model.

Engineering design is undergoing a paradigm shift from design for performance to design for affordability, operability, and durability, seeking multi-objective optimization. To facilitate this transformation, significantly extended design freedom and knowledge must be available in the early design stages. This paper presents a high-fidelity framework for design and optimization of the liquid swirl injectors that are widely used in aerospace propulsion and power-generation systems. The framework assembles a set of techniques, including Design Of Experiment(DOE), high-fidelity Large Eddy Simulations(LES), machine learning, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD)-based Kriging surrogate modeling(emulation), inverse problem optimization, and uncertainty quantification. LES-based simulations can reveal detailed spatiotemporal evolution of flow structures and flame dynamics in a high-fidelity manner, and identify important injector design parameters according to their effects on propellant mixing, flame stabilization, and thermal *** a given a space of design parameters, DOE determines the number of design points to perform LES-based simulations. POD-based emulations, trained by the LES database, can effectively explore the design space and deduce an optimal group of design parameters in a turn-around time that is reduced by three orders of magnitude. The accuracy of the emulated results is validated, and the uncertainty of prediction is quantified. The proposed design methodology is expected to profoundly extend the knowledge base and reduce the cost for initial design stages.

AIM:To identify the mucosal patterns of Helicobacter pylori(*** )-related gastritis in the gastric corpus using standard endoscopy and to evaluate their ***:A total of 112 consecutive patients underwent upper gastrointestinal *** endoscopists classified the endoscopic findings into 4 *** the second part of the study,90 images were shown to 3 endoscopists in order to evaluate the inter-observer and intra-observer variability in image ***:The mucosal patterns of the gastric bodywere categorized into 4 *** 1 pattern was defined as cleft-like appearance,type 2 as regular arrangement of red dots,type 3 pattern as the mosaic mucosal pattern and type 4 pattern as the mosaic pattern with a focal area of *** 1 and type 2 mucosal patterns were statistically significant in predicting *** status as compared with other mucosal types(χ 2 = 12.79 and 61.25 respectively,P < 0.01).Type 3 and type 4 mucosal patterns were statistically significant in predicting a ***-positive status as compared with other mucosal types(χ 2 = 21.22 and 11.02 respectively,P < 0.01).Furthermore,the sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values of type 3 plus type 4 patterns for predicting ***-positive gastric mucosa were 100%,86%,94%,and 100%,*** mean κ values for inter-and intra-observer agreement in assessing the various endoscopic patterns were 0.808(95% CI,0.678-0.938) and 0.826(95% CI,0.727-0.925) ***:Our study suggests that mucosal patterns in ***-infected gastric mucosa without atrophy can be reliably identified using standard endoscopy in the gastric corpus.
