Convenient design of anti-wetting nano-Al/WO_(3)metastable intermolecular composites(MICs)with an enhanced exothermic life-span

For solving the dilemma of the short exothermic life-span of WO_(3)based metastable interstitial composites(MICs)with extensive application prospect,this paper has firstly designed the promising antiwetting Al/WO_(3)MICs via electrophoresis assembly of nano-Al and WO_(3)particles fabricated by hydrothermal synthesis method,followed by the subsequent fluorination treatment.A combination of X ray diffraction(XRD),field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)techniques were utilized in order to characterize the crystal structure,microstructure,and elemental composition distribution of target films after different natural exposure tests.The product with uniform distribution and high purity possesses a high contact angle of~170°and a minute sliding angle of~1°,and displays the outstanding anti-wetting property using droplets with different surface tensions.It also shows great moisture stability in high relative-humidity circumstances after one year of the natural exposure experiment.Notably,the heat output of a fresh sample can reach up to 2.3 kJ/g and retain 96%after the whole exposure test,showing outstanding thermo-stability for at least one year.This work further proposed the mechanism of antiwetting Al/WO_(3)MICs considering the variation tendency of their DSC curve,providing a valuable theoretical reference for designing other self-protected MICs with a long exothermic life-span applied in wide fields of national defense,military industry,etc.

After the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant(Fukushima nuclear accident)in 2011,Japan quickly took emergency measures to reduce radiation hazards posed by the released radioactive materials.As a neighboring country of Japan across the East China Sea,China has also taken some corresponding prevention and control measures.China has continuously strengthened the monitoring of radioactivity in food in recent years.This paper discusses the revision of standards for radioactivity in food,the improvement of methods and equipment,and the updating of monitoring systems performed in China and Japan over the last ten years after the Fukushima Daiichi accident.In addition,this paper outlines the recent problems left over from the nuclear accident,puts forward some views on the progress of important topics,and gives some thoughts and prospects on the further improvement of the monitoring systems of radioactivity in food in China.

Acute myeloid leukemia(AML)is a rapidly lethal blood cancer characterized by aberrant proliferation and differentiation of myeloid progenitors in the hematopoietic tissue.In recent decades,AML patients are significantly increased.In 2019 alone,21,450 new AML cases were diagnosed in the United States,with an estimated 10,920 deaths due to AML.What’s worse,AML occurs with an increasing incidence with advanced age,and the survival rate remains dismal with a median overall survival of only 5e10 months.Notwithstanding great advances in allogenic transplant and chemotherapy,the therapeutic outcomes are unfavorable due to the disease relapse and mortality rates.More importantly,the development of more specific and effective therapies was hampered in part by the lack of proper animal models for AML.Thus,management and elucidation of the pathological mechanism of AML remain an ongoing challenge,and the development of effective AML mouse models and treatment options are urgently needed.

Soil inorganic amendments produce safe rice by reducing the transfer of Cd and increasing key amino acids in brown rice

The digestibility of cadmium(Cd)in brown rice is directly related to amino acid metabolism in rice and human health.In our field study,three kinds of alkaline calcium-rich soil inorganic amendments(SIAs)at three dosages were applied to produce safe rice and improve the quality of rice in Cd-contaminated paddy.With the increased application of SIA,Cd content in iron plaque on rice root significantly increased,the transfer of Cd from rice root to grain significantly decreased,and then Cd content in brown rice decreased synchronously.The vitro digestibility of Cd in brown rice was estimated by a physiologically based extraction test.Results showed that more than 70%of Cd in brown rice could be digested by simulated gastrointestinal juice.Based on the total and digestible Cd contents in brown rice to evaluate the health risk,the application of 2.25 ton SIA/ha could produce safe rice in acidic slightly Cd-contaminated paddy soils.The amino acids(AAs)in brown rice were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography.The contents of 5 key AAs(KAAs)that actively respond to environmental changes increased significantly with the increased application of SIA.The structural equation model indicated that KAAs could be affected by the Cd translocation capacity from rice root to grain,and consequently altered the ratio of indigestible Cd in brown rice.The formation of indigestible KAAs-Cd complexes by combining KAAs(phenylalanine,leucine,histidine,glutamine,and asparagine)with Cd in brown rice could be considered a potential mechanism for reducing the digestibility of Cd.

Water spewing and muck plugging often occur during earth pressure balance(EPB)shield machines tunnelling in water-rich sandy strata,even though the conventional foam has been employed to condition sandy soils.In this study,a novel thickened foaming agent suitable for EPB shield tunnelling in water-rich sandy strata is developed.In contrast to conventional foam-conditioned sands,the thickened foam-conditioned sand has a low permeability due to the consistent filling of soil pores with the thickened foam,and the initial permeability coefficient decreases by approximately two orders of magnitude.It also exhibits a suitable workability,which is attributed to the enhanced capability of the thickened foam to condition sandy soils.In addition,the effect of concentration on the stability of the foam is explained by the Gibbs-Marangoni effect,and conditioning mechanisms for the thickened foam on sands are discussed from the evolution of foam bubbles.

Chlorine(Cl2)is one of the most important chemicals produced by the electrolysis of brine solutions and is a key raw material for many areas of industrial chemistry.For nearly half a century,dimensionally stable anode(DSA)made from a mixture of RuO_(2) and TiO_(2) solid oxides coated on Ti substrate has been the most widely used electrode for chlorine evolution reaction(CER).In harsh operating environments,the stability of DSAs remains a major challenge greatly affecting their lifetime.The deactivation of DSAs significantly increases the cost of the chlor-alkali industry due to the corrosion of Ru and the formation of the passivation layer TiO_(2).Therefore,it is urgent to develop catalysts with higher activity and stability,which requires a thorough understanding of the deactivation mechanism of DSA catalysts.This paper reviews existing references on the deactivation mechanisms of DSA catalysts,including both experimental and theoretical studies.Studies on how CER selectivity affects electrode stability are also discussed.Furthermore,studies on the effects of the preparation process,elemental composition,and surface/interface structures on the DSA stability and corresponding improvement strategies are summarized.The development of other non-DSA-type catalysts with comparable stability is also reviewed,and future opportunities in this exciting field are also outlined.

采用内充气正比计数管进行放射性气体核素活度绝对测量的方法中,对小幅度脉冲计数损失进行合理修正是准确获得活度测量结果的关键。本工作以3种典型的放射性气体核素37 Ar、3H和85 Kr为例,利用Geant4蒙特卡罗模拟软件,对气体核素活度绝对测量过程中阈值以下漏计数损失修正进行了研究。结果表明:在核素37 Ar活度测量中,小脉冲漏计数主要为电子俘获过程释放的X射线所产生的“壁效应”计数损失,可通过计数率-气压倒数外推的方式进行修正;核素3H衰变释放的β射线能量较低,小脉冲漏计数主要来自于β射线的低能端,可在低计数阈值条件下采用能谱外推的方式予以修正;核素85 Kr测量过程中,计数损失主要来源于高能β射线产生的“壁效应”损失,需依次采用β能谱外推和气压外推的方式进行修正。采用以上方法,可消除小幅度脉冲损失产生的影响。

Lupenone improves motor dysfunction in spinal cord injury mice through inhibiting the inflammasome activation and pyroptosis in microglia via the nuclear factor kappa B pathway

Spinal cord injury-induced motor dysfunction is associated with neuroinflammation.Studies have shown that the triterpenoid lupenone,a natural product found in various plants,has a remarkable anti-inflammatory effect in the context of chronic inflammation.However,the effects of lupenone on acute inflammation induced by spinal cord injury remain unknown.In this study,we established an impact-induced mouse model of spinal cord injury,and then treated the injured mice with lupenone(8 mg/kg,twice a day)by intrape ritoneal injection.We also treated BV2 cells with lipopolysaccharide and adenosine5’-triphosphate to simulate the inflammatory response after spinal cord injury.Our res ults showed that lupenone reduced IKBa activation and p65 nuclear translocation,inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome function by modulating nuclear factor kappa B,and enhanced the conve rsion of proinflammatory M1 mic roglial cells into anti-inflammatory M2 microglial cells.Furthermore,lupenone decreased NLRP3 inflammasome activation,NLRP3-induced mic roglial cell polarization,and microglia pyroptosis by inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa B pathway.These findings suggest that lupenone protects against spinal cord injury by inhibiting inflammasomes.

Flat jet electrochemical milling of TC4 alloy with tailoring backward parallel flow

In flat jet electrochemical milling, the electrolyte forms a backward parallel flow after impacting the workpiece, resulting in a weak current density distribution on the workpiece. Poor surface quality usually occurs on the machined titanium alloy surface because it inevitably suffers from the weak current density. In this study, a method of flat jet electrochemical milling with tailoring the backward parallel flow was proposed to eliminate the negative effects caused by the weak current density. Multiphysics simulations are carried out to comprehend the mechanism of flat jetEC milling with tailoring backward parallel flow and better construct the novel tool electrode.Experiments on flat jet electrochemical milling of TC4 alloy with and without tailoring backward parallel flow are conducted. The results reveal that, compared with flat jet electrochemical milling without tailoring backward parallel flow, the recommended tool reduces the surface roughness by86% to 93%, and improves the material removal rate by 93% to 163% with different feed rates.Additionally, the recommended tool is more conducive to maintaining the inherent hardness of the material. Finally, a surface with low Sa of 0.37 μm is obtained.
