Optimal geometrical configuration and oxidation state of cobalt cations in spinel oxides to promote the performance of li-O_(2) battery

Co_(3)O_(4) is considered as one of promising cathode catalysts for lithium oxygen(li-O_(2))batteries,which contains both tetrahedral Co^(2+)sites(Co^(2+)Td)and octahedral Co^(3+)sites(Co^(3+)Oh).It is important to reveal the effect of optimal geometric configuration and oxidation state of cobalt ion in Co_(3)O_(4) to improve the performance of li-O_(2) batteries.Herein,through regulating the synthesis process,Co^(2+)and Co^(3+)sites in Co_(3)O_(4) were replaced with Zn and Al atoms to form materials with a unique Co site.The li-O_(2) batteries based on ZnCo_(2)O_(4) showed longer cycle life than that of CoAl_(2)O_(4),suggesting that in Co_(3)O_(4),the Co^(3+)Oh site is a relatively better geometric configuration than Co^(2+)Td site for li-O_(2) batteries.Theoretical calculations revealed that Co^(3+)Oh sites provide higher catalysis activity,regulating the adsorption energy of the intermediate liO_(2) and accelerating the kinetics of the reaction in batteries,which further leads to the change of the morphology of the discharge product and ultimately improves the electrochemical performance of the batteries.

Food allergy as a global health problem threatens food industry.Bee pollen(BP)is a typical food with allergenic potentials,although it performs various nutritional/pharmacological functions to humans.In this study,lactic acid bacteria(LAB)were used to ferment Brassica napus BP for alleviating its allergenicity.Four novel allergens(glutaredoxin,oleosin-B2,catalase and lipase)were identified with significant decreases in LAB-fermented BP(FBP)than natural BP by proteomics.Meanwhile,metabolomics analysis showed significant increases of 28 characteristic oligopeptides and amino acids in FBP versus BP,indicating the degradation of LAB on allergens.Moreover,FBP showed alleviatory effects in BALB/c mice,which relieved pathological symptoms and lowered production of allergic mediators.Microbial high-throughput sequencing analysis showed that FBP could regulate gut microbiota and metabolism to strengthen immunity,which were closely correlated with the alleviation of allergic reactivity.These findings could contribute to the development and utilization of hypoallergenic BP products.

Multifunctional drug delivery systems(DDSs)have shown great prospects in overcoming the heterogeneous barrier of delivery drugs to the complex tumor microenvironment(TME).In this study,multifunctional AS/Ge-pNAB microgels with dual-active targeting,triple environment responsiveness,and fluorescence imaging capability were prepared through a straightforward procedure.This was aimed to improve the antitumor therapeutic application of gambogic acid(GA)based on the biological characteristics of TME.The microgels have a uniform double-layer structure with aptamer in the outer layer which helps in recognizing receptors on the tumor cells.The GA loaded nano-herb exhibited environment-responsive drug release profiles under acidic pH,reductant and high temperature.The nano-herb significantly improved the accumulation of GA in tumor sites through the synergistic combination of the enhanced permeability and retention effect and dual-ligand mediated internalization.Then,it accelerated intracellular drug release and killed tumor cells.Therefore,the nano-herb had specific therapeutic effects on the tumor in vitro and in vivo as they remarkably inhibited tumor growth while depicting optimal biosafety and lower levels of off-target toxicity.Overall,these findings demonstrate the great potential of the multifunctional AS/Ge-pNAB microgels for precisely targeted GA delivery and open a new avenue for the facile preparation of multifunctional DDSs.

Oxidative stress has been associated with a number of physiological problems in swine,including reduced production efficiency.Recently,although there has been increased research into regulatory mechanisms and antioxidant strategies in relation to oxidative stress-induced pig production,it remains so far largely unsuccessful to develop accurate models and nutritional strategies for specific oxidative stress factors.Here,we discuss the dose and dose intensity of the causes of oxidative stress involving physiological,environmental and dietary factors,recent research models and the antioxidant strategies to provide theoretical guidance for future oxidative stress research in swine.

Nowadays,cancer has become the leading cause of death worldwide,driving the need for effective therapeutics to improve patient prognosis.Photodynamic therapy(PDT)has been widely applied as an antitumor modality,owing to its minimal invasiveness,localized tumor damage,and high safety profile.However,its efficacy is limited by poor stability of photosensitizers,inadequate tumor accumulation,and a complex tumor microenvironment.To overcome these challenges,extensive endeavors have been made to explore the co-assembly of the widely used photosensitizer chlorin e6(Ce6)with various functional small molecules to enhance pharmacodynamic activity.This review provides a comprehensive overview of current studies on Ce6-based nanoparticles for effective PDT and precise delivery of functional molecules.The self-assembly mechanism will be discussed in detail,with a focus on potential strategies for combinational therapy with PDT.

Intraneuronal dysproteostasis and extraneuronal microenvironmental abnormalities in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)collectively culminate in neuronal deterioration.In the context of AD,autophagy dysfunction,a multi-link obstacle involving autophagy downregulation and lysosome defects in neurons/microglia is highly implicated in intra/extraneuronal pathological processes.Therefore,multidimensional autophagy regulation strategies co-manipulating“autophagy induction”and“lysosome degradation”in dual targets(neuron and microglia)are more reliable for AD treatment.Accordingly,we designed an RP-1 peptide-modified reactive oxygen species(ROS)-responsive micelles(RT-NM)loading rapamycin or gypenoside XVII.Guided by RP-1 peptide,the ligand of receptor for advanced glycation end products(RAGE),RT-NM efficiently targeted neurons and microglia in AD-affected region.This nanocombination therapy activated the whole autophagy-lysosome pathway by autophagy induction(rapamycin)and lysosome improvement(gypenoside XVII),thus enhancing autophagic degradation of neurotoxic aggregates and inflammasomes,and promoting Aβ phagocytosis.Resultantly,it decreased aberrant protein burden,alleviated neuroinflammation,and eventually ameliorated memory defects in 3×Tg-AD transgenic mice.Our research developed a multidimensional autophagy nano-regulator to boost the efficacy of autophagy-centered AD therapy.

The benefits of PCSK9 inhibitors in patients with acute coronary syndrome:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9(PSCK9)inhibitors have been beneficial for many patients with hyperlipidemia.The objective of this study was to investigate the benefit of PSCK9 inhibitors in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS).Methods:We systematically searched PubMed,EMBASE,and Cochrane Clinical Trials(published before January 2023;no language restriction)to compare the treatment of patients with ACS using PCSK9 inhibitors and placebo.The primary end points were major adverse cardiovascular events,nonfatal myocardial infarction,cardiogenic death,stroke,hospitalization for recurrent ACS,and coronary revascularization.Fixed-or random-effects models were used to assess the aggregated data.Results:Of the 1686 identified studies,5 were eligible and included in our analysis(of a total of 38,005 participants,18,609 cases were placed in the PCSK9 inhibitor treatment group and 19,396 cases in the placebo group).Compared with the placebo group,PCSK9 inhibitors significantly reduced the major adverse cardiovascular events(odds ratio[OR]:0.83;95%confidence interval[CI]:0.77–0.88;Plization for recurrent ACS(OR:0.57;95%CI:0.40–0.83;P=0.003),or coronary revascularization(OR:0.82;95%CI:0.76–0.88;Plity of multiple cardiovascular events and improved patient prognosis.

Atohl is essential for the development of both outer hair cells(OHCs) and inner hair cells(IHCs) in the mammalian co chlea.Whereas Ikzf2 is necessary for OHC development,the key gene re quired for IHC development remains unknown.We found that deletion of Tbx2 in neonatal IHCs led to their transdifferentiation into OHCs by repressing 26.7% of IHC genes and inducing 56.3% of OHC genes,including Ikzf2.More importantly,persistent expression of Tbx2 coupled with transient Atohl expression effe ctively reprogrammed non-sensory supporting cells into new IHCs expressing the functional IHC marker vGlut3.The differentiation status of these new IHCs was considerably more advanced than that previously reported.Thus,Tbx2 is essential for IHC development and co-upregulation of Tbx2 with Atohl in supporting cells represents a new approach for treating deafness related to IHC degeneration.

The key to high-level encryption and anti-counterfeiting techniques is the storage of multiple levels of distinct information that can be individually and precisely addressed by certain stimuli.This continues to be a formidable challenge as the concealed images or codes must be read with fast response and high resolution without cross-talk to the first layer of information.Here,we report a non-fluorescencebased strategy to establish responsive encryption labels taking advantage of solely tuning multiple optical patterns of cholesteric liquid crystal(CLC)microdroplets doped with light-driven molecular motors.The photo-triggered unidirectional rotation of the motor induced not only changes in the helical twist power value but the opposite helical orientation of the superstructure in CLCs as well,resulting in changes in both the structural color and the selective reflection of circularly polar light.The designed labels,which featured highly selective addressability of dual-level distinct information,good reversibility,and viewing angle-independence,were applied to build devices for daily practical use,demonstrating great potential in anti-counterfeiting technology and provide a versatile platform for enhanced data protection and encryption of authentic information.
