Prolonged Consumption of Dietary Advanced Lipoxidation End Products contributes to renal impairment in mice through Dysregulated Intestinal homeostasis

Heat processing of food has been well validated as the trigger to generate heat-processing side product of advanced lipoxidation end products (ALEs)， which potentially engenders the threat on systemic health or progression of diseases， especially the accumulated effect after long-term intake. Thus， the study was proposed to evaluate the effect of dietary ALEs on health after long-term ingestion， specifically through simulating the intake of dietary ALE in mice within 9 months to investigate the intervention effect and underlying mechanism. The unexpected observation of renal insufficiency or impairment after long-term intake of dietary ALEs indicated the negative impact on renal health， which has been verified by the pathological analysis. Further studies revealed that a high-ALEs diet disrupted the intestinal barrier， with enhanced impact after disturbing the gut microbiota to potentially lower the abundance of beneficial microbiome through producing nephrotoxic metabolites. Correlation analysis showed that the proliferation of harmful bacteria and the reduction of beneficial bacteria were strongly correlated with intestinal barrier damage and the development of renal insufficiency. Furthermore， the underlying mechanism was unveiled as that ALEs could inhibit AMPK/SIRT1 signaling to fundamentally induce renal inflammation and oxidative stress. Thus， it was revealed that long-term intake of dietary ALE could result in renal impairment， and the results emphasized the control or intervention on dietary ALE to decrease to accumulated impairment on systemic health.

Ultra-wide band gap and wave attenuation mechanism of a novel star-shaped chiral metamaterial

A novel hollow star-shaped chiral metamaterial(SCM) is proposed by incorporating chiral structural properties into the standard hollow star-shaped metamaterial, exhibiting a wide band gap over 1 500 Hz. To broaden the band gap,solid single-phase and two-phase SCMs are designed and simulated, which produce two ultra-wide band gaps(approximately 5 116 Hz and 6 027 Hz, respectively). The main reason for the formation of the ultra-wide band gap is that the rotational vibration of the concave star of two novel SCMs drains the energy of an elastic wave. The impacts of the concave angle of a single-phase SCM and the resonator radius of a two-phase SCM on the band gaps are studied. Decreasing the concave angle leads to an increase in the width of the widest band gap, and the width of the widest band gap increases as the resonator radius of the two-phase SCM increases. Additionally,the study on elastic wave propagation characteristics involves analyzing frequency dispersion surfaces, wave propagation directions, group velocities, and phase velocities. Ultimately, the analysis focuses on the transmission properties of finite periodic structures. The solid single-phase SCM achieves a maximum vibration attenuation over 800, while the width of the band gap is smaller than that of the two-phase SCM. Both metamaterials exhibit high vibration attenuation capabilities, which can be used in wideband vibration reduction to satisfy the requirement of ultra-wide frequencies.

Study on Fly Ash Based Porous Ceramsite as Biological Filter Media

Using fly ash as a raw material,porous ceramic particles with an apparent density of 1.21 g/cm^(3),a visible porosity of 51.03%,and a specific surface area of 4.26 m^(2)/g were prepared and used as biofilter materials for wastewater treatment.Through SEM,XRD analysis,and heavy metal leaching analysis,it was found that porous ceramsite were porous materials with rough surfaces.After calcination,the newly formed mineral was silicate calcium feldspar.The heavy metal concentration in the leaching solution of porous ceramsite met the national surface water quality requirements.The treatment of domestic sewage showed that the volumetric loads of COD Cr,NH_(4)^(+)-N,and TN removed by the aerated biofilter were 5.23,0.98,and 0.35 kg/(m^(3)·d),respectively,with removal rates of 85.46%,96.13%,and 32.31%.

Petrogenesis of early Paleozoic granitoids in the North Qinling Orogen,Central China:Implications for crustal evolution in an accretionary orogen

Accretionary orogens are sites of extensive continental crustal growth and modification.The mechanism by which mafic crust is transformed into silicic melts(i.e.,maturation of continental crust)is important for understanding the formation of the continental crust.The North Qinling Orogen(NQO)is a composite orogenic belt and contains an early Paleozoic accretion-dominated orogenic system,which is ideal for investigating continental crustal maturation.We obtained zircon and monazite U–Pb age and O isotope data,zircon Lu–Hf isotope data,and whole-rock major-and trace-element and Sr–Nd isotope data for early Paleozoic granitoids of the NQO.The granitoids are divided into three groups.Group 1 includes the Taiping tonalite(445±3 Ma),the Manziying syenogranite(445±2 Ma),and the Huoshenmiao granodiorite(436±2 Ma).The Taiping and Huoshenmiao plutons have relatively high SiO_(2)contents(68.64–71.67 wt.%)and Na_(2)O/K_(2)O ratios(1.15–4.19),with enrichments in Rb,Ba,Th,and U and depletions in Nb,Ta,P,and Ti,and they are geochemically similar to sodic arc magmas.The Manziying syenogranite is a peraluminous potassic granite with high K_(2)O contents(4.59–5.27 wt.%).Grantioids from Group 1 have similarly depleted Sr–Nd–Hf–O isotopic features(eHf[t]=+5.9 to+8.8;δ^(18)O=3.98‰–5.41‰),indicative of derivation via partial melting of oceanic arc crust,which suggests that partial melting of oceanic arc crust in a subduction system contributes to the generation of continental crust and causes its maturation.Group 2 consists of the Wuduoshan monzogranite(418±2 Ma)and the Sikeshu granodiorite(423±3 Ma).These plutons have relatively high SiO_(2)(65.59–72.06 wt.%),K_(2)O(3.26–4.79 wt.%),and Al2O3(14.65–16.12 wt.%)contents and Sr/Y(33–87)and(La/Yb)N(23–48)ratios.The Wuduoshan monzogranite has positive zircon eHf(t)(+0.4 to+3.1)and uniformδ^(18)O(6.38‰–8.07‰)values,but the Sikeshu granodiorite has more variable isotopic compositions(eHf[t]=-1.9 to+5.0;δ^(18)O=6.37‰–10.60‰).The Wuduoshan monzogranite and Sikeshu granodiorite have similar who

The rise in wearable electronics has witnessed the advancement of self-healable wires, which are capable of recovering mechanical and electrical properties upon structural damage. However, their highly fluctuating electrical resistances in the range of hundreds to thousands of ohms under dynamic conditions such as bending, pressing, stretching and tremoring may seriously degrade the precision and continuity of the resulting electronic devices, thus severely hindering their wearable applications. Here, we report a new family of self-healable wires with high strengths and stable electrical conductivities under dynamic conditions, inspired by mechanical–electrical coupling of the myelinated axon in nature. Our self-healable wire based on mechanical–electrical coupling between the structural and conductive components has significantly improved the electrical stability under dynamic scenarios, enabling precise monitoring of human health status and daily activities, even in the case of limb tremors from simulated Parkinson's disease.Our mechanical–electrical coupling strategy opens a new avenue for the development of dynamically stable electrodes and devices toward real-world wearable applications.

Encouraging and astonishing developments have recently been achieved in image-based diagnostic technology.Modern medical care and imaging technology are becoming increasingly inseparable.However,the current diagnosis pattern of signal to image to knowledge inevitably leads to information distortion and noise introduction in the procedure of image reconstruction(from signal to image).Artificial intelligence(AI)technologies that can mine knowledge from vast amounts of data offer opportunities to disrupt established workflows.In this prospective study,for the first time,we develop an AI-based signal-toknowledge diagnostic scheme for lung nodule classification directly from the computed tomography(CT)raw data(the signal).We find that the raw data achieves almost comparable performance with CT,indicating that it is possible to diagnose diseases without reconstructing images.Moreover,the incorporation of raw data through three common convolutional network structures greatly improves the performance of the CT models in all cohorts(with a gain ranging from 0.01 to 0.12),demonstrating that raw data contains diagnostic information that CT does not possess.Our results break new ground and demonstrate the potential for direct signal-to-knowledge domain analysis.

Prostate cancer(PCa)is one of the most common malignancies in males worldwide,and its development and progression involve the regulation of multiple metabolic pathways.Alterations in lipid metabolism affect the proliferation and metastatic capabilities of PCa cells.Cancer cells increase lipid synthesis and regulate fatty acid oxidation to meet their growth and energy demands.Similarly,changes occur in amino acid metabolism in PCa.Cancer cells exhibit an increased demand for specific amino acids,and they regulate amino acid transport and metabolic pathways to fulfill their proliferation and survival requirements.These changes are closely associated with disease progression and treatment response in PCa cells.Therefore,a comprehensive investigation of the metabolic characteristics of PCa is expected to offer novel insights and approaches for the early diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Application of Gaussian Beam Summation Migration in Reflected In-seam Wave Imaging

The geological conditions for coal mining in China are complex,with various structural issues such as faults and collapsed columns seriously compromising the safety of coal mine production.In-seam wave exploration is an effective technique for acquiring detailed information on geological structures in coal seam working faces.However,the existing reflected in-seam wave imaging technique can no longer meet the exploration precision requirements,making it imperative to develop a new reflected in-seam wave imaging technique.This study applies the Gaussian beam summation(GBS)migration method to imaging coal seams'reflected in-seam wave data.Firstly,with regard to the characteristics of the reflected in-seam wave data,methods such as wavefield removal and enveloped superposition are employed for the corresponding wavefield separation,wave train compression and other processing of reflected in-seam waves.Thereafter,imaging is performed using the GBS migration technique.The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method for reflected in-seam wave imaging are validated by conducting GBS migration tests on 3D coal-seam fault models with different dip angles and throws.By applying the method to reflected in-seam wave data for an actual coal seam working face,accurate imaging of a fault structure is obtained,thereby validating its practicality.

High-frequency spinal cord stimulation produces longlasting analgesic effects by restoring lysosomal function and autophagic flux in the spinal dorsal horn

High-frequency spinal cord stimulation(HF-SCS) has been established as an effective therapy for neuropathic pain. However, the analgesic mechanisms involved in HF-SCS remain to be clarified. In our study, adult rat neuropathic pain was induced by spinal nerve ligation. Two days after modeling, the rats were subjected to 4 hours of HF-SCS(motor threshold 50%, frequency 10,000 Hz, and pulse width 0.024 ms) in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. The results revealed that the tactile allodynia of spinal nerve-injured rats was markedly alleviated by HFSCS, and the effects were sustained for 3 hours after the stimulation had ceased. HF-SCS restored lysosomal function, increased the levels of lysosome-associated membrane protein 2(LAMP2) and the mature form of cathepsin D(matu-CTSD), and alleviated the abnormally elevated levels of microtubule-associated protein 1 A/B-light chain 3(LC3)-II and sequestosome 1(P62) in spinal nerve-injured rats. HF-SCS also mostly restored the immunoreactivity of LAMP2, which was localized in neurons in the superficial layers of the spinal dorsal horn in spinal nerve-injured rats. In addition, intraperitoneal administration of 15 mg/kg chloroquine for 60 minutes reversed the expression of the aforementioned proteins and shortened the timing of the analgesic effects of HF-SCS. These findings suggest that HF-SCS may exhibit longlasting analgesic effects on neuropathic pain in rats through improving lysosomal dysfunction and alleviating autophagic flux. This study was approved by the Laboratory Animal Ethics Committee of China Medical University, Shenyang, China(approval No. 2017 PS196 K) on March 1, 2017.

Prediction and Measurement Techniques for Radiated EMI of Power Converters with Cables

Recently,radiated electromagnetic interference(EMI)has become a research hotspot in power electronics systems,as the switching frequencies of power electronics systems have increased significantly with the adoption of wide-bandgap devices.In this article,a generalized radiated EMI model for power electronics converters with power cables is first reviewed.The radiated EMI model is then developed for a flyback power converter with critical ground impedance included.Based on the developed model,accurate high-frequency parameter extraction techniques and a radiated EMI prediction technique are developed and experimentally validated.Finally,essential measurement techniques are identified and developed to accurately extract parameters for accurate EMI prediction.The effects of the resolution bandwidth of the spectrum analyzer and critical PCB ground impedance on the radiated EMI are experimentally validated.PCB’s impact on the common-mode(CM)choke’s impedance and the radiated EMI is further validated.Techniques for minimizing the undesired near-field couplings in parameter extraction are discussed.The predicted EMI properly agreed with the measured EMI in the range of 30-230 MHz based on the EN550323 m class B standard.
