Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Evaluation of the Positions of Unerupted Maxillary Canines with Incisor Root Resorption

Purpose: To establish a new coordinate system using the incisive canal and incisive foramen in cases confirmed to have root resorption in the maxillary incisor region by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to investigate the positions of the central and lateral incisor roots and erupting maxillary canine tooth crowns in the horizontal plane. Methods: Nine patients (two males;mean age: 10.5 years old) with suspected incisor root resorption due to erupting maxillary canines on panoramic X-ray images and in whom incisor root resorption was confirmed on CBCT images were evaluated. A control group of 12 patients with a supernumerary tooth on one side (three males;mean age: 8.6 years old) was also examined. X, Y, and Z-axes were defined, and the positions of the centers of the central incisor root (U1) and lateral incisor root (U2) and the canine cusp (U3) were examined, along with alveolar process width and length. Results: In the control group, U1, U2, and U3 were located within a certain range without overlap, while, in the incisor root resorption group, U3 overlapped with U1 and U2 and tended to deviate centrally. U2 tended to be located further posteriorly than U3. The anteroposterior diameter of the alveolar process was 1.2 mm shorter in the incisor root resorption group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The risk of incisor root resorption accompanying canine eruption can be evaluated early by investigating the canine position on a horizontal plane established on the upper anterior tooth dentition CT images with a coordinate system using the incisive canal and incisive foramen.

Hepatitis B virus reactivation associated with antirheumatic therapy: risk and prophylaxis recommendations

Accompanying the increased use of biological and non-biological antirheumatic drugs,a greater number of cases of hepatitis B virus(HBV) reactivation have been reported in inactive hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) carriers and also in HBs Ag-negative patients who have resolved HBV infection. The prevalence of resolved infection varies in rheumatic disease patients,ranging from 7.3% to 66%. Through an electronic search of the Pub Med database,we found that among 712 patients with resolved infection in 17 observational cohort studies,12 experienced HBV reactivation(1.7%) during biological antirheumatic therapy. Reactivation rates were 2.4% for etanercept therapy,0.6% for adalimumab,0% for infliximab,8.6% for tocilizumab,and 3.3% for rituximab. Regarding non-biological antirheumatic drugs,HBV reactivation was observed in 10 out of 327 patients with resolved infection from five cohort studies(3.2%). Most of these patients received steroids concomitantly. Outcomes were favorable in rheumatic disease patients. A number of recommendations have been established,but most of the supporting evidence was derived from the oncology and transplantation fields. Compared with patients in these fields,rheumatic disease patients continue treatment with multiple immunosuppressants for longer periods. Optimal frequency and duration of HBV-DNA monitoring and reliable markers for discontinuation of nucleoside analogues should be clarified for rheumatic disease patients with resolved HBV infection.

Immune checkpoint and inflammation as therapeutic targets in pancreatic carcinoma

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PAC) is one of the most deadly malignant neoplasms,and the efficacy of conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy is far from satisfactory. Recent research studies have revealed that immunosuppression and inflammation are associated with oncogenesis,as well as tumor development,invasion,and metastasis in PAC. Thus,immunosuppressionrelated signaling,especially that involving immune checkpoint and inflammation,has emerged as novel treatment targets for PAC. However,PAC is an immuneresistant tumor,and it is still unclear whether immune checkpoint or anti-inflammation therapies would be an ideal strategy. In this article,we will review immune checkpoint and inflammation as potential targets,as well as clinical trials and the prospects for immunotherapy in PAC.

Noninvasive,glucose-monitoring technologies using infrared spectroscopy that have been studied typically require a calibration process that involves blood collection,which renders the methods somewhat *** develop a truly noninvasive,glucose-monitoring technique using midinfrared spectroscopy that does not require blood collection for calibration by applying domain adaptation(DA)using deep neural networks to train a model that associates blood glucose concentration with mid-infrared spectral data without requiring a training dataset labeled with invasive blood sample *** realizing DA,the distribution of unlabeled spectral data for calibration is considered through adversarial update during training networks for regression to blood glucose *** calibration improved the correlation coeffcient between the true blood glucose concentrations and predicted blood glucose concentrations from 0.38 to *** result indicates that this calibration technique improves prediction accuracy for mid-infrared glucose measurements without any invasively acquired data.

This study aimed to prepare tea tree oil-β-cyclodextrin microcapsules using an optimized co-precipitated *** impact of the volume fraction of ethanol in the solvent system for microencapsulation on encapsulation efficiency was investigated and analyzed ***-high encapsulation efficiency was achieved when a 40%volume fraction of ethanol was used for the microencapsulation procedure,where the recovery yield of microcapsules and the embedding fraction of tea tree oil in microcapsules were as high as 88.3%and 94.3%,***,considering the operation cost,including time and energy consumption,an economical preparation was validated so that it would be viable for large-scale *** on the results of morphological and X-ray diffraction analysis,the crystal structure appeared to differ before and after *** results of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the successful formation of ***,the antibacterial activity of the fabricated microcapsules was assessed by a simple growth inhibition test using Bacillus subtilis as the study object,and the hydrophilic property was proved by a water contact angle measurement.
