Renewable electrocatalytic upgrading of biomass feedstocks into valuable chemicals is one of the promising strategies to relieve the pressure of traditional energy-based *** electrocatalytic carbon–carbon bond cleavage of high selectivity,various functionalized molecules,such as organic acids,amides,esters,and nitriles,have great potential to be accessed from ***,it has merely received finite concerns and interests in the *** review first showcases the research progress on the electrocatalytic conversion of lipid/sugar-and lignin-derived molecules(e.g.,glycerol,mesoerythritol,xylose,glucose,1-phenylethanol,and cyclohexanol)into organic acids via specific carbon–carbon bond scission processes,with focus on disclosing reaction mechanisms,recognizing actual active species,and collecting feasible modification *** the guidance of further extensive studies on biomass valorization,organic transformations via a variety of reactions,including decarboxylation,ring-opening,rearrangement,reductive hydrogenation,and carboxylation,are also disclosed for the construction of similar carbon skeletons/*** remaining challenges,prospective applications,and future objectives in terms of biomass conversion are also *** review is expected to provide references to develop renewed electrocatalytic carbon–carbon bond cleavage transformation paths/strategies for biomass upgrading.

Insights into the divergent evolution of the oceanic squid Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis(Cephalopoda:Ommastrephidae)from the Indian Ocean

Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis is known for its complex population structure with three major transoceanic forms(***-sized,dwarf,and giant forms)whose taxonomic status has been disputed for *** integrated taxonomic study examines these prevenient morphotypes gathered on cruises in the Indian Ocean to ascertain their status in the evolutionary history of the *** analyses employing mitochondrial(COI,ND2)and nuclear(H3)markers revealed four genetically distinct and novel lineages of the species in the Indian Ocean,representing three morphotypes from the Arabian Sea and one from the Southern Indian *** mitochondrial-based phylograms revealed two distinct clades in the species:“dwarf forms+giant form”and“middle-sized forms,”which further branch into geographically structured evolutionary *** delimitation analyses recovered five distinct clades,namely,the Arabian Sea giant and dwarf forms,Equatorial,Eastern Typical,and Other Middle-sized forms,representing the consensus molecular operational taxonomic units.H3 being heterozygous could not resolve the *** network and AMOVA analysis of mtDNA genes indicated explicit phylogeographic structuring of haplotypes,whereas these outputs and PCA results were incongruent with the morphological *** features distinguishing the morphotypes were sometimes plastic and mismatched with the *** giant form was genetically close to the dwarf forms,contradicting the earlier notion that it descended from the middle-sized *** may be assumed that the dwarf form evolved following sympatric speciation and adaptation to warm equatorial waters,while the focal features of the Western Arabian Sea guide toward allopatric speciation of the giant form.

Impact assessment of biofouling resistant nano copper oxide-polyaniline coating on aquaculture cage nets

Biofouling is a major issue in aquaculture cages and nano materials based antifouling strategies became more prominent in recent *** aquaculture cage net surface which is modified with polyaniline and nano-copper oxide(CuO),reported to have biofouling *** of nano CuO from the net to the aquatic environment and its bioaccumulation in fish is the major concern against the technology *** present study aimed to understand the accumulation of copper in fishes grown in a nano CuO treated aquaculture cage *** the leaching pattern of nano CuO,biofouling inhibition and changes in strength of the cage net due to the nano CuO *** grown in the treated cages exhibited normal growth characteristics with no signs of abnormalities and also copper in their organs were within the prescribed standard *** CuO treated cage net exhibited excellent biofouling resistance and the percentage of occlusion of mesh by foulers were 56.77%more efficient than untreated cage *** of nano CuO leached to the aquatic system was less than 8μg/g⋅*** fouling organism assemblage on untreated and treated net was 18 and 11 species,*** calcareous shelled foulers were absent on treated *** study highlighted the potential application of nano CuO treatment to control biofouling in aquaculture cages.

S-Nitrosoglutathione Administration Ameliorates Cauda Equina Compression Injury in Rats

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) causes ischemia, inflammation, demyelination and results in cauda equina (CE) syndrome, with pain and locomotor functional deficits. We investigated whether exogenous administration of S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO), an endogenous redox modulating anti-neuroinflammatory agent, hastens functional recovery in a CE compression (CEC) rat model. CEC was induced in adult female rats by the surgical implantation of two silicone blocks within the epidural spaces of L4-L6 vertebrae. GSNO (50 μg/kg body weight) was administered by gavage 1 h after the injury, and the treatment was continued daily thereafter. GSNO induced change in the pain threshold was evaluated for four days after the compression. Tissue analyses and locomotor function evaluation were carried out at two weeks and four weeks after the CEC respectively. GSNO significantly improved motor function in CEC rats as evidenced by an increased latency on rotarod compared with vehicle-treated CEC rats. CEC induced hyperalgesia was decreased by GSNO. GSNO also increased the expression of VEGF, reduced cellular infiltration (H&E staining) and apoptotic cell death (TUNEL assay), and hampered demyelination (LFB staining and g-ratio). These data demonstrate that administration of GSNO after CEC decreased inflammation, hyperalgesia and cell death leading to improved locomotor function of CEC rats. The therapeutic potential of GSNO observed in the present study with CEC rats suggests that GSNO is a candidate drug to test in LSS patients.
