Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the most common dementia,is characterized by potentially neurotoxic aggregation of Aβ peptide and tau protein,and their deposition as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles(NFTs).Tau aggregation also occurs in other common neurodegenerative *** dementia(FTD)can be caused by tau mutations that increase the susceptibility of tau to hyperphosphorylation and aggregation,which may cause neuronal dysfunction and deposition of NFTs.17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin(17-AAG)is a potent inhibitor of heat shock protein 90(Hsp90),a cytosolic chaperone implicated in the proper folding and functions of a repertoire of client proteins.17-AAG binds to Hsp90 and enhances degradation of Hsp90 client *** sought to determine whether 17-AAG can reduce Aβ and tau pathology in the brains of AD and FTD model mice expressing Aβ or P301L mutant tau,*** were randomized to receive 25,5,or 0 mg/kg 17-AAG thrice weekly from age eight to 11 *** was performed by rotarod test on motor function,on the area occupied by plaques in hippocampus or NFTs in medulla tissue sections,and on mortality.A high dose of 17-AAG tended to decrease NFTs in male mice(p=0.08).Further studies are required to confirm the effect of 17-AAG in diseases of tau aggregation.

空中交通的安全和效率明显受恶劣天气的影响,在机场起飞着陆滑行区域(TMA)尤其如此。在此区域,除了受天气影响之外,潜在的气象回避路线还受到空中交通管制的严格限制。因此气象回避模型DIVMET被开发出来。该模型给出一条建议路线,可以通过正在形成雷暴但尚未在里面实施任何空中交通管制的场地。DIVMET被应用到香港国际机场的TMA区域,因为此处的空中交通管制(ATC)单位有兴趣通过模拟回避路线来提高管制员的工作量,尤其是用于管理进场飞机交通。ATC单位对模拟的回避路线进行目视检查,其结果令人满意,但是商定了用实际观察到的路线对模拟情况进行定量验证。本文选择了香港TMA区域内有雷暴且交通严重扭曲时的两种真实恶劣天气情况。但是,进行任何验证之前的主要目标是识别仅仅受到天气影响但并未显示任何管制标志的路线。在飞行位置数据的基础上完成路线选择,选择若干着陆航班,并分析与标准进场路线的偏差。结果显示,272架航班中大多数同时受到天气和管制的影响(60%),这突出表明空中交通管制员在恶劣天气下要安全有效地管理着陆交通是存在挑战的。只有少数受天气影响的航班(7%)未受到管制,可以用于验证。DIVMET模拟路线被传给当地空中交通管制员,证明了这些路线是潜在切实的回避路线。在TMA区域内的DIVMET气象回避路线模拟有一定参考价值,但是进一步的模型开发必须将管制纳入考虑,至少要考虑停候、近道和减速。

Assessment of Sericin Biosorbent for Selective Dye Removal

The silk sericin is the main residue in silk production and it is found to be a low cost and efficient bio-sorbent. In this study, sericin was characterized with various techniques including SEM （scanning electron micro- scope）, XRD, N2 physisorption, FTIR （Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy） and XPS （X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy）. The nitrogen content of sericin was ca. 8.5 mmol.g-1 according to elemental analysis. Dye adsorption by sericin biosorbent was investigated with the acid yellow （AY）, methylene blue （MB） and copper （II） phthalocyanine-3,4＇4＂4＇＂-tetrasulfonic acid （CuPc） dyes from water. Sericin displayed large capacity for AY andCuPc adsorption with adsorption capacities of respectively 3.1 and 0.35 mmol.g-1, but it did not adsorbed methyl- ene blue dye. This selectivity is due to the basicity of amide groups in seriein biosorbents.

ISIS, which abbreviates Intelligent Speech for InformationSystems, is a trilingual spoken dialog system (SDS) for thefinancial *** handles two dialects of Chinese(Cantonese and Putonghua), as well as English—thepredominant languages in our region. The system supportsspoken language queries regarding stock market informationand simulated personal portfolios. Real-time information isretrieved directly from a dedicated Reuters satellite *** a system test-bed for our work in multilingualspeech recognition and generation, speader authentication,language understanding and dialog modeling. Furthermore,ISIS supports our new explorations in: (i) CORBA‘sinteroperability and scalability for SDS development, (ii)asynchronous human-computer interaction by delegation toKQML software agents;(iii) switching between onlineinteraction and offline delegation in a single dialog thread,and (iv) automatic incorporation of newly listed stocks toexpand our system’s knowledge base.
