Zr-in-rutile thermometry was applied to ultra-high -temperature(UHT) granulites from three localities, Dongpo,Tuguishan,and Dajing/Tuguiwula of the Khondalite *** china *** concentrations of analyzed rutiles were detected by LA-ICP-MS and EMP, which display a mutative composition zoning,a large inter-grain variation,a bimodal distribution at around 1,500 and 6,000 ppm,and no relationship with the textural setting (matrix ***).These characteristics were likely caused by post-peak diffusional resetting associated with slow cooling rates and the presence of a CO-rich fluid. The grains with lower Zr concentrations(～500 to～3,000 ppm) and temperature estimates(～650 to～850℃) occur close to or in contact with zircon,which was easily affected by post-peak processes(for example: diffusion,dissolution/reprecipitation).The lowest temperatures (～650 to～700℃) we obtained represent the closure temperature of *** with higher Zr concentrations (～3,000 to～8,000 ppm) and calculated temperatures (～850 to～1,000℃) were least affected by late resetting,giving near-peak metamorphic temperatures. These temperature results higher than 900℃,even in excess of 1,000℃from the three localities,reconfirm the presence of UHT *** results also suggest that Zr-in-rutile thermometry is valid for ultrahigh-temperature *** addition,there are positive correlations between concentrations of Zr and Hf,Nb and Ta of the investigated rutiles,but the correlations weaken as the concentrations increase,especially for Nb and Ta,implying fractionation of Nb and Ta.

Characteristics and geological significance of olivine xenocrysts in Cenozoic volcanic rocks from western Qinling

Cenozoic volcanic rocks from the Haoti, Dangchang County of the western Qinling Mountains, contain a few clearly-zoned olivines. These olivines are relatively big in grain sizes and usually have cracks or broken features. Their cores have similar compositions （Mg#=90.4-91.0） to those for the peridotitic xenoliths entrained in host volcanic rocks and their rims are close to the compositions of olivine phenocrysts （Mg#=85.5-81.9）. The CaO contents in these zoned olivines are lower than 0.1%. These features demonstrate that the clearly-zoned olivines are xenocrysts and disaggregated from mantle peridotites. The zoned texture was the result of the interaction between the olivine and host magma. Available data show that the volcanic rocks would have been derived from the mantle source metasomatized by subducted hydrathermally-altered oceanic crust. The formation of these Cenozoic volcanic rocks was perhaps related to the rapid uplift of the Tibetan Plateau.

The Paleoproterozoic Khondalite belt in the North china craton preserves evidence for ultrahigh- temperature(UHT) crustal metamorphism associated with the collision of the Yinshan and Ordos *** we apply two-feldspar geothermometry to UHT granulites from two localities newly reported in this study(Tuguishan and Xuwujia) and another two localities from previous studies(Dajing /Tuguiwula and Dongpo) in the Khondalite *** presence of abundant perthite/mesoperthite in these rocks reflects post-peak slow *** minimum estimated peak metamorphic temperatures are 832-998,819-952,844-1037,and 966-1019℃computed at 8 kbar for the Dajing/Tuguiwula, Dongpo,Tuguishan,and Xuwujia areas,*** results confirm the previous report of extreme metamorphism at Dajing/Tuguiwula and Dongpo,and reveal similar conditions in the new localities reported here,suggesting that UHT metamorphism is widespread in the Khondalite belt of the North china *** study demonstrates that UHT metamorphism can be recognized using the two-feldspar geothermometry in rocks that do not possess other key UHT assemblages.

The topographies of the 410-km and 660-km discontinuities have important implications for mantle *** we present high-resolution seismic imaging of the 410-km and 660-km discontinuities beneath the North china Craton(NCC) employing the receiver function *** anomalies(deeper or shallower than the global average depths) at both discontinuities were detected by introducing a three-dimensional regional velocity *** depressions of the 410-km discontinuity are mostly located in the eastern NCC.A local elevation of the 660-km discontinuity appeared in the northwest of the NCC and a significant depression of the 660-km discontinuity is located in the southeast of the *** dynamic mantle regimes are speculated to explain the formation of the anomalous depth zones in the *** possibility is a complex mantle upwelling linked to edge-derived convection between the stagnant slab and the thick cratonic *** other potential dynamic regime is slab stagnating,sinking,and induced upwelling at the neighboring slab *** regimes hint that the mantle flow was possibly dominated by dynamic interactions among the subducting slab,cratonic root,and ambient mantle beneath the NCC.

[1]We investigate the mantle flow pattern and geodynamic cause of North china Craton(NCC)reactivation using shear wave splitting measurements from 140 broadband *** a newly developed method for simulating wave propagation in a two-dimensional anisotropic medium,we first examined the influence of sedimentary structures on SKS splitting *** simulations show that a sedimentary layer,whether isotropic or anisotropic,significantly influences the waveform;however,the shear wave splitting parameters can be retrieved with negligible *** a result,this study included new splitting measurements at stations which were deployed within basins and not used *** 121 broadband stations that contribute valid splitting results,55 stations are newly added which were deployed within basins. This significantly improved the sampling coverage on the *** complicated spatial patterns of the splitting parameters indicate that complex upper mantle deformation has occurred in the *** obtain both deep kinematic and geometric information,we interpret our splitting measurements in the context of new high-resolution tomographic results for the *** comparing our observations with three end-member conceptual models(upwelling,wedge flow,and lithospheric delamination),we found that the observed anisotropy pattern beneath the NCC is not completely consistent with any of ***,we prefer a hybrid mantle flow model,where the subduction of the Pacific Plate causes a mantle wedge flow beneath the eastern Archean block and a regional upwelling beneath the central block which has been imaged as a low velocity anomaly in seismic *** we speculate that the subduction of the Pacific Plate,compared to the NCC-Yangtze Craton amalgamation and the India-Eurasian collision,is most likely the geodynamic cause of the reactivation of the NCC eastern block during the Late Mesozoic to Cenozoic.

Iron isotopes,together with mineral elemental compositions of spinel peridotite xenoliths and clino-pyroxenites from Hannuoba and Hebi Cenozoic alkaline basalts,were analyzed to investigate iron isotopic features of the lithospheric mantle beneath the North china Craton. The results show that the Hannuoba spinel peridotite xenoliths have small but distinguishable Fe isotopic variations. Overall variations inδFe are in a range of-0.25 to 0.14%o for olivine,-0.17 to 0.17‰for orthopyroxene, -0.21 to 0.27‰for clinopyroxene,and-0.16 to 0.26‰for spinel,*** has the heaviest iron isotopic ratio and olivine the lightest within individual *** clear linear relationships between the mineral pairs on"δ-δ"plot suggest that iron isotopes of mineral separates analyzed have been affected largely by some open system *** broadly negative correlations between mineral iron isotopes and metasomatic indexes such as spinel Cr#,(La/Yb) ratios of clinopyroxenes suggest that iron isotopic variations in different minerals and peridotites were probably produced by mantle metasomatism. The Hebi phlogopite-bearing lherzolite,which is significantly modified by metasomatic events,appears to be much heavier isotopically than clinopyroxene-poor lherzolite. This study further confirms previous conclusions that the lithospheric mantle has distinguishable and heterogeneous iron isotopic variations at the xenoliths scale. Mantle metasomatism is the most likely cause for the iron isotope variations in mantle peridotites.

SUMMARY The long-range effects of the ongoing India-Eurasia collision and their role in the Cenozoic tectonic evolution of eastern china are not well ***,we investigate deformation beneath the North china Craton and the Qilian Mountain region between the Haiyuan and Kunlun faults,both of which are located immediately to the northeast of the Tibetan Plateau. We present teleseismic shear wave splitting parameters from 299 broad-band *** stations provided good spatial coverage in mapping upper-mantle deformation beneath the North china Craton and the Qilian *** backazimuth dependence of fast directions from stations located within the Qilian Mountain region indicates a complex anisotropy pattern. A multilayer anisotropy and/or anisotropy with a dipping symmetry axis may exist beneath the Qilian *** overlapping or underthrusting of material evident in anisotropy from this region may be a long-range effect of the India-Eurasia *** central North china Craton showed spatially coherent fast directions and the shear wave velocity anomalies within the upper *** patterns suggest horizontal deflection of a regional mantle upwelling, possibly originating from the mantle transition *** with large delay times was observed in the vicinity of Shanxi rift ***(?)lnV/(?)lnV values for the upper mantle indicate that anisotropy in this area is enhanced by vertically aligned melt-filled *** results suggest that the dynamic processes beneath the central North china Craton are not directly related to the India-Eurasia collision.

The partial pressure of atmospheric CO2（pCO2） is determined by the carbon cycle that involves climate, biogeochemistry, and plate tectonics. In this cycle,atmospheric CO2is converted into organic carbon and carbonates by biological activities and silicate weathering, and buried as sediments. The sediments on the ocean floor are subducted into the Earth’s interior, and subsequently converted back into CO2and outgassed into the atmosphere.

Numerical modeling of geothermal groundwater flow in karst aquifer system in eastern Weibei, Shaanxi Province, china

The quantitative assessment of geothermal water resources is important to the exploitation and utilization of geothermal resources. In the geothermal water systems the density of groundwater changes with the temperature, therefore the variations in hydraulic heads and temperatures are very complicated. A three-dimensional density-dependent model coupling the groundwater flow and heat transport is established and used to simulate the geothermal water flow in the karst aquifers in eastern Weibei, Shaanxi Province, china. The multilayered karst aquifer system in the study area is cut by some major faults which control the regional groundwater flow. In order to calibrate and simulate the effect of the major faults, each fault is discretized as a belt of elements with special hydrological parameters in the numerical model. The groundwater dating data are used to be integrated with the groundwater flow pattern and calibrate the model. Simulation results show that the calculated hydraulic heads and temperature fit with the observed data well.
