Three new alkyl substituted anthraquinone derivatives, trivially named as symploquinones A-C(Compounds 1-3) were isolated from Symplocos racemosa. The structures of these compounds were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses(UV, IR, Mass, ~1 H-and ^(13)C-NMR, and two-dimensional(2D) NMR techniques). The resulting data were also compared with the reported literature. These compounds were then subjected to antibacterial or antibiofilm testing. Compounds 1 and 3 exhibited good antibacterial activity in the concentration range of 160-83 μg·m L^(-1) against Streptococcus mutans, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis. Both compounds were further screened for anti-biofilm activity, which revealed promising activities at sub-MIC concentrations. None of the compounds were found to be active against Klebsiella pneumoniae.

AIM: To clarify human papillomavirus (HPV) involvement in carcinogenesis of the upper digestive tract of virological and pathological analyses. METHODS: The present study examined the presence of HPV in squamous cell carcinomas of the oral cavity (n = 71), and esophagus (n = 166) collected from Japan, Pakistan and Colombia, with different HPV exposure risk and genetic backgrounds. The viral load and physical status of HPV16 and HPV16-E6 variants were examined. Comparison of p53 and p16INK4a expression in HPV-positive and HPV-negative cases was also made. RESULTS: HPV16 was found in 39 (55%) oral carcinomas (OCs) and 24 (14%) esophageal carcinomas (ECs). This site-specific difference in HPV detection between OCs and ECs was statistically significant (P < 0.001). There was a significant difference in the geographical distribution of HPV16-E6 variants. Multiple infections of different HPV types were found in 13 ECs, but multiple infections were not found in OCs. This difference was statistically significant (P = 0.001). The geometric means (95% confidence interval) of HPV16 viral load in OCs and ECs were 0.06 (0.02-0.18) and 0.12 (0.05-0.27) copies per cell, respectively. The expression of p16INK4a proteins was increased by the presence of HPV in ECs (53% and 33% in HPV-positive and-negative ECs, respectively; P = 0.036), and the high-risk type of the HPV genome was not detected in surrounding normal esophageal mucosa of HPV-positive ECs. CONCLUSION: Based on our results, we cannot deny the possibility of HPV16 involvement in the carcinogenesis of the esophagus.

由于石油和天然气消费的不断增加，以及进一步阻止那些富含油气资源的国家按照自己的意愿控制油气的价格所造成的世界各地区的不均衡，现阶段很有必要转向非常规资源的开发。页岩气是一种非常重要的非常规能源，必须进行有效开发。美国在页岩气开发方面拥有最成熟的技术，世界其他各国均需要借鉴他们的技术。Barnett页岩气藏通常被当做最典型的页岩气气藏。本文重点强调页岩气的模拟，以Barnett页岩气藏作为模型。所有的页岩气层都具有其独特的特征。所以本文的第一部分描述了Barnett页岩气藏的特性。长段水平井，水力压裂以及二氧化碳驱是开采页岩气的主要技术。该模拟结果表明通过水力压裂和注二氧化碳对页岩气的优化开采有着明显的效果。这项研究可扩展应用到本油藏区块来寻找合适的井间距和井型。

Control engineering had been the core of all engineering fields all the time. As the name depicts, control of different parameters of various industrial or commercial equipment like plants, vehicles, aircrafts and etc is obtained. Robust and optimal control of these equipments plays a vital role. This paper presents a design of H2 and H∞ control for a Twin Rotor System (TRS). TRS is a multi input multi output (MIMO) nonlinear system. The main objective is to control the angular position of the lever bar of TRS. It is having strong coupling between inputs and outputs. The model is first linearized and then controllers are designed to control the positions of lever bar. Simulations are made in MAT- LAB/SIMULINK. Model parameters are also provided in the end.

Prognostic significance of retinoblastoma gene mutation in retinoblastoma eye with respect to pathological risk factors

Retinoblastoma (Rb) was reported firstly by Benedict is the commonest pediatric intraocular malignant tumor in children younger than 5 years of age. The study was conducted to detect the RB-1 gene for prognostic evaluation in retinoblastoma and to see the frequency of RB-1 gene in our population. This was a retrospective descriptive analytical study. Five years biopsies (January, 2006 to December 2011) of the retinoblastoma, from the Pathology department, was retrieved to see optic nerve involvement in all the retrieved specimens. The study was taken to see the mutation of RB1 gene by immunohistochemistry and PCR. The study plan was approved from Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the University. All the cases showed positivity of abnormal Rb-1 gene proteins expression by Immunohistochemistry staining. On PCR, 51/52 (98%) tumors expressed gene mutation as compared to 100% expression shown by IHC. Out of these, 28/51 (55%) cases showed ONI and ODI with positivity for mutated RB gene. A positive association was seen among RB gene mutation with ONI and ODI (p = 0.05). There were 33/51 (65%) cases who did not show any EOE but showed PCR positivity for RB gene mutation. While there were 18/51 (35%) cases who showed EOE and positivity of PCR for Rb-1 gene mutation and a positive association was seen with EOE and gene mutation (p = 0.005). The most common sequence of mutation was on 13 with 33 cases for double mutation, 12 cases for single and 6 patients for triple pattern of mutation. Most of the double and triple sequences of mutations were associated with ONI, ODI and EOE. We concluded that mutation of RB-1 gene is responsible in causation of the tumors with a positive association with tumor size and tumor extension (optic nerve, and extraocular extension), and mutation affects patients with all ages, both gender and unilateral and bilateral tumors.

BACKGROUND Novel oral anticoagulants(NOACs)were developed as alternatives to vitamin K antagonists,primarily warfarin,as they do not require routine monitoring and have limited drug-drug and drug-food ***,the efficacy and safety of these agents in kidney transplantation are not well *** To assess the profile and safety of NOACs for patients who had kidney transplantation,and to provide recommendations and guidelines on therapeutic strategies in these *** This was a retrospective study carried out among adult patients who were actively on the following NOACs(apixaban,rivaroxaban or dabigatran)in our renal transplantation program from December 2015 to December *** patients were identified primarily through electronic medical record system(patient data linkage).Data on the clinical and laboratory profile of the patients were retrieved and analyzed with SPSS *** Complete data on 42 renal transplant patients were retrieved:59.5%males,90.5%were whites and 66.7%were older than 60 years *** mean duration since renal transplantation of the patients was 8.8±7.4 *** most common risk factors for the development of end-stage renal disease in the subjects were hypertension(19.0%),polycystic kidney disease(19.0%),followed by diabetic nephropathy(16.7%)and chronic glomerulonephritis(16.7%).The main indications for NOACs use in the cohort were atrial fibrillation in 25 patients(59.5%)and venous thromboembolism in 10 patients(23.8%).Overall,29 patients(69%)were treated with apixaban,10 patients(23.8%)with rivaroxaban and 3 patients(7.14%)with ***(0%)thromboembolic events were observed during the one-year period,but 3(7.1%)bleeding events occurred in the cohort consisting of 1 patient treated with rivaroxaban 15 mg daily and 2 patients who received apixaban 2.5 mg twice *** were no significant changes in serum tacrolimus level three days after the initiation of NOACs among patients treated with tacrolimus(

A study was conducted to see the association of retinoblastoma with age, bilaterism, Tumor size, site, grades, involvement of anterior chamber, iris, ciliary body, choroid, sclera and optic nerve, and extraocular extension. This was a retrospective descriptive analytical study. The records of the Institute of Ophthalmology, King Edward Medical University/Mayo hospital, Lahore: Pakistan January 2006-Dec 2011 was analyzed. Five years biopsies (June 2006 to June 2012) of the retinoblastoma, from the Pathology department, was retrieved to see optic nerve involvement in all the retrieved specimens. The mean age was 3.54 ± 1.686 years. There were 15 cases of bilateral retinoblastoma and 37 cases with unilateral neoplasms. The age range of bilateral tumors was 2 - 6 years while the range in unilateral tumor was 1 - 10 years male to female ratio was 1:1.5. Among 52 cases, 37 (71.2%) patients were unilateral retinoblastoma and 15 (28.28%) patients were with bilateral disease. On radiological examination of patients suffering from retinoblastoma by B-Scan (Ultrasound), there were 33 (63.5%) cases with exophytic presentation while 18 (34.6%) cases showed endophytic morphology. On clinical examinations, 28 patients presented with proptosis of (it was the most common presenting sign in our patients, accounting for about 53.8% of cases), 20 cases presented with leucocoria eye with strabismus. 29/52 patients showed involvement with optic nerve, 17 were from 1 - 3 years age and 12 were from 4 - 6 years. Statistically there was no difference in the involvement of optic nerve, disc involvement and extra ocular extension with the age of patients (p = 0.217). There was also no statistical difference seen in age and gender for but a strong association was seen with patient’s presentation, symptoms and size of the tumors and anterior chamber, iris, ciliary body, choroid, sclera and optic nerve, and extra ocular extension. The aims are to review respectively 229 cases of hysterectomy and to find the factor affecting the decision of vaginal hysterectomy. Data collected from medical charts include age, nationality, parity, menopause, history of Dilation and curettage. The following data were obtained: the clinical presentation and the indication for hysterectomy. Postoperative complication includes the estimated blood loss, the number of days in hospital and ICU admission recorded. The route of hysterectomy found that 187 (82%) were abdominal and only 42 (18%) were vaginal. Factors significantly associated with the choice of vaginal approach: age, parity, smaller uterine size and prolapse. Factors affecting the decision of vaginal hysterectomy for treatment of benign diseases are identified as follows: if the age is more than 35 years or if the women already reach menopause, the presenting symptoms are not vaginal bleeding but prolapsed uterus and uterine size is less than 12 weeks.

Low-Noise Amplification, Detection and Spectroscopy of Ultra-Cold Systems in RF Cavities

The design and development of a cryogenic Ultra-Low-Noise Signal Amplification (ULNA) and detection system for spectroscopy of ultra-cold systems are reported here for the operation in the 0.5 - 4 GHz spectrum of frequencies (the “L” and “S” microwave bands). The design is suitable for weak RF signal detection and spectroscopy from ultra-cold systems confined in cryogenic RF cavities, as entailed in a number of physics, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry applications, such as NMR/NQR/EPR and microwave spectroscopy, Paul traps, Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC’s) and cavity Quantum Electrodynamics (cQED). Using a generic Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA) architecture for a GaAs enhancement mode High-Electron Mobility FET device, our design has especially been devised for scientific applications where ultra-low-noise amplification systems are sought to amplify and detect weak RF signals under various conditions and environments, including cryogenic temperatures, with the least possible noise susceptibility. The amplifier offers a 16 dB gain and a 0.8 dB noise figure at 2.5 GHz, while operating at room temperature, which can improve significantly at low temperatures. Both dc and RF outputs are provided by the amplifier to integrate it in a closed-loop or continuous-wave spectroscopy system or connect it to a variety of instruments, a factor which is lacking in commercial LNA devices. Following the amplification stage, the RF signal detection is carried out with the help of a post-amplifier and detection system based upon a set of Zero-Bias Schottky Barrier Diodes (ZBD’s) and a high-precision ultra-low noise jFET operational amplifier. The scheme offers unique benefits of sensitive detection and very-low noise amplification for measuring extremely weak on-resonance signals with substantial low- noise response and excellent stability while eliminating complicated and expensive heterodyne schemes.
