Allergic fungal rhinosinusitis accompanied by allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis: A case report and literature review

Successful treatment of invasive fungal rhinosinusitis caused by Cunninghamella: A case report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Invasive fungal rhinosinusitis(IFR) caused by Cunninghamella is very rare but has an extremely high fatality rate. There have been only seven cases of IFR caused by Cunninghamella reported in English and, of these, only three patients *** this article, we present another case of IFR caused by Cunninghamella, in which the patient was initially treated successfully but then deteriorated due to a relapse of leukemia 2 mo *** SUMMARY A 50-year-old woman presented with a 2-mo history of right ocular proptosis,blurred vision, rhinorrhea and nasal obstruction. Nasal endoscopic examination showed that the middle turbinate had become necrotic and fragile. Endoscopic sinus surgery and enucleation of the right orbital contents were performed successively. Additionally, the patient was treated with amphotericin B both systematically and topically. Secretion cultivation of the right eye canthus showed infection with Cunninghamella, while postoperative pathology also revealed fungal infection. The patient's condition gradually stabilized after surgery. However, the patient underwent chemotherapy again due to a relapse of leukemia 2 mo later. Unfortunately, her leukocyte count decreased dramatically,leading to a fatal lung infection and *** Aggressive surgical debridements, followed by antifungal drug treatment both systematically and topically, are the most important fundamental treatments for IFR.

Collision carcinoma of squamous cell carcinoma and small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the larynx: A case report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Collision carcinoma is rare in clinical practice, especially in the head and neck region. In this paper, we report a case of squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) and neuroendocrine carcinoma(NEC) colliding in the larynx and review 12 cases of collision carcinoma in the head and neck to further understand collision carcinoma, including its definition, diagnosis, and *** SUMMARY A 61-year-old man presented with a 1-year history of hoarseness. Contrastenhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the larynx revealed that the right vocal cord had a nodule-like thickening with obvious enhancement. Laryngoscopy revealed a neoplasm on the right vocal cord, and a malignant tumor was initially considered. A frozen section of right vocal cord was performed under general anesthesia. The pathological result showed a malignant tumor in the right vocal cord. The tumor was excised with a CO_2 laser(Vc type). Routine postoperative pathology showed moderately differentiated SCC with small cell NEC in the right vocal cord. No metastatic lymph nodes or distant metastases were found on postoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography. Because of the coexistence of SCC and NEC, the patient received adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The patient was followed for 8 mo, and no recurrence or distant metastasis was *** The treatment of collision carcinoma in the head and neck region is uncertain due to the small number of cases.

Objectives:Ceruminous adenoma of the external auditory canal(EAC) is a rare type of tumour that is diagnosed ***,the clinical behaviour of these tumours remains ***,we report a case of ceruminous adenoma of the EAC and expression of a hypoxia marker. Methodology:A 78-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of recurrent otorrhoea in the right ear. Surgery was performed by the transmeatal approach with total removal of the *** revealed a ceruminous adenoma. Results:Tumour cells were positive for CK,S-100 protein,Glut-1,HIF-1α,PI3K and *** was no evidence of recurrence at last follow-up 27 months after the operation. Conclusions:Ceruminous adenoma of the EAC is a rare *** treatment of choice is wide local excision with clear *** our knowledge,this is the first report of Glut-1 expression and the PI3K/Akt pathway in ceruminous adenoma of the EAC.

The purpose of this study was to explore factors associated with recurrence of adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACCs).We examined recurrence values of clinicopathologic variables,GLUT-l,p-Akt,and PI3K expression in 42 patients with *** the 42 patients,seventeen developed recurrence after initial *** positive rate of GLUT-1,PI3K,and p-Akt protein in ACC was 38.1%,38.1%,and 50.0%,respectively.T Expression of GLUT-1 or p-Akt or PI3K protein in ACC was higher than that in inflammatory lesions or benign *** study has demonstrated that T stage,a positive resection margin,perineural invasion,surgery without postoperative radiotherapy,and expression of GLUT-1,PI3K,and p-Akt were factors predictive of recurrence by univariate *** multivariable analysis,perineural invasion,resection margin positive and p-Akt were significant predictors of *** surgery is very important for recurrence of *** of GLUT-1, PI3K,and p-Akt may play a role in development recurrence of ACC.
