Cracking the superheavy pyrite enigma: possible roles of volatile organosulfur compound emission

The global deposition of superheavy pyrite(pyrite isotopically heavier than coeval seawater sulfate in the Neoproterozoic Era and particularly in the Cryogenian Period) defies explanation using the canonical marine sulfur cycle system. Here we report petrographic and sulfur isotopic data(δS) of superheavy pyrite from the Cryogenian Datangpo Formation(660–650 Ma) in South China. Our data indicate a syndepositional/early diagenetic origin of the Datangpo superheavy pyrite, withS-enriched HS supplied from sulfidic(HS rich) seawater. Instructed by a novel sulfur-cycling model, we propose that the emission ofS-depleted volatile organosulfur compounds(VOSC) that were generated via sulfide methylation may have contributed to the formation ofS-enriched sulfidic seawater and superheavy pyrite. The global emission of VOSC may be attributed to enhanced organic matter production after the Sturtian glaciation in the context of widespread sulfidic conditions. These findings demonstrate that VOSC cycling is an important component of the sulfur cycle in Proterozoic oceans.

Effects of the Amount of Tetrapropyl Ammonium Hydroxide in Synthesis on TS-1 Properties and Catalytic Performance in Epoxidation of Propylene

Titanium silicalite-1(TS-1) was synthesized by a hydrothermal synthesis method with different amounts of tetrapropyl ammonium hydroxide(TPAOH) as *** as-prepared TS-1 was characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray powder diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared resonance spectroscopy,ultravioletvisible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and nitrogen physical adsorption and desorption,and studied in the propylene epoxidation with hydrogen peroxide in a fixed bed *** results showed that the amount of TPAOH had a strong influence on the grain morphology,the amount of framework Ti,and the average particle sizes of *** the increase of TPAOH amount in the synthesis(the molar ratio of TPAOH/SiO_2 increasing from 0.25 to 0.45),the morphology changed gradually from ellipsoids to cubes,the particle sizes of TS-1 decreased slightly,the amount of the framework Ti increased appreciably,and the catalytic stability in the propylene epoxidation increased ***,all the catalysts had the same selectivity to propylene ***,when the molar ratio of TPAOH/SiO_2 was further increased to 0.55,the particles became large hexagons with the size distribution in a wide range,and the catalytic stability decreased sharply although the amount of the framework Ti increased further,which can be attributed to the long diffusion paths of the reactants in the zeolite.

In the era of rapid development of the city, creating space where people can stop to lead a slow life is one of the ways to improve the quality of life of people. The stay space in residential streets as a place for daily activities of modern people is slow space that is usually ignored. Modern people tend to have a relatively fixed choice of the stay space on the street. This study took East Guangchang Road in Nanchang for example to analyze the factors affecting people's staying activity on the street, the type of stay space, and the existing problems, and put forward a few design suggestions.

Pien Tze Huang(PZH),a class-1 nationally protected traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),has been used to treat liver diseases such as hepatitis;however,the effect of PZH on the progression of sepsis is ***,we reported that PZH attenuated lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced sepsis in mice and reduced LPS-induced production of proinflammatory cytokines in macrophages by inhibiting the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)***,PZH stimulated signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)phosphorylation to induce the expression of A20,which could inhibit the activation of NF-κB and MAPK *** of the bile acid(BA)receptor G protein-coupled bile acid receptor 1(TGR5)in macrophages abolished the effects of PZH on STAT3 phosphorylation and A20 induction,as well as the LPS-induced inflammatory response,suggesting that BAs in PZH may mediate its anti-inflammatory effects by activating ***,deprivation of BAs in PZH by cholestyramine resin reduced the effects of PZH on the expression of phosphorylated-STAT3 and A20,the activation of NF-κB and MAPK signalling,and the production of proinflammatory cytokines,whereas the addition of BAs to cholestyramine resin-treated PZH partially restored the inhibitory effects on the production of proinflammatory ***,our study identifies BAs as the effective components in PZH that activate TGR5-STAT3-A20 signalling to ameliorate LPS-induced sepsis.

Temperature effects on the dynamic response of viscoelastic dielectric elastomer

Viscoelasticity and temperature can significantly affect the performance of a dielectric elastomer. In the current study, we use a thermodynamic model to describe the effect of temperature and viscoelasticity on the electromechanical response undergoing a cyclic electric load by taking into account of the temperature dependent dielectric constant. Because of the significant viscoelasticity in the dielectric elastomer, the deformation and the nominal electric displacement can not keep in phase with the electric field at low frequencies. The results show that the magnitude of the cyclic electromechanical actuation strain increases with the decrease of the temperature and decreases with the increasing frequency, and viscoelasticity can result in significant hysteresis for dielectric elastomers under a relative low temperature and a low frequency.

Constitutive relation of viscoelastic dielectric elastomer

In this paper, we present a modified model describing the constitutive relation of viscoelas-tic dielectric elastomer （DE）. The uniform uniaxial tension-recovery experiment was carried out at different stretching rates. Based on Yeoh hyper-elastic model, model-fitting approach is put forward to obtain the relationship between parameters of Yeoh model and stretching rate, thus the modified model was obtained. From the approximate relationship between harmonic motion and uniform reciprocating motion, the stress-strain curve in the recovery process was also identified through the hysteresis between stress and strain. The modified model, with concise form and evident physical concept, can describe the strong nonlinear behavior between deformation and mechanical stress of the material in a common stretching rate range （from 0.01s^-1 to 0.8s^-1 at least）. The accuracy and reliability of the modified model was examined.
