Oxygen and hydrogen isotope characteristics of different water bodies in the Burqin River Basin of the Altay Mountains,China

Characterization of the spatial and temporal variability of stable isotopes in surface water is essential for interpreting hydrological *** this study,we collected the water samples of river water,groundwater,and reservoir water in the Burqin River Basin of the Altay Mountains,China in 2021,and characterized the oxygen and hydrogen isotope variations in different water bodies via instrumental analytics and *** showed significant seasonal variations in stable isotope ratios of oxygen and hydrogen(δ18O andδ2H,respectively)and significant differences inδ18O andδ2H among different water ***δ18O andδ2H values were mainly found in river water,while groundwater and reservoir water had lower isotope *** water and groundwater showed differentδ18O-δ2H relationships with the local meteoric water line,implying that river water and groundwater are controlled by evaporative enrichment and multi-source recharge *** evaporative enrichment experienced by reservoir water was less significant and largely influenced by topography,recharge sources,local moisture cycling,and anthropogenic *** deuterium excess(d-excess)value of 14.34‰for river water probably represented the isotopic signature of combined contributions from direct precipitation,snow and glacial meltwater,and groundwater *** average annual d-excess values of groundwater(10.60‰)and reservoir water(11.49‰)were similar to the value of global precipitation(10.00‰).The findings contribute to understanding the hydroclimatic information reflected in the month-by-month variations in stable isotopes in different water bodies and provide a reference for the study of hydrological processes and climate change in the Altay Mountains,China.

A novel image super-resolution reconstruction algorithm based on improved GANs and gradient penalty

Purpose–Conventional image super-resolution reconstruction by the conventional deep learning architectures suffers from the problems of hard training and gradient *** order to solve such problems,the purposeof this paperis to proposea novel image super-resolutionalgorithmbasedon improved generative adversarial networks(GANs)with Wasserstein distance and gradient ***/methodology/approach–The proposed algorithm first introduces the conventional GANs architecture,the Wasserstein distance and the gradient penalty for the task of image super-resolution reconstruction(SRWGANs-GP).In addition,a novel perceptual loss function is designed for the SRWGANs-GP to meet the task of image super-resolution *** content loss is extracted from the deep model’s feature maps,and such features are introduced to calculate mean square error(MSE)for the loss calculation of ***–To validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm,a lot of compared experiments are applied on three common data sets,***5,Set14 and *** results have shown that the proposed SRWGANs-GP architecture has a stable error gradient and iteratively *** with the baseline deep models,the proposed GANs models have a significant improvement on performance and efficiency for image super-resolution *** MSE calculated by the deep model’s feature maps gives more advantages for constructing contour and ***/value–Compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms,the proposed algorithm obtains a better performance on image super-resolution and better reconstruction results on contour and texture.

The essential roles of sugar metabolism for pollen development and male fertility in plants

Sugar metabolism plays an essential role in plant male reproduction. Defects in sugar metabolism during anther and pollen development often result in genic male sterility(GMS). In this review, we summarize the recent progresses of the sugar metabolism-related GMS genes and their roles during plant anther and pollen development, including callose wall and primexine formation, intine development, pollen maturation and starch accumulation, anther dehiscence, and pollen germination and tube growth. We predict 112 putative sugar metabolic GMS genes in maize based on bioinformatics and RNA-seq analyses, and most of them have peak expression patterns during middle or late anther developmental ***, we outline the potential applications of sugar metabolic GMS genes in crop hybrid breeding and seed production. This review will deepen our understanding on sugar metabolic pathways in controlling pollen development and male fertility in plants.

Environmental significance and hydrochemical characteristics of rivers in the western region of the Altay Mountains,China

Analysis of environmental significance and hydrochemical characteristics of river water in mountainous regions is vital for ensuring water *** this study,we collected a total of 164 water samples in the western region of the Altay Mountains,China,in *** used principal component analysis and enrichment factor analysis to examine the chemical properties and spatiotemporal variations of major ions(including F-,Cl-,NO_(3)-,SO_(4)^(2-),Li+,Na+,NH4+,K+,Mg^(2+),and Ca^(2+))present in river water,as well as to identify the factors influencing these ***,we assessed the suitability of river water for drinking and irrigation purposes based on the total dissolved solids,soluble sodium percentage,sodium adsorption ratio,and total *** revealed that river water had an alkaline aquatic environment with a mean pH value of *** mean ion concentration was ranked as follows:Ca^(2+)>SO_(4)^(2-)>Na+>NO_(3)->Mg^(2+)>K+>Cl->F->NH_(4)+>Li+.Ca^(2+),SO_(4)^(2-),Na+,and NO_(3)-occupied 83%of the total ion *** addition,compared with other seasons,the spatial variation of the ion concentration in spring was *** analysis of the sources of major ions revealed that these ions originated mainly from carbonate dissolution and silicate *** recharge impact of precipitation and snowmelt merely influenced the concentration of Cl-,NO_(3)-,SO_(4)^(2-),Ca^(2+),and Na+.Overall,river water was in pristine condition in terms of quality and was suitable for both irrigation and *** study provides a scientific basis for sustainable management of water quality in rivers of the Altay Mountains.

In a recent issue of Immunity,Xiao et *** that cholesterol 25-hydroxylase(CH25H)is a novel immunometabolic checkpoint and a potential drug target for tumor immunotherapy[1].Their study elucidated how CH25H influences macrophage polarization and reshapes the tumor microenvironment(TME)by regulating the lysosomal 25-hydroxycholesterol(25HC)content and AMPKa activation(Fig.1).Fehleisen and Busch,two physicians from Germany,independently observed significant tumor regression following erysipelas infection in the late 19th century,and they provided the earliest scientific evidence for tumor immunotherapy[2].To date,immunotherapy has emerged as a focal point in cancer treatment,with the concept of the TME pivotal for understanding cancer initiation and progression[3].

Preliminary analysis of species sensitivity distribution based on gene expression effect

Species sensitivity analysis is one of the major techniques applied to derive water quality criteria. Presently, the toxicity data used for development of water quality criteria are mainly in the biological individual level. With the increase of ecotoxicogenomics toxicity data, it is worth studying whether the gene expression effect data can be used to derive water quality criteria. Taking cadmium, copper and zinc as examples, we analyzed the toxic effects of the three heavy metals by constructing the species sensitivity distribution curves on the basis of extensive toxicity data. The results showed that the rank of species sensitivity for the acute, chronic and gene expression effect toxicity data of cadmium is "chronic>gene>acute". Although the gene expression effect data of copper and zinc are insufficient, the trend of data sensitivity of zinc is similar to cadmium. However, the trend of species sensitivity of copper is different from that of cadmium and zinc with higher sensitivity of gene expression data. It suggested that though the existing data of gene expression effects are not sufficient enough, they have the potential to be used in the development of chronic water quality criteria. For application in the derivation of water quality criteria, illogical test concentration design and insufficient target genes are two main weaknesses in the study of gene expression effects.

Construction of lightweight NiCo-LDH/carbon fiber nanocomposites for broad-band microwave absorption

The rapidly increasing usage of electric technology during the last decades has facilitated the fabrication of high-efficiency microwave absorption(MA)materials(MAMs).In this study,hierarchical NiCo layered double hydroxide(LDH)/carbon fiber(CF)nanocomposites were constructed via simple hydrothermal production,and their MA properties were *** from interfacial polarization,defect-induced polarization,and multiple reflections induced by the hierarchical sheets,the LDH/CF composites delivered a better MA perfor-mance than that by pure CF and *** addition ratio of the LDH also played a vital role in determining the impedance matching and microwave absorption ***,the optimized LDH/CF composites demonstrated an exceptional reflection loss(RL)of-62.47 dB with a thickness of 2.22 mm,and an effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)covering 6.4 GHz(11.6-18.0 GHz)at a 20 wt.%filling ratio,which outperformed the reported CF-based microwave *** to this superior MA,the as-prepared LDH/CF composites demonstrated to be significantly promising for advancing the usage of CF-based MAMs.

Genome-wide analyses on transcription factors and their potential microRNA regulators involved in maize male fertility

Anther development is a programmed biological process crucial to plant male reproduction. Genomewide analyses on the functions of transcriptional factor(TF) genes and their microRNA(miRNA) regulators contributing to anther development have not been comprehensively performed in maize. Here, using published RNA-Seq and small RNA-Seq(sRNA-Seq) data from maize anthers at ten developmental stages in three genic male-sterility(GMS) mutants(ocl4, mac1, and ms23) and wild type W23, as well as newly sequenced maize anther transcriptomes of ms7-6007 and lob30 GMS mutants and their WT lines, we analyzed and found 1079 stage-differentially expressed(stage-DE) TF genes that can be grouped into six(premeiotic, meiotic, postmeiotic, premeiotic-meiotic, premeiotic-postmeiotic, and meiotic-postmeiotic clusters) expression clusters. Functional enrichment combined with cytological and physiological analyses revealed specific functions of genes in each expression cluster. In addition, 118 stage-DE miRNAs and99 miRNA-TF gene pairs were identified in maize anthers. Further analyses revealed the regulatory roles of zma-miR319 and zma-miR159 as well as ZmMs7 and ZmLOB30 on ZmGAMYB expression. Moreover,ZmGAMYB and its paralog ZmGAMYB-2 were demonstrated as novel maize GMS genes by CRISPR/Cas9 knockout analysis. These results extend our understanding on the functions of miRNA-TF gene regulatory pairs and GMS TF genes contributing to male fertility in plants.
