High glucose reduces Nrf2-dependent cRAGE release and enhances inflammasome-dependent IL-1βproduction in monocytes:the modulatory effects of EGCG

Soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products(sRAGE)acts as a decoy sequestering of RAGE ligands,thus preventing the activation of the ligand-RAGE axis linking human ***,the molecular mechanisms underlying sRAGE remain *** this study,THP-1 monocytes were cultured in normal glucose(NG,5.5 mmol/L)and high glucose(HG,15 mmol/L)to investigate the effects of diabetesrelevant glucose concentrations on sRAGE and interleukin-1β(IL-1β)*** modulatory effects of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)in response to HG challenge were also *** enhanced intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation and RAGE *** secretion of sRAGE,including esRAGE and cRAGE,was reduced under HG conditions,together with the downregulation of a disintegrin and metallopeptidase 10(ADAM10)and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)nuclear ***,the HG effects were counteracted by siRAGE and exacerbated by *** immunoprecipitation results showed that Nrf2 binding to the ADAM10 promoter and HG interfered with this *** data reinforce the notion that RAGE and Nrf2 might be sRAGE-regulating *** HG conditions,the treatment of EGCG reduced ROS generation and RAGE ***-stimulated cRAGE release was likely caused by the upregulation of the Nrf2-ADAM10 *** inhibited HG-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation at least partly by stimulating sRAGE,thereby reducing IL-1βrelease.

Spatiotemporal evolution and assembly processes of ammonia-oxidizing prokaryotic communities in 1 000-year-old coastal reclaimed soils

Coastal marshes are transitional areas between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. They are sensitive to climate change and anthropogenic activities. In recent decades, the reclamation of coastal marshes has greatly increased, and its effects on microbial communities in coastal marshes have been studied with great interest. Most of these studies have explained the short-term spatiotemporal variation in soil microbial community dynamics. However, the impact of reclamation on the community composition and assembly processes of functional microbes(e.g., ammonia-oxidizing prokaryotes) is often ignored. In this study, using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and the Ion S5? XL sequencing platform, we investigated the spatiotemporal dynamics, assembly processes, and diversity patterns of ammonia-oxidizing prokaryotes in 1 000-year-old reclaimed coastal salt marshes. The taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity and composition of ammonia oxidizers showed apparent spatiotemporal variations with soil reclamation. Phylogenetic null modelling-based analysis showed that across all sites, the archaeal ammonia-oxidizing community was assembled by a deterministic process(84.71%), and deterministic processes were also dominant(55.2%) for ammonia-oxidizing bacterial communities except for communities at 60 years of reclamation. The assembly process and nitrification activity in reclaimed soils were positively correlated. The abundance of the amoA gene and changes in ammonia-oxidizing archaeal and bacterial diversities significantly affected the nitrification activity in reclaimed soils. These findings suggest that long-term coastal salt marsh reclamation affects nitrification by modulating the activities of ammonia-oxidizing microorganisms and regulating their community structures and assembly processes. These results provide a better understanding of the effects of long-term land reclamation on soil nitrogen-cycling microbial communities.

Electrohydrodynamic(EHD)printing technique,which deposits micro/nanostructures through high electric force,has recently attracted significant research interest owing to their fascinating characteristics in high resolution(<1μm),wide material applicability(ink viscosity 1–10000 cps),tunable printing modes(electrospray,electrospinning,and EHD jet printing),and compatibility with flexible/wearable *** the laboratory level of the EHD printed electronics'resolution and efficiency is gradually approaching the commercial application level,an urgent need for developing EHD technique from laboratory into industrialization have been put ***,we first discuss the EHD printing technique,including the ink design,droplet formation,and key technologies for promoting printing efficiency/*** we summarize the recent progress of EHD printing in fabrication of displays,organic field-effect transistors(OFETs),transparent electrodes,and sensors and ***,a brief summary and the outlook for future research effort are presented.

DPAL-BERT:A Faster and Lighter Question Answering Model

Recent advancements in natural language processing have given rise to numerous pre-training language models in question-answering ***,with the constant evolution of algorithms,data,and computing power,the increasing size and complexity of these models have led to increased training costs and reduced *** study aims to minimize the inference time of such models while maintaining computational *** also proposes a novel Distillation model for PAL-BERT(DPAL-BERT),specifically,employs knowledge distillation,using the PAL-BERT model as the teacher model to train two student models:DPAL-BERT-Bi and *** research enhances the dataset through techniques such as masking,replacement,and n-gram sampling to optimize knowledge *** experimental results showed that the distilled models greatly outperform models trained from *** addition,although the distilled models exhibit a slight decrease in performance compared to PAL-BERT,they significantly reduce inference time to just 0.25%of the *** demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed approach in balancing model performance and efficiency.

Nitrate(NO_(3)^(−))electroreduction reaction(NO_(3)^(−)RR)provides an attractive and sustainable route for NO_(3)^(−)pollution mitigation or energy-saved ammonia(NH3)*** this work,high-quality B and Fe co-doped Co_(2) P hollow nanocubes(B/Fe-Co_(2) P HNCs)are successfully synthesized though simultaneous boronation-phosphorization treatment,which reveal outstanding selectivity,activity,stability for the NO_(3)^(−)to NH_(3) conversion in neutral electrolyte because of big surface area,fast mass transport,superhydrophilic surface,and optimized electronic structure.B/Fe-Co_(2) P HNCs can achieve the high NH3 yield rate(22.67 mg h^(−1) mg_(cat)^(−1))as well as Faradaic efficiency(97.54%)for NO_(3)^(−)RR,greatly outperforming most of non-precious metal based NO_(3)^(−)RR electrocatalysts.

To the Editor:Disability weights(DWs)are essential factors to quantify health losses relating to non-fatal outcomes for estimates of disability-adjusted life years(DALYs).Although national and subnational sets of DWs were published recently in the Chinese mainland,[1]data from only 4925 participants who responded to population health equivalence(PHE)questions used to anchor the 0-1 DWs scale did not include participants from Fujian ***,it remains unknown whether people living in different cities share the same *** study provided an alternative approach using non-parametric regression to locate the DWs scale,as used in European surveys,[2]aimed at measuring DWs at the provincial and subprovincial levels in Fujian.

Distribution of Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes in diabetic kidney disease chronic kidney disease 1-5: a correlation study

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the distribution of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndromes in patients with diabetic kidney disease(DKD) and its related ***: We enrolled 435 patients with DKD, who were not undergoing dialysis, admitted to the Department of Nephrology, First Medical Center, Chinese PLA General Hospital from April 2020 to August *** of their TCM syndromes and related factors was carried ***: The 435 patients included 109, 117, 86, and 123 chronic kidney disease(CKD) 1-2, CKD3, CKD4, and CKD5 cases, respectively. Ocular surface in patients with different degrees of myopia

AIM:To investigate the clinical features of the ocular surface in patients with different degrees of ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 122 participants with myopia in Beijing Tongren Hospital from February to June,*** completing the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)score scale,measurements were taken for refraction,biometric parameters and ocular surface *** prevalence,severity and related parameters of the dry eye among different groups based on axial length(AL)were *** analysis was performed between ocular surface parameters and refraction/biometric measurement ***:Statistically significant differences were observed in refractive error,corneal thickness,anterior chamber depth,and subfoveal choroidal thickness among the groups(all P<0.05).With the increase in AL,the incidence and severity of dry eye increased significantly(P<0.05).Moreover,the tear film break-up time(BUT)shortened(P<0.05),and the corneal fluorescein staining(CFS)points increased significantly(P<0.05).OSDI scores were positively correlated with AL and spherical equivalent(SE;both P<0.05);BUT was negatively correlated with AL,SE,and corneal astigmatism(AST;all P<0.05);Schirmer I test(SIT)results were negatively correlated with AL and SE(both P<0.05).CONCLUSION:AL elongation is a risk factor for dry eye onset in myopic *** longer the AL,the more severe the dry eye is,with the increased CFS spots and tear film ***,SE and AST exhibit negative correlations with dry eye symptom scores and ocular surface parameters.

Microbial-driven ectopic uranium extraction with net electrical energy production

The extraction of uranium (U) from U-bearing wastewater is of paramount importance for mitigating negative environmental impacts and recovering U resources. Microbial reduction of soluble hexavalent uranium (U(VI)) to insoluble tetravalent uranium (U(IV)) holds immense potential for this purpose, but its practical application has been impeded by the challenges associated with managing U-bacterial mixtures and the biotoxicity of U. To address these challenges, we present a novel spontaneous microbial electrochemical (SMEC) method that spatially decoupled the microbial oxidation reaction and the U(VI) reduction reaction. Our results demonstrated stable and efficient U extraction with net electrical energy production, which was achieved with both synthetic and real wastewater. U(VI) removal occurred via diffusion-controlled U(VI)-to-U(IV) reduction-precipitation at the cathode, and the UIVO_(2) deposited on the surface of the cathode contributed to the stability and durability of the abiotic U(VI) reduction. Metagenomic sequencing revealed the formation of efficient electroactive communities on the anodic biofilm and enrichment of the key functional genes and metabolic pathways involved in electron transfer, energy metabolism, the TCA cycle, and acetate metabolism, which indicated the ectopic reduction of U(VI) at the cathode. Our study represents a significant advancement in the cost-effective recovery of U from U(VI)-bearing wastewater and may open a new avenue for sustainable uranium extraction.
