Dietary iron regulates intestinal goblet cell function and alleviates Salmonella typhimurium invasion in mice

Iron is an important micronutrient that plays a vital role in host defenses and bacterial pathogenicity. As iron treatments increase the risk of infection by stimulating the growth and virulence of bacterial pathogens, their roles in anti-infection immunity have frequently been underestimated. To estimate whether adequate dietary iron intake would help defend against pathogenic bacterial infection, mice were fed iron-deficient(2 mg kg-1feed), iron-sufficient(35 mg kg-1feed), or iron-enriched diet(350 mg kg-1feed) for 12 weeks, followed by oral infection with Salmonella typhimurium. Our results revealed that dietary iron intake improved mucus layer function and decelerated the invasion of the pathogenic bacteria, Salmonella typhimurium. Positive correlations between serum iron and the number of goblet cells and mucin2 were found in response to total iron intake in mice.Unabsorbed iron in the intestinal tract affected the gut microbiota composition, and the abundance of Bacteroidales, family Muribaculaceae, was positively correlated with their mucin2 expression. However, the results from antibiotic-treated mice showed that the dietary iron-regulated mucin layer function was not microbial-dependent. Furthermore, in vitro studies revealed that ferric citrate directly induced mucin2 expression and promoted the proliferation of goblet cells in both ileal and colonic organoids. Thus, dietary iron intake improves serum iron levels, regulates goblet cell regeneration and mucin layer function, and plays a positive role in the prevention of pathogenic bacteria.

Role of iron in host-microbiota interaction and its effects on intestinal mucosal growth and immune plasticity in a piglet model

Iron is an essential trace element for both the host and resident microbes in the gut. In this study, iron was administered orally and parenterally to anemic piglets to investigate the role of iron in host-microbiota interaction and its effects on intestinal mucosal growth and immune plasticity. We found that oral iron administration easily increased the abundance of Proteobacteria and Escherichia-Shigella, and decreased the abundance of Lactobacillus in the ileum. Furthermore, similar bacterial changes, namely an increase in Proteobacteria, Escherichia-Shigella, and Fusobacterium and a reduction in the Christensenellaceae_R-7_group,were observed in the colon of both iron-supplemented groups. Spearman's correlation analysis indicated that the changed Fusobacterium, Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria in the colon were positively correlated with hemoglobin, colon and spleen iron levels. Nevertheless, it was found that activated m TOR1 signaling, improved villous height and crypt depth in the ileum,enhanced immune communication, and increased protein expression of IL-22 and IL-10 in the colon of both iron-supplemented groups. In conclusion, the benefits of improved host iron outweigh the risks of altered gut microbiota for intestinal mucosal growth and immune regulation in treating iron deficiency anemia.

Electro-catalytic degradation of sulfisoxazole by using graphene anode

Graphite and graphene electrodes were prepared by using pure graphite as precursor. The electrode materials were characterized by a scanning electron microscope（SEM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD） and cyclic voltammetry（CV） measurements. The electro-catalytic activity for degradation of sulfisoxazole（SIZ） was investigated by using prepared graphene or graphite anode. The results showed that the degradation of SIZ was much more rapid on the graphene than that on the graphite electrode. Moreover, the graphene electrode exhibited good stability and recyclability. The analysis on the intermediate products and the measurement of active species during the SIZ degradation demonstrated that indirect oxidation is the dominant mechanism, involving the electro-catalytic generation of OH and O_2^- as the main active oxygen species. This study implies that graphene is a promising potential electrode material for long-term application to electro-catalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

A new insight into promotion action of Co2+ in Ni-diamond composite electrodeposition

A new insight into the promotion action of Co^2+ on both particle and metal deposition in Ni-diamond composite electrodeposition system was analyzed according to electrochemical measurements. The results showed that the addition of Co^2+ made particles content in deposits increased remarkably. The change of particles content in deposits was related inversely to the change of cathodic zero potential with the increase of the concentration of cobalt sulfate. Zero charge potential of cathode was shifted to much more negative region. The negative shift of the zero potential, combining with positive shift of the zeta potential, increased the electrostatic force between the particle-adsorbed metallic cations and the cathode. It not only benefits to the transportation of particles in solution towards cathode, but also shortens their residence time on cathodic surface. Meanwhile, entry of particles is also promoted. For metals deposition,reduction resistance of metallic cations rises greatly and deposition current at cathodic potentiodynamic polarization decreases after cobalt sulfate has been added into electrolyte. These factors are favorable for increasing particles content in deposits. In addition, physical model of diamond particles deposition state before and after the addition of Co^(2+)has been discussed.

Corrosion Resistance of Graphene-Reinforced Waterborne Epoxy Coatings

Graphene （G） was dispersed uniformly in water and used as an inhibitor in waterborne epoxy coatings. The effect of dispersed G on anticorrosion performance of epoxy coatings was evaluated. The composite coatings displayed outstanding barrier properties against H20 molecule compared to the neat epoxy coating. Open circuit potential （OCP）, Tafel and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） analysis confirmed that the corrosion rate exhibited by composite coatings with 0.5 wt% G was an order of magnitude lower than that of neat epoxy coating. Salt spray test results revealed superior corrosion resistance offered by the composite coating.

Comparison of DAA and PLA Approaches for Total Hip Replacement in the Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures

Objectives: Femoral neck fractures are becoming more common within nowadays. This research is to explore the clinical effect of primary total hip replacement (THA) via direct anterior approach (DAA) and posterolateral approach (PLA) in the treatment of femoral neck fracture. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 100 cases of elderly patients with femoral neck fracture who underwent total hip arthroplasty admitted to Tianyou Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University of Science and Technology from January 2019 to January 2022. 50 patients treated with DAA approach were included in the observation group, and 50 patients treated with PLA approach were included in the control group. The operation indexes, postoperative acetabular abduction angle and anteversion angle, hip joint function, Harris score and complications were compared between the two groups. Result: The length of incision in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group, and the amount of intraoperative bleeding and postoperative hospital stay were shorter than those in the control group (P 0.05);Harris score of hip joint: 6 months after operation, the anterior approach group was significantly higher than the posterolateral approach group (P 0.05);The total incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P Conclusion: DAA and PLA approaches for total hip replacement can restore the hip joint structure of patients with femoral neck fractures and achieve good results, but DAA

为解决岩质边坡块体在地震作用下的动力稳定性评价问题,基于结构面的循环剪切数值试验研究结构面的震动劣化效应,从而构建结构面震动劣化数学模型;结合坐标投影原理提出考虑结构面强度震动劣化效应的块体动力稳定性系数计算方法;基于数值分析法研究地震波波动特性对岩质边坡块体稳定性的影响,并进一步基于突变理论提出位移动力响应放大系数突变判据,最后形成一套以块体动力稳定性系数时程曲线和位移动力响应放大系数共同评价块体动力稳定性的评价体系,拓展地震作用下块体动力稳定性评价新思路。研究表明,结构面震动劣化效应不仅受循环剪切幅值、循环剪切次数及相对运动速度影响,还与起伏角度密切相关;通过算例证实了考虑结构面震动劣化的块体动力稳定性系数计算方法的准确性,所提出的以块体动力稳定性系数时程曲线和位移动力响应放大系数的共同评价体系更加安全可靠,将促进块体动力稳定性理论的发展,对边坡地质灾害的防治具有重要的科学意义和应用价值。

推动有条件的地区率先行动是“全国一盘棋”实现双碳目标的必然选项.考虑到中国各省的差异性,研究基于碳排放空间分配测算各省达峰压力,进而从达峰压力、减排现状、经济发展、政策支持和资源禀赋这5个维度构建省域碳达峰能力评价体系,采用熵值法确定指标权重,对中国除香港、澳门、台湾地区和西藏以外的30个省级行政区进行碳达峰能力综合评价,基于评价结果将各省划分为5个梯队.结果表明:(1)海南和北京等18地的碳排放空间呈现盈余,河北和山东等8地碳排放空间呈现赤字,另有浙江、安徽、河南和湖北这4地分配所得的碳排放空间与各自实际排放量相当;(2)发达地区碳达峰能力普遍高于欠发达地区,其中北京和上海等地碳达峰能力尤为突出,江西和贵州等地碳达峰能力提升空间较大.最后,针对不同达峰梯队的省份,因地制宜地提出差异化达峰目标和行动建议.

研究旨在运用高效液相色谱法(HPLC)建立饲用植物迷迭香提取物的特征图谱,为迷迭香提取物的辨别和质量控制提供新的方法。采用Sunfire C18色谱柱,以乙腈-0.1%甲酸水为流动相,以1.0 mL/min的流速、10µL的样品进样量、25℃的柱温、280 nm的紫外吸收波长作为液相色谱条件进行检测。结果显示:试验选取的15批迷迭香提取物色图谱中分离度、峰型较好的8个峰为特征峰,指认了迷迭香酸、鼠尾草酸、鼠尾草酚3个色谱峰,建立了迷迭香提取物的HPLC特征图谱。试验所建立的迷迭香提取物特征图谱实现了对其质量的稳定控制,可为迷迭香提取物质量评价提供参考。
