A survey of energy-efficient strategies for federated learning in mobile edge computing

With the booming development of fifth-generation network technology and Internet of Things,the number of end-user devices(EDs)and diverse applications is surging,resulting in massive data generated at the edge of *** process these data eficiently,the innovative mobile edge computing(MEC)framework has emerged to guarantee low latency and enable eficient computing close to the user ***,federated learning(FL)has demonstrated its empirical success in edge computing due to its privacy-preserving ***,it becomes a promising solution for analyzing and processing distributed data on EDs in various machine learning tasks,which are the major workloads in ***,EDs are typically powered by batteries with limited capacity,which brings challenges when performing energy-intensive FL *** address these challenges,many strategies have been proposed to save energy in *** the absence of a survey that thoroughly summarizes and classifies these strategies,in this paper,we provide a comprehensive survey of recent advances in energy-efficient strategies for FL in ***,we first introduce the system model and energy consumption models in FL,in terms of computation and *** we analyze the challenges regarding improving energy efficiency and summarize the energy-efficient strategies from three perspectives:learning-based,resource allocation,and client *** conduct a detailed analysis of these strategies,comparing their advantages and ***,we visually illustrate the impact of these strategies on the performance of FL by showcasing experimental ***,several potential future research directions for energy-efficient FL are discussed.

Cu-substituted nickel hexacyanoferrate with tunable reaction potentials for superior ammonium ion storage

In this work,a variety of Cu_(x)Ni_(2-x)Fe(CN)_(6)(x=0,0.4,0.8,1.2,1.6,2)cathodes for ammonium ion batteries are prepared and their electrochemical performances are *** the introduction of copper in nickel hexacyanoferrate,the electrochemical performance varies without changing the structure of nickel *** increase of Cu content in nickel hexacyanoferrate leads to the enhancement of reaction potential and *** results suggest that the substitution of Cu for Ni has a positive effect on improving the cycling stability and rate capacity of nickel hexacyanoferrate when x in Cu_(x)Ni_(2-x)Fe(CN)_(6)is less than ***,Cu_(0.4)Ni_(1.6)Fe(CN)_(6)exhibits the best cycling per-formance(capacity retention of 97.54%at 0.3 C)and the highest rate capacity(41.4 mAh g^(-1)at 10 C)in Cu_(x)Ni_(2-x)Fe(CN)_(6).Additionally,the X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)tests also reveal that the structural evolution of Cu_(0.4)Ni_(1.6)Fe(CN)_(6)is highly reversible upon NH_(4)^(+)***,this work proposes a candidate material for ammoniumion batteries and offers a novel avenue for adjusting the operating potential of the material.

BACKGROUND Eosinophilia is an increase of more than 0.5×109/L in the number of eosinophils;it is a systemic condition with an unknown etiology and is often accompanied by multiple impaired organ *** clinical manifestations of the disease are highly variable and diverse,rendering identification of the diagnosis challenging;hence,diagnosis and treatment are often *** few reports of this disease exist globally,especially with rare manifestations of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and *** SUMMARY A 32-year-old woman with eosinophilia presented to the hospital with bilateral lower-limb edema as the first clinical manifestation,followed by an extensive maculopapular rash throughout the *** subsequently developed cerebral venous sinus thrombosis along with bilateral lower-limb deep vein *** weeks earlier,she had received a single course of antibiotics from a local hospital for a low-grade fever and sore *** various treatments were administered for anticoagulation,maintaining blood circulation,and relieving blood stasis,the lower extremity edema improved significantly;however,the patient’s eosinophil count gradually *** experienced cerebral venous sinus thrombosis,cerebral hemorrhage,and deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs before being declared brain *** this case report,we have elaborated the diagnosis and management of deep vein thrombosis manifested as eosinophilia,thrombocytopenia,and elevated D-dimer *** Because proper diagnosis is challenging,clinical vigilance is required for patients with eosinophilia,as it can lead to thrombus formation.

Two different autorefractors for vision screening in children and adolescents

AIM:To compare the consistency of two autorefractors(Tianle RM-9000 and Topcon KR-800)for school-age myopia children,and to provide a basis for largescale data analysis and ***:The refractive error in 909 subjects(age 4–18y)were measured using both autorefractors without *** data were analyzed using Fourier decomposition and the correlation coefficients,intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC),and Bland-Altman limits of agreement(LoA)for each parameter were ***:There was a strong correlation between the spherical equivalent(SE),sphere diopter(DS),and cylinder diopter(DC)readings of the Tianle RM-9000 and those of the Topcon KR-800,with correlation coefficient values of 0.98,0.98 and 0.83 and ICC values of 0.99,0.99 and 0.93,***,the correlation coefficients and ICC values of J0 and J45 were unreliable(R=-0.004,-0.034;both ICC<0.10).Bland-Altman analysis revealed that SE,DS,and DC measured by the Tianle RM-9000 were significantly biased toward myopia compared with the Topcon KR-800,and the mean differences were-0.072,-0.026,-0.091 D,respectively(all P<0.01).The minimum absolute value of the difference within the 95%LoA for SE,DS,and DC was 0.63 D,0.50 D,0.62 D,respectively;all these values were in the clinically acceptable *** J0 and J45,the mean differences were close to zero(P=0.43,0.84);however,the 95%LoA were relatively wide(J0 SD:0.53;95%CI:-1.00,1.10;J45 SD:0.52;95%CI:-1.00,1.00).CONCLUSION:The two autorefractors are consistent with each other,as the differences in SE,DS,and DC were within the clinically acceptable *** can compare the data measured by either device in different studies and use the two devices in the same study to generate a dataset that can be analyzed ***,the J0 and J45 vectors are unreliable and should not be used to assess astigmatism.

To the Editor:We read with great interest the article by Schulze et ***“Robotic surgery and liver transplantation:A single-center experience of 501 robotic donor hepatectomies”[1].It is the first single-center report including over 500 fully robotic donor *** the donors,the overall complication rate was 6.4%(n=32).Postoperative self-limiting bleeding(0.4%)and bile leakage from the resection plane(1.8%)were rare.

Research on Hepatocyte Regulation of PCSK9-LDLR and Its Related Drug Targets

The prevalence of hyperlipidemia has increased significantly due to genetic, dietary, nutritional and pharmacological factors, and has become one of the most common pathological conditions in humans. Hyperlipidemia can lead to a range of diseases such as atherosclerosis, stroke, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, diabetes, and kidney failure, etc. High circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is one of the causes of hyperlipidemia. LDL-C in the blood binds to LDL receptor (LDLR) and regulates cholesterol homeostasis through endocytosis. In contrast, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) mediates LDLR degradation via the intracellular and extracellular pathways, leading to hyperlipidemia. Targeting PCSK9-synthesizing transcription factors and downstream molecules are important for development of new lipid-lowering drugs. Clinical trials regarding PCSK9 inhibitors have demonstrated a reduction in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease events. The purpose of this review was to explore the target and mechanism of intracellular and extracellular pathways in degradation of LDLR and related drugs by PCSK9 in order to open up a new pathway for the development of new lipid-lowering drugs.

Mismatch analysis of all-fiber coherent beam combiners based on the self-imaging effect

All-fiber coherent beam combiners based on the self-imaging effect can achieve a near-perfect single laser beam,which can provide a promising way to overcome the power limitation of a single-fiber *** of the key points is combining efficiency,which is determined by various mismatches during fabrication.A theoretical model has been built,and the mismatch error is analyzed numerically for the first *** mismatch errors have been numerically studied with the beam quality and combining efficiency being chosen as the evaluation *** tolerance of each mismatch error for causing 1%loss is calculated to guide the design of the beam *** simulation results are consistent with the experimental results,which show that the mismatch error of the square-core fiber is the main cause of the efficiency *** results can provide useful guidance for the fabrication of all-fiber coherent beam combiners.

In addition to their pivotal roles in energy storage and expenditure,adipose tissues play a crucial part in the secretion of bioactive molecules,including peptides,lipids,metabolites,and extracellular vesicles,in response to physiological stimulation and met-abolic *** secretory factors,through autocrine and paracrine mechanisms,regulate various processes within adipose *** processes include adipogenesis,glucose and lipid metabolism,inflammation,and adaptive thermogenesis,all of which are essential for the maintenance of the balance and functionality of the adipose tissue micro-environment.A subset of these adipose-derived secretory factors can enter the circulation and target the distant tissues to regulate appetite,cognitive function,energy expenditure,insulin secretion and sensitivity,gluconeogenesis,cardiovascular remodeling,and exercise *** this review,we highlight the role of adipose-derived secretory factors and their signaling pathways in modulating meta-bolic ***,we delve into the alterations in both the content and secretion processes of these factors under various physiological and pathological conditions,shedding light on potential pharmacological treatment strategies for related diseases.

Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion is one of the pathophysiological mechanisms contributing to cognitive decline by causing white matter *** phagocytosing myelin debris in a timely manner can promote remyelination and contribute to the repair of white ***,milk fat globule-epidermal growth factor-factor 8(MFG-E8),a microglial phagocytosis-related protein,has not been well studied in hypoperfusion-related cognitive *** found that the expression of MFG-E8 was significantly decreased in the brain of mice after bilateral carotid artery stenosis(BCAS).MFG-E8 knockout mice demonstrated more severe BCAS-induced cognitive impairments in the behavioral *** addition,we discovered that the deletion of MFG-E8 aggravated white matter damage and the destruction of myelin microstructure through fluorescent staining and electron ***,MFG-E8 overexpression by AAV improved white matter injury and increased the number of mature oligodendrocytes after ***,in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that MFG-E8 could enhance the phagocytic function of microglia via theαVβ3/αVβ5/Rac1 pathway and IGF-1 production to promote the differentiation of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells into mature ***,we found that MFG-E8 was mainly derived from astrocytes,not *** findings suggest that MFG-E8 is a potential therapeutic target for cognitive impairments following cerebral hypoperfusion.
