Parkinson’s disease is typically characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars *** studies have been performed based on the supplementation of lost dopaminergic neurons to treat Parkinson’s *** initial strategy for cell replacement therapy used human fetal ventral midbrain and human embryonic stem cells to treat Parkinson’s disease,which could substantially alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in clinical ***,ethical issues and tumor formation were limitations of its clinical *** pluripotent stem cells can be acquired without sacrificing human embryos,which eliminates the huge ethical barriers of human stem cell *** widely considered neuronal regeneration strategy is to directly reprogram fibroblasts and astrocytes into neurons,without the need for intermediate proliferation states,thus avoiding issues of immune rejection and tumor *** induced pluripotent stem cells and direct reprogramming of lineage cells have shown promising results in the treatment of Parkinson’s ***,there are also ethical concerns and the risk of tumor formation that need to be *** review highlights the current application status of cell reprogramming in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease,focusing on the use of induced pluripotent stem cells in cell replacement therapy,including preclinical animal models and progress in clinical *** review also discusses the advancements in direct reprogramming of lineage cells in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease,as well as the controversy surrounding in vivo *** findings suggest that cell reprogramming may hold great promise as a potential strategy for treating Parkinson’s disease.

Optimal investment based on relative performance and weighted utility

This paper studies the optimal portfolio allocation of a fund manager when he bases decisions on both the absolute level of terminal relative performance and the change value of terminal relative performance comparison to a predefined reference point. We find the optimal investment strategy by maximizing a weighted average utility of a concave utility and an Sshaped utility via a concavification technique and the martingale method. Numerical results are carried out to show the impact of the extent to which the manager pays attention to the change of relative performance related to the reference point on the optimal terminal relative performance.

Study on the force chain characteristics with coal dust layer and the three-body contact stiffness

To explore the influence of the meso-mechanical behaviors of the wet coal dust layers on the contact stiffness of mechanical bonding surfaces,a three-body contact model incorporating an interface with wet coal dust was constructed based on breakage *** model considered the mechanical surface morphology and contact characteristics of the wet coal *** force chain evolution laws of the wet coal dust layer were elucidated under the effects of gap filling and the cover layer,and the bearing characteristics of the three-body contact bonding surfaces were revealed by quantitative analyses of the number,length,collimation coefficient,and coordination number of the force chains within the wet coal dust ***,the three-body normal contact stiffness under various preload forces was computed and experimentally *** results demonstrate that the external load transfer path of the three-body contact bonding surfaces was from mechanical surface(macroscopic stress)to wet coal dust layer(mesoscopic force chains)and then to mechanical surface(peaks and valleys).The interactions among these three elements contributed to transforming the distributions of the macroscopic stresses and mesoscopic force chains to the locations at the peaks and valleys of the mechanical *** them,the proportion of short force chains in the wet coal dust layer increased from approximately 0.8％-91％,while the proportion of long force chains exhibited an opposite changing *** force chain colli-mation coefficient initially increased and subsequently stabilized,reaching a maximum value of 0.93.A large number of broken,small particles in the wet coal dust layer mainly served to fill the gaps among large *** maximum relative error between the experimental and simulated values on the three-body contact stiffness is 7.26％,indicating that the simulation results can be an approximate substitute for the experimental results with a certain degree of accuracy and practi

Multi-scale Modeling and Finite Element Analyses of Thermal Conductivity of 3D C/SiC Composites Fabricating by Flexible-Oriented Woven Process

Thermal conductivity is one of the most significant criterion of three-dimensional carbon fiber-reinforced SiC matrix composites(3D C/SiC).Represent volume element(RVE)models of microscale,void/matrix and mesoscale proposed in this work are used to simulate the thermal conductivity behaviors of the 3D C/SiC *** entirely new process is introduced to weave the preform with three-dimensional orthogonal *** 3D steady-state analysis step is created for assessing the thermal conductivity behaviors of the composites by applying periodic temperature boundary *** RVE models of cuboid,hexagonal and fiber random distribution are respectively developed to comparatively study the influence of fiber package pattern on the thermal conductivities at the ***,the effect of void morphology on the thermal conductivity of the matrix is analyzed by the void/matrix *** prediction results at the mesoscale correspond closely to the experimental *** effect of the porosities and fiber volume fractions on the thermal conductivities is also taken into *** multi-scale models mentioned in this paper can be used to predict the thermal conductivity behaviors of other composites with complex structures.

A benchmark-based method for evaluating hyperparameter optimization techniques of neural networks for surface water quality prediction

Neural networks(NNs)have been used extensively in surface water prediction tasks due to computing algorithm improvements and data *** essential step in developing an NN is the hyperparameter *** practice,it is common to manually determine hyperparameters in the studies of NNs in water resources *** may result in considerable randomness and require significant computation time;therefore,hyperparameter optimization(HPO)is *** study adopted five representatives of the HPO techniques in the surface water quality prediction tasks,including the grid sampling(GS),random search(RS),genetic algorithm(GA),Bayesian optimization(BO)based on the Gaussian process(GP),and the tree Parzen estimator(TPE).For the evaluation of these techniques,this study proposed a method:first,the optimal hyperparameter value sets achieved by GS were regarded as the benchmark;then,the other HPO techniques were evaluated and compared with the benchmark in convergence,optimization orientation,and consistency of the optimized *** results indicated that the TPE-based BO algorithm was recommended because it yielded stable convergence,reasonable optimization orientation,and the highest consistency rates with the benchmark *** optimization consistency rates via TPE for the hyperparameters hidden layers,hidden dimension,learning rate,and batch size were 86.7%,73.3%,73.3%,and 80.0%,*** the evaluation of HPO techniques directly based on the prediction performance of the optimized NN in a single HPO test,the proposed benchmark-based HPO evaluation approach is feasible and robust.

This paper investigates the anomaly-resistant decentralized state estimation(SE) problem for a class of wide-area power systems which are divided into several non-overlapping areas connected through transmission lines. Two classes of measurements(i.e., local measurements and edge measurements) are obtained, respectively, from the individual area and the transmission lines. A decentralized state estimator, whose performance is resistant against measurement with anomalies, is designed based on the minimum error entropy with fiducial points(MEEF) criterion. Specifically, 1) An augmented model, which incorporates the local prediction and local measurement, is developed by resorting to the unscented transformation approach and the statistical linearization approach;2) Using the augmented model, an MEEF-based cost function is designed that reflects the local prediction errors of the state and the measurement;and 3) The local estimate is first obtained by minimizing the MEEF-based cost function through a fixed-point iteration and then updated by using the edge measuring information. Finally, simulation experiments with three scenarios are carried out on the IEEE 14-bus system to illustrate the validity of the proposed anomaly-resistant decentralized SE scheme.

Reliable calculations of nuclear binding energies by the Gaussian process of machine learning

Reliable calculations of nuclear binding energies are crucial for advancing the research of nuclear physics. Machine learning provides an innovative approach to exploring complex physical problems. In this study, the nuclear binding energies are modeled directly using a machine-learning method called the Gaussian process. First, the binding energies for 2238 nuclei with Z > 20 and N > 20 are calculated using the Gaussian process in a physically motivated feature space, yielding an average deviation of 0.046 MeV and a standard deviation of 0.066 MeV. The results show the good learning ability of the Gaussian process in the studies of binding energies. Then, the predictive power of the Gaussian process is studied by calculating the binding energies for 108 nuclei newly included in AME2020. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental data, reflecting the good predictive power of the Gaussian process. Moreover, the α-decay energies for 1169 nuclei with 50 ≤ Z ≤ 110 are derived from the theoretical binding energies calculated using the Gaussian process. The average deviation and the standard deviation are, respectively, 0.047 MeV and 0.070 MeV. Noticeably, the calculated α-decay energies for the two new isotopes ^ (204 )Ac(Huang et al. Phys Lett B 834, 137484(2022)) and ^ (207) Th(Yang et al. Phys Rev C 105, L051302(2022)) agree well with the latest experimental data. These results demonstrate that the Gaussian process is reliable for the calculations of nuclear binding energies. Finally, the α-decay properties of some unknown actinide nuclei are predicted using the Gaussian process. The predicted results can be useful guides for future research on binding energies and α-decay properties.

A comparative investigation on wear behaviors of physical and chemical vapor deposited bronze coatings for hydraulic piston pump

The cylinder block/valve plate interface is one of the most critical frictional interfaces of the swashplate-type axial piston ***,the poor lubrication interface caused rapid wear and high friction loss in an elastohydrodynamic lubrication system,decreasing the pump *** resistant bronze coatings were fabricated on 38CrMoAl substrate by Physical Vapor Deposition(PVD)and Chemical Vapor Deposition(CVD),***-on-disc wear tests were performed to comparatively investigate the wear behaviors of the coatings and bulk ductile iron *** can be found that the PVD-bronze coating exhibited better wear resistance than the other two *** enhanced wear resistance was attributed to the unique composite microstructure and desired mechanical strength,which could resist to mechanical shear and spallation,decreasing friction *** appropriate hardness of(1.33±0.07)GPa could be beneficial for enhancing its wear *** PVD-bronze coating possessed a much lower and stable coefficient of friction(about 0.1)and wear rate(about 6000μm3.N-1.m-1)under the loading forces of about 100 N after 20 *** wear mechanism was the abrasive wear.
