Coupled interactive effects of ammonia and hydrogen additions on ethylene diffusion flames: A detailed kinetic study

In order to create effective combustion technologies and fuels with low or no carbon emissions,the research was conducted to assess the coupled interactive effects of NH_(3) and H_(2) additions on ethylene counterflow diffusion flames from a kinetic perspective.The effects of the NH_(3)/H_(2) combination on flame temperatures,major species,key radicals,important intermediate species,representative oxygenated species and NO_xwere examined.The results of the study utilizing fictitious inert NH_(3) and/or H_(2) revealed the chemical effects of the two components.It was found that the NH_(3)/H_(2) coupled effects had a more effective inhibitory effect on soot precursors than the effects of corresponding sum of single NH_(3) or H_(2) addition.The production of soot precursors was promoted by the coupled chemical effects of NH_(3) and H_(2),but the coupled dilution and thermal effects were observed to have a greater impact,resulting in a decrease of the mole fractions of soot precursors.As for the interaction of NH_(3) and H_(2) effects,the presence of H_(2) decreased the chemical effects of NH_(3) on the augmentation of C_(2)H_(2),A1,A2,and CH_(3)CHO mole fractions.The NH_(3) addition alleviated the H_(2) chemical effects on increasing C_(2)H_(2),C_(3)H_(3),A1 and A2 concentrations.Conversely,the NH_(3)chemical effects on C_(3)H_(3),OH and CH_(3)CHO were enhanced when H_(2) was added.The presence of NH_(3) augmented the chemical effects of H_(2) on the growth of OH mole fraction.Moreover,the H_(2) chemical effects hindered the production of NO and NO_(2) in the presence of NH_(3).

Path-Following Control With Obstacle Avoidance of Autonomous Surface Vehicles Subject to Actuator Faults

This paper investigates the path-following control problem with obstacle avoidance of autonomous surface vehicles in the presence of actuator faults,uncertainty and external disturbances.Autonomous surface vehicles inevitably suffer from actuator faults in complex sea environments,which may cause existing obstacle avoidance strategies to fail.To reduce the influence of actuator faults,an improved artificial potential function is constructed by introducing the lower bound of actuator efficiency factors.The nonlinear state observer,which only depends on measurable position information of the autonomous surface vehicle,is used to address uncertainties and external disturbances.By using a backstepping technique and adaptive mechanism,a path-following control strategy with obstacle avoidance and fault tolerance is designed which can ensure that the tracking errors converge to a small neighborhood of zero.Compared with existing results,the proposed control strategy has the capability of obstacle avoidance and fault tolerance simultaneously.Finally,the comparison results through simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Optimal investment based on relative performance and weighted utility

This paper studies the optimal portfolio allocation of a fund manager when he bases decisions on both the absolute level of terminal relative performance and the change value of terminal relative performance comparison to a predefined reference point. We find the optimal investment strategy by maximizing a weighted average utility of a concave utility and an Sshaped utility via a concavification technique and the martingale method. Numerical results are carried out to show the impact of the extent to which the manager pays attention to the change of relative performance related to the reference point on the optimal terminal relative performance.

BACKGROUND The prognostic value of coronary collateral circulation(CC)in patients undergoing chronic total occlusion(CTO)percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)is underdetermined.The purpose of the study was to assess the prognostic value of current two CC grading systems and their association with long-term outcomes in patients with CTO underwent PCI.METHODS We consecutively enrolled patients with single-vessel CTO underwent PCI between January 2010 and December2013.All patients were categorized into well-developed or poor-developed collaterals group according to angiographic Werner's CC(grade 2 vs.grade 0–1)or Rentrop(grade 3 vs.grade 0–2)grading system.The primary endpoint was 5-year cardiac death.RESULTS Of 2452 enrolled patients,the overall technical success rate was 74.1%.Well-developed collaterals were present in686 patients(28.0%)defined by Werner's CC grade 2,and in 1145 patients(46.7%)by Rentrop grade 3.According to Werner's CC grading system,patients with well-developed collaterals had a lower rate of 5-year cardiac death compared with those with poordeveloped collaterals(1.6%vs.3.3%,P=0.02),those with suboptimal recanalization was associated with higher rate of 5-year cardiac death compared with optimal recanalization(4.7%vs.0.8%,P=0.01)and failure patients(4.7%vs.1.6%,P=0.12).However,the similar effect was not shown in Rentrop grading system.CONCLUSIONS In patients with the single-vessel CTO underwent PCI,well-developed collaterals by Werner's CC definition were associated with lower rate of 5-year cardiac death.Werner's CC grading system had a greater prognostic value than Rentrop grading system in patients with CTO underwent PCI.

Effect of Acupuncture on Endometrial Blood Flow in Women Undergoing in vitro Fertilization Embryo Transfer: A Single Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective: To evaluate the effect of manual acupuncture on endometrial blood flow parameters by three-dimensional(3D) power Doppler ultrasound in women undergoing in vitro fertilization embryo transfer(IVF-ET). Methods: Seventy patients undergoing IVF-ET were equally randomized into traditional or sham acupuncture treatment group for totally 4 days(from the day of oocyte aspiration to the day of embryo transfer) of treatment by random envelope method at the Reproductive Medicine Center and Outpatient Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medicine College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2013 to December 2015. Patients in the traditional acupuncture group accepted traditional acupuncture methods with manual acupuncture, and Zhongji(CV3), Qihai(CV 6), Sanyinjiao(SP6), Taichong(LR 3), Tianshu(ST 25), Guilai(ST 29) and Zusanli(ST 36) were chosen. Patients at the sham acupuncture group accepted shallow acupuncture methods at 4 non-meridian points at each shoulder and upper arm. Outcome measures included endometrial ultrasonic indices such as vascularization index(VI), flow index(FI) and vascularization flow index(VFI), endometrial thickness and volume, subendometrial VI(sVI), subendometrial FI(sFI), subendometrial VFI(sVFI), implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate, live birth rate and number of live births. Results: Finally, 34 patients in the traditional acupuncture group and 35 in the sham acupuncture group completed this trial. VI, FI and VFI of the traditional acupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the sham acupuncture group(P0.05). Postpartum quality of life and mental health in women with heart disease:Integrated clinical communication and treatment

BACKGROUND Postpartum quality of life(QoL)in women with heart disease has been neglected.AIM To improve clinical communication and treatment,we integrated medical data and subjective characteristics to study postpartum QoL concerns.METHODS The study assessed QoL 6 wk after birth using the 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey.The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale,Cardiac Anxiety Questionnaire,European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior Scale,and a self-designed questionnaire based on earlier research were also used to assess patient characteristics.Patient data were collected.Prediction models were created using multiple linear regression.RESULTS This retrospective study examined postpartum QoL in 105 cardiac patients.Postpartum QoL scores were lower(90.69±13.82)than those of women without heart disease,with physical component scores(41.09±9.91)lower than mental component scores(49.60±14.87).Postpartum depression(33.3%),moderate anxiety(37.14%),pregnancy concerns(57.14%),offspring heart problems(57.14%),and life expectancy worries(48.6%)were all prevalent.No previous cardiac surgery,multiparity,higher sadness and cardiac anxiety,and fear of unfavorable pregnancy outcomes were strongly related to lower QoL(R^(2)=0.525).CONCLUSION Postpartum QoL is linked to physical and mental health in women with heart disease.Our study emphasizes the need for healthcare workers to recognize the unique characteristics of these women while developing and implementing comprehensive management approaches during their maternity care.

Automated identification of steel weld defects,a convolutional neural network improved machine learning approach

This paper proposes a machine-learning-based methodology to automatically classify different types of steel weld defects,including lack of the fusion,porosity,slag inclusion,and the qualified(no defects)cases.This methodology solves the shortcomings of existing detection methods,such as expensive equipment,complicated operation and inability to detect internal defects.The study first collected percussed data from welded steel members with or without weld defects.Then,three methods,the Mel frequency cepstral coefficients,short-time Fourier transform(STFT),and continuous wavelet transform were implemented and compared to explore the most appropriate features for classification of weld statuses.Classic and convolutional neural network-enhanced algorithms were used to classify,the extracted features.Furthermore,experiments were designed and performed to validate the proposed method.Results showed that STFT achieved higher accuracies(up to 96.63%on average)in the weld status classification.The convolutional neural network-enhanced support vector machine(SVM)outperformed six other algorithms with an average accuracy of 95.8%.In addition,random forest and SVM were efficient approaches with a balanced trade-off between the accuracies and the computational efforts.

Sepsis is a potentially fatal condition characterized by the failure of one or more organs due to a disordered host response to infection.The development of sepsis is closely linked to immune dysfunction.As a result,immunotherapy has gained traction as a promising approach to sepsis treatment,as it holds the potential to reverse immunosuppression and restore immune balance,thereby improving the prognosis of septic patients.However,due to the highly heterogeneous nature of sepsis,it is crucial to carefully select the appropriate patient population for immunotherapy.This review summarizes the current and evolved treatments for sepsis-induced immunosuppression to enhance clinicians'understanding and practical application of immunotherapy in the management of sepsis.

Polysaccharides from Chinese herbal medicine:a review on the hepatoprotective and molecular mechanism

Polysaccharides,predominantly extracted from traditional Chinese medicinal herbs such as Lycium barbarum,Angelica sinensis,Astragalus membranaceus,Dendrobium officinale,Ganoderma lucidum,and Poria cocos,represent principal bioactive constituents extensively utilized in Chinese medicine.These compounds have demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory capabilities,especially anti-liver injury activities,while exhibiting minimal adverse effects.This review summarized recent studies to elucidate the hepatoprotective efficacy and underlying molecular mechanisms of these herbal polysaccharides.It underscored the role of these polysaccharides in regulating hepatic function,enhancing immunological responses,and improving antioxidant capacities,thus contributing to the attenuation of hepatocyte apoptosis and liver protection.Analyses of molecular pathways in these studies revealed the intricate and indispensable functions of traditional Chinese herbal polysaccharides in liver injury management.Therefore,this review provides a thorough examination of the hepatoprotective attributes and molecular mechanisms of these medicinal polysaccharides,thereby offering valuable insights for the advancement of polysaccharide-based therapeutic research and their potential clinical applications in liver disease treatment.

Frontogenesis and Frontolysis of a Cold Filament Driven by the Cross-Filament Wind and Wave Fields Simulated by a Large Eddy Simulation

The variations of the frontogenetic trend of a cold filament induced by the cross-filament wind and wave fields are studied by a non-hydrostatic large eddy simulation. Five cases with different strengths of wind and wave fields are studied.The results show that the intense wind and wave fields further break the symmetries of submesoscale flow fields and suppress the levels of filament frontogenesis. The changes of secondary circulation directions—that is, the conversion between the convergence and divergence of the surface cross-filament currents with the downwelling and upwelling jets in the filament center—are associated with the inertial oscillation. The filament frontogenesis and frontolysis caused by the changes of secondary circulation directions may periodically sharpen and smooth the gradient of submesoscale flow fields.The lifecycle of the cold filament may include multiple stages of filament frontogenesis and frontolysis.
